Arrested! Fonseka's Follies Finally Earn Him Legal Retribution

No Sri Lankan Patriot wanted it to come to this, but Gen. Sarath Fonseka had not learned this basic principle of survival: When immersed nose deep in mud, the wise keep their mouths closed!

Gen. Fonseka will have the time to ponder this truism, as he contemplates the errors of judgment that led to his precipitous fall from grace from being, perhaps, the third most admired man in Sri Lanka to one of the most vilified, in a brief period of nine months. World history abounds with such instances of foolish men of unbounded ambition destroying themselves when they loosen their grasp on honor, duty and patriotism.

Colombopage had this to say today (February 08, 2010) about Gen. Fonseka's arrest:

General Fonseka has been arrested on charges of committing military offenses during his time in the Army," the newly appointed military spokesman Major General Prasad Samarasinghe said in an official statement to the Government Media Unit. He did not elaborate on the specific offenses.

Director General of the Media Centre for National Security, Lakshman Hulugalle, said Fonseka would face charges in a military court of conspiracy against the government.

.....

The government has accused General Fonseka of plotting to assassinate the President and overthrow the government by a coup. The government has arrested over 50 of his loyal retired military officers on planning the coup. General Fonseka denies all government's accusations against him.

However, a BBC report said earlier in the day the General had threatened to divulge the military secrets in response to alleged war crimes against the Sri Lankan military during the final phase of the war against the LTTE.

.....

Early in his presidential campaign in an interview to a Sunday weekly, the opposition candidate accused the Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa of ordering the Army's 58 Division leader to kill the senior LTTE cadres who were attempting to surrender with white flags.

He later retracted the statement saying the paper misquoted him but the government and the media said the retired commander betrayed the nations and the damage to the country and the military had been done by the General's statement for political gain.

According to The Asian Tribune the main charges, read out to Gen. Fonseka at the time of his arrest, were

• Politicking whilst in uniform,

• Conspiring against the Commander-in-Chief whilst in Service,

• Harboring more than 1,500 deserters whilst on Service,

• And, corrupt practices in relating to military procurements.

We trust that the Government has all of the necessary evidence to support these charges, and that they will promptly release him if the evidence available cannot stand up to legal scrutiny. However, what we know of Gen. Fonseka's activities to date since the end of the Eelam War in May, 2009, as reported in the press and elsewhere, leads us to believe that Gen. Fonseka will be convicted in a court of law, and will spend a significant portion of his life behind bars.

We take no joy in the downfall of one we considered a war-hero, but we firmly believe that those who betray their country by deed and word for ANY REASON WHATSOEVER, must be held ACCOUNTABLE, if only to serve as an example to deter others from VIOLATING the Law of the Land, and UNDERMINING the National Security of the Motherland.

Let ALL those who conspire to betray the Motherland, and violate Sri Lanka's laws with impunity take note: You will no longer will be allowed to run free; you will be held accountable for your actions! You can RUN, but you will not be able to HIDE! Therefore, CEASE and DESIST, in your own interest.

"Incumbent presidents were criticized at previous elections, but none so venemously as the present president."

http://www.island.lk/2010/02/19/features5.html

MR achieved more than JR, PR, CBK and Ranil combined yet their were vocal groups demanding "change", naturally spearheaded by Colombians who dislike MR simple because "he is not one of them".

Anonymous said...

Too bad our idiotic and traitorous opposition is only interested in grabbing power. They will never agree "to work together" and as we have seen will work against the nation to the maximum.

"Q. The opposition has been out of power for a long time and are chafing and resentful...

A. The presidential system was designed in such a way that the holder of that position stands even above the constitution. While J.R.Jayewardene thus concentrated power in his hands, he allowed those below him be they ministers or officials to make money. What has prevailed to date is this system. This has to change. Today politics is bound up with making and spending money. You need a lot of money to get into power. This money has to be made by some means. I don’t say that corruption can be ended completely. But the president can without continuing as we have done in the past, initiate a change. What is most important is asking for the cooperation of the opposition. Today, we see a situation where the antagonism between the government and the opposition is as intense as the hatred that existed between the LTTE and all those opposed to them. This is not good for the country.

Q. If you compare Mahinda Rajapakse with some previous holders of that position, he is by no means an oppressive or dictatorial president, yet, as you say the tensions between the UNP and UPFA very intense. It’s not only he who has to come halfway…

A. This system that we are talking of was created by the UNP. This system was designed in such a way that it is extremely difficult to dislodge an incumbent government. Once power went to a different party, the problem confronting the UNP was how to get it back. Both these parties have suffered under this system. The SLFP suffered from 1977 to 1994 and the UNP has been suffering in the same way since 1994. So while there should be a signal for change from the president, an even bigger signal to this effect has to come from the opposition. Now for quite a while, no change of government will be possible. We now have an opportunity to dream dreams of a less antagonistic political culture where people will be able to work together. Even if these dreams are never realized, merely dreaming such dreams will serve to reduce the antagonism between us. When a president wins an election, he is the president of those who voted against him as well. There are many challenges confronting this government. One is the challenge coming from the western countries over human rights and so on. The way to face this challenge is for all of us to get together to rebuild this country. The way we can face criticisms from the international community is not by appealing to them or making excuses, but by showing that everybody has got together to rebuild the nation.

"I think those who agitate against the elections and detention mustn't resort to street protests but make use of the law of the land and courts and put their case."

They go to do street protests because they do not have a case nor do they care for the law or Gonseka. They care about retaining their power and wealth. So getting rid of MR who is "not one of them" is number one priority. So long as he is there they are kept out of power circles and worse MR gets to fulfil his other sin of creating power/economic centres throughout the country resulting Colombo no longer having a monopoly, so getting rid of him by whatever means is a must. Military dictatorship, LTTE victory, foreign occupation, crippling economic sanctions, anything is better than MR.

According to AT Sf is resigning to his fate. Moreover, SF has not given a word to UNP for its invitation that SF contests under Elephant. This means that he has not given a definite word to JVP for its invitation to lead them.

This may mean that, taken all of these together, SF understand the situation he is in may trying to get back with MR.

If MR forgives SF in a personal level that is not my business. I am very happy for him to do so.

This, however, cannot mean that law and order will not apply to him or any serious position will be given to him.

SF should be legally pursued with equal vigour as it is up to now. Also he cannot be given any positon that would enable him to get to a position of canibalising the Nation.

Most of the things he had done during the current war was endanger the National security to satisfy his ego.

This cannot continue.

Forgiving in law and order level means that MR is also corrupted to the core.

However, the best way to defeat an enemy is to make the enemy a friend of yours under right terms and principles without putting you into the same mud that your enemy is in.

Interesting time is ahead.

SU,

Knowing MR he will forgive him.

However Gonseka has to serve his time.

We have gone beyond the point of return.

SF can break down and beg for forgiveness and admit his wrongs in the trial or where ever ("i shouldn't have done what i did") but the damage is DONE.

He must see the consequences, not just for him but future transgressors and traitors.

If what AT says is true and he apologises and realises his mistakes his sentence should be halved "for the work he did for the country" (but seeing his recent behaviour I really wonder what role he actually played if one at all) otherwise the nation will accept his apology and be angry with MR for not "pardoning" him, also need to make sure no future President can let this rat out.

Anyway this is Gonseka, so i highly doubt it. It could be a trap; he is pathological lair after all. As soon as he is out he will stab MR in the back again. It is his nature.

Its the old fable of the scorpion and the fox.

What are you talking about, Iranian protests are being done by their Colombians and other paid for turncoats and thugs.

Our Colombians are too "uppity" to get their hands dirty with violent protests so its contracted out to JVP.

JVP probably expected mass support, when it didn't come they gave up, that or they only had enough money given at the time (before CID seized the accounts) to bus in and pay for "protestors" just for one day. Again not enough supporters, UNPers did not want to leave their ACed rooms and vehicles to break a sweat.

If Gonseka was out and about we would see Iranian style crap unleashed on Sri Lanka evertwhere. Bet the GE will be more peaceful than PE with Gonseka locked up.

Mano facing electoral genocide:

"Furthermore Mano Ganeshan, the leader of the 'Democratic National Alliance' in his latest press release has taken up cudgels against the UNP.

In a letter sent to the UNP leader Ranil Wickramasinghe, the Democratic Peoples Front leader Mano Ganesan has irritatingly pointed out that “It seems that UNP wants Tamil votes but not Tamil MPs in Colombo. It is a breach of understanding and trust between our two parties.

Please check this conspiracy against our party and Tamil community.”

He has further cautioned if the UNP is not going to stop nominating a Tamil businessman to contest as a UNP candidate from Colombo, “otherwise we will part ways with UNF.”

It is learnt that UNP is planning to nominate to the post of an MP, the youngest brother of the late T. Maheswaran, who was the former UNP Tamil MP from Colombo.

Mano Ganeshan speaking to Asian Tribune said that UNP has decided to nominate T. Thirukesan, a businressman who was associated with Minister Douglas Devananda for his business activities, alleges Mano Ganeshan. He is the youngest brother of Late T. Maheswaran.

He further alleged that “Certain UNP politicians in your nomination board are trying to introduce nonentity traders as UNP Tamil candidates in Colombo and destroy our party. It is a sick game plan to split Tamil preferential votes and block fair Tamil representation in the next parliament.”

EPDP contesting UPFA and athaulla going alone..Both will lead to increase in TNA seats..

TNA will likely take JAffna with bonus seat..So by contesting separately, UPFA, UNP, SLMC & EPDP had the chance of eating into the remaining 8 seats (Remeber 5% = 1 seat, 12.5 =2 seats)..Even if UPFA gets 17.5% they will get only 2 seats in JAffna..However if EPDP gets 12.5% and UPFA 5% 3 seats can be taken..Same goes for the Muslim Congress and UNP going alone in Jaffna (which they are not)..

Different Scenario in Digamadulla & TCO..TCO has 4 seats only (including bounus), so if more than 3 parties have 5%+, the 3 parties with the highest votes will get the seats.. If UPFA goes with Athaulla & Pillaiyan they will get 2 seats (with the bonus)..However if Pillaiyan & Athaulla go separate..The TNA will get the bonus seat of TCO..

Batticaloa (5 seats) & Vanni (6 seats) however is like Jaffna..Insufficient Sinhala votes for UPFA to win the districts..So best is to contest separately (UPFA, TMVP, PLOTE, UNP, SLMC) and get a seat each by getting 5%

Is President Rajapakse endowed with extra-ordinary powers to divide?

SRI lankaGuardian Article;

Mahinda Rajapaksha's ability is not about dividing. His ability was to feel the peoples' pulse and stand and deliver the need of the hour. His leadership in the war agianst the LTTE and development of country divided the others.

If MR did not follow these policies then the opposition would have divided MR's side.

When th MR's resolve to defeat LTTE was evident some UNPers would have wanted to be a part of it and others would have seen that the UNP would not have a future in the near future.

These effects should have leaked into the other parities also making divisions.

See what happened to TNA/ Mano and UNP, SF and Mangala.

It is not Mahinda divided them. They divided themselves since they did not muster proper means to counter the MR' policies. For instance, unconditional support to MR during the war would have paid them handsome dividends since MR is not faultless.

For instance, when the Government needed JVP support the most they conspired with UNP and tried to defeat the the Government at the budget.

This did not go well with some then JVPer's like Wimal W.

They wanted MR to continue so that the LTTE would be beaten.

They are getting divided for the only reason that they are paying Ditta Dhamma Wedaniya Karma for their treachery against the Nation. No point of giving credit to MR or cursing MR. They need to solve their problem and stand for the needs of the Nation. Country first power later.

Niger junta names platoon commander as its leader

By DALATOU MAMANE, Associated Press Writer Dalatou Mamane, Associated Press Writer – Fri Feb 19, 6:16 pm ET

NIAMEY, Niger – A junta that seized power in a coup in the West African nation of Niger named a platoon commander as its leader Friday, hours after soldiers announced on state TV that their group was in charge of the uranium-rich country.

Former colonial ruler France and the African Union both condemned Thursday's coup, when armed soldiers stormed the presidential palace in a hail of gunfire during broad daylight and kidnapped the country's strongman leader. The whereabouts of President Mamadou Tandja remained unknown Friday.

The junta, which calls itself the Supreme Council for the Restoration of Democracy, declared it was being led by Salou Djibo, a little known commander of a platoon based near the capital. It also announced the reopening of the country's borders and the lifting of a curfew that had been in effect.

The junta has said it wants to turn Niger into "an example of democracy and of good governance." A diplomat in the region described the coup's leaders as being part of an army faction that is deeply disillusioned with Tandja for violating his constitutionally mandated term limit.

The country has become increasingly isolated since then, with the 15-nation regional bloc of West African states suspending Niger from its ranks and the U.S. government cutting off non-humanitarian aid and imposing travel restrictions on some government officials.

However, there are also fears that the military group could attempt to cling to power in Niger, as the junta in Guinea did following a December 2008 coup. The coup leader there first promised to hold elections in which he would not run, only to later suggest he may have changed his mind. Only a year later, he went into voluntarily exile after his aide-de-camp tried to assassinate him.

The African Union's top executive, Jean Ping, condemned the coup in Niger and said Friday that the AU "demands a quick return to constitutional order."

In Paris, French Foreign Ministry spokesman Bernard Valero said France "condemns any seizure of power by non-constitutional methods."

U.S. State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley said Tandja may have invited his own fate by "trying to extend his mandate in office."

Both the United States and ECOWAS have expressed our concerns about that, and obviously that may well have been an act on his behalf that precipitated this act today," Crowley said Thursday, while adding that the U.S. does not defend the violent takeover. ECOWAS is the regional bloc of 15 West African countries.

Sinhalese influx into "Tamil heartland" of Jaffna

JAFFNA: The northern Tamil heartland of Jaffna, which had been inaccessible by land since 1990, is experiencing a post-conflict Sinhalese tourist influx from south Sri Lanka.

Though it brings loads of money into Jaffna, it puts tremendous pressure on the limited facilities and infrastructure in existence, giving rise to fears of health hazards.

A majority of the southern visitors are Buddhist pilgrims going to the ancient Nagadeepa Buddha Vihara, associated with one of Buddha’s visits to Sri Lanka. But there are a large number of traders and casual visitors too. The place is still not open to foreigners, though a few travel with clearance from the Ministry of Defence in Colombo.

The Sinhalese traders are doing brisk business, mostly satisfying the sartorial fancies of the younger Tamil hoi polloi. “Business is good and the Tamil people of Jaffna are the nicest in Sri Lanka,” said 30-year-old Rohitha selling children’s and ladies clothes.

“We have been here only for a few weeks but we are making good profit,” he said.

The boarding and lodging facilities expected by the visitors seem to be minimal.

Since most of them are Buddhist pilgrims from the lower middle classes, they seem to be quite happy to sleep in the stands of the Duraiappah Stadium, a converted camping site which receives 20 bus loads of people everyday.

The pilgrims, all in white, cook their own meals in pots and pans brought from the south. The Jaffna municipality keeps filling the water tanks, so there is no water shortage.

In places like Achchuveli, the paddy fields are used as toilets. Jaffna is still not ready to receive middle and upper class visitors. It lacks in decent hotels, lodges or guest houses. The upkeep of the existing hotels is poor even as they charge the earth.

Houses of those who had migrated to the West are rented out by their caretakers for a few thousand rupees a day.

Some resident house owners rent out a room or two on a daily basis.

“The government has to control the influx so that people who come need not put up with poor facilities,” said Jaffna Chamber of Commerce president R Janakumar.

One thing to note is the anger of suddha over Chinese (Indian and other) investment into Sri Lanka.

Back in 2007, they "threatened" us with their glorious aid weapon. MR in a brilliant style gave the finger and shut up their big shot "aid cut" statements, ensuring development on the micro and macro scale would continue.

Under Raniliam when the US sneezed our economy would crash, which is why the "aid weapon" was so potent a threat till MR solved it, US was about to be locked out from SL that they hushed the rhetoric on this front.

Unlike Ranilam and previous Colombian based governments he did not base his entire thinking and policies on what the West wants and going hands and feet to their embassies on pilgrimages. Hence the unprecedented allegations, propaganda and venom against MR from both Colombians and suddha with the latter egging on the former.

The cat humping dole bludger from NZ has faked my ID too..DW I'll make a suggestion..Why don't you amalgamate the blog with Defence Forum and become an admin there..

1. This way real people, can enjoy reading your insightful articles, as you have admin privileges..It will be like the good old days..

2. As there are many admins (Ananda, Moshe etc..) someone will be around to delete the tirades of ran gona and his multiple avatars..

Give with some thought and contact someone from DF if you agree..

This way Rana/ kathuri/ Pansilu/ Romeo/ Keshara/ Parrot/ davinda knox can peacefully vent his rejection by fat maori women, on (Ellalan) Farce blog (The latter part well suits the incest dad)

Jokes aside now, i would like to know, is this Rana a real person, his behaviour real? If he and his avatars are just some hired goons (UNPers, Tamilia, Jay-Han) or its just some act i would actually feel better because the thought that such a mentally deranged nut can exist and to have actually seen what he is capable of is well unsettling. Anyway we can inform his friends, relatives (maybe some we Tamiz?) to get him some help?

Why isn't main media not talking about colonization?

I see a parallel between colonization and defeating terrorism. About 10 years ago no one talked about defeating terrorism militarily. Only a handful of people did so and they were branded as war mongers and racists. But we all know how that ended up.
Similarly, now not many talk about colonization. I think they don't talk about it out of fear for being called racists or any other name.

Even I had doubts about colonization first. But the more I thought about it, less fearful it seemed.
I think the reason for this fear and doubt of colonization arise from our subconscious acceptance that NE belong to Tamil people. Who infused this into our minds? It's none other than Eelam project and its racist members (and supported by our own opportunistic politicians).

First, we must convince ourselves that the whole of Sri Lanka belongs to all Sri Lankans. Then colonization looks as normal as going to the market.
We are talking about settling people on UNINHABITED land. What's wrong with that? We are not chasing away people from an area and bringing in new people. With what can we be accused of? Are we violating any international laws? If so what are they? The only possible accusation could be "Genocide of Land" by TN.

The next govt. need to find a Mavilaaru for colonization!

/Mano Ganesan to sign MoU with DPF

Democratic People’s Front (DPF) leader Mano Ganesan will sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the United National Party (UNP) tomorrow to contest under the auspices of the United National Front (UNF.)

After a meeting with top UNP officials yesterday Mr Ganesan reached an understanding regarding on how many DPF candidates will contest under the UNF banner.
Speaking to LAKBIMAnEWS DPF leader Mano Ganesan said “After a discussion with UNP representatives we agreed to field three candidates for the Colombo district, two candidates each for Nuwara Eliya, Batticaloa and Vanni districts. We will also present one candidate each for Gampaha, Kalutara, Kandy, Ratnapura and Kegalle respectively,” he said. “We will sign a formal MoU tomorrow.”
Ganesan also added that they also received an invitation from the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) to join the newly formed Democratic National Alliance (DNA.) But after careful perusal of the situation the DPF decided to contest with the UNF, he added.

Earlier this week Ganesan threatened to leave the UNF because of the nominations board’s decision to field several ‘political traders’ for the Colombo district./

This is how our "democratic" parties manupulate the system. What happen here is if some one gives one preferential for mano gona he will probably give other two preferentials to other mano gona guys. If the minority party has 5% they probably get all 3 seats from a district.

While main party (UNP/SLFP) have so many candidates, except for probably a national level leader other preferentials be distributed on a natural basis, based on popularity. Finally, one who supports minority parties will get 3 MPs while one who supports a main party will get 1 MP.

JVP did the same trick with UPFA and got 39 wheras their real portion at that time was around 13 MPs.

If we continue this preferential system GSL must amend it so that you have just one preferential. There will be no harm for any one as long has you will not end up with zero preferentials. Offering more than 3 slots for a district seems a solution but may backfire against a well organized party such as JVP.

Not just WJM, all the patriotic UNP members shall with him to usher in the golden era of our motherland under the leadership of President Rajapakse.

US Tamil Eelam advocates in US Supreme Court to revive separate state in Sri Lanka

http://www.asiantribune.com/news/2010/02/21/us-tamil-eelam-advocates-us-supreme-court-revive-separate-state-sri-lanka

India will never allow such and as the US values their current relationship with India they won't buckle it over chauvinistic stateless Tamilia.

However the Government must be aware of this sort of activity and be pro-active for once. The reactionary stance and lack of interest in these secondary, tertiary fronts is causing problems and by the time Government responds the damage is done.

Swarnajith Udana said...

In the meantime, ongoing CID investigations into the alleged attempt to overthrow the government, assassinate the President and the material that will unfold before the General Court Martial, has laid bare an important aspect. It has come to light during investigations that Gen. Fonseka had, built an intricate network of retired military officers and soldiers in almost all electorates for political activity in the weeks ahead of the presidential polls. His staff at the office in Rajakeeya Mawatha had been dealing directly with these retired military men instead of working through the machinery of the opposition parties at district and electoral level. UNF leaders are now incensed by the details that are slowly emerging.

The UNF expected Gen. Fonseka to integrate his network to the opposition political structure at the grassroots level. Instead, he was formulating an independent military network of his own with retired personnel. This had been on the advice of retired military officers who were functioning from his office. Thus, if he had won, UNF leaders now say, he would have expected the opposition parties to fall in line with his own network. Though late, some opposition members heave a sigh of relief that this did not happen.

It was an irony that the Government's position was also this; that Fonseka had a network of military personnel, past and present working for him to be the next Commander-in-Chief. Their investigations uncovered more than any individuals especially in the Army supporting their former Commander, groups of serving army officers, even units showing dissension to the Government. While politics in the Army was not something new, this mass-scale politicking purely because of the proximity of his candidacy to his posting as Army Commander was unprecedented.

Sunday Times

Even UNpers are relieved that Idi Amin failed. Who would not?

SFis was defeated by the voters and patient work of MR and GR

Swarnajith Udana said...

According to a highly placed Defence Ministry official, the Government opted to do it that way rather than unleash organised pro-Government mobs to a kind of 'people's arrest' of Fonseka. They say that the relative calm around the country after the elections was not because the people were shocked that Fonseka lost, but because the police and reliable army units were on the streets as a damper to public celebrations. In Colombo, the Defence Secretary's former regiment, Gajaba were on the streets. Fonseka may have misread this calmness, the official added.

Thus General Fonseka, like a pendulum, went from war hero to peace zero. He then swung from zero to political hero after his arrest by military policemen. Now, with new disclosures emerging from CID investigations and his tie-up with the JVP, where he would zero in at the parliamentary polls and thereafter remains the critical question

in the same Sunday Times political collumn

I feel that now it has almost reached the critical point that the SF's arrest being a political liabality turning into a politicl gold digger.

If the Government communications are not sensationalised and put as the real facts as they are, in coming weeks it will develop into a situation that can surely bring more political gold.

A GOOD READ….explains the angle that this last PE when that Gonseka sucker appeared on the scene to contest and take the LOSER title, it was really a God-send for Ranil ponnaya. Gives credence to the view that like in the past where previous military men with noteworthy records were used by RW/UNP to prop up their unpopularity with the masses, this time too they found a grand sucker!

http://www.nation.lk/2010/02/21/newsfe3.htm

Some noteworthy excerpts:

Let’s do a quick recap to start things off. The UNP was in a quandary. Well, let’s say Ranil Wickremesinghe was in a quandary. The presidential election was coming up and the incumbent, Mahinda Rajapaksa was enjoying unprecedented popularity for someone seeking re-election. A re-play of November 2005 would have seen Ranil getting creamed and the natural play would have seen the UNP getting creamed in the parliamentary Election that would have followed. There would have been renewed calls for Ranil’s head and although I am pretty sure he would prevail, he wouldn’t come off un-bloodied.
Fonseka’s defeat was Ranil’s victory. He consolidated. His leadership was now secure. He recovered the elephant symbol. The UNP was able to convince all the three-wheeler parties to contest under the elephant symbol. Fonseka, shot his mouth, spat too far, painted ‘security risk’ all over himself and virtually wrote himself out of the political equation. Ranil’s smile grew wider. Fonseka behind bars was a plus for the UNP because it have the part an additional slogan on the one hand while taking out a potential bull in the china shop kind of personality from the campaign trail (read, ‘one less headache to worry about’).
Why should Ranil Wickremesinghe risk all that? He is sitting pretty. He is well positioned to retain his post as Leader of the Opposition. He doesn’t have to do the silly thing of letting the JVP tap into the UNP’s vote base.
And so, after all the excitement of the presidential election, it is business as usual: the greens vs the blues. Few would be upset about the JVP’s dilemmas. I have only one concern. Sarath Fonseka has suffered much on account of being taken for a ride by one Mangala Samaraweera. His arrogance and villainy aside, the man has still done much more for the country that all the JVPers and all the UNPers put together. He has been made to bite the dust and he can’t blame anyone for this but himself, his naiveté and arrogance. There’s a limit, though. He’s reached it. Let him be now. The law will take its course, of course, but there’s no reason why the man should be further used to serve the narrow and selfish political objectives of anyone, least of all the JVP.

No, this happened in Scarborough, Canada!

Now where are those pesky gadflies from Reporters Sans Frontières? Here is the rest of the stoty:

[The threats stemmed from a recent meeting Sellathurai, President of the Canada-Sri Lanka Business Council and the United Tamil Council of Canada, had with the Sri Lankan president Mahinda Rajapaksa.

The meeting was covered in Uthayan, a paper widely read by Toronto’s Sri Lankan diaspora, as well as Sri Lankan media and websites.

Sellathurai said the call made to newspaper editor Logan Logendralingam said, “your friends went and met the president, now you go and see what happened to your store.”]

"Has Dude Danuna Sold His Mother for Rs 75 million??

Prof. Hudson McLean

Judas sold Jesus Christ for 30 pieces of silver!

Converted to US$ today with inflation after 2000 years, it might come to a handsome sum, depending on the value of silver then.

In today’s terminology, “Money Talks & Bullshit Walks”, and Apsara’s greed to save the Bucks and help the father, whilst Dude Danuna is “on the run”, was to sacrifice the mother-in-law.

Would any son who has suckled the mother’s breast could wake up and see his mother being sent to “Hard Labour” with drug addicts, prostitutes and petty criminals in a Sri Lankan prison, even for a month and to save his skin and money?

Looks like (Fonzy) father-in-law like (Dude Danuna) son-in-law, who would betray his own mother to salvage his freedom! The General planned to sell his own gallant Army comrades and Mother Lanka, whilst the Dude perhaps instructed his wife to sacrifice the own mother.

Perhaps it was Apsara who wanted to save her father and use the “proverbial” mother-in-law to “pull the nuts from the fire”. Why couldn’t she get her own mother to handle the matter? Perhaps she knew of the potential consequences. If that was the case, a quickee divorce from Dude Danuna might be on the cards, so Apsara can enjoy the “spoils” whilst Dude Danuna “rest” in prison in Sri Lanka and possibly in USA. So more “shit might hit the fan”. (Sorry Editor for use of bland).

This could be straight from an old Pink Panther comedy!

How could the US$ 500,000+ in brand newly printed notes in numbered sequence be imported into Sri Lanka without declaring at Customs?

Either the General and Dude Danuna “fixed” the Customs Officers with a few bundles of moolah, or the money came via the Diplomatic Pouch to one of the Embassies in Colombo.

History repeats itself! If one remembers how then Government of the Day, collaborated with the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Colombo to import “Duty Free”, high technology communications equipment and transport same to Wanniya as a “gift”.

The same equipment was subsequently used by the Tamil Tiger Terrorists leader Velupillai Prabhakaran to propagate his Eelam and use the equipment against Sri Lanka.

It is very likely that the governments of USA and Norway had their thumb prints on the dollar transaction, which was collected by Fonzy and his cronies during one of their drive-ins to the Embassies. This was a “numbered” set-up. Couldn’t they give old used notes with random numbers? Just like they ask in good old movies!

The rumour has it that it was a cool million Green Backs. Where did the balance of US$ 473,000.00 disappear? Since they are “hot from the print” the numbers will point to the end users in due course. Someone or several are holding onto a “smoking bundle”.

As it stands, there might be many Fonsekas and Tillekeratnes’ playing Scrabble together in Welikada! And more “porridge” to come from an American criminal enquiry on fraud.

Would some TV script-writer plan a soap-opera based on Sri Lankan politics?"

BEAUTIFUL

I quite agree brother... This is the most important action we should take at present since we have so much of bare land....

When DS Senanayake established the Padaviya, Siripura = and other colonies those days I heard there were a lot of opposition to that.. We should do the same in a different name...

Perhaps the GOSL with the help of Army and other departments could do the infrastructure, and all other facilities & amenities and demarcate plots of lands and openly invite people to come forward and apply for the plots..... it has to be advertised in all the media and opened to all communities. Naturally more Sinhalese will come forward since Tamils are few and most of them are living in places like Canada..etc . Conditions to be clearly laid that these lands should not be sold and if anyone do not want them it should be given back to the Land commission or what ever the body who was handling the task.

Much time should not be given so that people living overseas can not come and apply.

If any left after the offered period, they should be given to Armed forces members.

No one can call this colonization.. but the job will be done...

tata, hiranthe,

from what i heard from a dissanayake (gamini also faced this problem during the mahaweli scheme) was that these allegations were MAINLY non-racist.

e.g. there are mosquitos the size of bed bugs

there are world's most vicious serpents in these areas

these were spreaded by LSSP, communist party MFs.

they want ppl to be poor forever.

Moshe Dyan said...

tamil racist parties also had their protests. but governments disregarded these bcos there's no ELECTORAL LOSS.

during the mahaweli scheme govt expected TULF which was VERY VERY strong at that time to cripple the project.

but TULF was BANNED b4 the mahaweli project went into high gear. right in time.

had the TULF buggers allowed to protest, there would have been havoc.

Thanks Moshe.
I'd say that's a quite decent accusation (as opposed to accusing along race lines.) by then opposition.

another thing.

as a result, some previously colonized areas had to be abandoned.

Moshe Dyan said...

tata,

but they are trapped in a way.

they cannot directly play the race card bcos that exposes their racism of ACCEPTING tamil homolands!!!

so UNP and JVP will be cautious in playing it. but TNA, TULF will MOST CERTAINLY play the race card.

OTOH, IC is fully for it. they love EI.

Moshe Dyan said...

a funny thing happens in the UNP.

my sources say that there is a BIG move in the UNP to chase out mano gona from contesting.

RW knows he is facing a tough GE. bugger won the highest pref votes in the past 3 elections.

this time wimal and gonz (possibly) challenge him.

but RW knows gonz and wimal cannot win tamil votes.

so he wants as many tamil votes as he can get.

of course there are 3 preferences, but he calculates that some ppl will give ONE preference to mano gona and won't give any to RW.

but if there are no tamil candidates from colombo from the UNP, tamils have no choice than to vote for RW.

Once this kalawedda news becomes old news and specially if UPFA get close to 150 seats and start working on cons. amendments the prominent issue in SL politics will again be the so called ethnic problem and the solution which is 13 plus minus etc.

The defensive strategy should be electing many as possible from JHU/JNP/MEP parties.

However, the long term 'solution' should be 'janapadhakaranaya'. A repetition or exact extension of DSS janapadhakaranaya may not work for obvious reason. Hence, a new approach is suggested.

0. Awareness via threat
Media, scholars etc need to emphasize the need and importance of 'janapadhakaranaya'. Public should be informed if current ethnic ratio prevails its possible to NE get self rule and then separate state which is not 30,000 youth sacrificed their lives for. Its very likely next PE/GE will be admin change, i.e. UNP rule. Specially with RW this will be disastrous for sinhalese. If he agrees for referendum in NE >75% will be for self rule. The only reliable way to make sure SL will be not divided is having at least 50% sinhalese in NE. Further, this will avoid any possible future war again in NE.

1. Development
Build main roads, give electricity and other facilities. This can be easily funded via foreign aid as int. thugs have to help to develop war hit areas. The reason Colombo and other cities are so populated is due to having more infrastructure and facilities. Same outcome is possible if same development starts. But we need go beyond having more 'visitors'. We need permanent residents.

2. Market economy
Buying land should be demand-supply based business. GSL should encourage buying land, building industries, farms via law interest rates and tax deals and also facilitating legal issues related to deeds etc. We need to deviate tamils from 'thesawalamei laws' and instead to follow money based transactions. This is apart from GSL sponsored programs.

2. Education
It must be taught that SL-entire SL belongs to all citizens and there are no separate regions-traditional, historical or otherwise, for a particular race. To educate elders GSL can subcontract earlier 'thawalama' or 'sudu naluma' guys ina tamil setting. Being against movement, residing, working of a person solely due to ethnicity is racism and we must pressurize TNA and so called tamil cirles, squares to condemn racism.

4. Cultural/language barriers
We should encourage and facilitate learning tamil. Need to attack some cultural concepts such as "nodanna demalete gihin warige naha gaththa wage" which demotivate even visiting tamil dominant areas. [Other such concepts we need to remove are "sinhalaya modaya kawum kanda yodaya", kanda beela wage"...]

5. GSL sponsored EI programs
This should be mass scale and should run parallel to 'private janapadhakaranaya'. This can even be funded via int. thugs who preach EI, peace, equality etc.

** Key point is this should be long term program and MR need to initiate and set the trend such a way no future possibly anti-nationalistic (i.e.UNP) rule can stop or reverse.

This is the ONLY PERMANENT SOLUTION to be undertaken as the MAIN COMPONENT of an ETHNIC INTEGRATION PROGRAM.

The Government should take the LEAD, and encourage private participation by individuals wishing to buy land and relocate. As you say, the Govt should offer low-interest loans for such relocation, but it should be tied to people actually moving to live there; Live-in homeowners should be given preference rather absentee landlords/investors!

[The reason Colombo and other cities are so populated is due to having more infrastructure and facilities. Same outcome is possible if same development starts. But we need go beyond having more 'visitors'. We need PERMANENT residents.]

Yes, Indeed. This will bring enormous benefits to ordinary people who currently cannot afford to live a decent life in the high-priced, congested Colombo area where the JOBS are.

Absolutely! Again, this is a COMPONENT of ETHNIC INTEGRATION.

......

Let me ADD that the Govt MUST TAKE THE LEAD in creating JOBS in these areas for the new settlers .. whether it is by promoting FARMING, manufacturing INDUSTRIES, or SERVICE BUSINESS establishments such as MEDICAL, EDUCATIONAL and COMMUNICATIONS centers. For example, to setup a communications center you need electricity and telephone/wireless connections.

After almost 30 years later the Nagadeepa Buddhist Vihara is open to the people. Nagadeepa is very special for Sri Lankan Buddhists as Lord Buddha visited this place around 2,500 years ago. The present large influx of pilgrims is historical. It symbolises the ending of racist demarcations imposed by the LTTE using terror and violence. It also symbolises people’s undying devotion and the determination to integrate. The fallacy of racial homelands is another manifestation. However, most pilgrims who are from less affluent sections of the society find it pretty bad in Jaffna where there are no decent facilities for outsiders. All such infrastructure got destroyed or neglected during the war.

Many of these pilgrims sleep on the stands of the Duraiappah Stadium. It is said that around 20 busloads of people get down at the Stadium every day. While they cook their own meals, the site seriously lacks basic facilities. Although the Jaffna Municipal Council does a good job in providing them with water, it’s hardly sufficient and the quality of water is not guaranteed. These pilgrims drink water without boiling and it poses a health risk not only to them but also to the resident population in Jaffna. To aggravate matters, they use paddy fields in Achchuveli as toilets.

The Palali army base has enough space for all of them to camp. It also has basic facilities. Using these facilities ensure hygienic conditions for all. Further, while it makes the pilgrimage more comfortable for the pilgrims, it also reduces the problems this large influx creates for Jaffna people. The Stadium and the paddy fields are certainly for different purposes.

As time goes by Jaffna will have commercial facilities at reasonable prices. Until then the government should ensure reasonable facilities for the good of everyone. Hopefully the Ministry of Defence will do the needful.

‘Sunday Leader’ reveals more on Fonseka

Following the in the aftermath of the controversial ‘white flag’ story, an English weekend newspaper has revealed that former Army Commander General (Retired) Sarath Fonseka who denied his connections with the Hicorp arms deal, has in fact served on the Board of the company as a Director following his retirement.

"Sunday Leader reveals more on Fonseka"

fonseka bashing now for POLITICAL reasons is not good.

fonseka is a tool for the govt against the MAIN COMPETITOR - FUN or UNF.

let the court martial case proceed and let only RW bash gonz now in the political front.

gonz knows sunday leader is RW's cat's paw. lovely!!

when the 2 main opposition parties fight each other there is only one winner.

like hamas and fatah fighting each other. what could be better! if shiite majority hezbullah fights sunni majority hamas, that would be the only thing better!!!

traditionally the second term of SL leaders has been disastrous.

e.g. sirima's 2nd term - 1970-77 - food shortages, ruining the national economy by experiments.

JRJ - 1983 riots, 1987 blunders, total disregard of public opinion.

CBK - PTOMS, untimely elections.

but in the case of MR there is a catch. IF he blunders, his brothers, son are going to get screwed IMMEDIATELY. if he is so affectionate of his family members, he MUST do well so that ppl will love his brothers/son.

this is like olden days of kings. if king saddhatissa had fcuked the ppl, his sons would not have become successful kings. if king datusena blunderred ppl would not have tolerated king kassyapa's BS.

MR's planning horizon (all SL politicos are by nature SHORT SIGHTED) is forced to be big and extends far beyond his term.

i think this is very good for SL. it stops short term irresponsible behavior.

stupid excessive borrowings from foreign sources will also stop.

The cabinet secretary, Sir Gus O'Donnell, was tonight under pressure to launch a formal investigation into Gordon Brown's treatment of his staff after an anti-bullying helpline revealed it has received several complaints from people working at No 10. It follows publication by the Observer journalist Andrew Rawnsley of hotly- disputed allegations about Brown mistreating staff, including assertions that he swore at staff, grabbed them by lapels and shouted at them.

Bugger! Do you chaps remember the time when this bloody fool Brown tried to bully our President to accept his special envoy (I can't recall that jobless clown's name) to Sri Lanka?. But Brown fellow tried it with the wrong man that time. In the end it was our Defense Secretary GR who bullied his messenger boy Milliband.

NGOs involved in anti-government activities will be banned, Sri Lanka Minister says

ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Feb 22, Colombo: Non Governmental Organizations involved in conspiracies against the government will be banned if they found to be guilty once the inquires are complete, Minister of Resettlement and Disaster Relief Services, Rishad Bathiudeen said today.

The Minister told media that the government had launched an investigation on some identified NGOs without naming any specific organization.

Sri Lanka Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama recently said that it is investigating the information that certain groups in the country receiving illegal funding from local and international non governmental organizations to destabilize the democratically elected government.

Minister Bogollagama had conveyed Sri Lanka's concern separately to the Australian special envoy to Sri Lanka John McCarthy and Ambassador of Sudan Khidir Haroun Ahmed when he met the diplomats recently.

Government officials have openly accused certain Western countries of funding defeated presidential candidate General Sarath Fonseka's campaign in an attempt to destabilize the government and the country.

UNF to go under elephant, JVP hangs on to Fonseka for Sri Lanka general elections

ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Feb 22, Colombo: Sri Lanka's main opposition alliance United National Front has decided to contest the upcoming parliamentary election under the elephant symbol as its main constituent United National Party was determined to contest under its own symbol.

The loose coalition that came into existence between the UNP and the Marxist party to support the common opposition candidate at the presidential elections has been fragmented.

The last minute talks the Marxist party Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna had with the UNF to come together to support the defeated presidential candidate General Sarath Fonseka have failed.

The detained General is meanwhile plans to contest the polls from Colombo District as the leader of the Democratic National Alliance (DNA), former JVP MP Vijitha Herath told media today.

Former Sri Lanka Freedom Party MP and deputy minister Arjuna Ranatunga also has combined forces with the DNA and will be contesting under the leadership of General Fonseka.

The UNF which includes the single-member parties of Mangala Samaraweera's SLFP-Mahajana wing and Mano Ganeshan's Democratic People's Front and Sri Lanka Muslim Congress led by Rauf Hakeem has finalized the seats for its candidates except for the Batticaloa and Nuwara Eliya districts, sources said. Those seats will be finalized in the coming days, the sources added.

Ethnic Cleansing by the LTTE being Slowly REVERSED!

.......
Expelled Muslims happy to be back in Jaffna

PK Balachandran
February 21, 2010

JAFFNA: The 100-odd Muslim families of the original 15,000, who had returned to live in Jaffna after being forced to leave the peninsula by the LTTE in 1990, are happy to be back in their old homes amidst the Tamils. They look at the LTTE era as an aberration.

“None of us wants to go back to south Sri Lanka,” declared S.M.Faiz, a bearded religious leader involved in the running of five mosques in the town.

“The Tigers are a bunch of uneducated fellows,” Faiz said, dismissing the LTTE as an atypical set among the generally cultured and educated Jaffna Tamil community.

“This is our soil and we have the right to return,” said Meherunnissa, a 34 year old mother who is living in a makeshift private camp for returnees in the Khadijah school for girls. She had been living here for the past seven years in abject poverty, but never regretted her decision to come back to Jaffna.

“When we were in Puttalam, the local people (mostly Sinhalese) used to look at us as unwanted outsiders, squatters on their land,” she explained.

Meherunnissa’s family had a house in Jaffna, as they were shop keepers. But this house is now in ruins, torn down by local Tamils wanting material to build their own houses. Almost all Muslim houses have been stripped to the foundation.

However, the Muslim returnees are not angry with the Tamils.

“The Tamils dutifully gave back our houses if they had occupied them during our 19 year absence. They are by nature a law abiding people,” Faiz said.

Sitting in his mosque near Osmania college ,Faiz and Moulavi Mohammad Bashir said that the Muslims had never had problems with the Tamils till the LTTE appeared on the scene.

“We are inseparable. When the Ilankai Tamilar Arasu Katchi (ITAK) headed by S.J.V.Chelvanayakam was contesting in Jaffna, the Muslims helped it win seats in the town for the first time. From then, till now, we have had no problems with the Tamil leaders other than the LTTE,” Bashir said.

LTTE eyed Muslim wealth

According to him, the Tigers ordered the Muslims to vacate Jaffna peninsula in 24 hours, because they wanted the Muslims’ gold and property. Jaffna Muslims were basically well heeled shop keepers and dominated the transport and hardware sector.

“When the rich Tamils left the island after the 1983 riots, the LTTE had no community in Jaffna to extort money from, other than the Muslims. That is why we were targeted,” Bashir explained.

Only a fraction return to settle

Muslims started to return to Jaffna from the refugee camp in Puttalam (north of Colombo) and other places about nine to 10 years ago. But only about 100 families of the originaly 15,000 families have chosen to move lock, stock and barrel so far. The fear of the LTTE had been rampant till May last year.

Even now, several months after the elimination of the LTTE, only 10 percent are in Jaffna, full time. The majority are merchants running dual homes. They travel between Jaffna and the south every week.

Yet to beckon richer Muslims

“The younger and richer Muslims who had left Jaffna in 1990, are reluctant to come back as they are settled in the South and like the new life there. But the poor like us would like to come back,” said Sania, another inmate of the Khadijah girls school camp.

The Muslims are entirely literate. But their standard of living is abysmally low.

“We had lost everything. Unless the government gives us soft loans to rebuild our houses and shops, we will not be able to rise above this level,” Sania said.

No one to advocate Muslim case

“Politicians come at election time, make promises and disappear. We have no clout to press our case,” added Meherunnisa.

The Muslim IDPs of Sri Lanka are indeed a voiceless and powerless people ,who, unlike the Tamil IDPs, have no advocates, whether in Sri Lanka or abroad.

Sivajilingam forms alliances ‘left’ and ‘right’

Adding another to the already existing alliances, former Parliamentarian from the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) M.K. Sivajilingam is to contest the upcoming General Elections through another alliance.

Mr. Sivajilingam says that he has signed a memorandum of understanding with Dr. Wickremabahu Karunaratne’s Nava Sama Samaja Party and would contest under the banner of the Left Liberation Front (LLF).

However, Mr. Sivajilingam has also formed another alliance named the Tamil National Liberation Alliance (TNLA) together with another TNA ex MP N. Sri Kanthan.

According to Mr. Sivajilingam, the TNLA will contest the North and East under its symbol of the umbrella.

M.K. Sivajilingam told Adaderana that the TNA did not really represent the Tamils of this country. They decided to form a separate alliance, the TNLA so as to find solutions to burning issues of the country.

Moshe;

[[one racist party for another!!!]]

Just what the doctor ordered. It is the grand formula of running into obsolescence.

Two things stand.

1. Although it looks absolutely savage these racist MFs and their supporters will not realize it overnight and support SL base parties next day. I am rather skeptical about quick Sri Lankan feelings in liberated areas.

2. If the cease to exists suddenly, the void does not align or force the public for Sri Lankan parties, rather it would make them totally alienated and disconnected from us. These racists are the only link that connects them to Sri Lanka's mainstream politics. Such alienation is the hatching ground for future terrorism.

So the racists still have a part to play. That is to gradually bring the public into Sri Lanka based politics. [Likewise RW had a role to play in the war times, in order to bring everyone to Mr's fold]

70-80 yrs ago, when most aristocrats were sudda boot lickers, the russian bootlickers brought some spirit to us. This is why independent SL almost voted a socialist govt in. Socialists are equal anti social loosers to the racists, but ppl loved them for the spirit they brought into our independence. Henceforth it became a virus derailing our nation for most of 50s and 60s, peaking at 70-77 torturing economy [which was run by socialists behind Sirirma saree].

Wonder what saved us from falling into their hands? The divisions among them. There had been a 1000 odd diff socilaist factions. They debated and broke apart, still pressing another hardline lunatic theory like the others. But in effect they lost the common public and pushed them towards the mainstream parties.

I am glad to see the same thing happening to racist tamil parties. More we have, lesser total support there will be. Yet the balance will not run stray, instead they'll take the racist faction for a negative example and move towards Sri Lankan politics.

That of course, if and only if, the govt polays right cards such as multi ethnic resettlement.

Funnily the MF calls mistakenly "mother India.." yeah yeah you're right, it is your mother indeed.

Wikarabahu is a bloody hell intelligent lunatic. He co-existed with teh tamil racist parties for 30 odd years following a tamil racist line, yet distinct from the tamil politics. He knew it as sure as anything, that had he joined them during pussycat times, it is a matter of time that pussycat bullet will follow him. And he waited all this long to finally make the alliance he wished all these years. And he himself is benefited with the war victory right now.

SL never wanted to be the HIGHEST VOLUME producer of tea. SL competed on BLACK TEA. prices are going up.

for some reason SL was also the highest volume producer at certain times. this is not good mgt practice. you CANNOT be the cost leader and the LEADING 'differentiator' at the same time.

this may explain why prices for SL tea is going up.

demographics of LOWER (but higher value) tea production favours SL politically TOO.

anyway in the long term, SL must overcome the prime good exporter mentality. exporting tea and importing milk, fruits, potatos, rice, etc, etc. does not make sense.

Hmz,

Looks like lots of white tarts are coming out of the woodwork, usually they appear around May and September when their human rights monkeys formally inform them of their espionage and which countries are following the Wests interests or not in Geneva (May/June) and New York (September).

First its Butenis, followed by Blake.

I believe this is due to their Gonseka connections and more revelations coming out (including his coup/Military style dictatorship he would have installed had he won/the results been close and the fact the US gave a green light to it all).

So to quickly put a dampener on this they start their sanctimonious preaching, essentially to try and drown out the humiliation and exposure that is happening to them.

Western media harking on about "Rajapakse dictator" and "end of democracy" is also linked to this. With Gonseka their tool of interference being arrested and the Wests bid to install this puppet dictator backfiring on multiple levels with, as mentioned more evidence of this coming into public domain they are hurling accusations against Rajapakse to drown these things out.
(The Times Article about Namal Rajapkse and the Australian monkeys taking pot shots at MR is case and point).

Its like when "Pakistani Taleban" were caught with Western aid, weapons, equipment and money which MI6 and CIA had provided (through "humanitarian NGOs" working in the Swat Valley) Western media was instructed to quickly release fairy tales of "corrupt Afghans gave it to them".

Miliband and Gordon Brown have also started making utterances but i believe with the former having meetings with the "Global Tamil Forum" this is more to do with up coming General Election in the UK than with the Gonseka initiative here. Labour party is in big trouble and needs as much support it can get, the good news with that failing Government and party in terms of economy, immigration policies, uncertainty with wars in Iraq/Afghan and good governance issues is that they are too worried about these internal problems which are causing growing disillusionment, animosity and frustration amongst the white population in the UK that they do not have the time to dabble openly in SL affairs as they did before, but we will see many donkey dances and courting to the Tamil die-ass-pora and the usual anti-SL anti-Sinhala statements being made in coming months.

"Israeli opposition leader Tzipi Livni has applauded the controversial killing of a Hamas commander in a Dubai hotel by suspected Israeli agents.

"The fact that a terrorist was killed, and it doesn't matter if it was in Dubai or Gaza, is good news to those fighting terrorism," she said.

It is thought to be the first time a top Israeli has made such a comment.

Mahmoud al-Mabhouh was found dead in his room on 20 January, having been electrocuted and suffocated.

His alleged killers used fake British, Irish, German and French passports, according to the authorities in Dubai, which released pictures of the suspects, none of whom were caught.

Mr Mabhouh was one of the founders of Hamas's military wing.

The Israeli secret service Mossad has been widely accused of carrying out the killing but Israel has repeatedly asserted there is no proof its agents were involved.

Mrs Livni, the former foreign minister who leads the parliamentary opposition for the Kadima party, did not indicate who was behind the killing.

"The entire world must support those fighting terrorism," she told a Jewish conference in Jerusalem.

"Any comparison between terrorism and those fighting it is immoral."

The current Israeli Foreign Minister, Avigdor Lieberman, responded to allegations of a Mossad plot last week by saying: "Israel never responds, never confirms and never denies."

Dubai security cameras picked up 18 members of what local police believe was a hit team.

Diplomatic tension between Western states and Israel has grown over the killing."

Chaps, a bunch of jokers from Brussels going by the pompous name International Crisis Group has put out a report on the state of terrorist network overseas. They claim it's based on lot of interviews with these terrorist bastards. The main points are:

1. Following the defeat of the LTTE, the mood in the diaspora has been a mix of anger, depression and denial.

2. Most Tamils abroad remain profoundly committed to Tamil Eelam, the existence of a separate state in Sri Lanka.

3. Few of them seem to have realized the truth. One terrorist says "“We tried satyagraha, we tried party politics, and we tried armed struggle. The sad truth is that they all failed."

There are few tidbits of information that might be useful to us in it. Be warned though, it has the regular claptrap about SL government having to come up with a 'political solution' to satisfy these plonkers. As if we need advice from bunch of jokers in Brussels on how to conduct our own affairs.

so for the past 20 years the US too gave us BULLSHIT 'solution'?????

2. The report added that ‘these countries will need to find a new way to communicate with a leader, and a country, in no mood to listen to countries that they believe provided bad advice over the past two decades.’

LOVELY!! at last someone got the ground realities in SL.

3. It said that although Fonseka has not accepted Rajapakse’s victory, ‘other observers who have no reason to favour Rajapakse have not confirmed any suggestion of massive fraud, and the results were consistent all over the country.’

accepting the democratic verdict is step number 1.

good report. i'm sure US will follow this as OBA-MA said his new approach is ENGAGEMENT than BULLYING.

New Tamil alliance in Sri Lanka says TNA betrayed Tamils

ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Feb 23, Colombo: Former Jaffna parliamentarian and independent presidential candidate M.K. Sivajilingam says the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) acted according to the wishes of the terrorist group LTTE and did not genuinely represent the aspirations of the Tamil people.

At a press conference held in Colombo on Monday to announce the creation of a breakaway faction of the TNA named Tamil National Liberation Alliance (TNLA) to contest the upcoming parliamentary elections, its co-founder, Sivajilingam accused the TNA of betraying the Tamils.

Sivajilingam and another TNA MP from Jaffna N. Sri Kantha declared yesterday that they have formed the new alliance to contest the general election in all districts in the Northern and Eastern Provinces under the Leftist Liberation Front of Dr. Wickramabahu Karunaratna.

The TNLA has been created in order to fulfill the objectives of the Tamil People, he said.

Dr. Wickramabahu Karunaratna described their alliance with the Tamil National Liberation Alliance as an instance of a union of the North and the South.

Sivajilingam said the TNA was controlled by three powerful former MPs R. Sampanthan, Suresh Premachandran and M. Senadirajah who acted according to LTTE wishes.

He accused the group including Sampanthan of deceiving other party members by lending support to General Sarath Fonseka at the presidential elections.

Sivajilingam said the TNA leadership is solely responsible for the death of thousands of Tamils brutally tortured and executed by the LTTE.

The TNA, which had 22 seats in the dissolved parliament, recently denied nominations to 9 of its members to contest the polls under the alliance. The TNA had also left out Sri Kantha and Sivajilingam from its nomination list.

The other members who were denied nominations include Jaffna district member Pathmini Sithamparanathan, are S. Kajendran, S.Jeyanandamurthy, Sivanathan Kishor, T. Kanagasabai and S. Sathasivam.

A six-week window for Lankan oppostion

By Sutirtho Patranobis,
Hindustan Times
February 23, 2010

Colombo: Time is running out for the beleaguered opposition in Sri Lanka as it readies for the April 8 general election. For all their promises of bringing in good governance, better economics and stamping out corruption, opposition parties now are now preparing to fight each other then putting up an united stand against the ruling United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA).

The opposition parties were an ideologically assorted but politically keen group as they rallied behind former army chief Sarath Fonseka – or rallied against incumbent Mahinda Rajapaksa – in the run-up to the Presidential election; less than a month later, they are all split up and no where to go.

The fissures are showing between the liberal and pro-west United National Party (UNP), the ultra-nationalist-Marxist, anti-India, Janatha Vimukti Peramuna (JVP), and the Tamil National Alliance, a succession battle tearing it apart in a post-LTTE era.

As of Tuesday, the UNP – the principal opposition party which seems to have realised the futility of aligning with lesser parties -- will fight the election on its own. Fonseka is aligned with the JVP and sacked and sulking TNA members have either switched to UPFA or are floating new entities.

The resounding defeat in the Presidential poll is one obvious reason for the coalition to have lost wind. (A petition alleging electoral malpractice has been filed in the Supreme Court to cancel the Presidential poll result). First the defeat and then its wide margin were not expected by the opposition and left them floundering for answers.

Another reason could be that after Fonseka’s arrest – arguably a case of a winner carrying out political vendetta – the protests failed to take off. Rallies were held, crowds clashed with the police, editorials were written -- ingredients for a street campaign were all there but the recipe for a country-wide opposition campaign remained incomplete. It almost gained wider acceptance when a section of the powerful clergy called for a convention in support. It was however postponed.

Six weeks are left before the election; for the opposition it could either be six weeks of opportunity or an eternity of neglect.

Well, largely due to Cato's urging, Carthage WAS ULTIMATELY DESTROYED by the Romans, and that existential threat to Rome was eliminated, PERMANENTLY.

Likewise, if we keep reminding all, the North & East WILL also be settled by people of ALL communities of Sri Lanka, eliminating that threat to Sri Lanka's existence, PERMANENTLY!

It is ineed the only PERMANENT SOLUTION .. but should be undertaken within the context of Ethnic Integration.

...............
A valuable insight into Sri Lanka's peace process

Irish Sun
February 23, 2010

The book, 'A Powderkeg in Paradise', is not a historical account of the Tamil separatist campaign that bled Sri Lanka for a quarter century before the military finally decimated the Tamil Tigers in May 2009. In nearly 250 crisp and easy to read pages, Jon Oskar Solnes delves into his rich and intimate knowledge of the conflict, gained as an official of the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM), to tell the world why and how the once seemingly indestructible Tamil Tigers lost it so badly.

On that score, the book is an invaluable story of the Norwegian-sponsored and internationally backed peace process that took the most dramatic twists and turns before collapsing amid bloodshed.

Unlike many Westerners, Jon does not hesitate to apportion most of the blame for the fracture of the Ceasefire Agreement (CFA) of 2002 on the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and its anarchist leader Velupillai Prabhakaran. This is the result of the intimate opportunities he got to study the LTTE closely on behalf of the SLMM, the Nordic body whose mandate was to oversee the truce. But he shows no bias for Colombo. He details the vanity of different interlocutors, the many terrible incidents that derailed peace, and 'the appalling and often cynical lack of concern for civilian casualties on both sides of the (ethnic) divide'.

Yet, it is Prabhakaran whom he calls 'a very difficult interlocutor in (the) quest for peace'. Referring to the resumption of hostilities after Mahinda Rajapaksa became president in November 2005, the author is clear that 'the return to more heavy-handed search operations was to a large extent sparked by and was a consequence of the tactics of the LTTE'. These included the killings of senior Sri Lankan military and civilian figures, including Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar, 'which made the peace facilitation of Norway even more difficult'.

International actors seeking to end the conflict became frustrated because the LTTE 'basically wanted administrative powers for the whole of the north and the east to be handed over to them on a silver plate and without significant limitations'. This was akin to asking for Tamil Eelam from Colombo!

In the process, the LTTE came to be seen as 'a fundamentalist organization lacking the will of problem-solving through compromise, led by a deeply reclusive autocratic leader'.

Ananda-USA said...

A valuable insight into Sri Lanka's peace process

.....continued....
Like everyone, Jon says the LTTE hugely blundered by cutting off irrigation water supply at Mawil Aaru in the eastern province, starving the farms of thousands of mainly Sinhalese farmers. The military grabbed the opportunity to launch a punishing offensive - led by army chief Sarath Fonseka, 'a very determined and gifted military man' - that led, first, to the loss of the east and, later, the whole of the north, burying one of the world's most ruthless insurgent groups. Prabhakaran 'bore a large responsibility for the suffering of thousands of Tamil civilians who were being killed and maimed in the fighting'.

Jon makes only passing references to India, which played an overt and covert - as well as controversial -- role in Sri Lanka right through the blood-soaked conflict. He strangely remarks that the 'LTTE was not well understood by the outside world'. I disagree. Both in and outside of Sri Lanka, many have always known what the LTTE stood for. The author feels that Colombo should 'invite international human rights commissions and monitors to bring Sri Lanka back into the fold of civilized democracies'.

Jon may be well meaning but it is such recurring homilies that pushed Colombo to reject the CFA and the SLMM. And it is this western worldview that led countries as diverse as India, Pakistan, Cuba and China to back Sri Lanka when it came under western attack on the human rights issue. Ultimately, no outside power can mould Sri Lanka; only its people can do that. If there is a will, there has to be a way.

Re: Battle for the 40%

JVP union with Fonseka is meant to shift the fringe districts into a certainty. Following is my idea on this. The numbers are my guesses after analyzing teh situ, and may vary by big margins.

JVP, contested alone stand a chance for 3-6 seats [plus 1-2 national list entries]. That includes a seat each from Col, Gampaha and H'tota which is almost certain and each from Kalutara, Galle and Matara which is not so certain. Due to teh sizes of teh districts and their support bases they can expect some bulks of votes from districts A'pura, K'gala and Kandy, yet the amount will not be enough to win a seat, unless a distant luck strikes [where every other party happen to have a lower remainder]. So we can exclude their chances in those districts if teh contest alone.

By joining with SF they can expect to gain in following ways.

- Push the 1 seat of Col/Gampaha to 2 seats

- Push the uncertainties of Galle, Kalutara, and Matara into a certain 1 seat [Ex: they may have ~50k vote base in each, where SF can push it to 70k]

- Push the not enough but significant districts A'pura, K'gala and Kandy to a possible winning position.

If above plans work out they stand a chance of gaining by 5 more, and perhaps another seat [not certianty] in national list. And from SF side only SF and Arjuna has some support base to win enough pref votes [SF may end up in jail too], and their may be that one national list seat they would ask for. So there is a total gain.

This is why Jeppas are using SF for their survival. SF who'd have a great future in traitor equals UNP is losing it for his ego, yet SF will never understand these, which I don't wanna waste time on.

If Jeppas can reach the max predicted number of 11 seats they can cal it a victory. If they still loose to oblivion they can satsfy themselves [including blind cadres] taht they never intended seats but wanted to support SF campaign, hence they sacrificed the bell sign and inevitably lost it.

Difference between JVP and UNP is, prior has nothin in bank but srewd to max [hence living on other's payroll] whole teh latter is rich to the teeth [as far as the 40% is concerned], yet empty in skull.

Sujeewa Kokawala said...

I shud add one thing to my prev analysis of DNA. I suspected that JVP/UNP will convert SF into a mandela/Syu ki. They tried but again proved their incapability.

I do not agree that it was impossible. SF had crimes in his hand, yet it was a possibility for them to make him a victim and a hero. But they just showed that they do not have such loyalty to SF. Instead they showed that they would fight for the last pound of SF meat [politically speaking not literally] and do it in the crow's fashion.

UNP came out of it and they had nothing to worry. Looser is DNA and biggest looser is SF. Even his arrest was not converted into proper political advantage. MR shud be happy to have such clowns in opposition.

I still think it was stupid to arrest him and it was supposed to be disadvantagedfor UPFA, yet it was not. So Moshe this is the answer to your Q.

If govt has brains they shud keep SF case at slow pace, and not change any parameters until the GE is over. Currently ground is at their advantage.

SK,

The "free Gonseka" thing did not work because no one gives a damn.

They tried, but their lame attempts at their kind of "nationalism" earned even more disdain than any negative which may have been generated towards MR for the arrest.
It was a simple "where were you before"? And: "did you not want the Army destroyed, Gonseka dead or in a white mans kangaroo court"?

The people do not believe their stunts and more importantly are furious with how they go around spitting on the country. The whole "free gonseka" show was not even meant for us but for their foreign masters. A giant stage managed event to make it look like MR is unpopular, when in reality he is not. The fact the West is spearheading this campaign and they are acting as the local agents out of selfishness, greed, jealousy and their own arrogance based incompetence all of which is only earning them more hatred from the masses. Of course they natural will spit on the country once more and attack the "Mahinda junta" as the reasoning for their political failures ("junta dictatorship" and "lack of democracy/freedom" crap they and their masters have said).
End result: more anger generated for trying to DENY and camouflage the will of the people and nation which will translate into less political power and people support.

Fonseka's illegal money is one story that is surprisingly missing much discussion in SL news media.

Here is another story that didn't get enough attention at all.

Hiranthe said...

Dear Patriots, Look at this...

"A group of representatives from some international organizations are in Sri Lanka to monitor General Sarath Fonseka’s arrest and his legal proceedings, Mrs. Anoma Fonseka told Daily Mirror online.

According to Mrs. Fonseka she has invited at least six organizations including human rights groups to send their representatives to Sri Lanka to monitor the developments following the arrest of her husband by the Military.

She said that two representatives from these organizations were already in Sri Lanka and had attended the Supreme Court hearing yesterday into the fundamental rights petition filed by her husband.

Meanwhile Mrs. Fonseka is to meet several political party representatives today to discuss the upcoming General Elections. She also said that she has been advised by her husband not to enter politics. (Daily Mirror online)"

What is the right this woman has to invite foreign inspectors to SL?... We have never seen this type of action by anyone before.... She is becoming more aggressive and trying to become another CBK despite Gonseka insisting her not to enter into politics.

She is so charged up... I strongly feel that she gets the push and the backing from some powerful individual.... probably US Ambassador woman.....

The Gonseka’s are becoming pests and parasites of our nation.... When Gonseka bags only less than 25,000 votes from Colombo they will realise that they were living in a dream...

The new silk road

News that China is pressing ahead with the construction of yet another port in the Indian Ocean – this time in Sri Lanka – has led to alarm in India that the strategic ‘string of pearls’ China is building along the lucrative trade routes from Africa to Asia could become an expensive choker on the Indian economy. But India is not taking the move lying down.

While China moves to take advantage of the shipping lanes between the Middle East and China, India is charging ahead with a partnership with Japan to build a freight corridor that will link Mumbai to Delhi to Kolkata with tributary rail links to industrial cities skirting the borders of Pakistan and Nepal. In simple terms, India and Japan are building a new ‘silk road’ which will eventually generate lucrative returns.

India is focusing on its greatest advantage over China in terms of trade, its geographical position, to develop a network that will thread the products made in industrial cities across the northern half of the country through to ports on its west and east coasts and on to markets in Europe, China, the rest of Asia and the Pacific. The corridor will also provide a safer and faster way of transporting oil and commodities from the Middle East and Africa, across the country, to ports in the India Ocean.

The freight link is expected to provide a superior trade route to that of China’s ‘string of pearls’ – its new ports in Chittigong in Bangladesh, Gwadar, Pakistan and Sittwe, Burma, and Hambantota – and one that is not exposed to piracy.

The India partnership is equally important for Japan, which along with Korea was previously the port-maker of choice for many nations around the world, and in recent years has seen its position as the key trading partner to a large number of nations supplanted by China. The freight link is part of the Japanese government’s plan to drastically bump up its annual investment in India to nearly $6 billion by 2011 – a considerable increase on 2006 when Japan invested a little over $500 million in the second fastest-growing economy in the world.

The project is the first of many expected under the ‘Strategic and Global Partnership’ established between Japan and India in 2006 that seeks to promote the shared democratic values of the Indian and Japanese governments – specifically at the expense of China.

The dedicated freight corridor, on which construction started in January last year, will span a total length of about 3200 km and has been designed to relieve India’s already-bursting-at-the-seems rail network commonly referred to as the ‘Golden Quadrilateral’. Running alongside the freight corridor will be a series of industrial parks dedicated to particular industries, new ports and airports.

Moshe Dyan said...

new silk road. contd.

Japan has agreed to provide a $4 billion loan to cover two thirds of the western arm’s construction cost with the Indian government picking up the rest of the tab. The Asian Development Bank and the World Bank along with Indian agencies will fund the eastern corridor. In early February, the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation (DFCC) said it was close to announcing the $1.8 billion of funding from the World Bank. The government is also seeking a further $500-$600 million from the World Bank.

For the burgeoning economic super power, the dedicated freight corridor comes at a significant time. With free trade agreements already signed between India and Japan and between India and ASEAN nations and two further agreements in the works, this time with Australia and New Zealand, ensuring Indian products can get to market more quickly and cheaply than the goods of their economic rivals China is essential. India will also be able take advantage of Japan’s bilateral trade agreements with other nations to use Japan as a conduit market for its products.

It’s not just a one-way relationship. According to analysts, the easier flow of products from industrial towns in the landlocked parts of India to ports will also allow Japan to increase its business presence in India.

But both countries have some way to go in developing their relationship to the stage where they begin to see the fruits of their labour. According to a report from Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations, while two-way trade between India and Japan rose to $10 billion in 2007/08, the value of trade has a very long way to go to match China-Japan trade ($237 billion) and India-China trade ($38 billion).

And the project has not been without its problems. Cost blow-out and delays due to land acquisition problems have plagued the project. However, the Indian government has been quick to realign the corridor to reduce these problems and Japan’s interest in the project is undiminished.

With exports from India to Japan touching $3.85 billion in 2007/08 and Japan’s exports to India jumping to $6.32 billion in the same period, the freight corridor and its associated industrial parks promise to be a trade super highway to prevent them being overshadowed by a dominant China.

Moshe Dyan said...

my comment.

the indian freight link will not to be superior to the chinese string of pearls for the simple reason that its internal, not international. the chinese project has a strong international focus whereas the indian freight link caters only to transport requirements within india.

asia's largest shipping route does not touch india. it travels around 600 km away from india. china is eyeing this. it is not cost efficient for ships in this route to change the route to reach india.

on the other hand the indian internal freight link will further add value to the string of pearls. the major shipping channel (string of pearls ports) will interact with the indian freight link benefiting both. this will lead to the development of a new feeder system between ports of the "string" and the indian link.

it is not a correct assumption that the indian internal freight link will be immune to piracy. it will be a major target of subversives already active in 15 out of 29 indian states. a small attack on the rail link can jeopardize the whole east-west link bringing it to a standstill. attacks on indian rail assets have been common in the eastern part of india.

however, this new strategy may be a replacement for the much hyped sethusamudram project.

it may also be the result of apprehension of india's inability to match china's maritime domination in seas south of india.

Milliband has driven the last nail into Ranil Wickremesinghe’s coffin. Three cheers for that!"

MD,

Good find mate... I really appreciate how widely you keep your eyes open in the interest of our motherland to capture these developments.

This rail line has to go through China anyway.. Will they be paying Chinese govt some kind of taxes for crossing their land..?

On the other hand, China can also benefit by trading with India and vice-versa...

In any case, we are away from this and let India face the music from their own Terrorists... The Good news this gives is, it looks like they have dropped the Setu Samudra project... Thanks mainly for Dr, Swami who opposed it outright... I can not remember if Sri Lanka has objected to it....during that time we were busy with the Sun Goat.. We should object it strongly in case if they talk about it again... TN leaders are dreaming for this project to take place but they are afraid of Hidu fundamentalists...

Thanks to King Ravana if at all the story was true. Otherwise it would have been done many years ago.

MR's policy to go with China is 1000 times better than going with India for any matter. India is unpredictable and they always think about their interests and their own end benefits... But China seems to be looking for Give and Take type relationship.

By the way as PS indicated, Milliband has done it for MR this time too... Welcome sign for 2/3rd majority.. ha ha

hiranthe,

"The Good news this gives is, it looks like they have dropped the Setu Samudra project..."

mate, i don't know how dropping the sethu project can benefit SL. SL NEVER formally protested the sethu project.

IMHO, sethu project is VERY GOOD for SL. we discussed this b4. just to recap.

1. the BIGGEST security problem SL ALWAYS faced is illegal kallathonis coming to SL.

they cross the easy mannar strait and land in SL. this still happens.

if sethu project comes up that can stoop this totally.

after sethu projects comes up fisheries resources in mannr to VVT goes for a six. no fish ----> no fishing boats in the are.

that means IF ANY boat is there it is doing something illegal. these can be handled easily.

also indian navy will be patrolling the straight. larger patrol crafts, warships will run when the canal is dredged. SLN too can easily patrol. all this means no chance for kallathonis to colonize SL.

2. another connected big problem is SL fishermen interacting with TN fishermen. weapons, fuel, drugs, etc. are passed on. this will stop when there is no fish in the manner-VVT stretch. in the east coast it is easily manageable.

3. illegal trading in VVT was very rampant in the 1970s. it stopped thanks to the war. it will start anytime soon. this was the primary channel LTTE exploited. i can't see any other way to stop it than sethu project.

4. fishing in the north made a certain sect in the tamil community rich and powerful until 1980s. vezapillai's initial clan were all ACTUALLY fishing related buggers. (although vallalla racists reject this fact for OWN BENEFIT as it happens always). there is a reason. mannar, VVT and jaffna lagoon are massive fishing banks. easy and shorter distance fishing means huge cost savings. once these 3 are destroyed from the sethu project (dredging, chemicals, oil, ship movement) these jokers will not have a clout. the apeal of tamil elam will also come down from within.

5. MOST SLs never benefitted from these fishing banks and they will be totally unaffected by sethu.

6. jaffna/karainagar port will become an international port with HUGE economic benefits. this follows the proper channels and benefits all. SL can get directly unvolved in shipping activities with india. the 'silk road' project does not offer us anything.

Patriots, what do you think of the response of the GOSL re. Brown and Milliband giving legitimacy to the LTTE whores today?

These corrupt white gooks are after "tamil votes" in the forthcoming elections in Britain and they had no qualms about throwing Sri Lanka to the wolves in that quest.

I was totally disappointed with the GOSL's "protest" that Bogols did. That was a sham.

The right thing to do would have been to embarrass the gooks by tabling a protest at the UNO, perhaps even asking for a hearing at the UN Security Council.

After all, it is no secret that the GTF is all made up of LTTE whores and the protest by Sri Lanka should have been along the lines of "British govt extends recognitions and support for Sri Lanka's terrorists"...

From my experience, there is nothing that hurts these "holier than thou" white gooks than a well measured public embarrassment.

Today Britain's aid to SL is virtually zipo and Britain took a strong anti-SL stand in asking that our GSP+ be removed by the EU...so, in my view, them gooks have no leverage over us today.

As such, I think it is time the GOSL up the ante and took a more vociferous and counter-measure posture against Britain for supporting Sri Lanka's LTTE terrorists. Sri Lanka’s cry to the world should be this support is totally counterproductive to Sri Lanka’s efforts to achieve ethnic national reconciliation and post-war rebuilding of the nation.

This Parrot Pakis bugger defecating all over the blogs bad mouthing our people and praising white people reminds me of an occasional waiter I had come across in our hotels. Chaps, you know the type, poor fellows who seem to be awestruck by a white person. On couple such occasions I had taken some American or European friends for dinner and paid for everybody myself. But the waiter assumed 'Sudhas' are the ones paying. So the poor bugger would almost worship them and provide poor service to the local chap who would actually tip him in the end. Parrot bugger's inferiority complex is a good case study for sociologists.

Patriots,

What are your thoughts on recent mumblings by Blake the Ape and Milband the Donkey? Is this a coordinated effort by western diplomatic apes to destabilize Sri Lanka? That Washington based International crisis Group BS report seems to be coordinated too. The more these despicable bastards scream the popular the current government gets. That is for the reason the common Sri Lankan believes that these apes are up to no good. In any case, timing seems well coordinated.

KB said...

Sam, old boy, it quite apparent that Milliband fool is fornicating with GTF terrorists hoping to get the Tamil vote for Labor in upcoming elections. We should file a case against him in a local court and get them to issue an injunction prohibiting him ever visiting Sri Lanka, basically declare him 'Persona non grata'.

Blake's motivation is little more difficult to understand. It may be just ego, hating that brown people continue to ignore him and his 'advice'. I think in his case best is to ignore him totally.

Cheers!

Why is "colonization education" like sex education?

If you don't do the education, people will do it the wrong way!!!

So, the govt. should come forward and "educate" the people on how to properly do colonization.

For eg:
Go to NE, chase away some people living there and start living there - WRONG

Buy some land, start a business/farm and start living there. - RIGHT

Respect local customs - RIGHT

So, it's very important that govt. come forward and do this education.

If you know the psychology of sex education, you'll know what I am talking about. :)

Moshe,

On Sethu Samudra issue….I am with you... I didn’t know all these plus points.

What I thought was, if this strip is opened to larger ships, we may lose our control in the area and more large scale smuggling might take place. And the other thing I thought was Jaffna and KKS will look more independent and the North will not look forward to merge with Trinco for a larger harbour and opt for separation on it’s own as a starting point. Remember it was the Vellala’s of Jaffna who first wanted this separate “Nadu” for Tamils even before the so called “Sinhala only” discrimination….. Now they are totally dependant on supplies from CMB… I like it to be that way…. A9 to be the most important supply route to them… We should not let them off the hook…

The larger ships going passing our entire west coast will make us to be more alert on the smugglers.. and Kallathonies…

Your point on larger Navy patrolling by SL and also Indian Navies is a big plus point for the project. Also no fishing activities means only guys with bad motives are in the sea to be captured…Good in a way…

What ever said and done…we must go ahead with the settling of other communities in the North and East to eliminate this problem for ever….If the Colombian Tamils oppose we can ask them to leave the Colombo properties and businesses to Sinhalas and others and leave for North or East…

We need a foul mouth guy like Gonseka to tell this openly at the time of any criticism, like he called TN leader as a bunch of Jokers.. and also that this country belongs to Sinhalese… But down the line he changed the melody and danced to US and Norway tune….

Asithri said...

Patriots, bear with me...but I would humbly and dearly like you to hear me out when I state the,

OaOA Doctrine:

1) If the end justifies the means, then JUST DO IT! No ifs & buts, but just do it! The end "good" should justify some "bad" that may encroach en-route to that good; nothing else matters.

2) When it comes to anti-SL elements, counter attack with all you got - i.e. "take no prisoner" and assure that "scorched earth" is what you leave to the enemy

3) "By Way of Deception" - well of course! - if it means helping Motherlanka!!! ( and not corrupt politicians of ANY hue!!!)

4) Counter attack - at least with 3 times more ferocity than what your enemy did; be scathing, unforgiving, uncompromising when you attack

5) Never become a "softy" when dealing with the LTTE terrorists and their cohorts - meaning these vile terrorists and their cohorts will NOT let their guard down and as such need to be culled mercilessly (unless they join the democratic stream with not only word, but action!)

6) Always have a highly suspicious mind...many LTTE whores are coming back "recycled" get under the wire and do harm to Motherlanka

7) Never let your own individual/personal likes/dislikes get in the way of dishing it out in GRAND STYLE to the LTTE whores; when it comes to Motherlanka, no individual/personal emotion is worth a squat in my view.

There you have it. Many people have asked me "what drives you" and what I have told verbally, here it is!

Very true Asithri.

However this Government is pathetic at media relations and PR, worse they do not take anything seriously until shit hits the fan and plenty of damage is done –clearly they just do not get it, they do not understand the machinations of the West fully and still in my opinion are blinding by their own propaganda of “Tamils lying to the West” with the foolish notion that “innocent” suddha is being conned by Tamilia. Earlier I outlined possible avenues on how to ensure good PR in South East Asia, Africa, and South America. There is no point continually grovelling at the West in the media war, which seems to be the current focus of this Government and they are not doing a good job of it, furthermore the West could not care less, their interests are the key and they will go about it using whatever tool (Tamilia, Gonseka) until it is done.

Another big issues is the Government is taking for granted friendly relations it already has with South East Asian countries as a given. They are not working enough to ensure that relations with these countries will be solidified, thus far the “diplomatic” relations are very thin and flimsy and sadly the Government things that is enough.

Anonymous said...

Asithri, Sam,

With regards to embarrassment and humiliation a similar thing has happened with Gonseka.

Despite the screams of denial "we did not fund Gonseka" the seizures of Gonsekas accounts stuffed with money straight from the US has sent a rude shock of humiliation.

This is why Blake snake suddenly slithered out of his hole to give a BBC interview.

Along with Butenis dictating terms to the Government on what can or cannot be believed and trying to silence Media reporting because it is "anti-American". So much so for media freedom.

The "return" of Blake back to lecturing the natives once again, this time about "respecting law and prisoner rights" is linked to Gonseka as he probably fears that his/US involvement will come out even more.

The Butenis and Blake duo's work & speeches is a pre-emptive strike to dampen any of the findings/evidence we may uncover.

In a similar manner as they tried during the war to discreet our victory, they are trying to portray Gonseka's arrest as "illegal" to discredit any humiliation as well as any statements and evidence we may release that will be acquired from Gonseka.

Whats happening in Britain (loud mouth anti-Lankanism unlike the earlier covert nature of it) is probably not directly linked to Blake and Butenis recent activity, and indeed more to do with the elections there. However this GTF meeting may have had in mind a Gonseka victory in which cause Blake may have been loosely involved.

As a government these guys are doing it lightly now because the opposition is using the bashing of West by GOSL as damaging to the Country’s image internationally.

This Milliband bastard hits that they have supported the suspension of the GSP+ benefit since they are against the government of SL.

To attack the US for giving fresh notes to Gonz is a must. But we need someone else to do that instead of GOSL…I think we will have to form an organisations or a front similar to TNA for LieTTE those days to talk to the world on behalf of the GOSL in bad language…. Without reservations…to counter attack these propaganda….DJ has been good in the past doing it but I lost trust on him…

Or else we should use SPUR or similar association already in operation to do this type of work……

This is open to debate Patriots…… The need of the hour although late……

Do you know that most opposition supporters truly believe in the Jilmart story. And they think that they hold the majority public support. It is a great weak point of theirs. More than once this opposition gave winner's speeches before the contest.

It is funny. And stupid.

”To attack the US for giving fresh notes to Gonz is a must. But we need someone else to do that instead of GOSL”

That is why we need a good media. Unfortunately our retarded media is either completely worshipping the West or sits with its mouth open waiting for the Government to respond. When allegations from the West are made, it is the medias bloody job to respond to them, not act as the messenger. But we all know how most of our media is made up of poorly educated, poorly trained, incompetent money hungry buffoons.
One approach is to buy up media personal, invest in NGOs/”think tanks” anywhere and everywhere, akin to the way the West attacks countries and “gets the message across” (as well as gathering information and fermenting dissent and hate) through media and NGOs (in our case they had bonuses such as Tamilia and Gonseka) when they cannot do it directly and give the illusion they are “acting independently” are “neutral” and “innocent” in the whole thing, albeit today more and more people in the world are better aware of this subterfuge.

We need what appears as an independent body to be our attack dog.

It is easier to buy up media, politicians, NGOs and invest in other organisations in South East Asia now, they are cheaper and would be more amicable to us as our plight and suffering is similar and this region will be growing in significance. Need to dig deep, penetrate right down to the grass roots levels and all political spectrums in these nations to ensure our interests are met. This is must for the future.

There are some, mainly Colombians, who know they lost fair and square but are in denial about it. Their egos will not let them accept the results, or the will of the nation. It is why they scream “no freedom”, to them “freedom” means getting their way, achieving their selfish desires and crushing others and the nation itself. Colombians are so angry they lost and the masses do not follow their “higher” values nor acknowledge their importance that they spread these fairy tales willingly. To them anything is better than Mahinda, even the LTTE (after all they were not really that affected by the LTTE).

LTTE defeat could lead to bombings in Canada - reportFebruary 25, 2010 09:40 am
Tamil supporters protest in front of the U.S. Consulate in Toronto, May 18, 2009.

Canadian security officials are concerned that last year’s defeat of Sri Lanka’s Tamil Tiger rebels could trigger attacks like the 1985 Air Indiabombings, says a new report. The International Crisis Group study quotes unnamed Canadian law enforcement officials saying that supporters of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam might resort to terrorism.

“While there are no signals yet that the rump LTTE is planning a terrorist act, it only takes a handful of committed cadre in the diaspora bent on violence to have a deadly impact,” the report says.

“For example, Canadian law enforcement officials have been concerned that, if left unchecked, LTTE activities could result in an event similar to the terrorist bombing of an Air India jet in 1985, which was planned and funded by Sikh separatists in Canada.”

Canadian Tamil Congress spokesman David Poopalapillai called that “pure speculation” and said that “we as Canadian Tamils and we as Canadian Tamil Congress are opposed to any form of violence, not only in Canada, anywhere, any part of the world.”

Based in Brussels, the ICG is one of the world’s leading think tanks. Its President and CEO is Louise Arbour, the former Supreme Court of Canada justice, and former United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan is a board member. It is funded partly by the Canadian government.

The report examines the state of the Tamil diaspora almost a year after the end of the brutal Sri Lankan civil war, which routed the Tamil Tigers rebels who had been fighting for independence.
Canadahas the world’s largest Tamil diaspora and was a major Tiger fundraising base. Several Canadians were also involved in procuring arms for the rebels.

The report says the defeat of the rebels has left the diaspora feeling “powerless, betrayed by the West, demanding justice and, in some cases, wanting revenge.”

An unnamed Canadian security official was quoted in the report saying that, “Because of what we learned from Canada’s connection with Khalistan we’re compelled to look at issues concerning the Tamil Tigers here differently.....

Now I know why West was against of defeting the LTTE in Sri Lanka

Pols,

I quite agree... Do you mean a print media?

Already a media like "Asian Tribune" is doing a bit of exposure. In the “Gonz affair” AT did the initial breakthrough as a media. But does the world take them seriously?

Sri Lankan electronic media including Rupavahihi is using AT articles to ridicule Gonz's acts... They do not do anything themselves as you pointed out. Divaina and The Island Editors are doing okay but it is not having enough weight…

My point is, we need an association / organisation to issue statements to all the media giants including CNA, BBC, Al Jazeera and so on reporting every fart…..

However, you have a point here…These media guys will not simply take up our stories / statements to the public unless we buy some of their operatives similar to LieTTE buying BBC / Reuter’s reporters…Do you mean that type of media buying?

Thing is media like AT do not have much world exposure. Its unfortunate but Western media holds the monopoly on world media and people around the world are subjected to their points of view. If someone indifferent about SL, say in South America, wants to learn about SL (or what he see about SL) is what the West tells him since they are the only ones with "world coverage". Our local media do not hold the same "clout".

Its just another tool of control on public and Governmental perception and it is one way they get countries to side with them at world forums or against other nations.

[[Other tools include NGOs (working within and out) to give the "moral" factor i.e. you are a lesser nation if you are not in the Wests good books.
The most potent of all was the economic weapon which has only started to dip with rise of China and other countries coupled with the poor economic growth in the West over the last 10-15 years, culminating with the recession of 08/09.]]

Government must create its own world media. This is a long term project and must appear independent, should help a channel like say AdaDerana go global -but not just yap about SL, it needs to cover issues in the countries they are broadcasting in, establish credibility, then they can be an effective tool to humiliate the West akin to the way CNN, BBC work etc.

Or

Invest in media, NGOs, journalists (need to pamper them good, toss in a few free holidays in SL too) so we have a stake in their futures (salary wise).

But not stop their, set up a "Sri Lanka Friendship Forum" use it as a lobby tool to buy politician, fund political campaigns, as well grass roots organisations in various countries.

These are all long term things that must be done.

MR Government is blissfully not bothered about world perception and that is a terrible thing. Government to Government& diplomatic relations (with current friendly nations) is not enough.

PolS,

Good Stuff....I do certainly agree... We need to give a serious thought on this...

Hope everyone in the Forum will give sufficient thought to this....

By the way, where are the monks from the Malwatta and Asgiriya chapters? Are they going to respond to Britain and maybe hold a convention?

Hiranthe,

In Australia one of the top broadcasting agents has the daughter of an LTTE "brigadier" on the board of directors. In most of their media there is heavy investment from Tamil businesses and lots of top honchos are Tamils.

Same with the BBC, couple of the medium level Administrative chappies are Tamils.

CNN has a Tamil "consultant".

Normally such "conflicts of interest" would result in removals or careful scrutiny (for BBC and CNN) as is what happens with Arabs, but interests with regard to SL coincide so it’s a lovely arrangement.

With Gonseka contesting against Ranil in the Colombo district not only will we see how "strong" (weak) Gonseka is but this can be used for the nations advantage.

Already SundayMudSlinger the religious cult calling itself a newspaper is attacking Gonseka, naturally in favour of Ranil since both perform in symbiosis.

Not only can this be used to have them sling mud at each other and get secrets out potentially lowering their vote bases, we can have Gonseka convicted for murdering Lasantha and SundayLeader acknowledge it.

One thing to note which is pretty funny: All the screeches about Lasanthas death including Sunday rag have suddenly gone quiet about it after Gonseka was positively linked to it. We can use this "silence" and lack of interest (once convicted) against the group of tarts who harp on about media freedom and as Asithri said, humiliate and expose them -tie it up to Butenis trying to muzzle SL media, and how it was all just crap to attack SL with. Then explain how our retarded media is so free it publishes fiction. Can also toss in West funding Gonseka as well as backing Gonzy’s coup attempt.

We can have a super whack at them and there would be very little they can do about it.

Its only fair the nation gets to capitalise on that scums death (after all his own family did it).
