March 4, 2010 is a very special day for Sri Lanka. Sri Lankan capital changed from the North Central towards the South West since Polonnaruwa fell in 1215 following Kalinga Magha’s invasion. This exposed the North, North-East, North-West and the East to outside invasion and trespassing. As a result, a very large number of people from Tamil Nadu came to Sri Lanka. To make matters worse, since 1505 to 1948 Sri Lanka’s Maritime Provinces were under European colonialists and they paid no regard to Lankan borders. Even mythical tales of an ancient Tamil kingdom in Sri Lanka don’t go beyond 1215 suggesting the enormous threat that emerged since Lankans gave up defending their North-East sea boundaries. Interestingly the landmass claimed as ‘Tamil homelands’ in Sri Lanka are areas closest to Tamil Nadu clearly suggesting strong Tamil Nadu influence and creation of the Tamil separatist movement. Even after Independence illegal migration from Tamil Nadu continued. Illegal migration was identified as the biggest threat to national security and national economy in the 1950s and remained so until late 1970s.
Scientific reasons for this are found in the disparities in the economy and population density. GDP per capita (nominal 2008) for Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu are $2,020 and $1,105 respectively. The difference is a huge 83% or $915. Population density of Tamil Nadu is a staggering 480 persons per square kilometre whereas it is 304 in Sri Lanka. The difference is 56%. These two factors drive poor people in Tamil Nadu to illegally migrate to Sri Lanka. At one point Tamil population excluding Muslims was over 26% of the population threatening to exacerbate existing problems.
There is another hidden dangerous development. As time passes Sri Lankans naturally integrate with each other and this harmonises the society. However, unhindered influx of people from Tamil Nadu reverses this process of natural integration by artificially and unsustainably increasing the Tamil population. This is evident from the censuses of 1971 and 1981. Though illegal immigrants were despatched in 1964 and 1974 back to Tamil Nadu, a large number of them managed to evade it. Sinhala and Muslim population growth rates from 1971 to 1981 were 20% and 26% respectively whereas the Indian Tamil population decreased by 30%. However, ‘Sri Lankan Tamils’ showed a massive increase of 33%. Surely this cannot be a natural increase. It is the result of ‘Indian Tamils’ becoming ‘Sri Lankan’ Tamils.
The war saw the emigration of 1.3 million Tamils. Though unintended this opened up better avenues for ethnic integration. It also reduced the bargaining power of racist political parties such as the TULF, TNA, ACTC and ITAK. Unless the borders are tight, the benefits of demographic changes that naturally eased tribal demands and aspirations over the past 30 years will not help Sri Lanka. It is a must in this regard to safeguard the coastline.
Those who are citizens of this country at the moment are equal citizens of Sri Lanka like any other; however, there should be no room for any more illegal immigrants. Major tasks of the Sri Lanka Coastguard would be to deter, prevent and detect illegal immigration from Tamil Nadu. Curbing illegal migration out of Sri Lanka will also be a task. Australia and Italy suffer unbearable influxes of Tamil illegal migrants from Sri Lanka. As such they would be keen to contribute to this project. It will benefit both parties.
It didn’t take long for drug dealers and illegal importers to exploit the illegal immigration channel between Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu. By the early 1970s this illegal channel had grown into a multi-million rupee illegal import industry. Criminals also used this channel to escape Sri Lankan authorities. Before long, the Tamil separatist movement had detected this as a gold mine to launch their armed uprising. A very large number of guns, ammunition, bombs and other war material found their way to Sri Lanka’s north. It is not rocket science that an effective navy would have put a complete stop to the LTTE. LTTE leaders travelled to and from Vanni to Tamil Nadu while Tamil Nadu leaders travelled to Vanni without any fear. This fuelled the concept that ‘Tamil Elam’ and Tamil Nadu are a grand nation unhindered by Sri Lanka and India. Peaceful Tamil Elam circles refer to this as ‘Tamil demographic contiguity’. At one point LTTE could muster its control over 66% of Sri Lankan coastline and resources. After a long battle Sri Lankan claimed it’s coastline in 2009. Hard fought territorial victories must be protected. The Tamil Elam movement although homeless, is not dead. It is taking its time to launch the next round of terror. Sri Lanka Coastguard (SLC) along with the security forces must put up a formidable frontline against these elements.
Although coming under the Ministry of Defence, SLC will be manned by civil officers. Their tasks are not confined to defence. Preventing illegal fishing/gathering pearls in Sri Lankan waters is also a task that can be supported by the SLC. Protecting other Sri Lankan economic interests closer to shore will also fall on it. Although piracy is not common around the waters of the island, there is a strong possibility of it emerging as shipping volumes increase. SLC must keep a close watch over signs of trouble and swiftly move in with the navy to crush all attempts to introduce piracy in presently safe waters around the country.
If efficiently carried out, the tasks of the SLC will be able to deliver this once peaceful and prosperous nation from a 800 year old vicious cycle of ethnic disharmony, threats to sovereignty and violence. Severing unwanted, unchecked and non-state links with Tamil Nadu is the stepping stone to lasting peace.

You want to get that nose of yours checked out quickly... when it gets better you just might smell the rot that seems to permeate the present regime of the MR family.
As long as those thugs are using the country like a personal asset the future of Sri Lanka is as bleak as it was when the thug Praba was in the game.
No freedom means no future whether the freedom is being suppressed Tamil terrorists or Sinhalese crooks.

Missy,
That is your personal opinion not 60% voters give a damn about. I can certainly see your frustration but you may have to wait a while until you can elect a president and a government of your choice. Enjoy enough Big Macs until then.

pol,
"how exactly is the Tamil die-ass-pora economy greater than that of SL?"
it's all about averages.
tamils on average earn the average income of their host countries.
1. go to details about the tamil diaspora (wikipedia, etc.). copy the numbers by country.
2. sort them by decending order. (column b)
3. go to a website that has NOMINAL GDP. plug in the numbers against each country in coulmn c. you can ignore smaller populations.
4. do a SUMPRODUCT (B:C). for your data range.
5. you will get more than US$45 billion.
as you know SL's GDP is in the 30s.
few things.
1. part of SL's economy is also TE economy. a very large number of tamil people support the TE campaign from within. TF, pro-SL economy is less than the SL economy.
2. tamil madu has been a financier of the TE movement. we totally ignore TM.
3. we also ignore the fact that TE diaspora has HARD CURRENCY whereas SL economy is based on SOFT CURRENCY.
4. the sinhala/SL muslim diasporas too have sizable economies. but they NEVER contribute to the defence of SL adequately. even the api wenuwen api program earned only less than US$100,000 from around the world.
5. tamil diaspora is engaged in illegal activities that earns them big money that goes directly to finance the TE project.
e.g. credit card scams, insider trading, prostitution, drug dealing, etc.
so all in all, the errors of using averages os more than compensated by these factors.
Good to see these "grass roots" concepts at work. We need a formidable multi layered Naval force and capabilities, something as a nation we have historically lacked, and if you take into account Hambantota port and the economic potential there and how the West (and others like India, Singapore) will try and debilitate that, piracy is also a root they may opt for as well.

Don't you understand, Sri Lanka would have got a better future if the LTTE was not defeated or if Ranil is in power or if the one and only one most genuine True Sun God the Second got power.

Former rebels, paramilitary troops get aid in Sri Lanka
Irish Sun
March 09, 2010
(IANS)
Former Tamil rebels and ex-paramilitary troops were given fishing gear, carpentry tools and agricultural equipment as part of a rehabilitation programme, officials said Tuesday.
Some 500 ex-combatants received the aid in the eastern Batticaloa district under a programme funded by the US Agency for International Development with the International Organisation of Migration (IOM), the officials said.
The programme plans to reintegrate up to 1,000 former members of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam and a paramilitary group known as the TMVP, which was made up of a breakaway faction of the rebels.
'Reintegrating former combatants into society, retraining them and helping them to find jobs and generate income is not easy, but is an essential first step towards stabilisation, peace and economic recovery,' IOM chief of mission Mohammed Abdiker was quoted as saying in a statement.
Some 10,000 former rebels need to be re-inserted into the society since they were defeated in the civil war in May.

India, Sri Lanka 'sister countries' - Nirupama Rao
"High human development indicators in SL"
India and Sri Lanka are "sister countries", which shared a "model, unique, and time-tested" relationship, stated the Indian Foreign Secretary, Nirupama Rao.
The Foreign Secretary mentioned the high human development indicators in Sri Lanka and said she felt that there was much for India to learn from Sri Lanka. In this sense, relationship between India and Sri Lanka was one of "give and take", quoting the Foreign Secretary, the Hindu reported.
The Foreign Secretary made these statements after formally inaugurating the Sri Lanka- India Centre for English Language Training (SLICELT) in Peradeniya on Sunday (07 March).
She added that India was happy to be involved in an initiative that aimed at developing "tools of empowerment" and stated that India was interested in a more intensive economic cooperation that led to a development of a balanced relationship between the two countries, the Hindu reported.
Relations between Sri Lanka and India dating back to time immemorial would be further strengthened by the SLICELT, quoting the Foreign Secretary, the Island reported.
Secretary to the President, Lalith Weeratunga said it was the President Rajapaksa's concept to make English accessible as a life skill to every nook and corner of the country on the basis of equality. Facilities to learn English should be freely available for one and all for the development of the country, he said. He stressed that Sri Lanka has to use modern technology to keep abreast with the rest of the world.
President's Secretary added that English Teaching Centre for Graduate to acquire proficiency in English would be set up and thanked the Indian Government for this invaluable wealth given to Sri Lanka.
Senior Presidential Advisor and SLICELT program Co-ordinator, Sunimal Fernando said President Mahinda Rajapaksa has recognised the importance of teaching English as a life skill to communicate with the outside world to strengthen development, the Daily News reported.
Under the MoU, singed by the two countries in September on the establishment of SLICELT, India has appointed the English and Foreign Language University (EFLU), Hyderabad as the Technical Consultant for the Project and funded the deputation of two experts from EFLU for a period of two years to work at SLICELT. In addition, a digital language laboratory has also been set up with India's assistance. Earlier in 2008 and
2009, India sent two batches of 40 English Language Master Teacher Trainers each from Sri Lanka for training at the EFLU under India's International Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Scheme.
The SLICELT has been set up to serve as a focal point for the teaching of English language and is part of the Sri Lankan Presidential Initiative of developing "English as A Life Skill" in Sri Lanka.
India, Sri Lanka 'sister countries' - Nirupama Rao
....continued...
It will take the lead in upgrading the skills of the 400 strong cadre of English Language Master Trainers trained and developed under the Presidential Initiative to deliver Spoken English Teaching Skills to the 22,000 English teachers in government schools.
The SCICELT will also provide technical assistance to the Commissioner General of Examinations to develop Spoken English Testing Tools to be introduced at GCE Ordinary and Advanced Level examinations in 2011 and School Based Assessment (SBA) Tools for evaluating Spoken English Skills from grade 6 onwards.
It will provide technical assistance to the National Institute of Education (NIE) in developing English Syllabi, Curricula, Course Books and Teacher Guides placing emphasis on Listening and Speaking Skills in keeping with the objectives of the Presidential Initiative on 'English as a Life Skill'. It will also assist the Education Publications Division (EPD) of the Ministry in the publication of state-of-the-art course books on Spoken English for schools, the Hindu reported.

SL Elections / Foreign Media - we have one month to hammer in two points:
1) The retired General SF is not the opposition leader. Ranil Shriyan Wickremasinghe – UNP, leads the Main opposition. The DNA is a collection of single-issue interest groups. A no-hoper, just like the UK Green Party or USA/India/ (add names).
2) MR is going for 2/3 and there’s a good chance of him getting it as the opposition is split.
We don’t need any “colour revolution” BS after 8th of April.
9th April - Victory was achieved as predicted.
from toiletnet.
note how the toiletnet editor has cunningly hidden the numbers!!!!
"Ninety three parliamentarians of the ruling United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) and its constituent parties voted for the extension and twenty parliamentarians from the main opposition United National Party (UNP), Tamil National Alliance (TNA) and the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) voted against."
UPFA down to 93 and UNP, TNA, JVP down to a LOW LOW of just 20!!!
is it an indication of what to come????
i though JVP alone had 30+, TNA alone had 22, UNP alone had 40+????
what is happening???
the next emergency extention is due 2 days b4 the GE. that will be a BIG advantage for the govt and a damning disadvantage for the UNP, TNA, JVP if this poor performance repeats at that time!!!
MI,
from the hindu which is NOT subject to MR's alleged dictatorship BS.
"It will provide technical assistance to the National Institute of Education (NIE) in developing English Syllabi, Curricula, Course Books and Teacher Guides placing emphasis on Listening and Speaking Skills in keeping with the objectives of the Presidential Initiative on 'English as a Life Skill'."
IF MR family is robbing the country and the ppl, why on earth should he initiate something like 'English as a Life Skill'. and why should the hindu - an indian newspaper - report it?????
MAY be the whole world is MAD and you being the only sane one finds it CRAZY!!! remember they killed brahi for telling the truth. who knows you are a brahi in the making. i recon you have to check whatever that is (if any) inside your head.
no-mess,
2/3s is IMPOSSIBLE.
the ONLY way to get it is by getting UNP nomination lists cancelled. there is a move to do this in monaragala. not enough. do it in colombo, gampaha and kandy. govt will have the 2/3s.
there is something else govt can do.
canvass especially in the north and east and colombo for a political solution. explain that a political solution is possible ONLY IF they get 2/3s. otherwise, hard luck, no political solution.
tell them....
you decide whether you want a political solution or not. either way we are OK. after all its you who want a political solution.
Moshe,
2/3 talk is just to make the point that it’s not a close run election result.
We don’t need any “colour revolution” BS after 8th of April.
no-mess,
got it!
that way it is easier!!!
gonzeka has restarted his hunger strike demanding that he uses his wife's phone to talk to his daughters.
i didn't know danuna is his third daughter.
bugger is DESPERATE to contact danuna, his partner in crime.
danuna on the other hand may be desperate himself. wonder he might take his own life????? and wife???
sun dog the second is going through what sun dog the great went through. solitary confinemet.
he too wanted to talk to his kids everyday.
only difference is sun dog the great was in a manhole.
sun dog the great never went fcuking around.
sun dog the second has identified this shortcoming and corrected it.
sun dog the great thought this country belonged to the tamils and sun dog the second thinks this country belongs to the sinhalas.
Pol,
"Hey lookie here! Mutipolar writes to AdaDerana:....."
Your multipolar could be Lionel Bopage.... who has same thinking and is a traitor, and sleeps with LTTE.
Moshe,
"sun dog the great thought this country belonged to the tamils and sun dog the second thinks this country belongs to the sinhalas..."
I think 'the sinhalas' should be replaced by 'him'

Time to pulverise.
Moshe,
Thanks for that, however i think that way of counting is a little harsh on SL lol :))
pol,
ananda too thinks so.
this is one topic where i STRONGLY disagree with ananda.
lets wrap it up b4 he comes along.
TE diaspora economy vs SL economy topic is now closed.

you are right.

"Ditch the 'Cholas,' Dig the Jews
by Satheesh Thadchanamoorthy
Let us become the powerful people that we have to be.
Among the million Tamil people that constitute the Tamil Diaspora, an overwhelming majority of us don’t know of a world without the ‘Iyackam’—the LTTE. The past couple of weeks have been surreal to say the least. Like Newton’s rotating colour wheel revealing only white, our spectrum of emotions leaves in us only the pain—immense pain. We are confused, numb and anguished.
Towards the end of last year, some of us were beginning to clandestinely feel, may be our approaches were wrong. “Only if our iyackam in its early days had done things in compliance with western values, maybe our predicament would be different,” was a thought that did cross our minds. In spite of our understanding of the interest-based politicking of the world, we couldn’t help but to entertain the what-if scenarios. Not any more! Not after the revelations of the past five months.
Our understanding of the world and our doubts are now cemented in by our experience. We thoroughly understand the Human Rights business now. We now understand that in the eyes of the world we Tamils are not even human, and as such, our rights don’t constitute the human rights. Our eyes are now trained to see the ugliness through the cosmetics.
We used to believe that only if we had sent our own to the parliaments of the west, today our predicament might have been better. However, after witnessing last week the impotence of Navi Pillay—the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights—in securing a UN sanctioned investigation on Sri Lanka to prove what we Tamils already know, forgive us if we are sounding pessimistic. We hold very little hope now for the courts of the white-men. (Just sending our own to the parliaments won’t mean anything unless and otherwise we are powerful overall).
Contrary to its deeds, at least in words, the west supports human rights and other noble ideas. China on the other hand, does not even treasure its own citizens. Pakistan is now slaughtering its own in Swat. In India, the fifteen percent who are elites treat the remaining eighty-five percent as objects. Sadly, today it is the China-Pakistan-India types that represent Asia. Given the impotence of the UN Human Rights Commission, no one is counting on China-Pakistan-India to uphold human rights in the region. So, we are anguished.
We Tamils have always thought that we completely understood the necessity of our ‘Iyackam’. However, the past couple of weeks have made us realize that even we Tamils did not completely understand the absolute necessity of our ‘Iyackam’. In light of the behavior of the western world and its ceremonial institutions such as the UN in the past two weeks, every Tamil—even the ones that stood by the sidelines before--now understand that the Iyackam served way more than what we Tamils gave it credit for. ‘Iyackam’ was everything to us. If there are still Tamil people living in Sri Lanka today, that is only because of our ‘Iyackam’. Our ‘iyackam’ were our protector, our representative, our court, our pride, even our identity. Today, we truly feel like orphans.
There are Tamil people--Tamil people that care about the plight of fellow Tamils--in the Diaspora that never provided any support to the Liberation struggle and they know who they are. These Tamils shied away from supporting the cause for reasons including, but not limited to
a) viewing the western ideals as the noble ideals and discrediting iyackam solely based on the fact that the west did not support it,
b) influenced by the cunning Brahaministic/Indian teachings of non-violence,
c) personal egos, and
d) selfishness.
...contd.
"If there is any good that came out in the past couple of weeks, it is that now a consensus has been arrived at among the free-thinking Tamils (i.e: Not the GoSL mercenaries) that we cannot depend on others to win our rights.
In history, the Jewish people ran from country to country for hundreds of years. They too had--and probably still do--infighting, egos and other human fallacies. Yet, there came a point when the Jewish people saw through the petty differences and decided to work for their common cause—their existence.
We Tamils should take the Jewish people as our ONLY role models. We must first get out of our naïve and even selfish idea that we must win Tamil Eelam in our own lifetime. It is time we understand that Tamil Eelam is not about our retirement homes. Tamil Eelam is necessary for reasons way more than we comprehend now.
Like the Jewish people, we must trench in for a long-term struggle—however long it takes to win Tamil Eelam. We must not spend all our energy at once thinking that the struggle will be over in months or a few years. Like the Jewish people we need to diversify our efforts. We must become rich and powerful. We must diversify our areas of educational pursuit. We must understand the necessity of power, all kinds of it. We shouldn’t think in terms of sending protesting letters to the editors of newspapers that don’t have a clue or are driven by racist agendas—our letters only help them with their ratings. Rather, like the Jewish people, we must grow to levels where the world would think twice before slinging mud at us Tamil people. We must not get hung-up on the meaningless glorification of the Chola dynasty and other “Kalhi” style fiction. After all, the Chola dynasty did not withstand time. Let us look up to contemporary success stories.
In today’s world, we only have one such success story to look up to; namely the Jewish people. Let us learn from the Jews. Let us form friendships with Jewish people. Let us un-learn all the wrong values and ideas we’ve inherited. Let us learn the right things. Let the Jewish people be our role models. Let us become the powerful people that we have to be."
why tamil ppl cannot copy the jews. (i have previously proven why jews = sinhalas to great extent)
1. jews ALWAYS had something VERY VERY VERY valuable to the west. theirs was the HOLYLAND. ALL christian countries (ALL superpowers are christian except china which is FAST becoming christian)
this meant they HAD TO protect jews and give them their land so that the holyland would be protected from arabic invaders.
the whole bible is about/around israel. god SPECIDICALLY created israelites from jacob.
tamils have NOTHING like this to offer the west.
2. jews are NOT powerful in the west.
this is a BS misconception. jews DON'T control the USA, etc. financial markets are NOT dominated by the jews. more arabic investments are there in the west than jewish investments!!!
so even if raj rajaratnam is a bilionair, it comes to nothing in the western world. in fact tamils get sympathy now bcos the west believes they are the UNDERDOG. if they start to show they are not, even this little sympathy will go.
how many ppl are into insider trading. why most get away and this joker got trapped??????
3. jews have a big diaspora
arabs have an EVEN BIGGER diaspora!!!
4. jews managed to keep their culture bcos it is VERY similar to the western culture. jewish values are christian values. after all jesus was a jew!!
but tamil values are ALIEN to the west. west may to some extent adopt north indian stuff, but certainly not tamil stuff.
second and third gen tamils don't give a damn about TE. this is what will happen when the 1983 refugees die in another few decades.
5. the holocaust, etc. that happened in the west, resulted in boiling sympathy to jews FROM THE WEST. germany still donates military equipment to israel out of guilt!!!
this will never happen to tamils.
6. if our politicians don't do BS by offering tamil aspirations, they will again take up arms. (no problem, we can handle that).
that will again lead to branding their groups as TERRORISTS.
7. as history points out tamils could achieve seperatism ONLY through violence.
e.g. elara, chol(er)a, VP (he controlled vanni for 25 years).
this means continued marginalisation in the west.
8. jews have only ONE place where the WHOLE jewish history was made. just like the sinhalas in SL.
for tamils it is TAMIL MADU, not SL.
ALL tamil history, culture, tradition ALWAYS related to tamil madu ONLY.
not a song made in SL!!! (few may be there for SL only consumption)
9. continued support for jews comes from the west bcos the west sees jews as the frontline in countering muslims. west LOVES this.
can the tamils develop such intense anti-muslim feelings??? they can but no one gives a damn. that will further destroy their hopes about a TE.
10. jews got their OWN land back. TE tamils in SL are fighting for OTHERS' land!!!
just bcos one honest man accidentely dropped his axe and ended up with his own axe plus a golden axe and a silver axe does not mean a cunning terrorist can delibrately drop his axe and rob a golden axe and a silver axe!!!!
try it and the axe mark will be on the forehead!!!!!

Time to pulverise.]
Thanks for the alert brother.
I just submitted the following as a comment there:
By OaO Asithri
The writer is certainly out to strike the "balanced view" cliche and in the process attempts to do so highly inaccurately by trying to instill a certain reservation about an on-going WAR in Sri Lanka. What the readers must keep in mind is that even during the intense hay-day of this war, i.e. Sri Lanka's own "War Against Terrorism," it was common to see plane-loads of tourists traveling to Sri Lanka as I used to witness myself being a frequent traveler to that isle.
Sri Lanka has always been a tourist paradise and it will continue to be so. Even after the Tianaman Square incident, China saw her tourist arrival go up by over 40% and the reason is that the average, genuine tourist is not into playing politics, often politics they know well they would be compelled to play based on one-sided propaganda, with their hard earned money and this is also the case with tourists to Sri Lanka.
Of course the fact that currently there are no heinous LTTE suicide bombers (often brainwashed women/children) to carry out mass attacks on city center is an added bonus to encourage tourists to visit Sri Lanka. Bravo Sri Lanka for ridding yourself of Terrorism! Viva Sri Lanka!
And then there was a LTTE whoredog named “kanlet1” in that same comment thread and I left the following response to him:
By OaO Asithri to “kanlet1”
Your obviously pro-separatist anti-SL harangue is of zero value to genuine tourists. Most tourists I used to strike up a conversation inside the plane en-route to Sri Lanka used to tell me quite emphatically "Sri Lankans' problems are for Sri Lankans to resolve; we are only interested in having a vacation and Sri Lanka provides us with one of the best value-for-money vacations."
Sorry to disappoint you, but that is how the genuine "tourist world" works. I myself have visited some African, Middle Eastern, Latin American countries that per your logic I should not have...but I am glad I did as for one thing I got to experience some the best possible vacations in these destinations that one could imagine, but also now (after seeing Sri Lanka's case) I am more cognizant than ever that as tourists we must not be swayed by one-sided propaganda, especially such propaganda from well entrenched, well financed special-interest groups in foreign countries.
PolS,
Not sure if/when the comments will be published, but that's what I did.
Sorry bro and other patriots, I am traveling currently and am pressed for time and hence may not be able to visit here or do the counter-prop stuff as much as I would like to. But I see you guys are a fine lot, going at it relentlessly and hence I do sigh in relief.
Cheers,
OaO Asithri
Olu Madu ruins
Once we had a guy called "Ogre" commenting in DW, who was suppossed to be a military guy. At teh timr the military crossed A9 south of Kokavil, I remember him talking about a hefty lot of ancient ruins found in thick jungle.
I wonder whether he made it to Olu Madu.
Anywas, where is Ogre? How is his health situ, I rem him ending up WIA in final battle. Does anyone know?
Re: SF
The starkest of realities will dawn upon ex commander on 8th April, as it looks like a die hard battle to win 40k-50k excess votes [topping up ~25k JVP votes] to gain a seat in Colombo. He may get it, but it was never thot to come to that level, at least by SF.
Win or loose it will mark the SF-affair dead. SF may end up one in a range of places from parliament to prison. Yet his political future will be isolation, unless he agrees to surrender to conventional politics and join some party as a humble low level member. Obviously his union with JVP is a marriage of bloody-hell convenience and is supposed to get divorced by 9th of April.
This is rightly so. Even if I consider SF as teh hero we thot of him before the end of war, still that does not grant anyone a special treat. Everyone shud come from the lower tier and gain their way.
So the hype and debate of SF looses its value. Likely is a pardon from MR, yet the court case is almost set to go, so a pardon will take months, if not years. The worst claim of "general who saved the nation to enjoy a free avurudu is in jail for avurudu" made by Anoma, seem to fall in deaf ears. So be it.
In the end of the tunnel what the govt needs is a humble surrender of SF. It is obvious that SF refuses that, but his foot soldiers are leaving him, group by group, and the calamity of his actions in the from of court martial dawn the reality on him. There will be that day he will be compelled to.
Nevertheless, my concern is the use of NAME of SF. Before PE it was the use of MAN SF, in order to attack SL by all its enemies. But today as teh man nears his political death, and obsoletion, it is his name that they use after abandoning the man.
It comes in two ways. Some use the "prisoner SF" for political advantage and defamation. While the other take advantage of the open wound in SLDF cut by SF affair, and use it to defame SF and through him SLDF. Using now open misconducts of "villain SF" to defame not only him, but whole SLDF.
I think govt has to make the proceedings closed. It has to reveal anything only if it does not harm the good name. There are allegations against SF, and they were there from day one. But the problem is, the moment you start attacking SF using them you attack SLDF too. You may debate that it is not, but its definition is not your free choice. As the facts get revealed, they can be used by enemies as THEY wish.
What we need is a cover and closure to the matter. And to get rid of the rotten old topic SF and move on. That kinda isolation is the only way to ease SF in realizing his true position in SL right now.
Sri Lankan people have become more cynical over the years. If the government stop the proceeding against SF or somehow the proceeding came to a halt since they were all election gimmicks then people will become more cynical.
However, after strong proceedings if the peoples' wishes to be lenient that may be ok.
If these cries by the Government were allowed to be percieved as election wolf cries by a mischievous boy then the people will become more cynical since it came from a more beloved leader's side.
This will eventually be immensely harmful for well-being of the Nation. This cynicism will help another Idi Amin to make his goal.
This is not a question of a personality. This is about our Nation.
The rail corridor that India will build will help India more than anyone else.
This project will have minimal impact on the Hambantota port. The only loss for us would be that products destined to India's east coast will stop at mumbai and unload the cargo there to be taken by rail.
All the other cargo destined from Europe, Africa and middle east to SE asian, Aus, NZ and East asia will pass by Hambantota and then the straits of malacca(expect for Aus and NZ).
When ships from Europe come out of the suez canal through the Somalia and Yemen corridor, the shortest route to reach SE asia, Aus, NZ, and the huge market of East asia is by traveling by Hambantota(not unloading at mumbai and reloading at culcutta and sailing down to the staits of malacca). The opposite scenario with the cargo ships from East asia, Nz, Aus, and SE asia to ME, Africa and europe will also pass by Hambantota.
This rail corridor is mainly for products reaching India. China will never allow to get the vast amount of its cargo to come from the railroads of India. Its too risky for them. They will rather stick to oceans.
I don't think we need a rail link between SL and India. Too many illegal immigrants can come through the containers. Already no port in the world is capable of checking all the containers passing through their ports. A rail link between SL and India can cause a flood of illegal immigrants from India to SL. SL is a richer country with a higher GDP per capita.
Whenever two countries next to each other have two substantially different GDP per capitas. Then the people in the country with the lower GDP per capita will try to illegally enter the richer country and work there. Just like in Mexico/USA, Ukrainer/Russia, Malaysia/Singapore etc.
We are lucky we have a body of water between SL and India. This is what prevented us from being flooded by Indians from ancient times.
Look at Japan, very hard for illegal immigrants to come because their are surrounded by sea along with other local measures. Same with us. But we need a strong modern coastguard to complement our surrounding seas.
We also need to establish a biometric ID card system for everyone in the country. These can't be faked. Who ever wants to work at a new job must have a biometric card to get hired. Illegals will leave when they can't earn a living.
We need to focus on building SWATH type vessels for our coastguard. I think with some foreign help we can achieve this. Something like the seafighter.
GE,
yes that can make illegal immigration easy. during british time a traon ticket could be obtained from any SL station to india. this was one big reason for illegal immigration.
the indian rail link is not just for india. it will be used to transport to and from india as well. this offers benefits to SL.
we need to do more cost/benefit analysis on this.

MORE HELP from China for Infrastructure Development!
Friends in Need are Friends Indeed!
................
China lends US$ 290 million for Sri Lanka infrastructure development
ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.
Mar 10, Colombo: China, through its Export-Import (Exim) Bank has provided Sri Lanka with a Concessional Loan of US$ 190 million to construct the country's second airport in Mattala and another US$ 100 million to expand the capacity of the Sri Lankan Railway, Sri Lanka Foreign Ministry said Wednesday.
According to the Foreign Ministry, Treasury Secretary Dr. P. B. Jayasundara and a delegation from the External Resources Department and Attorney General's Department signed two Concessional Loan agreements during a three-day visit to Beijing from March 3-5.
Dr. Jayasundara has had very productive discussions with the Exim Bank officers in fast-tracking many infrastructure development projects that are being evaluated by the Bank for future funding, particularly in the Northern and Eastern Provinces.
The Treasury Secretary has particularly emphasized on speeding up the evaluation process for the construction of the A9 highway, the Foreign Ministry reported.
During his discussions with the Vice President of the Exim Bank, Zhu Hong Jie, Dr. Jayasundara had elaborated that with the electoral victory of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Sri Lankan government's development focus and the strategic plan set in place would progress unhindered.
He had explained that a vital ingredient for the realization of this development plan was the need to fulfill the infrastructure requirement and had appreciated China for assisting Sri Lanka at a very crucial stage of her socio-economic development shouldering a major portfolio of the finical requirements.
Dr. Jayasundara has been accompanied by Ambassador Karunatilaka Amunugama, Director General of Department of External Resources J. H. J. Jayamaha, Senior State Counsel Arjuna Obeysekera, and the senior officers of the Sri Lanka Embassy in Beijing.

Patriots,
The change in Canadian demography is something we need to be watching for our decedents. Just like D.S. Senanayake did for us, we need to prepare our future generations to face a possible threat from Canada due to the growth of Eelamoids their. Nip the buds.
Sam,
Change in demography in Canada will lead to a civil war and potential economic collapse as "minority politics" will upset and anger the white populations. Canada, Denmark, Belgium, Holland, Sweden, France and Greece are over run with immigrants that there is growing undercurrent of disgruntled voices in the white populations. When the minorities make 50% of the population all hell will break loose. Denmark, Belgium, Holland and Sweden have almost "surrendered" themselves to minority politics and domination, a good reasons why pissu neo-liberal concepts of social engineering and purple democracies these nations leaders/elites believe in and have forced on their own populations are a bad thing that we in SL must ensure are people are not inoculated with.
Part of the reason everyone obsesses with Sri Lanka and everything is “internationalised”, especially by these wacko ideology peddling countries and their NGOs (separate to the religious NGOs) is because SL is seen as their pet project, a small weak country economically, politically and militarily (well the last two until MR came to power) with a soft Buddhist culture at the core of the Sinhala masses. A ripe target for plucking and re-engineering. We can thank Ranil for opening the flood doors in this area and encouraging it. The religious NGOs also see the same easy target.
Our economy will be stronger then than it is now in 20, 30 years, possibly very powerful so threats from the likes of Canada may not be high.
However what is important is recolonisation TODAY to benefit the future. We have to ensure Sinhalese dominate the countries population demographics in all provinces, especially the North and East and ensure no racial enclaves as we have had for the last 30 years can exist at all. It is the only real guarantee for our long term safety. The Tamil die-ass-pora will not give up and within the next 10 years we will have to have some kind of referendum –it will be forced on us somehow, if not GE election results of that time period will be used. A Moshe has always said we must frustrate their attempts, they will keep trying with “peaceful means” and so we must make it impossible, recolonisation is the only way.
Whether we like it or not Jaffna Tamils and the Vanni Tamils are closet eelamists and separatists as are the Colombo Tamils, (unlike Sinhalese Tamilia also blindly follow their leadership). So its best to let them leave the country if they want to, let all the boats to Australia, Canada and elsewhere merrily go on their way out of SL, must check what is coming into SL though. Furthermore the non-separatists Tamils may be heavily influenced by the extreme levels of racism and radicalism that comes from the West.
Customs officials who worked for Pottu Amman arrested
The police investigating covert LTTE operations in the city and its suburbs have arrested two Customs officers for their alleged involvement with LTTE intelligence chief Shanmugalingam Sivashankar alias Pottu Amman.
Acting on information elicited from an LTTE operative, the Terrorist Investigation Division (TID) took them into custody. Government sources told The Island last night that the suspects had met Pottu Amman in the Vanni in 2004, during a ceasefire agreement arranged by the Norwegian government. Sources alleged that the suspects had cooperated with the LTTE to facilitate 'transfer' of specific items needed by the LTTE through the Colombo harbour.
Sources said that the LTTE had 'agents' both at the Bandaranaike International Airport and the Colombo Harbour to help bring in contraband.
One of the suspects now being interrogated is from a very affluent family.
The Defence Ministry said that a section of the Customs had strongly opposed some of the security measures proposed by the government to stop the LTTE using the Colombo Harbour as a transit point. A senior ministry spokesman said that they expected to make a breakthrough in their investigations into covert LTTE operations during the war.

Good work TID. We need to capture the fu**ers, whether they are sinhalese or Tamils. Should send them to prison for long time.
Ananda
Thanks for your suggestions on the edu thing recently :)
Pus in the Lions' den. Wonder why?
A
sure way to some Western hearts.
All the more reason for recolonisation!
MVT axis has plentiful of this and MORE -built by Sinhala kings.
Now this is an excellent push factor, if the pull is just as good we can really turn things around in term of demographics AND boost food production AND increase economic situation for these people AND ensure Eelamists/suddha preachers get frustrated AND increase Mahinda's vote bank (the last one being a "push factor" for MR/GR/BR more than anyone else to stop dithering).
Ah the beauty of recolonisation.
We must spread more tales like this to encourage movement as the grass is much greener in MVT.

Blame it on the weather, which has been causing water shortages that force Bandara to spend more and more time fetching water for her family, farther away from home. "

Moshe Dyan,
I understand your anxiety but don't write nonsense under the garb of fact.
This is what you wrote,"
though illegal immigrants were sent back in 1964 and 1974 ..."
Are you suggesting that all the plantation (estate/indian) tamils were illegal immigrants? The indian tamils (plantation) were sent back to India under the Sirimavo-Sastri pact in 1964 and 1974 by which India agreed to receive 50% of the total plantation tamil population in a bid to give the remaining 50% srilankan citizenship. Don't you know the difference between illegal immigrants and indentured laborers? As I said before, I understand your anxiety but don't degrade your fellow countrymen. Those that live in a country for more than a century are by any natural law are automatically citizens of that country (like the blacks in the US). Plantation tamils were brought in by the brits about 130 years ago to SL. To deny them citizenship is inhuman.
---Another Indian
parthasathari,
welcome to the blog.
"Are you suggesting that all the plantation (estate/indian) tamils were illegal immigrants?"
no.
don't jump into extremist conclusions.
as you mentioned, some of them were sent back and some were made citizens. refer to what i wrote in the 5th para.
"Those who are citizens of this country at the moment are equal citizens of Sri Lanka like any other; however, there should be no room for any more illegal immigrants."
what has happened has happened. even part of the other tamils, sinhalas, muslims came to SL as illegal immigrants!!!!!!
e.g. wijaya
but that is not the point.
the point is we should stop further illegal immigration. to do that we have to study WHAT HAPPENED.
if you are a SL, i'm an equal SL as you.
but SL population should ONLY have internal growth. NOT A SINGLE illegal immigrant should be allowed to live in SL.
got it????
sorry, the name should be spelt parthasarathy.
sam,
re: canada
i agree mostly with pol.
we should let them go AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. it benefits everyone.
1. they are happy (a better life)
2. we are happy (POTENTIALLY one less TE vote)
3. canada is happy (it needs ppl. especially asians who are hard working)
4. SL is happy as it eases pop density. transfer part of the 'tamil aspirations' abroad.
we should expect canada to behave like miliband one day. but that is OK. the main thing is to frustrate TE in SL.
"arabs and west asians are going to triple"!!!!
that would be fun. especially when south asians double!!
since MOST migrant communiites live in certain areas, when eventually the arab/west asian population exceeds south asians, there will be more fun.
"Third Mu'l'livaaykkaal in the name of 'development'
[TamilNet, Wednesday, 10 March 2010, 12:50 GMT]
After abetting a military defeat and subsequently blessing a political defeat, the coterie of countries propping up Sri Lankan state is now bent upon enacting a third Mu’l’livaaykkaal, by bringing in a ‘development defeat’ of Eezham Tamils through handing over development management to the Sinhalese, said a concerned group of diaspora Tamils who recently had an experience of negotiating development in a peace-facilitating European country."
so what????
there are no tamil homolands in SL. that theory was defeated in nanthikandal. if anyone has a problem with it, lets battle it out, again.
shitt!
PCB has not banned afridi for biting the ball. what if the ball was another player's ball!!!!
if banned, SJ could hold the record for highest number of sixes for a long time.
GoldenEagle,
A biometric ID is a great idea..It should be made compulsary for provision of Samurdhi and Healthcare at government hospitals..Costs permitting this should be done along with the 2011 census. At the moment no illegal immigrants and only illegal emigrants.. The system should be put in place before development dividends begin to come in..
I strongly feel this is why India always insists on 13+ with land powers..The North and East gets administrative and land powers..Then illegals gradually migrate and settle in the vast lands..In a few decades, SL tamil population climbs to it's highest levels ever..Southern India's population problems solved at SL's expense
diyasena,
"At the moment no illegal immigrants and only illegal emigrants."
NO. there are plenty of them. i recon about 10,000 a year. four yaers ago JVP arranged 25,000 to get citizenship.
GE, ID is a brilliant idea. he has been harping on it for a long time now.
re: 13
certainly. china 'resolved' the tibetan problem at india's expense. india is trying to resolve tamil madu problem at SL's expense.
all the racist "T" parties WORSHIP tamil madu ass clowns. if a NE PC is set up, most councillors will be from racist "T" parties. they will do WHATEVER ass clowns tell them.
anyway both consider TE and TN to be historically one nation. that is their conviction.
we have to defeat 13 and start colonization ASAP. one defeats the other.

Sri Lanka gets US$ 67.4 million credit from India to upgrade Southern railway line
ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.
Mar 10, Colombo: The Government of Sri Lanka and Export-Import Bank of India today signed a US$ 67.4 million Line of Credit Agreement to upgrade the Southern coastal railway line from Colombo to Matara.
Secretary of the Ministry of Finance and Planning Dr. P.B. Jayasundara and Executive Director of the Exim Bank of India Prabhakar Dalal signed the agreement in the presence High Commissioner of India in Colombo Ashok K. Kantha today in Colombo.
This Line of Credit will fund the second phase of the upgradation of the Southern railway line. Indian government had earlier provided a credit line of US$ 100 million under an agreement signed in July 2008 for the first phase of the upgradation that is currently being implemented.
A press release issued by the Indian High commission in Colombo said the second phase of the project will inclde supply of materials for rail track rehabilitation from Colombo to Matara and execution of work for rail track rehabilitation from Kalutara to Matara which is being implemented by IRCON (I) Limited.
In addition, the Line of Credit is also being used for supply of 20 sets of Diesel Multiple Units (DMUs), three units of locomotives, spare parts for the existing M8 class locomotives, supply of plant and machinery for maintenance of existing DMUs and construction of maintenance sheds at Aluthgama, Galle, and Colombo by RITES India Limited.
The Upgradation Project would allow the trains to travel on the Colombo Matara sector at speeds up to 100 kmph. It will increase the average operating speed from 40 kmph to 80 kmph allowing a passenger express train to cover the Colombo-Galle distance approximately within 2 hours.
The supply of DMUs and locomotives would also increase the train capacity and the frequency of trains, alleviating the existing constraints in this regard on the Colombo-Matara sector.
Ananda,
this is what we disagreed on.
=SUMPRODUCT((TD canada, TD UK, TD france,........),(GDPPC canada, GDPPC UK, GDPPC france)) > GDP SL
Moshe
I understand it would be a two rail system. But if we get flooded with illegal immigrants then it outweighs all the benefits.
We need to implement a biometric ID card for the whole population soon. And then make it mandatory for one to have one to get a job.
These can't be faked because you can't for example fake the patterns in your iris to match someone elses. If some one gets caught working illegally, the employer not the employee will get punished. This will reduce the incentive to hire illegals.
It's RAINING aid money NOW in Sri Lanka for INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT!

Sri Lanka to get US$ 50 million loan from Japan for the Upper Kotmale Hydro Power Project
ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.
Mar 10, Colombo: Sri Lanka is to obtain a US$ 50 million (4.522 billion Japanese Yen) loan from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to complete the Upper Kotmale Hydro Power Project.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa, as the Minister of Finance and Planning received the approval on Wednesday (10) from the cabinet to enter into a loan agreement with JICA.
The Upper Kotmale Hydro Power Project (UKHP) is being implemented under a loan amounting to Japanese Yen 33.265 billion extended by the Government of Japan in 2002. The construction works of the Upper Kotmale reservoir, power plant and other associated works are in progress and expected to be completed in 2011.
The new loan is sought to meet the additional funding requirement due to cost overruns and price escalations. The proceeds of the loan are to re-lent to theCeylon Electricity Board on terms and conditions laid down by the General Treasury.
The views of the Monetary Board of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka have already been sought on the monetary implications of this loan, the government said.
The project will be implemented by the Ceylon Electricity Board under the supervision of the Ministry of Power and Energy.
When completed, the run of river hydropower project with an installed capacity of 150MW will produce 409GWh energy per year.
The loan that carries an interest rate of 0.2 percent per year is repayable 40 years inclusive of a grace period of 10 years.
The Sea fighter type vessels can carry two helicopter on thMem. The SWATH hull is the most stable in rough seas. They can also carry many UAVs. These UAVs can be used to keep an eye on the oceans outside the range of the ship's radar. Plus small boats can also be carried in the sea fighter, some rigid hull inflatable boats would be ideal.

SL Economy Stabilizing Before Rapid Growth Takes Off?
.................
Economy stable
Times lists Lanka as top tourist destination:
USA Chamber of Commerce speaks of investment benefits in SL:
By Dulshani GUNAWARDENA
DailyNews.lk
The prospects for Sri Lanka’s economy is bright and optimistic with much potential for massive scale growth and development, as revealed by various independent economic observations.
A panel of professionals headed by National Economic Council (NEC) Member W.D. Lukshman yesterday highlighted Sri Lanka’s potential.
Kelaniya University Sociology Department Head Professor Sunanda Madduma Bandara, National Economic Council Member and Colombo University Department of Economics Senior Professor Ranjith Bandara, National Economic Council Member, Dr Loyd Fernando and Kelaniya University Economics Department Senior Professor Dr Ajith Dissanayake were the other professionals present at yesterday’s press briefing.
Despite various negative views put forward by certain parties with vested interests, Sri Lanka’s economy is witnessing one of its most stable periods ever, they said. According to them The New York Times has listed Sri Lanka as a top tourist destination in the world in its January issue.
Meanwhile, the American Chamber of Commerce has placed special attention on the benefits of investments in Sri Lanka’s tourist industry. Based on this perspective it is hoped that Sri Lanka too will achieve a target of an annual 2.5 million tourists by 2016. Compared to statistics of 2002, in which 22.7 percent families were below the poverty line, 2009 saw it this brought down to a level as low as 15.2 percent.
This is a good indicator to show the standards of Sri Lanka’s socio-economic conditions have improved.
The period 2008-2009 saw a downfall in foreign deposits in Sri Lanka. In the last quarter this figure has risen to US$ 5.2 billion, with Sri Lanka’s Balance of Payments showing a positive turn around the first time reaching the figure of $2.7 billion.
Despite the world recession between 2007 to 2009, Sri Lanka’s economy was relatively spared of its effects due to the strict and meticulous economic policies followed. Professor Ranjith Bandara said that the yet unreleased report would have a figure of an approximate 3.5 percent economic growth.
Sri Lanka’s loan to GDP ratio is just 8.6, with many developed countries showing a much higher figure, specially the USA at 9.0. Despite high unemployment rates in many developed countries, Sri Lanka’s unemployment rate rose only from 5.2 percent in 2008 to 5.8 percent in the last quarter of 2009.
The share market, which could be pointed out as the best instrument to measure a country’s investments, is rapidly growing, with potential investors increasing steadily. Sri Lanka’s Gini Coefficient has a value of 0.41, the lowest in South Asia. The Gini Coefficient is a measure of the distribution of income.
The specialists attributed this positive trend to the new economic policy adopted in 2005, a ‘balanced policy’ which aims at making Sri Lanka’s economy both independent and up-to-date.
GE,
yes that can potentially be like trucks on the french side of the UK-france border and the train. can also lead to health problems.
e.g. in 1994 there was plague fears. a rail link is a sure way to spread it.
can't think of an effective way to stop illegal immigration on trains/carriages/containers.
as diyasena suggested 2011 census would be a good time to roll it out.
is there a way to track DNA from satellites????? or is it still fiction???? a link between the ID and the person remotely.
wasn't some terrorist tracked down this way???
if possible that will be a breakthrough in many fields.
e.g. fighting crime, detecting illegal activity/movement in remote areas
the 2011 census results would be SHOCKING to some sections. i'm sure there will be attempts to manipulate it. so much indirectly and directl depend on it.
e.g. MP seats, standardisation - university opportunities, possibly allocations to STM cultural ministries/funds
it makes sense not do discuss political solutions in detail b4 2011 census data is out.

Norway must shit scared lol! They might reinstate their contract and make him ditch the project or have him "modify" it. While i hate this useless scum, it does not mean we can't use the traitor camp to our advantage, MR/GR must assure this arse wipe Rupa that future treason charges will be dropped and he can live luxuriously like KP if he sticks to the game plan.

Going gets tough in Matara for Mangala
by Mike Andree
Mangala Samaraweera, during his days with the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, held sway in the Matara district. Even after quitting the party, many believed that he could hold his own against any opposition there.
But all that seems to be changing now.
Samaraweera, who formed the SLFP (M) and together with the JVP, TNA and other minor parties joined the UNP to form the UNF, seems to have antagonised the voting population of Matara.
Samaraweera, who leads the UNF charge in Matara, may find to his dismay that he has made a mistake too many.
UNPers in the district have not forgotten how he plotted the party’s downfall at the last general elections and slung mud at their leader, Ranil Wickremesinghe. Many of them are not happy with his ploy to bring the JVP and UNP together prior to the recent presidential polls.
SLFPers have lost faith in him due to his desertion of the President at a critical stage of the war against terrorism and for supporting the UNF.
Meanwhile the JVP supporters have got chased off as he has stayed on with the UNF and left their party to fend for themselves.
Political analysts say that Mangala is now finding the going tough in his one-time domain and he has suffered a severe setback to his ambitions with a number of his trusted lieutenants deserting him to support the UPFA. The worst blow to him was his one-time trusted lieutenant Sripathi Suriyarachchi’s widow, who was due to contest on the UNP ticket, throwing her support behind the UPFA.

it PROVES what we concluded only based on STATISTICS!!
"I have been informed by a very reliable source that of the very recent internally displaced Tamil families resettled in the Mullaittivu district one hundred and fifty families are not citizen of this country.
When I visited the Manik Farm on two occasions last year, I was very surprised to meet several people of Indian Tamil origin from the older generation who spoke good Sinhalese. When questioned with regard to their ability to converse so fluently in Sinhalese, they informed me that they were estate Tamils who had lived at one point of time in the hill country among the Sinhalese. Many of them may be those that were identified to be repatriated to India under the Sirima Shastri agreement. They were subsequently resettled in the Mullaittivu and Kilinotchchi districts after communal riots by International Non Governmental Organizations such as the Redd Barna in an effort to link the Northern Province to the Eastern Province to create a land mass exclusively inhabited by Tamils. This was a surreptitious effort to establish a Tamil homeland in the Northern and Eastern Provinces better known as Eelam and thereby to divide and destabilize our country."
from the same article, ELAM.
In this context the word ILAM (Eelam), today, comes into much prominence. It is, apparently, being used to connote the impression of “a land of the Tamils”. Indeed, the Tamil word ILAM was never before used in that sense. On the contrary, this Tamil word ILAM did not refer to Tamil land but to the “Land of the Sinhala people”. None other establishes this than the Tamil lexicon published under the authority of the highest seat of Tamil learning- the University of Madras. Page 328 of this Tamil lexicon has the following entry: ILAM, n< Pali, Sinhala, 1. Ceylon. What it says is that ILAM means the land of the Sinhala people. The Tamil word given as the meaning of ILAM reads “SINHALUM”. The term ILA in Tamil means “SINHALA”, having its origin in the word HELA, by which term the ancient people of LANKA were known. Thus ILAKKACHU in Tamil means “Sinhala Coins”- ILA means Sinhala, Kachchu means Coins. Similarly, since NADU means LAND, ILANADU means the Sinhala land. According to the said lexicon the word ILANADU was derived from ILAM. The foregoing establishes the fact that the word ILAM (Eelam) never referred to any Tamil land but always signified the Sinhala land. Therefore if one were to ask for ILAM (Eelam), what is being asked for is the traditional homeland of the Sinhala people.
about gonzeka.
our efforts are working. thank you everyone for helping us bring gonzeka's CORRUPTION out to the open. we revealed his corruption here in DW b4 AT or any other WITH THIRD PARTY EVIDENCE. we created a DIY kit to gonzeka's corruption.
it feels like MOSHE VS GONZEKA!!!!
(naturaly i expect some BS responses.)
"One Court Martial will try him on three charges relating to participation in politics - while being in service. The other Court Martial will try him on four charges - relating to violation of laid down procedures for the purchase of military hardware, according to Army spokesman, Maj.Gen.Prasad Samarasinghe.
The charge of indulging in political activity while being in service has been filed under Sec 124 and 102(I) of the Army Act. The charge of violating tender procedures are filed under Sec.109 (E).
The judges of the two Courts Martial will be the same. The Courts Martial will be presided over by Maj.Gen.H.L.Weeratunge. The other judges are Maj.Gen.A.L.R.Wijetunge and D.R.A.V.Jayatilleke. Rear Admiral W.W.J.S.Fernando will be the Judge Advocate.
The Court Martial on Fonseka’s political involvement will begin its hearings on March 16. The second Court Martial will begin its proceedings on March 17. The two Courts Martial will be functioning concurrently. Fonseka will be allowed to use a defence lawyer of his choice."

Re: Gonseka case I have a question. (I asked earlier but didn't see answer may be I missed.) Q is its said in military court only a senior officer can judge a junior officer. When Gonseka in office as CDS he was the most senior officer in SLDF (by default). But I am not sure how to apply above law when one is out of office but within 6 months rule. If you limit seniority issue only to personals in active service, which means seniority is not applicable for one retired but within 6 months limit then no issue arisen. But if this seniority issue is applicable for those retired as well then there is a contradiction as junior officers judging a senior officer. I think based on similar argument Gonseka supporters (AKA JVP AKA DNA) claim his arrest was illegal as that was a junior officer who arrested a senior officer. Any comments..?
“We need more international pressure,” says a message the SF media unit is circulating. Like the pro-LTTE Tamil Diaspora, these anti-Rajapaksa campaigners too – though not necessarily for the same reasons – have since February held rallies in London, Rome, Paris, Melbourne, Milan, Napoli and Seoul to protest against the Sri Lankan Government
The issue here is not whether Sri Lanka is a perfect democracy or the perceived grievances of these people are real but whether they have got their priorities mixed up at a time when not only Western governments but also the UN is trying to undermine Sri Lanka’s sovereignty in the name of probing alleged war crimes and human rights violations while turning blind eye to atrocities committed with impunity by some of the very powers trying to pass judgments on others.
http://www.asiantribune.com/news/2010/03/12/election-lanka-facing-complex-challenges
The acts of these traitors is pathetic and disgusting.
They want "someone else" to put "pressure" on the Government?
Gee why not try it through the voters? Oh thats right it is because thumping majority overwhelmingly and repeatedly have rejected these losers.
They are going against the will of the people which is the very reason they have been rejected and as a consequence loose elections, yet their egos and greed for power is so potent that they willingly continue on course oblivion, as they did during the war because the only way they know how to come to power is through inflicting and maintaining misery and destitution amongst the masses.
Ninja,
If you don't mind me butting in :))
Since Sri Lanka does not have anyone of a higher rank than Gonseka (4 star general) i assume the closest rank to that is used, or capable/respectful officers versed in the subject are drafted in which seems to be the case (going by Gonsekas standards of dignity/honesty finding men of respect and dignity is not an issue).
Or an officer is promoted to Field Marshal.
JVP/UNP tards will of course say anything no matter how manipulated or fraudulent.
This is a good opportunity to re-evaluate the Military Law in the country, taking into account these issues. It is also a brilliant opportunity to teach potential future Gonsekas consequences/prevent future ones being formed. It is also a lesson for the other traitors in the country to think twice. I look forward to the day these top scum answer for their crimes (they do it so easily because they know they can get away with it).
ninja,
sorry i don't know.
that creates a disturbing situ.
if the seniority issue is taken a ridiculous level, MR as the CIC would have to be dragged into it even indirectly.
that would be (if it happens) very bad.
looks like our army act is outdated like our penal code!!
pol,
hopefully this BS mainly by JVP retards will end with the GE.
i blame the govt for that. if they had held the GE in july 2009, none of these would have happened. then govt would be enjoying the 2/3rds by now.
we should write to media and state institutions of these countries explaining the ground situ.
MD/PS
That was assuming such an issue exist based on JVP arguements and don't know the law exactly.
/hopefully this BS mainly by JVP retards will end with the GE./
May be.. may be not. If JVP finds better thing to hang on they will drop Gonseka. But if they go to court against this arrest/military court that may be a new issue. Also, in such a case you get a verdict. OTOH, if they don't file a case JVP/gonseka can forever claim this military court+arrest is illegal and hence Gonseka is innocent.
/Or an officer is promoted to Field Marshal./
Well, thats a possibility. If they want that way MR can promote whoever Gonseka like/dislike and do the arrest from begening.
Or GSL can change the law, even effective to the past... I guess we have examples from JRJ.
I just want GSL to do this process clean... for sure legal wise.
One GE request guys...
Please promote JHU/JNP candidates and put them on top of lists... They are the most reliable in a potential federal threat...
Next PE/GE will probably for UNP victory... Its this 6 years we have to fix every thing so that even a western agent like RW can't reverse... Avoid voting for potential crossovers to UNP and anti-nationalistic friends in either party. These suspects will probably win from both parties... Only way to ensure unitary SL is by strenthening WW-PCR-DG driven candidates..
fully agree with ninja.
the "F" threat is very real and i don't trust MR to stand up to it. certinaly not BR.
we need to destroy it from within the ruling party.
ppl like horagoda, rajitha, even WIJAMU and his son will certainly change. they are SEASONAL PATRIOTS.
Diabetic National Alliance
greedy, obese, pigs!!
minister becoming fat is usual. how about opposition MPs becoming giants????
an ura kumara was in the opposition for so long.
arjuna too was in the opposition for a long time. he has become like anura bandaranayake.
anoma is becoming pritier by the day (overweight though) as bruises of wifebeating slowly leaving her.
anoma and arjuna???
arjuna may be trying for the guiness record for pumping the world's best army commander's wife, ILLEGALLY!!!!
that makes him a war hero!
Ninja/Moshe;
I have the same feelings. Biased at best, in my last analysis I chose Dinesh/WW and CR [and was positive about Fowzie] for pref votes. Maybe I ever said like this in public.
MR can be anyone's horse. In reality JHU and SU ideology got induced in patriotic JVPers of the time, whom mostly left for JNP [I won't call it "copy"], and then after MR COPIED their ideology. Like Susil PJ recently said "api okkoma dan hela urume".
Previously MR was the representative of most socialist lunatics and was a silent member of a CBK cabinet which approved P-TOMS. Old braking monster Rat-nasiri was the sole voice against, if I remember.
Also we should figure out SLFPers and UNPers who may stand against non-patriotic moves. Rat-nasiri kind. Also non-sinhala ppl who stand for one SL. Likes of Karuna, Farial, Fowzie, and late Jeyaraj.
May I say something many of you debate against me. I am against 2/3. I am against abolishing exe presidency, or making it "dependent" on parliament. Maybe make it "responsible" to parliament, but that is the max below my line.
Plus I am against more than 130 seats to UPFA.
The reason: if they pass 130, they can one day join arms with separatists and lunatics [aka socialists] of nation and kick out the patriots in govt to reach a 150 total. Govt will have at most 20 independent patriots from all sides. The gang of opposition traitors includes TNA+other tamil racists, DNA-SF faction [insignificent], SLMC, perhaps TMVP, perhaps EPDP, and SOME of UNP. This total can beat a critial 40.
And, 130 - 20 + 40 = 150. Hola, we have a 2/3 traitorous govt and patriots scattered in opposition.
If less than 130, govt has to retain patriots [18 needed to retain govt]. And they CAN find 20 patriots from opposition for any patriotic move that needs 2/3. Believe me UNP has those 20 patriots hidden. In 2005 also they had the likes of Hemakumara, MahindaS, Keheliya etc. This time also there will be those UNPers who will cross and found a patriotic govt. I like this option.
But below 130 gives us assurance that govt is SOLELY dependent on INDEPENDENT patriots within. It is those whom we request to increase in number here. By everyone's pref vote.
I agree that I was too harsh on MR and undermined his patriotic instincts. But I wanna avoid the slightest risk of mega danger. Plus I am confused with the on and off patriotism of MR thru-out his 40 years of politics.
Topic is open for debate.
SK,
too much power is very bad. i agree. but in the case of MR, there is a check.
as we know MR = NEPOTISM
he LOVES his kids and brothers. he wants to INHERIT them a better future!!
this was trumpeted during the PE but MR was unmoved.
ppl said, ok.
IF MR blunders, his sons, brothers will be in deep shitt. for that reason he will not.
JRJ, RW even RP didn't have brothers/kids to DIRECTLY take it from them.
sirima was total crap. i cannot understand her behaviour in 1970-77. totally lunatic.
OTOH DSS did well. he planned a LONG senanayake rule. that is why he was careful.
Sujeewa K,
Even if all JHU/JNP ers get elected that will only be 25MPs..Add to that a few patrioitc UPFAers..Dinesh, Adm. Sarath Weerasekara and Wijamu, Rathnasiri, Rajiva Wijesinghe (disagree with Moshe on WiJaMu, he was sidelined by the UNP for his Nationalistic stance)..People like Johnston, Keheliya , MahindaS are touch and go..They will sell out to federalism at the right price...
Then there are the pro-federalists who should be kept out of office, Horagoda, G.L. , Rajitha, Dilan Perera and the lot..
I used to be pro-2/3rds but my mind has changed as well. Yes 130-135 (still a record victory), with 20-25 unshakeable patriots.
1. Presidential system is OK, just needs a few adjustments...
2. PR election system is OK as well. With the new census of 2011, the bloated power of minority parties will end. Add colonization to this we will still have popular parties getting the necessary 113 when winning...
However if the UPFA wants to give federal (which under MR I doubt it ever will), it will get complete support from the UNP..Since there is no way of getting 76 un-biased pro-unitary members elected, pressure has to come from outside..By getting involved in the Fonseka issue, the Mahanayake's have sullied their reputation (they did a Sterling job against Chandrika's package)..So we are not out of the woods yet..
For SK,
Blake is still settling scores:
http://www.asiantribune.com/news/2010/03/12/us-human-rights-report-sri-lanka-insinuates-rajapaksa-brothers%E2%80%99-culpability-rights-a
Moshe/DiyaS;
Moshe, there won't be such impact on the family's political future. In SL political demography, such acts impacts months at most. MR is not as foolish as RW or Wikarabahu to dedicate themselves as sell outs. MR will prove even federal state is better for us, IF HE EVER DECIDES TO SUPPORT IT. Most voters will fall to it.
Plus, MR will not give this huge block of a federal solution. I can almost assure that. My worry is, small give aways for small gain.
Say MR has 140 seats, and TNA wants land rights to North and East. If given, they support and they have 10+ seats. Will MR consider giving JUST the land rights in order to get 150?
Also consider MR has outright 150 of yesmen, and with international pressure, Tissa Vitharak-dena solution came with Grand Lunetic Pieris approval. What guards us against this? The 20 patriots in govt can be neutralized by buying traitors [for free] from opposition.
MR hasn't been this bad, but that alone is not an assurance. We need a volatile block under him [like JVP in 2005 under CBK] who'd PUSH him not do so. But anything more than 130 seats neutralizes them and brings us to the risk.
Your argument is based on federalism, well, I suppose federalism will never come as FEDERALISM. It is a failed name in both sides. It will come in guise, in many occasions, as little piece by piece, and be debated in the backyard of temple trees on a plastic bargain table kept secretly by Basil et al, and attended by black market political traders of the nation.
In fact during the term of MR there will be something given out, and it is likely to be called 13+ regardless what it is. We want more ppl of patriotic instincts to be a part of the gang of MPs who write and pass it. And we want the 20 INDEP patriots [to me 25 is too much for expectation] to be the critical vote block among rest of yesmen. We want them to hold the so called "key".
After that whatever MR gives as 13+ will mean good for SL. If not, if we allow MR to kick out teh 20 and grab teh help of 40 odd sworn traitors/lunatics together with rest of his yesmen, well, 13+ can inherit features of anything. Still I doubt whether they will use the word "federal".
In another view. There will be deceptions of words for both separatists, and patriots. We need the control of patriots in order to increase the deception and helplessness for separatists. [Anyone preaching us that there shud be reconciliation with separatists, they're day dreaming. It is like having a cool chat with your executioner till the time of execution]
Another fact from past. When JRJ betrayed SL [was rather forced for that] in 1987, it was similar situ [bar the part of LTTE in 1987 which we happily miss now]. Intl pressure [then by India only], local lunatics in CBK, Wijaya and other socialists, racism and patriotism mix of JVP sometimes betraying nation for the party, sleeping opposition and a huge power in parliament. Few patriots protested, like Cyril Mathew [I do not agree fully with him tho], Gamini Jayasuria etc. They even resigned but JRJ cared least for them. He cud afford for that with a 5/6.
Few other men with common sense opposed internally; likes of GaminiD, and Premadasa. But they saw the fate of others so kept silent [like MR in CBK cabinet]. So JRJ "misused" the 5/6 affording to loose the few patriots and went for a nonsense called 13th.
Look back at it and think yourself how much death and destruction was caused by it and how easy it wud be, had we just continued the war in 1987.
Some may say that it wud have caused India invade us. Same can be said about 2009, and time to come. The risk is equal. Invasion, sanctions etc. Total "unfair" intl action is possible. Persistence, endurance and not giving away the nation under pressure is what matters.
20/120 stands bloody hell firm as even 40 odd opposition traitors can't do anything. But 20/130 is risky, worse the higher.
There is a solution for SF against CourtMartial affair.
He can start a fast unto death until he is freed.
Also he should start a fast unto death until MR resigns and SF is given oath as the President.
US has named Rajpakshas as human right violaters.
US considered the dictator Marcos as a champion of democracy until he became a liablility.
It is not about human rights that concern them. Human rights is a pretence to oppress our Nation. That is their primary objective.
If their human rights concern is genuine then they could have stood against the LTTE with out playing hide and seek game with the issue. And also they could have first cleaned their act in domestic arena and international arena.
I acknowledge that human rights is an issue in Sri Lanka. It is an issue in USA too.
USA violates human rights in other countries for various strategic reasons.
Even in their soil, though law and order and liberal values hold for large extent, human rights are violated for sake of big business and by big business people. And sometimes the Government look other way or support these violations.
http://www.lankaenews.com/Sinhala/news.php?id=12711
The UNP Will be MP's are already in discussion with the Government for crossing after the election.
The list is with Embasssies.
What is going on here.
This is a blatant violation of sovereignty of our Nation.
How come our eletoral affairs is a business of other countries.
This is a blatant violation. How can they cirticise human right conditions in Sri Lanka?
First practice what you preach, foreign powers. Then may be we trust you and we may seek your help.
131st Battle of the Blues,
Royal 283/9 Dec. (74 overs)
St. Thomas 314 all out (99 overs)
Royal 20/0 (4 overs)..
Looks like another draw, unless Royal collapses tomorrow (So much for Gay Jay's two day result)..Thomians wasted 3 and half session for their first innings and got only a 31 run lead..Quite unsporty, if they had declared 30 runs behind, both sides would have had a chance..
Diyasena,
I am concerned recolonisation is not being done.
I put an article in here earlier of the struggling Sinhala farmers in the south.
They are right sort of for recolonisation in MVT.
This Government MUST do it.
I believe it is pressure from India forcing MR/BR
"The news that India will soon open a consulate in Jaffna, northern Sri Lanka, is to be welcomed. It has been a long time coming, more than eight months after the crushing of the Tamil Tigers. Foreign secretary Nirupama Rao said the consulate would help the Tamils living on the peninsula and it would restore full connectivity with south India. The last is perfectly true, for apart from everything else that they have lost, Sri Lanka’s Tamils have lost that easy sense of kinship with their linguistic and ethnic brethren in Tamil Nadu. Until the civil war began, Rameswaram was just a short boat ride away. Since then, however, it might as well be on another planet, given the difficulties of a journey to the Indian coast.
http://theacademic.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10380
Persons who are detained without charges must be released promptly and a general amnesty should be granted to the others, as an initial step towards national reconciliation
Tamils who fled the country over the last 30 years also must be permitted to return to their homes and conducive atmosphere for same created for their return.
The above are parts from the TNA election manifesto. Full of racial crap. No mention of resttling the sinhalese desplaced from Jaffna. Imagine these terrorists launch attacks for 30 years, and then demand an amnesty as a precondition for reconciliation! Also demand the diaspora that funded terrorism, promoted separatism, and worked against the nation to be allowed back???? Honestly these TNA folks should be tried in court for treason.
SK,
Some very valid points.
"Tamils who fled the country over the last 30 years also must be permitted to return to their homes and conducive atmosphere for same created for their return."
Oh yeah! We can do coducive. Ask KP.
Pol said…
“Moshe/others, look at these tards complaining over Sinhalese going to the North. Tyring their best to come up with ridiculous reasons to keep their ethnic enclace.
http://www.island.lk/2010/03/12/opinion3.html”
This is a good opportunity to do some PR on col/EI.
When they throw a lemon at you, make lemonade!
Govt. should “Educate” our people on how to visit NE.
Eg. Don’t wear shoes to temples, kovils, etc. (Duh. I believe most know this. Except maybe for few Columbians.)
There must be a big PR campaign for this. Bonus point is that, we can show this to so called international community and show how “sensitive” we are.
The “education” material should be something like:
When you visit NE you must:
1.
2.
3.
Maybe in the back of the page we can have:
When you settle down in NE you must:
1.
2.
3.
We must make “makka story” our philosophy.
You shoot us, we do col.
You complain, we do col.
You cough, we do col.
Happy colonisation!!!
Tata,
They could not give a flying toss about "behaviour" (all that is just bs, its not Sinhalese fault Tamilia men, women and children in the North are culturally unhygienic, one of their many "connections" with Toilet Nadu haha).
It is TO STOP Sinhalese going to the North.
This recent "complaining" is no different to their concocted rubbish about "discrimination" or "grievances", they are designed for them to have grounds for complaining and squeezing out benefits, there is nothing genuine about it.
We did that for decades, did it work? NOPE. They just increased their demands.
No need for any kind of appeasement. Why act to their (bogus) sensitivities? And hand out special treatment as though they are some precious beings? The destruction befalling our nation is because of bloody Jaffna Tamil mentality in the first place.
Worst thing that can be done is create the “politically correctness” mentality that is now prevalent in certain Western countries.
What the Government must do through education programs is increase and encourage movement of Sinhalese north and east, i.e. make the grass greener in MVT. The "education" must be about the importance of moving North for security reason (masked through stories about the war) & economic benefits going North.
Reality is no one gives a damn how well or bad they are treated –including them. They (West, Tamilia) will complain regardless as we have seen. When we then reward them for complaining and offer special treatment that tells them (and the West) “keep complaining as it gives grounds to make more demands” (and more room for the West to interfere).
Best mode for colonization is improved transportation. If people can travel from Jaffan to Anuradhapura in two to three hours by high speed railway or highway, col/EI will happen automatically.
This is shameful and pathetic rewarding these killers.
http://www.island.lk/2010/03/13/news1.html
Government is doing this to "decrease pressure" from the West.
These sorts of "good will" crap won't work.
"The government is also in the process of finalising plans to launch a dairy farming project at Suriyawewa in the Alle-Kantale area for the benefit of about 500 ex-LTTE combatants. The Sri Lanka Army and Ceylon Cold Stores are expected to implement this project with the latter making a substantial investment. The military official said that about 1,800 farmers would be hired as regular suppliers of milk. According to him, they were in the process of acquiring additional government land needed for the project in addition to land belonging to the Sri Lanka Army.
One of the most important aspects of the government initiative is to set up agricultural/livestock farms at Kandalkadu, Thrikonamadu which would be vested with the Sri Lanka Army and Air Force. There would be six separate farms with each capable of accommodating 500 ex-LTTE combatants each, sources said, adding that about 11,000 acres would be allocated for this project.
"
This is disgusting.
Throw them in the sea or put them in boats to Australia (some can "fall" into the sea en route).
This type of helping Tamilia for "good will" was done in the 1970s, what happened?
Amirthalingam was given district councils, what happened? He prevented them from functioning (same time he launched the "armed stuggle") and demanded more.
marcus,
transportation is a must.
BUT that is not the way to colonization. it never happened.
govt should physically colonize the north in large scale for a start. thereafter transportation, industry, etc. will take over AS MEANS of colonization.
despicable racist sakkili toilets!!!
"Sinhalese street vendors invade Jaffna town
[TamilNet, Friday, 12 March 2010, 05:44 GMT]
The shops in Jaffna town shutting down before evening 6:00 p.m by its owners due to their bitter experiences during the war and the people of Jaffna peninsula remaining indoors in the night has become habitual until now when Sinhalese traders from the South have turned Jaffna town into night time street markets. This night trading has suddenly cropped up to cater to the needs of thousands of Sinhalese tourists pouring into Jaffna after the opening of A9 road to Jaffna, sources in Jaffna said. Meanwhile, Jaffna Traders Association blamed Jaffna Municipality administration for turning a blind eye to this unlawful enterprise. SINCE WHEN????
Around three hundred thousand Sinhalese tourists are said to have visited Jaffna after the opening of A9 road and their prime places of interest are the Naaka Vikaarai in Nainaatheevu and the Aariyaku’lam Buddhist temple in Jaffna town.
The Sinhalese street vendors stay and sleep on the streets in Jaffna town and continue their business unchecked by the municipal authorities.
The people of Jaffna, however, choose to lock themselves indoors once night sets in SO THEY NEVER INTERACT WITH CHINGALA TRADERS???? WHAT BS!!, the sources added."
if toiletnet racists cannot understand the simple truth that ppl will NATURALLY integrate given the chance, think about the VANQUISHER AND THE VANQUISHED!!!!!
after all that's all these racoist MFs are capable of thinking.
We need a singhala leader or group who will just go to the east and and the north and make a nuisance of them selves asking the Tamils to start bonding with the Sinhalese. Someone to sell the Sri Lankan identity.
http://www.hindustantimes.com/rssfeed/world/Canada-asks-Sri-Lanka-to-start-talks-with-Tamil-groups/Article1-518127.aspx
I left a few comments there. Patriots, I ask you to do the same to counter the comments from the vile Tamil racists aka LTTE whorebitches.
HindustaniTimes is not a "kalaa paththraya" in India and when we think that we were able to liquidate the LTTE mommafuckers in the last "eelam war" (for good) was also due to India giving us the "wink"...it pays to write to Indian journals and keep the Indian public informed about "the real issues" vis-a-vis Sri Lanka and her own war-against-terrorism.
While many of us know of the pressure that was brought upon GOSL from the hypocritical west during the LTTE's dying days to stop the war and go for yet another peace-talk, what most most of also don't realize is the pressure India came under to "march into Sri Lanka and stop the carnage" from the same hypocritical west.
As such, no, this "India factor" is not something we should ever underestimate - or forget.
OaO Asithri
Marcus,
Good point mate re. transportation re. reclaiming our land (yes, I call it "reclaiming" and not really colonization or recolonization).
However, I do agree with Moshey when he says "transportation, industry, etc. will take over AS MEANS of colonization."
In my view, you both are right...just the sequence of what you espouse is at a different point in the desired end-game.
OaO Asithri
Pol,
It seems to be done in a small-scale covert manner (definitely not the aggressive Israeli style)..The main focus is infrastructure/ economic development, with a few strategic villages (mostly ones which used to be there pre-LTTE)..GOSL seems to be hoping that economic factors will precipitate mass-scale private EI..For example look at the Sinhala vendors...If business keeps flowing they will settle down..
There are dangers of course,
http://www.dailymirror.lk/print/index.php/news/front-page-news/5890.html
The TNA wants Eelam in all but name..But whilst developing the area government can always stonewall, demands for 13+..Aye as Sujeewa K said 13+ may come before 2016 but to a de-merged NE, and with Trinco (definetly) and Vanni (likely) firmly multiethnic..Jaffna is a goner..But there is hope for Batti even (there were around 15% Sinhalese pre-ltte)..If the present 2% can be brought upto 5-8% voila, we have a Sinhala MP (I am thinking in future the PR system which racist minorities used to screw us, could be used to screw them back)
an intersting read. this was written in 2004. very insightful of the writer especiall at that time.
pls ignore spelling and grammer mistakes.
Objectives in Indian Ocean
Indian Ocean
Third largest ocean.
7350000 sq.km.
Three important trade routes in world Malacca straits, Strait of Hermuz and Adden Gulf.
It has most important states from which oil is pumped to Australia, USA, Europe, Asia and Africa.
All three trade routes have check posts.
In History
Napoleon attacked Egypt to capture Suez Canal and Adden Gulf to capture and secure trade routes to India.
When Great Britain captured Asian and African countries first they captured all three trade routes of Indian Ocean. In 1815 Indian Ocean was also called “Britain’s lake”.
In World War 2 USA to control and secure oil flow from Middle East to America captured Malacca Straits from Japan for safe passage from Indian Ocean to Pacific Ocean.
After World War 2 when Great Britain gives control of all trade routes then USA deploys Air Carrier Groups on all three.
India with Russia in 1971 Indo-Pak war blocks Karachi and Chittagong ports Seventh Air Fleet of USA was arrived to stop the blockade.
After 1971 USA deploys Sixth Air fleet in Adden Gulf, Seventh Air Fleet in Hermuz Strait and Eight Air Fleet in Malacca Strait.
USA in 1974 establish modern army base with air force and naval support in Diego Garcia, Indian Ocean.
After Soviet Union Collapse in 1990, USA was sole power in Indian Ocean.
In the meantime two most important and populous emerging powers China and India Started a new race to control Indian Ocean.
China
China is second most oil consuming country in the world.
China’s all oil is imported through Indian Ocean. It import 7.3 million barrels oil per day in which 50% is only from Saudi Arabia.
China Breaks all records of exports and 85% of its products are exported through Indian Ocean.
China is controlling Indian Ocean very systematically and it is called “Necklace of Pearls”. In this system China is building ports and naval facilities in friendly Countries. Gwadar is good example in which modern deep water port with Oil and container depot. It will also help to petrol its oil routes.
China is also working on a plan to built oil pipe line from Gwadar to Western part of China to decrease its dependence on sea routes.
China is also building another port in Hambantota, Sri Lanka for oil and container depot and it also supports naval facilities.
China has built modern and most sophisticated electronic surveillance system in an Island of Bay of Bengal to keep an eye on sea traffic.
China is also upgrading Chittagong port to hold container and oil depot and naval facility.
In Myanmar (Burma), China is investing multi billion dollars on up gradation of port Mergui and road and also building new ports. China is also connecting it with rail tracks. At Mergui it is building naval base.
In Coco Islands (near Andaman and Nicobar Islands) China has built radar station to keep an eye on Indian navy and Port Blair Ballistic missile range of India.
CNOOC oil field of China in Malacca Straits gives key observation post to Chinese Navy.
In Thailand, China is planning to made Panama Canal type route at “Istamis of Kara” which will help it to reach Japan and Korea easily.
India
India is forth most oil consuming country in the world.
It resolves 33% of energy from oil in which 65% to 70% is imported through Hermuz Strait.
In future India will import 90% of oil from Iran through Hermuz Strait.
According to analyst in 2030 India will be most populous country and to achieve its targets it has to emphasis more and seriously in Indian Ocean.
Today India imports coal from Australia, Indonesia and South Africa, LNG (liquefied natural gas) from Qatar, Indonesia and Malaysia, and another important thing it has more than 3.5 million Indian nationals (labors to specialists) working in Middle East countries which more than 5 billion dollar foreign revenue per year to secure all this and more it has to control Indian Ocean.
India has very good relations with Iran and they had an agreement in which Iran will supply 7.5 million ton per day LNG for next 25 years starting from 2009. Another important project is Under way of gas supply to India through Pakistan called IPI (Iran-Pakistan-India) gas pipe line.
India has developed great economic and trade relations with Middle East countries and not to forget it has played an important role in Afghanistan and Iraq under USA guidance.
India has invested a lot in Myanmar otherwise there is Army government (Monarchy). Myanmar is important because it is rich in Coal, Zinc, Copper, Oil and Uranium.
India is planning to built modern port at Karwar, Karnataka due south of Gwadar port to keep an eye on Chinese route.
India is planning to build a chain of ports and naval facilities in Nicobar Andaman Islands (Total islands 244) for which it can block Malacca Straits which is the most important trade route of China.
India is expanding its naval power in Indian Ocean. In 21st century India and China will come face to face in Indian Ocean. India is known USA’s ally and both have signed nuclear agreements. After USA and China, India has largest navy in Indian Ocean. USA is minimizing its role in Indian Ocean and wants India to take its place.
Pakistan
Pakistan is one of the important states of Indian Ocean which is securing its most important route.
It has seven hundred mile long coast starting from Gwadar to Rann of Kuch.
All the central Asian land locked states are very much dependent on Pakistani ports.
All the aid and cargo to Afghanistan are going through Pakistani ports and specially NATO cargo.
According to analysts in near future Pakistani port of Gwadar and Iranian port of Cha Bahar will help to export oil from Caspian sea for which a twelve hundred miles long of pipe line will be built and you can imagine how much these ports are important for central Asian states.
U.S.A
When East Pakistan was fall and Bangladesh was come into being then CEATO and SENTO was dissolved under U.S Central Command (Cent COM) and increased its area to Middle East.
This Central Command fought three wars in the region two in Iraq and one in Afghanistan.
Know this command is doing work Afg-Pak plan to fight against terrorism in border areas of Pakistan and Afghanistan.
U.S.A is making India powerful so that India controls Indian Ocean from Persian Gulf to Malacca straits and raising Japanese navy to secure and control western and southern parts of Pacific Ocean.
Another important thing is that U.S.A wants to minimize Russian influence in Indian Ocean.
U.S.A is changing different countries governments on its own will liberal media and economic ties, and has changed China by economic ties and Pakistan by liberal media.
Cent COM face three main problems in Indian Ocean.
Secure Middle East oil production and its route in future.
To keep strong hold on southern states of ex-Soviet union.
To give its duties to India and China to secure Indian Ocean in future.

If same vote distribution occurs UPFA getting 130 is a mathematical certainty. PE was a critical turning point but GE is not so total votes will go down as many who vote in PE will not vote in GE. However, such decrease probably effect more for opposition than ruling party so chances are more that UPFA get 130+. But 150 is near impossible.
The truth is no matter what 225 will go in and the problem is out of all 1000s of candidates I am not aware of good reliable nationalistic 225. I can name no more than 25. So this is losing game for voters no matter what.
Further, as long as switching is allowed and money is available, crossing is always possible. So there really is no point arguing on numbers. Only option voters have is to vote only for trusted candidates and not vote for suspects so that margin is visible when they get elected.
EP as I think may need some amendments but I believe going back to old system may lead to political instability probably we ending up having GEs every year or so at the current switching rate of our politicos.
Like it or not UPFA getting 130+ is mathematically very likely and what they will do with such a big power is up to them. Voters have little or no say after GE and left only with trust on MR.
The best approach for voters I see is to vote for JHU/JNP candidates and put them top of lists so that WW-PCR have a big say in potential future federalism, anti-nationalistic threats.
Some have already forgotten the General – Anoma
By Gagani Weerakoon & Tharindu Prematillake
Wife of Democratic National Alliance (DNA) Leader General Sarath Fonseka says that some of the political parties who were backing General Fonseka seem to have forgotten him at present while the UNP says they cannot hold any protests on his behalf because he is contesting from a different party.
“I cannot say exactly that they do not have any interest in him. But, they no longer inquire about the wellbeing of him and we also do not expect such from them. They used to call me earlier and inquire about General Fonseka. Besides, everyone is busy at the moment and we do not have any hard feelings about it,” Mrs. Fonseka said.
General Secretary of the United National Party (UNP) Tissa Attanayake said, “It is very clear that the UPFA government is not going to let him go free. The only way that he can be freed is UNF coming into power.”
Asked about the current state of the protests and fast-unto-death campaigns conducted by the UNF demanding the release of General Fonseka over his arrest, Attanayaka said, “We are not conducting those protests or fasts anymore. You have to think about it reasonably. General Fonseka is contesting from a different party now, so if we continue to hold protests on his behalf in times of an election, it is the equivalent of campaigning for him. We can’t do that.”
However, Attanayake stressed that the current stance of the UNF does not reflect any change in their respect for General Fonseka. “We have no problem with the General, and we will continue to fight for his release after the election,” he said.
Furthermore, Attanayake added, “For the moment the best we can do in favour of General Fonseka is to campaign hard for our party and win this election. Only if we come to power will General Fonseka get a chance of being treated justly.”

Well whats she waiting for? Lets have another flood of tears.
COLOMBO, Sri Lanka – Sri Lanka's main ethnic Tamil party on Friday dropped its demand for an independent state and said it is ready to accept regional self-rule, following the defeat of separatist Tamil Tiger rebels in a 25-year civil war.
The Tamil National Alliance, which backed the rebels, said in its platform for April 8 parliamentary elections that it would accept a "federal structure" in the north and east provinces with power over land, finance, and law and order. The platform was released Friday.
-------------------------------
Federalism, power over land and finance, that is like saying lets keep the country separated until we can start the next Eelam war. We need to go in full drive towards ethnic integration.
Thusitha,
Before EI happens the government has to reduce TNA seats in parliament..UPFA must go all out to win Digamadulla and Trinco, which they can atm..For this they need some muslim voters on top of the Sinhala votes..UPFA must push hard on the re-merger demand of TNA and the Hakeeem-TNA dalliance...
Plus UPFA have to try and win seats in all districts including Jaffna and Vanni..TNA has to be kept to 15-16 (anything less would be a bonus)..After election government must got to interprete this as a defeat (from 22 seats in 2004)..And a rejection of the remerger by the East (TNA should get only 4-5 in the east)..Jaffna (3) and Vanni (1)districts, receive more seats than they deserve (because of old census data)..GOSL must point this out too
TNA drops tamil elam for (racist) federalism
what a fcuking joke!!
it is same. here is proof.
1. there was a RACIST party called the FEDERAL PARTY. it was also known as the ILLANKA TAMIL ARSE KACHCHI. this means lanka tamil nation party.
TF, federal = tamil nation.
2. the cursed name of the jokers who say they have dropped the TE demand itself is TAMIL NATIONAL ALLIANCE!!!
that simply means tamil nation.
only fools will be fooled by these racist sakkiliyas BS.
drop the racist, "TAMIL" word from the party name before anything.
Ban having second thoughts on panel of advisors
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon may have second thoughts about appointing a panel of experts to advise him on "accountability issues" relating to the Sri Lankan conflict where the armed forces have been accused of human rights violations and war crimes.
"He is still to consider such a panel's terms of reference and is in contact with his advisers, including the UN Human Rights High Commissioner (Navi Pillay) on this," UN spokesman Farhan Haq told the Sunday Times.
He said no persons had been suggested to him as experts yet. "It is unlikely that such a panel will be actually established very soon," he added.
Sri Lanka's UN Ambassador Palitha Kohona last week fired off a strong letter of protest warning the UN that any unilateral attempts to appoint a panel would meet with a negative response causing considerable strains to the existing relationship between the UN and Sri Lanka.
On Thursday, the 118-member Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), the largest single political coalition at the United Nations, expressed "deep concern" over Mr. Ban's unilateral decision to create the proposed panel, and made two serious charges against him: attempting to violate the UN charter and trying to interfere in the domestic affairs of a member state.
"The Non-Aligned Movement strongly condemns selective targeting of individual countries, which it deems contrary to the founding principles of the Movement and the United Nations Charter," said Ambassador Maged Abdelaziz of Egypt, the current NAM chair, in a letter to the secretary-general.
Bugger, Monkey Ban got a couple of swift kicks to his gonads from our chaps. Now doubled up in pain the poor bugger is having second thoughts.
Cheers!
diyasena,
yes. that is a good move. but don't underestimate the TE (anti-EI) movement. not only "T" racist parties that are trying for that. socalled (tamil elam) intellectuals too are trying it.
while it is important to REDUCE the TNA to the lowest possible number of seats, colonization must happen at the same time to frustrate the others.
There's a new CNN crap out "Witness special" usual load of bs, and as always its about the poor suffering Tamilia.
They shamelessly take advantage of MRs poor english to make clever "drama". It is made to look like he's struggling because he can't answer the questions as he's "guilty" when in truth he can't speak english. Its obvious he can't speak english properly and plenty of times before i have seen CNN for different stories when interviewing someone state so some times repeatedly. I honestly do not get why he does not use a translator?
Throughout China all old stations have been demolished and rebuilt as modern ones. A lot of the suddhas buildings have also been rightfully smashed. None of this "preserving the past" crap.
”This picture could well have come from Victorian England but it was shot at the refurbished Slave Island (Kompanna Veediya) railway station built during the colonial era. John Keells Holdings whose Glennie Street headquarters is very close to the station has invested substantially in refurbishing and repairing it to make one of Colombo’s architectural museum pieces. Today it is one of the country’s oldest and cleanest railway stations frequently featured in many television advertisements.”
While building ultra new stations may be expensive, this sort of "nostalgia" is appalling.
All structures and buildings built during periods of occupation should be bulldozed not "preserved". That dark chapter in our history -which we are only now emerging from- needs to remembered as that, dark, horrid destruction where our people were all most annihilated. Not something we want to keep around and think as "good times", which seems to be the case. Even in the Hambantota development programmes special emphasis has been made on preserving the colonial crap. Bulldoze it all.
Something like Galle light house must be remembered for what it truly is, a symbol of invasion, occupation, destruction, drainage of our resources and a constant reminder of European savagery and what was done to our people who now lecture us about "higher morals" and "human rights".
Its shameless no one seems bothered about preserving whats left of our actual history and heritage going by the way are ancient sites are robbed, vandalised, destroyed and abused.
A big deal is made about the colonial crap, especially in the media, why is the same importance never given for our ancient sites? Why are they treated with such contempt?

English in SL is a status symbol. Lot of people are ashamed they cannot speak proper English. Therefore they try their best to speak English. The Colombians are responsible for that. No one would think less of him if he use translators. I have seen in many interviews Chinese officials and Russian officials use translators. It would be good if MR start using translators in hostile interviews.
CNN did the report on SL for some time. they released it RIGHT ON TIME!!
what a fluke!
when US HR report came out, CNN also released its report.
independant media???? my arse.
guys,
our WORST fears are confirmed.
tamil elamists plan
TORONTO: Reacting sharply to reports from Colombo that the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) has given up its demand for a separatist demand, the Canadian Tamil Congress here said Saturday that the Tamils have not given up their demand for a separate homeland.
"The TNA has been misquoted. They are in constant touch with us and what the media has put out is absolutely wrong. The TNA has not abandoned its four co-principles which include a separate homeland for Tamils,'' Canadian Tamil Congress leader David Poopalapillai told IANS here.
Outlining the TNA's "four co-principles", the Tamil diaspora leader said, "These include a separate homeland for Tamils in Sri Lanka, their right to self-determination, preservation of distinct Tamil identity and citizenship rights for Tamils who came to Sri Lanka from India in the 18th century.''
Poopalapillai said, "The 1.3 million-strong Sri Lankan Tamil diaspora is behind the TNA and it has full faith in its leadership. We are very firm on what we want.''
The Tamil leader added, "What we are fighting for is something like Puerto Rico and the US - two nations with one passport. The island of Sri Lanka will be one country with two nations - one Tamil nation and one Sinhalese nation.''
He said nearly half of Tamils of Indian origin who were settled in central parts of Sri Lanka in the 18th century but still have no citizenship will be accommodated in the new nation.
such a move will attract more from tamil madu.
their plan is to fill the devoid created by the tamil diaspora by toilet madu fellows. ANY NUMBER is ok for them.
this fcuking sakkili move should be stopped.
we have to speed up colonization.
i will not forgive MR and his crap family if they don't start doing it now. just amassing all the fcuking powers under the sun like a greedy dictator to do BS and rob money without colonization will curse all born, unborn and dead rajapakshas.
Moshe,
The irony is that it disproves the whole Tamil homeland concept itself.
Moshe did you see this as well?

Deal made so that Prabhakaran's mother goes to Canada, so that she can be worshipped by the diaspora like the "Virgin Mary" mother of Jesus. While the man who killed her son to spend the rest of his days in prison. God is just and all is fair among the Sinhalese.
Prabhakaran’s mother expects asylum in Canadaby Shamindra Ferdinando
Former TNA MP M. K. Sivajilingam yesterday (March 13) expressed confidence that there wouldn’t be any problems over the departure from the country of slain LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran’s mother, Parvathiepillai Velupplai, who left the county last week without informing the authorities.
In a brief interview with The Sunday Island, the Jaffna District MP said that he helped Parvathie to obtain a new passport about a month ago and the air ticket a few days before her departure in the early hours of March 6.
Sivajilingam, who ran at the recently concluded presidential election, accompanied the ailing woman on a Singapore Airlines flight to Malaysia where her late husband’s relatives received her.
Responding to a Sunday Island query, he said that the government hadn’t been aware of their departure until she reached Malaysia. According to him, Prabhakaran’s sister, Vinodhani Rajendran, who lives in Canada will arrange to take her 79-year mother there.
He expressed confidence that Canada would quickly facilitate her travel there and in the unlikely event of Ottawa turning her down, she would have to live with her other daughter in India.
Asked whether there had been some sort of an understanding between the government and him to release Parvathie, Sivajilingam said that the Army had released her after Prabrakaran’s father passed away at the Panagoda Army cantonment on January 6.
Initially, the government directed that the body of Prabhakaran’s father should be cremated in Colombo. Sivajilingam said the government had insisted that Parvathie would be released from Panagoda on the condition that she returned there after the funeral.
The MP said that he rejected both conditions, but the government subsequently allowed him to take the body to Velvettiturai, where the cremation took place on January 10. Prabhakaran’s mother had stayed at the government hospital at Velvettiturai until she returned to Colombo on March 2 and was accommodated at a small hotel at Bambalapitiya until her March 6 flight to Malaysia.
He said that Prabhakaran’s parents, who had sought refuge in India in 1983 returned here in 2003 after the Norwegians arranged CFA came into operation in February 2002.
He revealed that civilians fleeing fighting on the Mullaitivu front last year had helped Prabhakaran’s parents to reach the army-held area. The Army found them on May 28, ten days after troops killed Prabhakaran on the banks of the Nanthikadal lagoon.
Sivajilingam said that people would have revealed their identity to the Army. He said that Prabhakaran’s father would have promptly acknowledged his identity if the Army had asked him, the politician said.
Sivajilingam and Nallathamby Sri Kantha (formerly of the TNA) are contesting from the Jaffna electoral district on the Tamil National Liberation Alliance (TNLA) ticket at the April 8 parliamentary election.
No different from what Premadasa Udugampola did when he revealed the names of Army inteligence operatives to please his then political masters. Our Sinhalese people have a funny way of honouring those who saved them from the LTTE.
Seven Soldiers detained for the murder of Lasantha

Seven soldiers belonging to the Sri Lanka Army’s Military Intelligence Unit will continue to be detained as investigations continue into the murder of Sunday Leader Editor Lasantha Wickrematunge. The seven suspects are being held for further questioning by the Terrorist Investigations Department and the Criminal Investigations Department.
The seven soldiers have been separated from an original seventeen taken into police custody as evidence unfolds which may link the soldiers to the murder of Wickrematunge, detectives said.
Lakshman Hulugalle, Director General for the Media Centre for National Security (MCNS) yesterday said that ten out of this seventeen have been released and are free to go back to their duties.
Hulugalle further denied that the former head of military intelligence, Major General Amal Karunasekera was last week placed under “Open Arrest” and is being held at the Pannagoda Army camp as part of investigations into the murder of Wickrematunge.
Sources however revealed to The Sunday Leader that the investigation is also focusing on the Head Quarters Battalion Account which is directly under the purview of the sitting Army Commander whose prerogative it is to dispose of the monies in this account. Sleuths are investigating why and how General Karunasekera transferred a significant sum of monies to the army’s Head Quarters Battalion Account during the period when Wickrematunge was assassinated and Sarath Fonseka was Commander.

British courts-martial system
Cocos Islands Mutiny
The Cocos Islands Mutiny was a failed mutiny by Ceylonese (Sri Lankan) soldiers against their British officers, on the Cocos (Keeling) Islands in May 1942.
The mutineers were to seize control of the islands, disable the British garrison and to transfer the islands to the Empire of Japan. However, the mutiny was defeated after the Ceylonese failed to seize control of the islands.
The men who were convicted of mutiny were:
· Bombardier Gratien Fernando - Death
· Gunner Carlo Augustus Gauder - Death
· Gunner G. Benny de Silva - Death
· Gunner R.S. Hamilton - Death (Commuted to penal servitude for three years)
· Lance Bombardier Kingsley W.J Diasz - Death (Commuted to penal servitude for four years)
· Gunner A. Joseph L. Peries - Death (Commuted to penal servitude for four years)
· Gunner Gerry D. Anandappa - Death (Commuted to penal servitude for three years)
· Gunner A. B. Edema - Imprisonment for one year without hard labour
· Gunner M. A. Hopman - Penal servitude for three years
· Gunner F. J. Daniels - Penal servitude for seven years
· Gunner Kenneth R. Porritt - Imprisonment for one year with hard labour
The 15 mutineers were court martialed on the Cocos Islands. Seven men were sentenced to death and four soldiers received terms of imprisonment.
Gunner Samaris Jayasekera who was killed during the mutiny, attending to a wounded friend, was buried with full military honours on Horsburgh Island on the evening of 10 May 1942 and later reburied in Singapore's Kranji War Cemetery (Plot 46, Row C, Grave 13).
The condemned mutineers were shipped back to Ceylon and imprisoned at the military jail in Flagstaff Street and then at military detention barracks at Hulftsdorp.
Bomdadier G.H. Bernando was was executed on 5 August 1942, Gunner G.B. de Silva was executed on 7 August 1942 and Gunner. C.A. Gauder was executed on 8 August 1942.
ANP,
I am not sure of what you are implying. Parvathi can not be held liable for the things her son did unless she actively violated PTA. Now for the case of MI, did you see names of the men who had been detained, let alone parading them. That is a huge difference compared to what Kulasiri Udugampola did under supervision of Ranil. Having said this I am not a fan of disturbing MI unless everything is wrong there. They shall be protected always as long as they serve the nation.

America's Secret ICE Castles:
"If you don't have enough evidence to charge someone criminally but you think he's illegal, we can make him disappear." Those chilling words were spoken by James Pendergraph, then executive director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Office of State and Local Coordination, at a conference of police and sheriffs in August 2008.
Pendergraph knew that ICE could disappear people, because he knew that in addition to the publicly listed field offices and detention sites, ICE is also confining people in 186 unlisted and unmarked subfield offices, many in suburban office parks or commercial spaces revealing no information about their ICE tenants…
If you believe ICE practices will only affect immigrants, there are numerous reports that many of those held in detention are in fact U.S. citizens. Some of these American citizens are being deported, finding themselves in a foreign land, unable to speak the language, without any resources to receive help whatsoever.
“Alla Suvorova, 26, a Mission Hills, California, resident for almost six years, ended up in B-18 after she was snared in an ICE raid targeting others at a Sherman Oaks apartment building. For her, the worst part was not the dirt, the bugs flying everywhere or the clogged, stinking toilet in their common cell but the panic when ICE agents laughed at her requests to understand how long she would be held. ‘No one could visit; they couldn’t find me. I was thinking these people are going to put me and the other people in a grinder and make sausages and sell them in the local market.”

angelo,
you have made some wrong assumptions here.
1. sinhalese???? there is no sinhalese connection here. sri lanka <> sinhalese.
and the SINHALESE have understood this very well!! no one should be treated differently just bcos he/she is a sinhalese (or a tamil or a muslim).
2. what's wrong with this innocent woman. she is the mother of vezapillai. so what???? she never engaged in terrorism. there are no charges against her. SHE IS INNOCENT!!
giving birth to vezapillai, breastfeeding him, bringing him up are NOT crimes.
FYI, army soldiers who attended to her (mainly female soldiers) were VERY fond of her.
even those who nailed jesus on the cross didn't punish holy vergin mary for being his mother 2,000 years ago!!!! what are you talking???
3. revealing gonzeka's associates who killed lasantha, etc. is NOT equal to the GREAT BETRAYAL in millinium city.
these MFs were not working for national security whereas millinium city guys were working for national security.
killing journalists was NEVER part of national security. on the contrary. it jeopadised the credibility of the HUMANITARIAN OPERATION to an extent.
don't insult the heroes of millinium city. they NEVER killed unarmed civilian journalists!!
gonzeka's ego <> national security. it is a threat to national security.
Nice come back from you know who...
MD
Assume SLA-MI guys did LW assassination. However, up to my knowledge SLA do not work in a way such as "hey guys, today we are going to kill LW.. take your bike, gun and go and kill him..", rather the top give order to eliminate a 'target'. Probably a MI guys get a order "at this place, a this time, follow this numbered this vehicle, and take target from left/right.." while they were controlled probably real time via com. set. These MI guys probably do not know who their target was. So IF SLA-MI is behind this it must be the top commander (probably Gonz) who initiated the illegal order should be responsible and punished. (I am not aware of any one other than multipolar type to pretend not having such common sense.)

When SF was army commander, he had his own coterie of journalists. Any journalist who wished to be in his good books could highlight only what happened on land. The air and sea were out of bounds. Even on land, SF had to be the central figure. One officer who proudly wrote in a Ceylon Light Infantry anniversary publication that it was Maj Gen Nanda Mallawaarachchi who had led and won the Mavilaaru operation, was booted out of office. Victor Ivan pointed out in the Ravaya that Keith Noyhar the defence correspondent of The Nation was not beaten within an inch of his life because he was in league with the LTTE, but because he got his defense stories from the sea side. And journalist Namal Perera also got his teeth knocked out because he acted as the conduit between the sea going types and Noyhar. On
one occasion, as the members of the security council waited for the arrival of the president, Sarath Fonseka had said to no one in particular "Patthara karayonta kanna bonna paga deela thamai ova liyawaganne." Wasantha Karannagoda sitting on the opposite side of the table had wanted to know "Kauda yako paga dunne?" Nothing further had happened, due to the timely arrival of the president.

Sri Lanka gets hit by strong 6.0 magnitude earthquake
By Andrew Moran.
Preliminary reports show that off the coast of Sri Lanka, a strong 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck but so far there has been no tsunami alert issued.
Colombo, Sri Lanka - On Sunday, a 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck in the Indian Ocean near Sri Lanka, according to the United States Geological Survey. There have been no immediate reports of injuries, damages or deaths. Authorities have not yet issued a tsunami alert for the region.
The earthquake’s depth was measured at 6.2 miles and was located 710 miles southeast of Colombo and 730 miles southeast of Negombo.
Sri Lanka’s earthquake is the third one to hit in the Asia area as both Japan and Indonesia experienced 6.4 and 6.6 magnitude earthquakes over the weekend. The two earthquakes were only separated by several hours.
Chile has also witnessed five earthquakes on Sunday measuring above 5-magnitude and the Philippines region also experienced a 5.0 magnitude earthquake.
This is the PRICE of allowing the TNA traitors, who aided and abetted the LTTE's terrorism and separatist warfare against the People of Sri Lanka, to get away with their treachery!

Sri Lankan Tamil party vows civil disobedience campaign
March 14, 2010
IANS
COLOMBO: Sri Lanka’s main Tamil party yesterday vowed to launch a Gandhi-style civil disobedience campaign to press a long-standing demand for regional autonomy for their ethnic minority.
The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) in its manifesto for April parliamentary elections renewed its demand for extensive regional autonomy — after Tamil Tiger rebels who fought in their name were crushed last year.
“If the Sri Lankan state continues its present style of governance without due regard to the rights of the Tamil-speaking peoples, the TNA will launch a peaceful, non-violent campaign of civil disobedience on the Gandhian model,” the party said.
The TNA was a puppet of the Tamil Tiger rebels who were crushed by security forces in May last year after 37 years of fighting. The United Nations has said up to 100,000 people were killed in the conflict.
The alliance said yesterday it would lobby neighbouring India and the international community to ensure the island’s Tamil community — 12.5 percent of the population — gets a greater say in the administration.
The Tigers agreed to a federal state in December 2002 but Norwegian-brokered talks collapsed in 2006 leading to more fighting that eventually resulted in the Tigers’ annihilation last year.
The TNA leadership has repeatedly distanced itself from hardliners who demanded outright independence for Tamils in the mainly Sinhalese country of 20 million people.
“Power sharing arrangements must be established... based on a federal structure in a manner also acceptable to the Tamil-speaking Muslim people,” the TNA said in its latest manifesto.
The TNA, a coalition of moderate Tamil parties, has 22 seats in the outgoing parliament, but the various elements have split following the crushing of the Tigers, weakening their bargaining position.
no_mess and desha,
thanks for the link. hope this would be the unearthing of many more corrupt deals in the military.
Guys,
Here is a link to a video report by CNN's Sara Sidner on IDP's Disabled in the Eelam war.
Although the video is seemingly "factual", it misrepresents the answers to the following questions:
1. Why did some of these Tamil people relocate from their homes in Jafnna into the Wanni in 1996?
Did they leave voluntarily, or were they forced by the LTTE to preserve their people captive and enable recruiting and justify demands to the government for their sustenance? What role did ethnic pride, and wanting to serve the Eelam objective play in their decisions. Are they "innocent victims" or "willing enablers"?
We KNOW the truth, but CNN reporters rarely ask those questions on camera by error or by design.
2. Why did they move with the LTTE forces as the SLA advanced, leaving their homes, to Mullaivaikal?
Were they forced at gunpoint, for the same reasons as given above and to serve as a human shield?
If so, why are these people not being asked that question?
If not so, and they accompanied the LTTE voluntarily, did they not assume responsibility for the dangers associated with that decision?
3. In which war, has a civilian population that supported the enemy, and lived in a war zone, not suffered the consequences of their actions?
Not in the US Civil War, not in World wars I & II, not in the Korean War, not in Vietnam, not in Iraq, not even now in Afghanistan! Why would it be any different in Sri Lanka?
4. These reporters see the poverty of Sri Lanka as a whole, they see the nature of the enemy Sri Lanka confronted, they understand that among these "innocent refugees" are yet large numbers of hardcore LTTE cadre's and leaders who were primarily responsible for the violence inflicted on the IDPs in particular, and all people of Sri Lanka in general, they see the national struggle to rehabilitate and restore these people their lives at government expense, but they don't explore these issues in the video.
They should visit the suicide bomb victims families, the victims of the border villages that were ethnically cleansed by the LTTE, and the thousands of disabled limbless Sri Lankan soldiers languishing all over the island.
They focus only on one side of the equation. Is there any government anywhere in the third world that has done as well in helping refugees? Do they see people dying of hunger in these camps?
5. In the video MR says the IDPs are now free to leave, but many come back. Yet, that answer is not expolred in detail .. the focus is only on the barbed wire surrounding the camps.
The reason people come back is that their land is heavily mined, their means of livelihood are largely destroyed, there are no shops to buy food, no hospitals, no post offices, no banks and no work for farmers until the land is made safe.
THAT is what MR was telling; but the video represents is as if MR is denying and hiding some dark truth that cannot be revealed.
MR was right when he cited our experience with biased reporters: reporters who publish articles without proper context, or fully representing the explanations offered, funded and sent by organizations and nations with an axe to grind against Sri Lanka.
We are STILL NOT HANDLING the MEDIA WAR correctly!
The Sri Lanka Govt should make our own videos and distribute them periodically to western media with context, full explanations, and comparisons against how other countries have handled similar situations exposed in full!
Moshe your response to Angelo is excellent.

Survey reveals how Tigers threw untrained children into Vanni battle
Defence.lk
A survey conducted by the Commissioner General of Rehabilitation has revealed that several thousands of children were forcibly recruited by the LTTE and thrown into battle in the last two years of the war.
Interviews conducted with over 11,000 detainees on a Justice and Law Reforms Ministry directive have indicated that children were deployed on the Vanni front without proper training.
Among them were some of the LTTE's best fighters, including men and women of frontline formations, such as the Charles Anthony Brigade. Among 4,580 cadres aged between 19-24 and 4,220 cadres aged between 25-34 in custody, are some of the LTTE's best fighters.
Former Commissioner General of Rehabilitation, Maj. Gen. Daya Ratnayake said that the LTTE had deployed children at gun point on the Vanni front even in May last year, weeks before the Army finished off terrorists on the banks of the Nanthikadal lagoon.
Ratnayake, who recently quit the office of Rehabilitation Chief to assume duties as the Army Chief of Staff said that those who had been critical of Sri Lanka's war against terrorism, had conveniently forgotten the Tamil speaking children had been liberated.
Among the LTTE cadres, now held in detention facilities are 4,953 who were recruited during the last two years of the battle, particularly in the Vanni region. Ratnayake said that the LTTE had sacrificed thousands of children on the Vanni front to delay the fall of its bases.
The combined security forces offensive, which was launched in March 2007 west of A9 road, concluded in the third week of May 2009.
Ratnayaka said that anyone wanting to discuss so-called accountability issues in relation to military action during the final phase of the offensive should investigate why their representatives in Sri Lanka failed to stop the LTTE using children as cannon fodder.
Ratnayake, who had commanded a section of the troops involved in the liberation of the East (mid 2006-June 2007), said that the LTTE had lost over 20,000 men and women during eelam war IV. The majority of them were children, he said. Quoting the detainees, the former Military spokesman said that the LTTE had executed some of the wounded due to its inability to treat them, though some of the wounded reached government-held areas.
According to the survey, among the detainees are 1,422 disabled personnel. Of them, four are totally deaf, one partially deaf, three totally blind, 144 partially blind, amputees (five of them without both legs, 686 without one leg each), amputees (17 without both hands, 387 without one hand each) and other disabilities 175. As at March 1 this year, altogether 10,781 LTTE cadres were being held at 17 centres, including 212 children at Hindu College, Ratmalana and 185 children at the Cooperative Training Centre, Poonthottam. Among the 10,781 detainees are 8,791 males and 1,990 females.
Justice and Law Reforms Minister Milinda Moragoda said that since last August 900 ex-LTTE combatants had been released after rehabilitation. According to him, the majority (752) had been released from detention facilities in Vavuniya. Responding to a query, Minister Moragoda said among the detainees were 108 government servants and about 150 qualified to receive a university education. According to the survey, the detainees could be trained in carpentry, masonry, electrical work, tailoring, welding, aluminium fabrication, informational technology, nursing, beauty culture, driving, teaching etc.

Frederica on the other hand looks good, MILF? do you think?
TNA manifesto specifically talks about colonization!!
whatever that's bad for them (and is legal) is good for us.
whatever that's good for them is bad for us.
SL = k.(1/TE)
one racsit party blaming another using the gonzeka strategy.
gonzeka strategy ---> b4 others point out your crimes, blame THEM with your crimes.
"The All Ceylon Tamil United Front has warned the Tamil National Alliance against conspiring to split the Tamil vote at the upcoming general election in the North and East and leave Tamils rudderless. The warning was issued to TNA leader R. Sampanthan by Dr. K. Vigneswaran."
- island.lk
if tamil votes can be divided in trinco, a non-racist party can win there.
UPFA's election strategy for north east should be..
1. don't allow TNA the trinco bonus seat.
2. don't allow SLMC the digamadulla bonus seat.
3. get more than 2 seats from jaffna
4. get more than 2 seats from vanni
5. get more than 2 seats from baticaloa
racist political parties will be screwed as never before if this is followed. this means more splits within racist parties.
TMVP contesting alone is not good. but the most important division MUST be safeguarded.
what is the MOST IMPORTANT DIVISION????
it is dividing northern tamils and eastern tamils.
as long as they are divided, we can cripple the TE project easily than otherwise.
wesapala was VEHEMANTLY against this strategy and fought with me over it like a mad bitch with the cunt on fire. it's not difficult to see why.
this strategy is working wonders.
TNA rejected TMVP bcos TMVP rejects the north east merger. TMVP are batti tamils and TNA is headed by jaffna tamils.
DIVIDE them and keep them divided.
given the VERY high population density in parts of batticaloa and lack of economic opportunities, SL should resettle batti tamils in large numbers in jajjna where the population density is low and MANY economic opportunities exist.
this will break the future tamil votebase in jaffna too.
didn't the jaffna castist racist arumuga navalar resign from his job as a teacher in protest when a batticaloa boy was admitted to his school????
the VULNERABLE group of the two will team up with the army/govt!!!!
all in the name of peace and harmony

Moshe, i too have liked the idea of putting low caste Tamils in charge of the high caste Jaffna Tamils.
We should favour batti over Jaffna, plantation over batti etc.
Great way to get them to fight each other.

Can you please give a good answer (cpmments) to this BS.

"He is still to consider such a panel's terms of reference and is in contact with his advisers, including the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, on this," the spokesperson said. ]

nisal,
thanks for the link.
although it is a CRAP news site, totally desperate MFs in SL and abroad will try to make use such CRAP in their total desperation.
here's my response.
This is not a properly researched article. Views expressed are one sided and do not portray the reality at all.
FDIs (foreign direct investments) are the most preferred economic stimulant Sri Lanka is after since 1977 for good reasons. They inject vital capital into economic activities in the country and technical expertise. They also take away marketing risk because the investor assumed all commercial risks associated with the product. There is absolutely no evidence whatsoever that these investments lead to increased rural poverty, a breakdown in domestic agriculture and food production, greater income disparities, a large foreign debt, a higher cost of living, political conflicts, suppression or violence. On the contrary, these have in fact reduced rural poverty, youth unrest, lack of rural economic participation, etc. They have pumped in vital foreign exchange not once but twice! Initially at the project development stage and then at the commercial operation stage of the project.
Also these investments have been the mainstay in poverty alleviation, not traditional agricultural based industries. Poor have benefitted most from these investments than the rich.
For the record, there never was any protests by the poor against this type of investments. Actually poor sections of the society demand from the government that more and more FDIs are channelled to their areas. Therefore the statement that these are against the poor is totally baseless.
The Sino-Indian competition for control of Sri Lanka’s economy is immensely benefitting Sri Lanka. It has already brought benefits to the country’s poor. Hambantota a previously unimportant town in a highly rural and underdeveloped area is being developed by Chinese companies in order to set up a harbour. Hambantota has been the main example of poverty in Sri Lanka before the project. Once operational this alone can change the fortunes of the poor population around Hambantota. Poor people are aware of this and they whole heartedly support this.
This is especially important when some traditional donors have looked away and stopped helping Sri Lanka at this crucial juncture when it is rebuilding after the end of a 30 year old war.
In relations to loans, normal financial considerations apply. Of course all loans must be repaid with or without interest. But direct economic benefits accruing from the project are more than sufficient to repay the loans.
On a lighter note Sri Lanka and China have over 2,000 years of diplomatic and commercial relations according to recorded history of both countries. Sri Lankans are only too happy at the expanding relations between the two friends.
massive chinese investments in SL have hut SL's enemies!!!
lovely!!
so now we know what to do.
build closer relations with china.

Well said brother.
Nothing like a wee bit of raw "communism" to please that amma-hukapan Somawansa Amarasinghe who betrayed the Motherland by siding with the TNA=LTTE arselicker aka whoredog SF who even promised to help the west prosecute "war-crimes" against the Sri Lanka Army and its leaders!
OaO Asithri
pol,
the karuna split paved the way to win the war. eastern tamils joined SL in screwing jaffna tamil dominated LTTE.
this is ENOUGH evidence to believe a PERMANANT jaffna - batti tamil split will do WONDERS.
empoering batti tamils over jaffna tamils will ensure SL maintains control over BOTH OF THEM.
also true about upcountry tamils.
they are even better. i'm refering to SL citizens. they have mastered sinhala and at the rate they are learning sinhala, they will end up as sinhalas than tamils!!!
these ppl must be empowered and resttled in jaffna.
more importantly we should NEVER allow these 3 groups to come together.
sampanthan will be soon arse licking us begging to stop tamil colonization in traditional tamil homolands.
in fighting, INTER MARRIAGES, etc. will end the VALLA-ALLALA domination of SL tamil politics.
remember, you can take a batticaloa guy out of batticaloa, but you can NEVER take batticaloa out of him!!!!

[build closer relations with china]
How true and how very timely and also very prophetic!
Little do these LTTE=RW=TNA=SF whores realize that they have LOST the plot in as far as ASIA is concerned.
Little do they know of what plans China has that include "SECURITY FOR ASIA" that in turn certainly include Sri Lanka as a friendly country.
Here's what a Chinese visiting prof. recently told me at my Alumni gathering in the US:
"my friend, spread the word out and invite the Tamil-Tigers and even a x10 force to try and harm Sri Lanka in the future and we Chinese will help you beat them rats up to the point that even their mothers will not recognize them."
wow! wow indeed!!!
:)) :)) :))
OaO Asithri
Agreed Moshe,
Upcountry Tamils are very simple and hate the way than their uppity Jaffna Anglicans upper caste overlords treat them.
These Jaffna donkeys even refused to give plantation Tamils medical treatment. Jaffna Tamil doctors refused to go out on call to visit them etc because "they were low caste". Always Sinhalese doctors would go, there was a swelling in Sinhala doctors going to attend the needs of the plantation Tamils simply out of disgust at the way the "superior" Jaffna Tamil doctors behaved.
We must defiantly Sinhalaise them. Good way to decrease separatists numbers and bolster our own :))
Asithri,
We must strengthen our relationship with China.
Areas to attend to are history;
Ancient achievements, ancient contacts dating back to the Ming Dynasty, occupation by suddha and how our nations were robbed, people subjected to massacres to make them "fall in line".
Current issues such as the war, bogus human rights preaching, West funding terrorism in Sri Lanka and committing war crimes by engineering a humanitarian catastrophe with the aim of pro-long war and violence in Sri Lanka.
There needs to be "Lanka-Sino Friendship Forum" that ensures the Chinese are fully informed of the ground realities in Sri Lanka and functions as the voice of SL in China, through not just writing to media and issuing press releases but also investing in media, journalists etc, providing documentaries covering the above two topics. That way if anyone wants to know something about SL, this would be the number one source.
It does need to be limited to China either, but function for the whole SEA region.
Looks like Ban has decided to have a quick mooning at us after getting slapped hard by NAM.
UN raises Fonseka arrest with President
March 16, 2010 08:00 am
Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon raised the arrest of a defeated Sri Lankan opposition candidate with its president and expressed concern about events in the Asian nation, the United Nations said on Wednesday.
In a telephone call Tuesday night, Ban also agreed with President Mahinda Rajapaksa that Lynn Pascoe, head of the UN political department, would visit the island soon after the presidential inauguration this month, a UN statement said.
Tensions have risen in Sri Lanka since former army commander Sarath Fonseka was arrested by military police on charges of engaging in politics against his president while still in uniform.
The UN statement said Ban “expressed his concern (to Rajapaksa) about recent developments in Sri Lanka,” brought up Fonseka’s arrest and “urged the government to respect the due process of law and guarantee (Fonseka’s) personal safety.”
Ban also pressed Rajapaksa to keep a previous commitment to make proposals for a political solution of issues with the Tamil community in the north and ensure full accountability for any human rights violations.
More needed to be done to return people displaced by the fighting with the separatists to their places of origin, the UN chief said.
Isn't it funny how they are obsessed about Gonseka's personal safety? He's in the Navy Commanders former residence can't be more safe than that.
Knowing these monkeys way of saying one thing but meaning another (such as "not undermining democracy" when they not only funded Tamil brutality but tried to install a Military dictatorship through Gonseka) could they be planning to kill Gonseka themselves?
Furthermore why is it ever idiot lectures us to "follow the law" when they seem to have no clue what Sri Lanka's laws are and are unaware the Government is doing such. Is it more of their double speak at work?
This idiot should be told to go account for the million dead in Iraq & Afghanistan, the massacre in Fallujah and elsewhere which may have happened but been hidden.
pol,
let me add.
"Good way to decrease separatists' numbers and bolster our own WITH THEIR OWN KIND!!!!"
no punishment can be more humiliating than this.
actually ppl other than TE tamils have a HUGE WEAPON.
that is BEING NON-TRIBAL.
they simply don't care caste, inheritance, pedigree, race, religion. if you are with them you are one of them.
unfortunately TE tamils don't have this quality but are HIGHLY divisive.
we MUST exploit their weakness to screw them.
can't we use chinese clout against the 13 amendment???
why don't we ask china about its preference of a political solution????
if it is also a piece of federal shitt, we can refuse it. otherwise put it in equal force against 13.
This is a good site, kudos to whoever put the time and effort into this.
http://www.squidoo.com/conflict-in-sri-lanka
It does play the usual "Tamils tricking West for votes" line which is utterly misleading line of argument and entirely false as it cloaks the Wests real activities behind the Tamil veil.
One interesting point was the reminder that Ranil is potentially the one spearheading the "war crimes" bs but in secret, if this comes out he will be in even more electoral disability than currently.
Can't forget he was in Norway in May 2009.
He flew off in December to Europe to suspend the GSP+ (it was suspended right after he went to Germany –to be honest i believe we do not really need it).
He is incredibly furious is peace crap failed.
He blames Mahinda for his electoral defeat in 2005 (for "seducing" Pabakaran with a bribe to stop Tamils from voting - this idiotic whining is also used by Blake in his latest state department "report"- frankly that is what I call a bargain).
He is furious the way is over so no more peace crap.
He is furious that Mahinda won the war –plenty of people who are jealous of this, rather than helping with the war effort they thus did their best to scuttle it earning the scorn of the nation.
Thanks Moshe for you superb comment.
Why is the Fonseka arrest for trying to launch a Military coup and other criminal activity and the attempts made to prevent this by enforcing law and order suddenly is an issue for the UN? Fonseka has no party, no seat in Parliament and is not the leader of the Opposition (the position which falls to Ranil).
On the other hand in Malaysia the leader of the Opposition, leader of the largest opposition party and member of the Malaysian Parliament has been arrested on charges of sodomy and homosexuality (charges he has denied), the fact the UN or Moon in particular has shown no interest in that demonstrates clearly who is really behind these moves against Sri Lanka as well as the ridiculous nature of the UN interfering this countries affairs.
This type of gross interference by the West and its lackeys (be they within Sri Lanka or out i.e. the UN) is not only unprecedented, no other country in the world would so quietly and meekly allow itself to be harassed like this, all political parties, media and NGOs would protests and oppose vocally and violently. Unfortunately the bankrupt opposition parties in Sri Lanka and other lackeys and kalu-suddhas are the ones encouraging such interference by opening the door and colluding with foreigners. Also proves the West really wants to save their agent Phony –something big was hatched between the two which they fear will be leaked.
From the Island political column (Dhesha will like this)
"A stark contrast
The contrast couldn’t be sharper than when one compares Basil with Sarath Fonseka. On one occasion, as the members of the security council waited for the arrival of the president, Sarath Fonseka had said to no one in particular "Patthara karayonta kanna bonna paga deela thamai ova liyawaganne." Wasantha Karannagoda sitting on the opposite side of the table had wanted to know "Kauda yako paga dunne?" Nothing further had happened, due to the timely arrival of the president.
The then army commander had one eye on the defence columns while the other eye was on the war. What we see in hindsight is that SF had been planning his entry into politics for years. Here was a military officer seeking publicity or a monopoly of the credit the way a politician would.

send the motherfcuker to 5 years prison.
while in prison, arrange other charges in a civil court to frame him for other more graver charges. send him to prison for life.
stop this piece of shitt from further discrediting war heroes.
after a year in prison, bugger will spill all the beans. KP did. SF surely will.
but prison may not have AC rooms, skimmed milk, free international telephone facilities, etc. anoma may visit him but not danuna.
BTW military courts are nothing new for gonz. 35 years ago bugger faced one.
gonz started his SLA carreer with a court martial in 1975, he ends his SLA carreer with another court martial!!!
what a champ.
I still love the OLD SF who led our boys and I still love his golden words:
"I do not know politics.I have no knowledge on politics. I am only a strong disciplined military officer.Politics do not suit my profession. If I contest I will lose my deposit and end up as the most unsuccessful politician in the history"
Moshe,
Can't use China or Russia to suggest solutions. Both of them have devolved power along ethnic lines. And how China treats Hong Kong & Macau, is exactly how wee tamizh want to be treated in Sri Lanka (one country two systems- Poopalapillai wants a puerto rico)..I reckon MR's 13+ will be 13+/- and we will have to live with it (as we have since 1987)...Land and police power will either stay at the centre or only partially devolved..N& E will remain separate..But most of all North (whilst still being Tamil majority) will be multi-ethnic..
The Mahinda Chinthana 2, still stands for a unitary state..
Moshe,
Re; UPFA strategy in N & E;
1. Trinco- According to PE results UPFA should just pip TNA for the bonus seat..It's touch and go, as we don't know the relative strength of TMVP..The other seat will go to UNP (SLMC)
2. Digamadulla- According to PE result UPFA should win comfortably..4 for UPFA 2- UNP (SLMC) 1-TNA
3. Batti - If UPFA gets 2 seats (out of 5) they should be the winner of the district. Me reckons only 1 for UPFA with TNA getting 2 and UNP (SLMC), TMVP 1 each..
4. Jaffna- Government is unpopular among wee thamizh..According to PE result 2-3 Seats is possible only if turnout is same or lower..High turnout and only 1 seat will come (that too EPDP)..UNP should get 1-2, rest (6-7)TNA...
5. Wanni- Again depends on the turnout.. TNA likely to get 3, UNP of UPFA sharing the other 3.. (If PLOTE is coming from UPFA, then they UPFA likely get 2)..However with high turnout TNA can get 4...
If TNA is kept to 15 seats in NE (out of 31)..That is a victory for government..And if the total number of votes drop (very likely with no LTTE), another victory for the government..
Moshe,
The muslim candidates in the UNP lists are SLMC ..So maybe Athaulla and the lot are right, when they say a large number of muslims voted MR in PE..SLMC comes with the UNP in N& E only when it's jittery of itself..
TMVP will learn to stick to the east and stick to the UPFA, when they get crushed in the North and only get 1-2 seats in the east..As Moshe said N & E Tamizh (and of course the estate tamizh) should be kept separate from each other..TMVP is increasingly becoming Indian puppet by demanding land powers (soon they may also be for re-merger)..Hope GE defeat will open their eyes
diyasena,
you are right. but not true on china and russia having racial boundaries.
china ethnicity map
russian regions map
what i was more interested is what china would want SL to be for china's best interests.
unitary or federal along racial lines.
but SL should adopt what serves us best than anyone else. none of them at the end of the day care about SL national interests.
re: TMVP
they don't have a parliamentary seat at the moment. they are trying for one or a couple. it's stupid to go alone unless they are certain to get more support that way. but i think govt has not given up on pillayan. i too think he has some indian connection.
Moshe,
Tibet, Xinjiang and Inner Mongolia are all ethnic regions (overlay the regions on the ethnicities map).. However all have Han colonies..
Same goes for Russia the 14 ethnic Respubliks (including the Buddhist majority Kalmykya & Tuva) have more power devolved than the orkugs and the oblasts..However most of these sepublics too have significant Russian minorities..
However Russification has not exactly stopped sepratism..The Ukraine, Kazakstan and Latvia have 30-40% Russians
Russians in Latvia (those born in the Soviet era) are not even granted automatic citizenship..They have to learn Latvian language and history..
A similar fate awaits the Sinhalese of the east and Vavuniya, if TNA ever gets its wish
Gonseka talked to Channel 4. Why did they allow Gonseka to talked to foreign media.

Gonseka speaking to Channel 4, nothing more comical than that.
They branded him "butcher of Tamils" not many moons ago.
Channel 4 is a racist anti-Sinhala garbage media out let, and its news section is known for forgery and faked documentaries and staged drama.
And as always they give the usual one sided version.
He has not spoken to Channel 4 directly he has "smuggled out" hand written letters to them. LOL, all the more dramatic, what a real achievement by Mrs Gonseka. Just like the bogus channel 4 "war crimes" video which was also "smuggled out".
Seems Jay-han has been giving Fonseka some address from his address book hikz.
diyasena,
Tibet and Inner Mongolia were parts of other countries taken over by china. it is not an ethnic based divide. these countries had their own ethnic groups when china took control of them. not the other way round.
Xinjiang is a problem region but colonization is working well.
russia is not based on ethnic boundaries. some regions do have a high percentage of ethnic groups but the regions are strictly not following the racial boundaries, especially the larger ones.
ukraine, lituania, estonia, latvia, etc. were (and are) not part of russia. never were. they were dragged in by the soviet union.
russia is in a mess even today. not at all a good role model.
