Arrested! Fonseka's Follies Finally Earn Him Legal Retribution

No Sri Lankan Patriot wanted it to come to this, but Gen. Sarath Fonseka had not learned this basic principle of survival: When immersed nose deep in mud, the wise keep their mouths closed!

Gen. Fonseka will have the time to ponder this truism, as he contemplates the errors of judgment that led to his precipitous fall from grace from being, perhaps, the third most admired man in Sri Lanka to one of the most vilified, in a brief period of nine months. World history abounds with such instances of foolish men of unbounded ambition destroying themselves when they loosen their grasp on honor, duty and patriotism.

Colombopage had this to say today (February 08, 2010) about Gen. Fonseka's arrest:

General Fonseka has been arrested on charges of committing military offenses during his time in the Army," the newly appointed military spokesman Major General Prasad Samarasinghe said in an official statement to the Government Media Unit. He did not elaborate on the specific offenses.

Director General of the Media Centre for National Security, Lakshman Hulugalle, said Fonseka would face charges in a military court of conspiracy against the government.

.....

The government has accused General Fonseka of plotting to assassinate the President and overthrow the government by a coup. The government has arrested over 50 of his loyal retired military officers on planning the coup. General Fonseka denies all government's accusations against him.

However, a BBC report said earlier in the day the General had threatened to divulge the military secrets in response to alleged war crimes against the Sri Lankan military during the final phase of the war against the LTTE.

.....

Early in his presidential campaign in an interview to a Sunday weekly, the opposition candidate accused the Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa of ordering the Army's 58 Division leader to kill the senior LTTE cadres who were attempting to surrender with white flags.

He later retracted the statement saying the paper misquoted him but the government and the media said the retired commander betrayed the nations and the damage to the country and the military had been done by the General's statement for political gain.

According to The Asian Tribune the main charges, read out to Gen. Fonseka at the time of his arrest, were

• Politicking whilst in uniform,

• Conspiring against the Commander-in-Chief whilst in Service,

• Harboring more than 1,500 deserters whilst on Service,

• And, corrupt practices in relating to military procurements.

We trust that the Government has all of the necessary evidence to support these charges, and that they will promptly release him if the evidence available cannot stand up to legal scrutiny. However, what we know of Gen. Fonseka's activities to date since the end of the Eelam War in May, 2009, as reported in the press and elsewhere, leads us to believe that Gen. Fonseka will be convicted in a court of law, and will spend a significant portion of his life behind bars.

We take no joy in the downfall of one we considered a war-hero, but we firmly believe that those who betray their country by deed and word for ANY REASON WHATSOEVER, must be held ACCOUNTABLE, if only to serve as an example to deter others from VIOLATING the Law of the Land, and UNDERMINING the National Security of the Motherland.

Let ALL those who conspire to betray the Motherland, and violate Sri Lanka's laws with impunity take note: You will no longer will be allowed to run free; you will be held accountable for your actions! You can RUN, but you will not be able to HIDE! Therefore, CEASE and DESIST, in your own interest.

[I say it's all good. Hopefully MR will find the right 'thela' (oil) for the right ailment.]

Well said mate!

Yep, our "Maharajanani" will find the right "thel" for the right treatment - rest assured.

Many people underestimated him and today they are no better than the dog-ticks shed by a dog that played in the sand.

At first, even I was not a fan of his when he was refusing to give a military response starting Nov 2005 when LTTE whores re-started that last "eelam war" by blowing up our boys in the SLA and SLN with claymores and thermobaric shells and they did such attacks with horrific results.

While LTTE whores were blowing up our boys in this manner, MR was appealing for "negotiations" as the way out of violence and I was going bonkers at his inaction. I was thinking, "oh no, here we have a bigger wimp than even the RW ponna!).

However, even what I failed to pay attention to was his very slightly, subtly stated "I have my patience and it is not limitless" threat that was hidden in his overwhelming plea for "peace and negotiations."

I am sure that when even the LTTE chief whoredog VP read his appeals, he must have thought he had SL by the balls and finally here is the "thamileelam" coming on a platter (on a Golden platter that is, as RW Ponnaya had already promised it on a Silver platter in 2003!)

Yes, little did the grade-5 educated podiyen VP whoredog - of course the "Sole Representatives of Tamils" - know what was in store for him!

Little did he know that when he spurned those repeated appeals from MR for "peace and negotiations" that he had just signed his own death warrant...that in just over 3 years his empire would be decimated and he would be found dead in a muddy pool, with his skull hacked opened, in his underwear!

:)) :)) :))

So, any of these anti-SL whores who underestimate this cunning Ruhuney Sinhaya is bound to find his/her match sooner or later - Guaranteed!

So be forewarned.

Some (new) handle in DW said there are two multipolars - 1. rana+his 20 handles 2. really cold + his 20 handles. This seems true on one hand, but again its not an impossibility considering highly trained multipolar performance and its hard to believe existence of two sickos with same symptoms in one blog at same time from the probability theory I learned. Further I don't know about new guy - perhaps another avatar of multipolar.

Why am i only learning now there is a multipolar party in DefenceWire?

Anonymous said...

1. /In my view, both EPDP and TMVP must contest on their own.

Rationale: It is too early in the post-war game for GOSL ruling party to be contesting these "LTTE brainwashed" electorates on its own./

2. /Government should "encourage" Thonda to side with UNP, then brake away and join up with the Governmet like he always does./

This is from numbers perspective.Things to consider;

1. The party get highest votes gets 1 bonus seat in each district

2. National list MPs depends on total votes in island

3. All minority party MPs wll switch for their advantage

4. Usually not all candidates win nominated by small parties

So UPFA need to tally all these when allocating nominations.

My own
[starting Nov 2005 when LTTE whores re-started that last "eelam war" by blowing up our boys in the SLA and SLN with claymores and thermobaric shells and they did such attacks with horrific results]

Got to tell you a story...

When I was in SL a couple of years ago, through a "connection" I went to see a wounded braveheart in the Navy hospital. What was special about my going to see this wounded (severely and recovering) SLN braveheart was what my connection wanted me to hear firsthand what had brought him there.

What I heard, I will never forget.

Evidently, it were the claymore/thermobaric attacks starting November 2005 that brought him there.

What this SLN braveheart told me made my hair stand on its end.

He said once the claymores had incapacitated the bus they were traveling in (from Mannar to Vavuniya), the LTTE started shooting RPGs affixed with thermobaric shells into the bus (the one or two survivors were told so only later) and he could see the steel frame of the bus melting right before his eyes not to mention the wounded inside/fallen right outside the bus virtually being roasted to ashes right before his eyes. Evidently he had been blown out of the bus some ways still clutching his weapon in the initial claymore blast and though he was severely wounded, bleeding heavily, he continued to fire his T56 at the attackers (along with a few others who survived although severely wounded, although most died en-route to med-care).

This is what Ranil Ponnaya's much touted "peace accord" brought our brave fighting men in November 2005 - so he told me and I agree with him 1000%!

After listening to his story, my hatred for that Ponna Huttha went up by 1000%!

Agree Sam.

What's noteworthy in the above story was the fact that Ranil Ponna Huttha had gotten guarantees from the LTTE, which were further guaranteed by the Norwegians whores, that this was a time of "peace" and LTTE pundais would not resort to attacks against SLDF without providing advance notice. As such this poor Naval braveheart told me they were traveling on that Mannar Vavuniya road (on leave most of them) and they were having a good time inside the bus with sing-songs etc. when the claymores blasted the bus!

Of course, the Norwegians quickly denied any involvement of the LTTE and the LTTE too blamed such on "disgruntled Tamil civilians" which quickly the Norwegians picked up and coined as a "third force" at play!

Imagine "Tamil civilians" in Vanni who would not know how to shoot a sports starter pistol now firing Thermobaric shells?

Wow!

Yes, Ranil the Ponna too believed the version Norwegians parroted then and strongly advised the MR GOSL of mounting any counter-response against the LTTE citing that would jeopardize the "ceasefire" in place !!!

Yeah, this is how we came darn close to losing our country and it is good to reminisce about it now and then.

This is why I say it was Harry Hodini ACT.

When MR came to power International shackles were all around Sri Lanka tightly so that it cannot move even a nanometer and the LTTE was safe to act as it wished( This is the meaning of RW's International safety net on the LTTE that he is still boasting about. Trinco was as good as gone. The Elam was as good as established.) JVP was asking MR to risk everything by demanding MR to act as a bull in the china shop. The JVP plan would have worked perfectly for the benefit of the LTTE and also the Int. Thugs.

But, he was slowly working with the shackeles and got to the point that he could outrightly refuse any demands from the West.

People have all forgotten about that era already. Sri Lanka had lost its diginity. If Sri Lanka tried to claim it in a hurry they would have burried us.

So MR worked extremely skillfully to get out of International Shackles. That is why everyone is hating him now, not for his other shortcomings.

May be I am really concerned about these shortcomings but many people who hate him do so only because he shattered their selfish LTTE dream.

For instance RW is angry since MR won the war there by the love of people.

Sri Lanka Court issues warrant against Fonseka's son-in-law

ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

75 million rupees recovered in mother's bank vault

Feb 15, Colombo: The Colombo Fort Magistrate today issued an arrest warrant for Dhanuna Tillekaratna, former military chief General Sarath Fonseka's son-in-law over the multi-million dollar arms deal by the Hicorp Inc.

Tillekaratna, who as the president of Hicorp International and the British Borneo Defence, is accused of earning profits from arms procurement deals of the Army that were awarded to him by the former Army Commander General Fonseka during the war with the LTTE.

Meanwhile the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has uncovered 15 million rupees, 100 sterling pounds, and 527,000 US dollars from four safety lockers of a private bank in Colombo that belonged to Tillekaratne's mother.

The CID examined the lockers in front of Tillekaratne's mother following a special court order issued by the Colombo Magistrate.

General Sarath Fonseka had the authority to approve procurement of arms up to 25 million rupees while he was the Army Commander.

Last week, Fort Magistrate rejected a motion requesting anticipatory bail submitted by Tillekaratna, stating that there was a possibility that the applicant may abscond and ordered the Controller General of Immigration and Emigration to prohibit from leaving the country. However, he is evading the arrest.

Sri Lanka's opposition coalition cracking

By KRISHAN FRANCIS

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka (AP) -- The main partner in Sri Lanka's opposition coalition will contest the next elections independently, officials said Monday, the first split since its defeated presidential candidate was arrested for alleged sedition.

United National Party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe told reporters Sunday that his party had decided to go it alone, but might still field joint candidates with others in the April 8 polls. The main party representing the country's Tamil minority announced earlier it would also go it alone.

The leader of a smaller opposition party, Mano Ganeshan, told The Associated Press on Monday that the possibility that the UNP would reverse its decision was the "only silver lining," because otherwise the opposition would have no chance of countering the president's control of parliament.

"I believe that the grand alliance that took shape during the presidential election is falling apart due to the very rigid position taken by the UNP," said Ganeshan, who runs the Democratic People's Front. "I am afraid it may not continue."

In the presidential vote last month, a motley crew of liberals, ultra-nationalist Marxists and former Tamil separatists fielded former army chief Sarath Fonseka, who had been a close ally of the president until a falling-out after the war against Tamil Tiger rebels ended last year.

After President Mahinda Rajapaksa won a wide victory, the military arrested Fonseka for alleged sedition. No formal charges have been filed, and the opposition has described Fonseka's arrest as revenge for daring to challenge Rajapaksa.

Opposition officials and rights groups say that since Rajapaksa's re-election the government has started to seek retribution against political opponents, harassing, attacking and arresting some.

Police said Monday they have secured an arrest warrant for Fonseka's son-in-law after government officials accused him of using his connections to the army to earn commissions through arms deals.

Shortly after the poll, Rajapaksa dissolved parliament, setting the stage for April 8 general elections in which the ruling coalition hopes to deepen its grip on power.

The Tamil National Alliance, the largest party for ethnic Tamils, also is splitting from the coalition to contest the election independently.

But another partner, the Marxist People's Liberation Front, said it wants to keep the coalition intact and keep Fonseka as its figurehead in their contest for parliament seats.

Political analyst Jehan Perera said contrasting economic policies likely led the United National Party to leave the coalition. UNP officials also may have feared the Marxists would eat into their base of voters, securing greater bargaining power within the coalition.

Perera had doubts that the move made political sense.

"If the opposition contests together they are likely to be stronger," he said.

Tamil Eelam dream is still raging: Lankan Army Chief

Hindustan Times
Colombo, February 15, 2010

Despite the killings of top LTTE leaders, including its chief Velupillai Prabhakaran, and the decimation of the rebels, the concept of Tamil Eelam has not died out amongst those harbouring it, Sri Lankan Army chief has warned.

"Even at present those who had connections with terrorists and the Tamil Diaspora overseas are still discussing the possibility of establishing a state of Eelam according to information we received," Lt Gen Jagath Jayasuriya has said.

During his separate interactions with troops at Kallady, Thoppigala, Vakarai and Punani in eastern Sri Lanka, Lt Gen Jayasuriya recalled the numerous sacrifices made by War Heroes at the risk of their own "lives, blood, sweat, legs and limbs", the army said in a statement.

This is despite the fact that the Tigers' military wing was defeated in May last year, he said during his maiden visits to the Brigades in the Eastern Province last week.

Stating that the Army has the responsibility to protect the country, Jayasuriya said a large number of troops in Northern and Eastern areas were deployed not for offensive duties but for observations or intelligence duties.

Venerable Mahanayakas, Stop Meddling in Law & Order and Keep Out of Politics

By Dilrook Kannangara
LankaWeb.com

Citing the Dutugemunu-Saddhatissa feud in relation to the present crisis is hilarious. When the two brothers disagreed, they knew their boundaries. They never betrayed the nation or its national interests. However, Fonseka has betrayed national interests. The Fonseka affair is more akin to the Dhatusena-Senpathi Migara affair. Senpathi Migara was Great King Dhatusena’s army commander. After successfully vanquishing enemies of the nation, the two fell out. Senpathi Migara engaged himself in anti-national and anti-government business and was duly punished. Therefore Fonseka must be punished for his crimes too.

In the past the Mahasangha took the lead in defending the nation from both foreign and local conspirators. Unfortunately some members of the Mahasangha today do the exact opposite just because party politics has taken the better of them.

There is an enacted law in Sri Lanka made by elected lawmakers. No one is above the law, certainly not the Mahanayakas. It is deplorable when they make public their opinions that are not inline with the law of the land. Upholding the law is the responsibility of everyone and the Mahanayakas must set a good example. Given their influence on the society and power, they must conduct themselves in a manner that justifies their responsible position.

Sarath Fonseka was arrested following the law. The process of his arrest, detention and investigation strictly follows written law and procedure. Reasonable force was used when arresting him because he resisted arrest and he has no right to resist arrest by competent authorities. A communally prejudiced political party leader who heads a communally prejudiced political party, deliberately told the press that Fonseka was humiliated during his arrest. He calculatedly made this malicious comment to cause maximum division in the society. This communal minded politician was sacked from his ministerial post in 2001 for declaring a separate racially demarcated ‘country’ in Eastern Sri Lanka. Therefore no law abiding citizen should take him seriously. Fonseka has been allowed access to law as with his Fundamental Rights petition. There was no blocking or otherwise hindering this legal move. That means the law is functioning.

Sympathy and gratitude for past service verses the future

Without a doubt Fonseka has rendered yeoman service to the nation in the past. This happened at a time when he had no political ambitions. The moment he was dragged to divisive politics by bankrupt politicians, he got accustomed to their way of life. His words became uncivilised, his conduct became unacceptable and his associates became strange. But most of all he lost 59 years of patriotism that he cultivated throughout his life.

Fonseka is entitled to his past achievement only as long as he stands by his own achievements. However, now he is trying to destroy all that as if the victories he was a part in, were his very own. He’s wrong. His achievements don’t belong to him alone. Those achievements belong to every Sri Lanka and to every soldier and leader of this country who struggled to bring the victory of May 18th. Over 27,000 soldiers and an unknown number of civilians gave their lives and there’s no one to claim their share of the victory. Does that mean a vociferous retired General can rob and amass their achievements?

Venerable Mahanayakas, Stop Meddling in Law & Order and Keep Out of Politics

......continued 1........
What matters now is how well Sri Lankans protect the victory and convert it to economic development. Against this yardstick, where does Fonseka rank? Very poorly; unfortunately. That’s not all; Fonseka now threatens the very law he once upheld by maintaining a private army comprising thousands of army deserters. Another offence is his shameless allegations of war crimes by the Defence Secretary and ground commanders. He makes these false allegations time to time knowing fully well that there is a massive worldwide campaign launched by anti-Sri Lankan elements to charge Sri Lankan war heroes with bogus war crimes. This conduct is totally unacceptable and criminal.

Selective application of the law

Many have blamed the government for selectively applying the law. Sadly this happens in most third world countries. However, that does not mean the whole system of law and order should be scrapped. Customary violation of law is not an excuse; never an excuse. The Opposition Leader compares the case of Fonseka against Karuna, George Master and Daya Master who are ex-LTTE terrorists. Have they endangered Sri Lanka, its dignity and its military recently? They pose no threat to Sri Lanka now and there is little sense in punishing them urgently. On the other hand Fonseka poses a grave danger to Lanka persistently, its dignity, it’s military and law and order. His continued involvement in illegal and anti-national activities endangers everyone and the country as a whole. Each passing day he falls to a new low.

Immediately before his arrest he declared that he would ‘reveal’ to anyone the alleged war crimes committed by the Sri Lanka Defence Forces. This is a world’s first! Nowhere in the world has a former army commander tried to implicate his own army of war crimes. Should the government tolerate this insane and irrational conduct? It is another crime to omit punishing him for these grave crimes.

Prelates must advise Fonseka instead

Instead of getting entangled in the legal system and in politics, chief prelates of all the chapters must show some unity and advise the Fonsekas to stop discrediting their own country. They must also try to understand global and regional cross currents at work against Sri Lanka. Further, they need to understand that what they say will be used by highly opportunistic politicians to arouse the people to commit violence threatening hard earned peace. Sadly Fonseka used a Buddhist temple, the Washington Buddhist Vihara, to launch his divisive political campaign. His divisive political statement which he made there came just minutes after the great piece of advice (Anushasana) the chief monk of the temple gave. That shows the level of significance Fonseka gives to the advice by the Mahasangha. If the Mahasangha contravenes the law and order of the country and show him any support when he is at the wrong end of the law, this further encourages him to follow the same destructive path. Show him some mercy and point out to him what is right and what is wrong. Raising a private army like an African warlord and discrediting the nation are crimes whatever the way one looks at them. Through the guidance of the Noble Triple Gem the Mahanayakas must assume courage to call a crime, a crime, no matter who committed it.

If it was in JR's time, what would have happened to these chief monks.... good to be seen.

Ranil called them as they are there to fill the "Padikkam".... Now these monks are acting as spokepersons for JVP and UNP.

MR is sending a delegation...? good that he is not going... These monks are living in luxury and eating meat balls and sausages etc on special menus for their "Dana" and eat three meals per day... They are not true diciples of Lord Buddha....but big businessmen...

They just wanted some publicity and to show the world that Buddhist monks are not extremists to please white masters of the joint opposition....

otherwise they do not care about Sarath Fonseka or Mahinda Rajapakse or any other for getting rid of LieTTE..... Have they ever helped a single "Rana viruwa"...? have they ever built a house for any disabled soldier from the millions of Rupees they earn daily from the Temple collection....

When RP's time, he had video'ed the "holy acts" done by our chief monks of Malwatte and Asgiri in Bangkok... and kept their mouths shut.

Holy water running!!!

Didn't Gonz have a gon attack during the PE saying "i did not sit in ACed rooms during the war", considering his penchant for lying and accusing his others of crimes he has committed ("transference") it is obvious this is what he has been doing as many always suspected. While soldiers the calibre of Shavinda Silva, JD, JJ, PS worked hard on the battlefield Gonseka was living it up in Colombo, shuttling around in the lastest Benz model, swallowing huge amounts of cash, giving deals to Danuna. But the gona had the audacity to take full credit for their work (or tried to), as he did with the East (punished the whole command that took the province in 2007) but boasted, "I took the East/won the war". Even the suicide assassination (which was his own doing) attempt on him he NOT ONCE mentioned the men who died protecting him. Its like he defeated the bomber all by himself.

All Ceylon Muslim Congress and SLFP to contest Jaffna, Vanni under UPFA

The All Ceylon Muslim Congress (ACMC) and the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) are preparing to contest the Jaffna as well as the Vanni electoral districts, under the ruling United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) in the upcoming General Elections.

Abdul Risath Bathiyutheen, Minister of Resettlement and Disaster Relief Services speaking to the Asian Tribune said he has already contacted the UPFA leadership and told that he intends to nominate two Muslims to contest in the Jaffna Electoral district, and in the Vanni district he will be leading the UPFA team with four Muslims and five Tamil candidates.

Minister Bathiyutheen further said that in total, there are 30,000 Muslims registered as voters of the North and are living in the Puttalam refugee camps.

These were the people who were chased out of the North by LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhkaran in 1990, he said. These Muslims are now languishing in the Puttalam refugee camps and they are all registered voters of the Northern Province.

He said that he himself was a refugee living in Puttalam but contested and won a seat from Vanni in the 2004 parliamentary elections.

He said out of the 30,000 registered voters, 6000 are from Jaffna and the balance 24,000 is registered as voters of the Vanni electoral district.

In the meantime, Velmurugu Thangarajah, the SLFP Chief Organiser of the Jaffna district, said that they have decided to contest in the Jaffnaelectoral district under the ruling UPFA ticket. He said along with him he has decided to nominate the leading SLFP Party members of the district to contest from the Jaffnadistrict.

According to LEN the money found with Danuna's Mother is election campaign money.

This means the West have funded their campaign or they have converted election money collected from Sri USA dollars.

Each case leads to corruption.

So to escape from this situation they need to provide that individuals in other countries sent them money.

This can be easily investigated.

I think this is high corrupt money.

Good name - the way Sri Lanka got through the International Food Crisis and then International Financial Crisis is a minor miracle. At first, pundits were predicting that Sri Lankans will starve. Then they said we will run out of foreign reserves. Getting through these weren't accidents, they were due to far-sighted policies by Mr Houdini. Had we let IMF dictate our policies we would have had to stop the war against LTTE long ago. How quickly people (specially Colombians) forget!

At last some sense from Foreign Ministry.

---------------

The Sri Lanka Government is seeking a reversal of the EU decision to temporarily suspend the GSP Plus facility to the country and will engage with the EU over the next six months in an attempt to achieve this goal.

The Sri Lankan Foreign Ministry, in a statement over the GSP plus withdrawal, said that the Sri Lankan government is confident that the EU and its Member States would, during the process of engagement, pay due attention to the manifold challenges yet faced by Sri Lanka, as a democracy that fought a decisive battle against terrorism.

“The Sri Lanka Government is hopeful that the unbroken engagement with the EU, would result in the timely reversal of the temporary suspension, thereby enabling the people of Sri Lanka to continue to draw on the GSP+ facility for their economic empowerment, including for the post-conflict recovery and rehabilitation of the North and of the East,” the Foreign Ministry said.

The Sri Lankan government notes that it values her longstanding relations with the EU. Sri Lanka will therefore continue her engagement with the EU in the upcoming 6 months with a view to sensitizing the European side through a constructive dialogue, concerning both the rapid, demonstrable and sustainable progress that has been gained since the end of the conflict situation, as well as the further steps that would be taken in that direction.

The Government also pointed out that the purposefulness of such an engagement would be considerably heightened, if both parties were to act with sincerity and in a manner respectful of one another. The setting of unattainable targets and the shifting of goal posts will only hamper the efforts of the parties. The engagement will also need to be sensitive to the sovereign prerogative of the people of Sri Lanka, to chart their nation’s course.

(2) Investigate why more than 90% cast the postal votes.
and most significantly
(3) Declare Fonseka the winner of the PE.

I have no words for this kind of a-holes like Ranil, Amanawansa, Ravi etc, who are still incapable of understanding the common Sri Lankan's heart. They need to walk around the country and talk to the average man to feel the pulse.

Furthermore, they need to be educated about blatant acts of treachery committed by Fonseka against our forces. I simple wish that we have Rev. * Pay hike for workers
* Meals at Temple Trees
* Abuse of State media
* Army top brass on TV
* False claim on polls day
* Violence, intimidation
* Discarded ballot papers
* Public officer’s propaganda
* TNA-SF secret pact
* Abuse of state property
* Counting without agents

General (retd) Sarath Fonseka yesterday filed a petition in the Supreme Court, requesting that the re-election of Mahinda Rajapaksa as President of Sri Lanka at the Jan. 26 polls be declared void.

The petition requested the Court to declare the return of Mahinda Rajapaksa as undue and to declare Sarath Fonseka the duly elected President of Sri Lanka./

No computer jilmat..? HIKz

If these were violations of election law and if MR is guilty I think SC may declare polls void. If so GSL have to conduct election again..! isn't it? Under what logic or law a defeated candidate should appoint as president..?

UPFA lists ...

Merwin => Gampaha

Muthuhettigama => Galle

Rathwaththe => National list

DiMu..? Fowzi..?

Of course, party can decide whom to appoint from national list (they can even appoint out of national list) But national list should be at least attractive - should include people with national recognition, popular characters, scholars etc.

Merwin and Muthuhettigama will for sure start violence, do some stupid talks and there by reduce total votes in Gampaha and Galle districts. I don't know for what benefit UPFA pay such cost. Now its upto voters in Gampaha and Galle not to give preferential for these two nut cases and that may be hard to keep them out as UPFA is expected to get more seats in both these districts. MR must not appoint them in national list if they lose and instead should give some suitable alternative jobs for their living.

I don't have issue with Geetha or Jackson contesting. They are at least new!!

I am not sure about rumors but UPFA need to worry about DiMu and Fowzi unless cross over rumors were baseless.

Gammanpila not contesting means JHU will get one less seat. If JHU request
PCR - Colombo
UG - Gampaha
Rathana Thero - Kaluthara
+ 2 slots in national list if all three wins they could get 5 seats.

Part I

Most Venerable Prelates (Athi Garu Maha Nayakawaruni)

It is an extremely rare opportunity that happens once in an eon that one gets to witness an act of such infinite and unconditional compassion. I am simply speechless to talk about piety and reverence I felt by reading your recent letter to President Mahinda Rajapaksha. The letter is an epitomic gem of universal Maithri. Upholding of this centre pillar concept of Maithri by you, most venerable prelates, deserves extolment made in eloquence of Ama Wathura.

Buddha preached and practiced infinite compassion and Maithri in a non-selective manner. He did not stop there. He also transformed people like Angulimala and Alawaka to be dharmika (nonviolent and well principled). And only then he accepted them. Buddha’s limitless compassion did not mean that Angulimala was allowed to do whatever he was doing. It meant stopping him doing the crimes he committed. Then he knew that there were people who were nearly impossible to be rehabilitated; for instance consider Devadatha. Then again Buddha’s infinite kindness did not permit Buddha to rule that cause and effect was invalid in Devadathha’s case since he had royal blood in him.

Most venerable Prelates, your infinite wisdom appears to me as asymmetrical and is applied only in a selective manner. This is the only issue that I have with your infinite compassion. Buddha might have different notion of egalitarian application of Universal Maithri. For instance, cause and effect in Buddhism has no selective basis and it applies to everybody and everything.

Nevertheless you may have your own way of non-selective egalitarian application of this principle of universal compassion. In that case, you simply do not need to worry about contravening Buddha Dharma as there is already a precedent from the Buddhist Temple. As you know really well, a part of Buddhist Temple has ruled that Buddha’s idea of caste is being irrelevant to a person’s conduct, is irrelevant, invalid and outdated. It is the humble opinion of this mortal that there is enormous room for you to improve non-selectiveness of application of your Nahi Verena-Verani-Maithri principle.

To do so, I do not ever dream of asking for you to renounce your veneration of Mr. Fonseka and his sins since it might not fit with the agenda whatever there is. However, it is imperative to be seen as you apply your infinite compassion to everybody in egalitarian manner. Otherwise, you will earn a great deal of ridicule and at the end your infinite compassion could go wasted without achieving your goal for Mr. Fonseka.

This is my proposal. Why do not you write to President asking to release all the rapists, murderers, drug dealers and all other forms of criminals from jails? To strengthen this universal and unconditional compassion you should also demand immediate disbanding of police and courts.

People might object here. They might argue that Mr. Fonseka has not yet tried legally and these criminals have been convicted by courts of law. Isn’t this the crux of the injustice? I implore you not to fall prey to such Fonsakist logic. These criminals are in jails since they were investigated and tried. This means that a great injustice of colossal magnitude has already happened to them since they were investigated. For this reason it is evident that your universal and unconditional Maithri has not been applied to them. Most Venerable Prelates, you need to adamantly demand the Government to release all criminals. This is the only way to compensate for this huge blunder that infinite, unconditional kindness which you apply for the angel Mr. Fonseka has not been applied to these criminals. If this infinite Maithri has been applied to them these criminals would not have been jailed. This is an injustice of untold cruelty. We are very pleased with you, Prelates, since you have come forward to rectify this injustice. Now, in Sri Lanka this new form of justice must apply to everybody, not just to Mr. Fonseka; don’t you think so?

to be continued.

Part II

May I ask you one thing more, please? You need to extend your compassion to the President too. The President is condemned by Ranil, Mangala, the West and the Angel Mr. Fonseka because he did not show infinite kindness and compassion to the LTTE and Separatism. Can you apply your infinite compassion to Mr. President too, just to look impartial?

Most venerable Prelates, I am expecting you to make an announcement demanding the Government to disband police and courts and release of all criminals from jail. Furthermore, I trust that a statement of forgiveness for Mahinda Rajapaksha would also be forthcoming for his crime of defeating the LTTE.

By the way, I have some differences with the President. Even though you apply infinite maithri to Mr. Fonseka I will not apply infinite kindness to Mr. President since my equality and non-selectiveness are different from yours. This is not merely because magnanimity does not reside in my heart but precisely because we mortals expect hour President to be a just and competent leader. One may ask what I expect from the current opposition politicians. My only humble answer to the question is that writing about them to the most venerable Prelates in this letter is beneath my dignity even though it appears like that safeguarding the interests of these politicians as the crown of dignity of the addressees of this note.

So I will ask the President to apply the law equally and non-selectively to all. I demand Mr. President that the protests of the Opposition not attacked by using party supporters. Even if he does not encourage such abuses since they happen under his nose he should bear responsibility. The law order must apply to everybody in a justifiable manner, regardless status or power.

Thank you very much for your time.

Sri Lanka's monks say politicians are creating divisions among them

ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Feb 16, Colombo: Sri Lanka's Maha Sangha say certain groups, engaged in a conspiracy to destabilize the country are acting to create divisions among the country's Buddhist clergy.

Chancellor of the Sabaragamuwa University Venerable Professor Kumburugamuwe Vajira Thera expressed this view today at a media briefing in Colombo noting the current political crisis in the country following the arrest of former military chief and defeated presidential candidate general Sarath Fonseka.

If Mr. Sarath Fonseka, who has been arrested under the military law, has not committed an offence, he will be definitely released, the Venerable Thera said adding that a doubt has arisen among the general public, however, regarding the statements he made while staying in a Colombo Hotel, the day after the presidential election.

The Ven. Vajira Thera said it is the duty of a responsible government to conduct investigations in this regard.

The Chancellor accused the political parties, being unable to face the upcoming general election, of presenting their grievances to the Chief Prelates seeking the release of General Fonseka.

The Thera said the Chief prelates, sympathizing with the politicians, issue conciliatory statements which are then propagated through the media to misguide the masses.

Venerable Vatinapaha Somananda Thera addressing the media said the people must act intelligently, as in the past not to re-direct the country towards violence. He added that Sangha Conference will be conducted to enlighten the masses in this regard.

The government said it will soon be sending a delegation to Kandy to meet the Maha Nayakas of the four chapters to clarify the circumstances that led to the arrest of General Sarath Fonseka in response to an appeal made by the monks for his release.

A well-administered election day but challenges in the pre-election - Commonwealth monitoring group final report on Sri Lanka presidential elections

ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Feb 16, Colombo: The international election monitoring group, the Commonwealth Expert Team issuing its final report Monday on 2010 presidential elections in Sri Lanka said it was generally well-administered on election day but there were shortcomings in the pre-election period due to incidences of inter-party violence.

The Commonwealth Secretary-General, Kamalesh Sharma noted the team's conclusion that "even though on the day of the election voters were free to express their will, shortcomings primarily in the pre-election period meant that overall the 2010 Presidential elections in Sri Lanka did not fully meet key benchmarks for democratic elections."

The Report, completed and signed by all members of the Commonwealth Expert Team prior to their departure from Sri Lanka, was presented to the Commonwealth Secretary-General by the Chair of the Team, Senator KD Knight, a former Minister for Foreign Affairs of Jamaica.

The Report has been distributed to the President of Sri Lanka, leaders of political parties, the Commissioner of Elections and to all Commonwealth governments before it was being made public yesterday.

The Secretary-General said he was encouraged by the report' finding that, "the administrative arrangements for voting and counting were well conducted and the Commissioner of Elections and his staff across the country expended great effort to put in place procedures to ensure Sri Lankans were able to cast their ballots."

However, he noted that many of the problems identified have occurred during previous elections and hoped that those problems, already highlighted by Sri Lanka's Election Commissioner will receive urgent consideration. The Secretary-general offered the Commonwealth's assistance as requested.

The report said the troublesome post-election environment, created by the incident of the defeated candidate moving into a hotel claiming threats to his security and subsequent arrest of Army deserters and the violence followed, was extremely regrettable and 'created a very bad impression in the wake of the poll.'

Making several recommendations the report said some of the problems during the election, notably abuses by state institutions, increasing politicisation of the military and non-adherence to the rule of law, raise serious concerns.

The recommendations included the implementation of the 17th amendment to the Constitution, review of the voter registration process, controlling violence among political parties, preventing the abuse of state resources and transferring the state-run media to a non-political statutory body among other things.

Defeated presidential candidate files petition challenging Sri Lanka election results

ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Feb 16, Colombo: General Sarath Fonseka, Sri Lanka's common opposition candidate who was defeated by a margin of 18 percent at last month's presidential elections filed a petition at the Supreme Court today challenging the re-election of incumbent President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

The General filed a 40-page complaint through his lawyer Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe to the Supreme Court complaining that the election is marred with bribery, corruption, the use of undue influence and vote rigging.

"We ask the Supreme Court that the Election be set aside and declare Sarath Fonseka is the winner of the 2010 election," his lawyer told reporters.

The petitioner has rejected the results saying that he was the winner of the election and alleges the incumbent President of stealing 1.4 million of his votes by vote rigging and electoral malpractice.

President Rajapaksa received an 18 percent margin of victory with 6 million votes over the opposition candidate's 4.2 million votes at the January 26th election.

Sri Lanka's Election Commissioner and local as well as international election observers say despite the violations of election law prior to the election day, the election process was conducted freely and fairly with no malpractices at the polling centers or afterwards at counting centers.

The current conspiracy against MR GOSL per my research tells me is MASSIVE!

There is a massive effort underway by the Tamil-separatist sympathetic non-Tamil entities and the outright LTTE entities to "dump Rajapakse" and get what they could not get through 30 years of terrorism.

To achieve this, they had to tap into the "local power aspirants" and to that end, they were successful in bringing together some disparate parties during the SFW's (SF Whoredog) bid to become the President.

However, what's noteworthy is how all these disparate parties are being coordinated to work together, to achieve this objective.

This is no different to a multitude of applications, hardware, tasks, etc. running on your PC but how the Operating System (OS) controls everything to ensure they all have the needed coordination.

So, the OS in this "dump Rajapakse" case is definitely an entity with a vast resource at its disposal and also has much prior experience in carrying out such regime change OS activities world over.

Yes, this conspiracy is MASSIVE.

GOSL today knows about this I am told. Desperate situations call for desperate measures and that is what most patriotic minded people are advising MR GOSL today.

Interesting times ahead for sure!

Just consider just a few of the "very strange but true" events we have seen lately:

1) SF the hero in no time became SF the whoredog; he left the Patriotic MR GOSL clan by presenting some feeble (and outright false) excuses! The question here is what carrot was dangled before him to do so and who did the dangling?

2) JVP aligning with UNP on the same platform!

2) Mano Gonashan sitting on the same platform with the JVP!

3) SFW agreeing to give into TNA (LTTE) demands for the "thamileelam" birth during PE campaign! Unthinkable few months ago!

4) How some "world powers" without looking into the facts jumped at attacking MR GOSL and asking for SFW's release!

5) Now the Mahanayakas too are uttering anti-MR GOSL statements and asking for SFW's release - without finding the facts!

wow!

These highly erratic and incomprehensible events alone should tell us that there is an "extraordinary and sinister hand" at play, and that there is no more a legitimate Opposition force in SL today, but instead there is a MASSIVE CONSPIRACY to remove the regime in power through a well coordinated scheme using the very same democratic freedoms and institutions in the nation (that they complain as lacking) and force in yet another "Cypress Solution."

We need to face up to this vile enemy and their insidious designs dear Patriots and we must do it with all fervor and dedication.

In my view we are in the midst of a yet another "eelam war" and many of us have failed to realize it.

We know that west will not go away after NDKL 'finish' in the way we go home after a cricket match or after a movie. SL is situated in the Indian ocean in a very strategic place and its too vital for them - not to ignore.

"SF operation" was some handy work by US/west/diasspora - no question. Lets give the credit to enemy. How they now use JVP is also quite a job. (However, India used JVP in 88-89 in a classic way - eliminating 60,000 sinhala youth on the streets.)

When the threat was from south india our kings knew how to handle it. But it took centuries for us to learn handle threat from west. But we learned and still learning.

Our nation now decisively need to set the direction under MR leadership for next leaders and generations. Its Dutugemunu who taught the nation how to fight south indian invaders while being buddhists. MR should set the path how to survive as sinhalese in one country while fighting west+diasspora.

Addressing the media at the Hotel Intercontinental, Muthuhettigama, the SLFP organiser for Baddegama said that Kumarasinghe wouldn’t cause a problem for him. He said that he wouldn’t want to end up in jail again by clashing with Kumarasinghe.

Emphasising he wouldn’t quit the SLFP for whatever the reason, he said that his only intention was to serve the people of Galle. He said that had he accepted money from the UNP and the JVP to switch his allegiance to the Opposition ahead of the January 26 presidential poll, he would have ended up in jail like Opposition presidential candidate General (retd) Sarath Fonseka. The UNP charged today that two notorious deputy ministers had threatened the Mahanayakes of the four chapters not to conduct the special ‘Mahasanga Convention’ at the Sri Dalanda Maligawa Temple in Kandy.

The prelates announced yesterday that they decided to postpone the Convention due to security concerns of Buddhist monks and devotees who are expected to assemble at Mahamaluwa of Sri Dalanda Maligawa for this purpose.

Commenting on the Mahanayakes’ move, UNP MP Tissa Attanayake told reporters today that a government delegation accompanied by a Buddhist monk had called on the Mahanayakes and threatened them not to go ahead with this convention. (KB)

Re: Mannar colonization

Rumors say it's an ex-JHU monk, however the scale is not that large.. even going by Tamilnut's 1000 acre story, that means 200-250 families (1000-1250 people)..This mean's 2-3 of villages at most..However, if this is replicated at the edges of mulla (via anuadhapura & polonnaruwa) and parts of vavuniya as well, that means a Sinhala member (or two)elected from Vanni in the next election (2016 or before)

Not the perfect solution, but a Northern prvoince with 10% Sinhalese is better than one with <1% Sinhalese

Sujeewa Kokawala said...

DiyaS;

[[Not the perfect solution, but a Northern province with 10% Sinhalese is better than one with <1% Sinhalese]]

Exactly. There is no "perfect" solution but in my view this is the best and lasting one.

Yes this will make life hard for TAMIL* racist politics and Sinhala ppl can also get elected.

However the main expectation is not to have a sinhala MP or so. Most importantly when they live in those outbacks they will get mixed up with one another and they will help each other. The lesson is not to think along the ethnic barriers but think across them. Most Sinhala know it. But it is obvious taht most tamils don't.

Another important fact is taht resettling shud be based on mixed ethnic BG. It is good if the villages are mixed up instaed of having tamil village and sinhala village separately.

But we cannot blame the organizers for that. As civilan movemebnt they do their best. A genuine solution is to conduct this by govt. It shud ahve been a part of teh resettlement of IDPs, which was never to be.Still not too late.

One good thing is how many ppl in south are willing to move. It is a good sign. Govt needs to take this up from this point. And on this critical moment JHU shud take this up with govt.

What you envision is the final goal and should be the outcome over a generation or two. However getting a Sinhala MP from the Vanni (this should be two actually, there have been previous Sinhala representatives from Vavuniya) is the main aim in the short term..With muslims being elected from Vanni and Jaffna this will break the Tamil only homeland myth..Moreover Sinhala villages on the Mulla/A'pura (Mulla side) border as well as those on the Polonnaruwa/Trinco (Trinco side) border will act as a buffer against any re-merger attempts.

There are even Sinhala villages in the Batti district (i.e. Mangalapura), these should be protected and possibly expanded from the Ampara/Batti border..

The Dutch and British created these problems by strategiclally drawing lines on our map..These probs can be remedied by strategically altering a few lines here and there..

Asithri,

The Government has learnt the hard way, if they have learnt at all.

Up to this moment they seemed blissfully away of what the West, with its media and local agents were trying in Sri Lanka. And I still believe they still do not get it and have not grasped the entire picture. One thing was certain and I pointed this out after the PE, was that the West will not give up trying to toss out MR and now they have proof that the vast majority of Sinhalese are backing him they will/are going out of their way to crack this and turn the people against him.

MR keeps making the stupid mistake of "moving" on. After he won the PE he said he would like to "improve relations with the West" based on idiotic thinking that because they saw the results of the PE, they would give up. This is the same moronic belief he had after the war back in May 2009 where he told the Time Magazine when asked "the West tried to put war crimes & sanctions on Sri Lanka, what do you have to say", he replied "these things happen, I would like to move on". What happened? They gave us the Channel 4 video.

MR & Government just do not get it, or hopefully they are starting to now. You cannot trust these people. They will never treat us with "respect" nor "accept" MR until he dances to their tunes like a good monkey and does what they want, which is crushing Sri Lanka, keeping the nation forever broken, unstable and economically dependent on them/retarded.

This Government still does not get what negative press is and do nothing pro-active to counter this until shit hits the fan and damage is done. When things start out small (like the bogus HR claims back in 2006), they just did nothing, all they said was "its lies", "LTTE payroll" (and in fact they still do say this) and just sat around until something massive happened by which point they start to react but its too late. Its extremely frustrating to see this idiotic laid back feet up approach only jolting into action in reaction to something. They need to be pro-active.

Whenever we do expose what is being done to Sri Lanka (such as US funding Gonsekas campaign, and other such revelations, activities of NGOs etc) we play it to the same audience, i.e. Western media. They are one of the weapons against our nation. I always see this pointless begging in front of Western media as if they are going to report our side, that will never happen. Their media is an extension of their foreign policy and will report on how they are told to report.

Furthermore the Government takes the friendships we do have for granted. In China and the South East Asia region they are not doing enough to cultivate and strengthen the relationships with these countries.
Need to buy up spaces in newspapers, tell our story. In SEA, Africa, and South America we will have audiences who will be sympathetic to us as they to suffer from the same machinations from the West.

Furthermore need to invest in groups, media, Government officials and politicians in these countries to ensure continual support. Call it the "Sri Lanka Friendship trust fund" and pay out money. The "world" does not mean just the West nor does it mean getting their approval fro everything. Its not that difficult to win real world support.
There needs to be a multilayered approach. Our embassies in these countries must be tasked with doing this. Talking to diplomats from these countries in Geneva and New York is good, but not enough.

Sujeewa Kokawala said...

PolS;

West calls their policies strategies. So shud we. We shud not do anything unnecessary. Always we shud be their best friends as far as their eyes are concerned. Yet we do not allow them to do anything as they wish.

MR proved this as a working model during war.

Meanwhile many countries like Iran, Libya etc have taken diff aveneues and I don't see them as winners.

Anonymous said...

SK,

I am not advocating a confrontational approach, i know how foolish that can be. I just want to see more awareness which i believe has been lacking on part of the Government (the ordinary people are better at this). MR can say all he wants "I want to have good relations with the West" but if he actually believes that will happen, that after the PE the West will back off knowing the thumping majority of Sinhala people back him, then he is extremely foolish. (He did this after the war and the victory at the UNHRC. Government literally thought that was the end of it).

In addition the West is carrying out a negative media blitz against Sri Lanka, the Government is not doing enough to counter it. When non-Western countries want to learn about Sri Lanka they only see the tunnel vision of the West (and their NGOs lackeys), as they run the monopoly on world media.

World opinion is not exactly against us but it is not entirely for us either.

This can be countered by engaging directly with non-Western countries in every strata of their societies and nations. That is why throwing money at media, organisation, politicians in SEA, Africa, South America would be a good thing.

There needs to be "education" on Sri Lanka provided by the Government to these countries on three fronts.

1)Diplomatic
2)Governmental/politicians
3)Media
[[4)NGOs/grass roots organisations/religious centres]]

Government must hire individuals to do this so as to keep the "money trail" clear -akin to the way Gonseka has been funded by the West but thus far we do not have a direct link (most likely money funnelled through would have been transferred via businesses and many middle men plus a donkey like Ravi K).

Do not need to spend that much money either.
Give them a free holiday in SL, pamper them good.
When you think how much is wasted on the jumbo cabinet and ministerial buffoons who do more damage to SL than good, that same amount can be better invested.

Using business ventures from SL going to these regions should first get extensive Governmental/embassy support and must be tasked with also doing the above.

MR Government must engage with the West but as pointed out never trust them blindly and always be aware that they are pursing their own interests which run counter to ours and involves creating division and exasperating / perpetuating existing ones.
We should not ignore the rest of the world, especially South East Asia. Currently we have relatively good diplomatic relations, however that is not enough. Must engage and win over the other strata. These are long term initiatives like re-colonisation, they naturally have teething problems but the long term benefits will be immense.

Recolonisation should of course take priority.

Asithri,

Ruhunu Lions with the help of lions in Pihiti and Maya have bailed the nation out three times from the abyss in the times of Gamini Abhaya, Kirthi Vijyabahu, and Mahinda Rajapakse. Previous two times ushered golden eras. I firmly believe that our time too will be a golden era once we take care of the top scum of Sri Lanka."

Sam, we need to make sure the golden era lasts. As history as taught us they end too quickly and easily. What will happen in 2017 when MR might not lead the country?

We need to change the mentality of the people; the notion of country first must be engrained into the psyche of the nation. Petty politics, “opposing for the sake of opposing”, and the moronic believe that “anything goes” (like gonseaks “there are no friends or enemies in politics”) MUST STOP. Betraying the nation, colluding with foreigners should automatically stigmatise an individuals as lesser citizen, a lesser being. Working for anti-national foreign NGOs, carrying out anti-national work must be deemed as criminal sin against the nation. Having secret dealings and meetings with foreign embassies, spitting on the nation (like we have seen this PE by Ranil/UNP/JVP/SF) in front of foreigners must be looked down upon. People who do such do it knowing little damage can come to them if caught. Running to foreigners, working for foreigners (especially in media) and any acts against the well being of the nation must be treated as the crimes they are and those carrying out such must be made to feel that they are a lower form of life.

The motivation for dissenting must be done out of genuine concern for what is best for the nation, not for the benefit of some low lives or personal benefit, i.e. someone in power or not is doing the above, selling the nation out for some magic beans, revenge or personal desires (like what the Opposition is currently doing).

One of the biggest problems throughout our history that brought many golden eras to an end is jealousy of others achievements, desire for maximum credit and the inherent back stabbing and “anything goes” thinking if it means exacting revenge for some perceived wrong real or false. We need to overhaul the nations mentality where nation comes first above all else and failure to up hold such is a grave crime. It is the only way to eliminate Gonsekas and Ranilams of the future.

/Fonseka petitions SC against MR’s re-election as President

by Chitra Weerarathne

Allegations at a glance

* Pay hike for workers
* Meals at Temple Trees
* Abuse of State media
* Army top brass on TV
* False claim on polls day
* Violence, intimidation
* Discarded ballot papers
* Public officer’s propaganda
* TNA-SF secret pact
* Abuse of state property
* Counting without agents

February 16, 2010 12:41 PM”

More lies from Phoney. What happened to all the corruption charges against MR, the three wheeler brigades eh? LOL. Are they not also damaging lies? This Gonseka sounds like such a cry baby, another list of complaints. We have been subjected to this non stop since his phoney resignation letter.

Interestingly no mention of HiCorp, US funding Gonseka, or Muzzamil Bribery case/bribing Government MPs. Guess that means those happened and very real. Haha.

Pol,

Pay hike for workers

One more thing, Fonseka can promise Rs 10,000 but MR can't promise apparently.

Sujeewa Kokawala said...

[[The petition requested the Court to declare the return of Mahinda Rajapaksa as undue and to declare Sarath Fonseka the duly elected President of Sri Lanka.]]

This part sounds more like the postwar fugitive SF taht we happened to know recently.

I am sure he pushed the lawyer to the wall and told him to put taht section into the case. The petition itself is not consistent. What fools.

Sujeewa Kokawala said...

PolS;

I think MR is shrewd enough in foreign policy but he had a v bad FM with many such incapable idiots working under him [most his you-know-whos] And that is why we have this prob.

The golden opportunity we lost was to have MR as Prez with Kadir as FM. Even Mongala was better than current one.

Sujeewa Kokawala said...

PolS/Sam;

Re: Future after MR

Well this is really worrying. MR has to do following.

1. Provide SLFP leaderhip to tamils

2. Resettle SL population with all races in N/E hence taking away mono-ethnic enclaves

3. Build strong and permanent camps

4. Start weapon production

5. Bring laws obstructing the manuers that lead upto separatism, with strong punishments

6. Create national security council taht makes defence decisions in more methodical and anticipative manner.

7. Keep on building three forces with man power and technology

8. Build a string coast guard unit with enough vessels

9. Hold a consensus in N/E in order to re calculate teh number of seats there [this shud have happened by now. Instead of the worthless PE nonsense]

did I miss any?

Sam Perera said...

Sujeewa,

One of the most important things he should do is to groom future patriotic leaders of Sri Lanka. We will be lost altogether without that.

The supreme court already accepted that MR is elected president according their decision regarding the MR's reelection date case and since supreme courts judgement is final the current election petition against MR's reelection has no basis I guess.
Suppose supreme court didn't accept MR's reelection then simply it conflicts with the previous judgement regarding reelection.

Sujeewa Kokawala said...

[[One of the most important things he should do is to groom future patriotic leaders of Sri Lanka. We will be lost altogether without that.]]

This is what I doubt. In current political context vit is almost impossible. One main prob is lack of such ppl. Note taht MR belongs to teh previous generation.

This is why we need to strengthen everything else. Getting ready for a weaker leader. That is teh only pragmatic line I can think of.

"Sam, we need to make sure the golden era lasts. As history as taught us they end too quickly and easily."

exactly.

when i studied SL history i felt WTF it is ALWAYS like a rollercoaster??

good times rarely lasted. this trend of premature ejaculation must stop.

devanampiyatissa unified the country, buddhism, etc. but then soon thereafter a total motherfcuker named ellalan came. then our boy from the south screwed him but after his brother and nephews ruled, again some other MF from toiletmadu casued trouble.

this BS must stop.

today this can happen MAINLY through internal BS.

a new constitution and a set of LAWS are a MUST.

these should ensure ONLY PATRIOTIC political forces can SURVIVE in SL in the long run.

this is DOABLE.

same goes for media. ONLY patriotic media should be promoted while HEAVILY crippling other media.

there are many ways to do it.

re: patrioctic leaders

MR is unlikely to groom future leaders. as we know he is only interested in keeping power in the rajapaksha family.

don't know how to convince him otherwise.

the other danger is PATRIOTISM getting liked with the rajapakshas. this is bad for BOTH.

to all this we need 150+ seats. it is mathematically impossible to get 150+ seats.

the ability to get a few UNP district nominations rejected must be looked at.

the 2006 colombo CMC thing will NOT happen in a national election.

they will still get a few seats from their independent group but will be less than usual.

govt should try to win the EASY seats of the north by another 1994 SHOCK & AWE strategy!!!

SK,

ratnasiri was not that bad. MPs are NOT under him.

even MR was like a pussycat under CBK.

to his credit ratnasiri didn't rock the boat and now is INCAPABLE of doing it. if it was another, there would be some major infighting with the rajapakshas.

obviously we need someone else in 2010 but that should not split the party.

SB, DMJ, BR or MS means a division, small may be. but even small division means 150+ becoming unreachable. DMJ or MS are totally useless in future. loyalty alone should not drive the decision.

first term was fine but the last term of MR should have an active YOUNGER PM. but without creating divisions. ONLY BR and SB are in the fray?????

Chaps, the plan of Eelamists always have been to construct a fantasy around the tale that Dravidians were already in Sri Lanka when our ancestors arrived 2500 years ago. Here is my comment to counteract such an attempt.

Sinna Siththar, old chap, good to see that you are reading up on research by reputable archeologists. In fact if you carefully read my post on the early inhabitants of Sri Lanka, you cannot miss the fact that what you say about proto-historical iron age people, pretty much matches up with what I said in the second paragraph. The main difference was that you stated these people were part of a Dravidian influx. There is absolutely no empirical evidence to suggest these were Dravidian people. In fact here is what archeologist S. U. Deraniyagala said in his article titled 'PRE- AND PROTOHISTORIC SETTLEMENT IN SRI LANKA (1).

[The Early Iron Age of Sri Lanka, at ca. 1000-500 BC, is referred to as protohistoric since there is no evidence of writing in this period. At ca. 600-500 BC, the first appearance of writing (in Brahmi almost identical to the Asokan script some 200 years later) heralds the commencement of the Early Historic period (Deraniyagala 1992: 739-50). This writing, radiocarbon dated on charcoal and checked by thermoluminescence dating, is inscribed on potsherds signifying ownership. Among the names was Anuradha, which, coincidentally or otherwise, is stated in the ancient chronicles to have been the name of a minister of prince Vijaya, the purported 'founder' leader of the Sinhalese, at ca. 500 BC.]

So, old boy, if there is no empirical evidence, then it is pure speculation on you part to categorize these people as Dravidian. I prefer to deal strictly with empirical evidence such as the inscriptions mentioned by S. U. Deraniyagala above. By the way, my dear fellow, the link you provided below does not work.

we had a number of guys in the military with animal name inferrences.

(the following list has NO major heroes.)

Gen Gaja Nayaka (elephant)
Gen Wana Sinha (lion)
Gen Muna-Sinha (lion)
Gen Rat-watte (rat)
Gen Balu-watte (dog)
Brig Balalla (cat)
Brig Kasturi-arachchi (deer)
Gen Koti-goda (tiger)
Brig WAlaha-koon (bear)
Brig Molli-goda (camel)

and the winner is................

Gen Kalawedda (palm civet)!!!!!

an insignificant issue.

"Anuradha, which, coincidentally or otherwise, is stated in the ancient chronicles to have been the name of a minister of prince Vijaya"

i thought anuradha was a minister of vijaya's successor - panduwasdeva????????

the time period matches.

vijaya landed in 543BC and ruled for less than 57 years. that means his successor had a chance to rule during 600 - 500 BC as well.

Moshe Dyan said...

KB and others,

the MOST convincing evidence of pre-vijaya INDO-ARYANS is the evidence contained in BOTH,

1. maha wansa
2. maha bharata

both chronicles say the SAME thing about them.

the following ppls lived in SL and north india as well according to both

1. yakka
2. naga
3. deva
4. raksha
5. sura
6. asura

according to maha bharata, these guys were ALSO living in north-east, north and north-west india as well DURING THE SAME TIME.

this CLEARLY proves SL was inhabited by the same ppl that lived in north india.

NO PROOF of any south indian (dravidian) ppl!!!

there is another VERY interesting thing about this.

although the maha wamsa and maha bharata say the SAME thing, toilet elam "intellectuals" are SHITT scared to criticise the maha bharata for OBVIOUS reasons!!!

and they take on the "smaller" maha wamsa group.

this is another piece of evidence how north india and SL BYPASSED toilet madu even 3,000 years ago as we do now!!!!

I have a problem GSL handling Gonseka case - on charges.

Will GSL charge Gonseka on revealing war secrets?

If so GSL need to say what secret he revealed.

If the secret is "Gota ordered to kill surrenders" Gonseka may be guilty and go jail. However, that means ""Gota ordered to kill surrenders" is a truth-fact. SO in such a case int. court can charge against GR/MR and SL.

I think GSL stand should be "Gota ordered to kill surrenders" statement is false and Gonseka said so under wrong political advice to gain tamil votes in PE.

So then unless Gonseka has revealed other things "revealing state secrets" will not be a charge.

As Gonseka have said
1. Gota ordered to kill surrenders
2. I didn't say that - I was misquoted
3. No war crimes happened - if happened I take responsibility
4. I am not responsible for orders given by Gota
5. If war crime accusations are there investigations should be done
6. I will testify in int. court against war criminals

Only consistent conclusion one can made from Gonseka is he is liar with no credibility.

[This may be a surprise for out siders how come a former army commander, 4 start general, former war hero, PE candidate with 40% votes have no credibility. But GSL need to convince out siders.]

Moshe Dyan said...

another BS theory is that toilet madu is very close to SL and therefore dravidians came to SL.

yes but not in very large numbers.

why???

bcos the population of toilet madu was VERY small then than now. so there was no need to migrate.

and of course the warriors in SL GENOCIDED toilet madu invaders everytime they tried their luck until 1215CE.

I am no law expert. But up to my knowledge what court did was giving their opinion on starting date on MR second term. We can phrase it as "IF MR is the winner when should his second term start" as the question and SC answer.

If there is a petition on MRs election that should be a separate case. i.e. We can phrase that question as "Was MR the winner?".

I can't understand how SC accepted a case asking to do some thing they can't do. I am referring to

/The petition requested the Court to declare the return of Mahinda Rajapaksa as undue and to declare Sarath Fonseka the duly elected President of Sri Lanka./

(Of course, if chief joker was there any thing is possible..)

I think SC has powers to declare an election null and void and if so I think EC need to re-conduct PE. Apart from this I don't think SC can appoint another one as president. If so, if one can prove Gonseka too has violated election law (by using SLA deserters, false accusations against MR etc) then SC may need to appoint person who got third highest votes (and who is he?).

ninja,

according to the official secrets act, the statement need not be a FACT.

IF it it MUST be a fact, first govt should prove there were war crimes!!!!!

even if it infers a FACT which is in effect a lie, falls under this.

the important thing is STATING a matter CONSIDERED SECRET (priviledged info of a customary officer of the calibre of gen kalawedda) in the ordinary cause of events.

for this reason, there are no special laws for malicious statements, misleading statements, etc.

they are all covered in the law under "secrets".

difficult to understand?????

easy explanation.

gen kalawedda steals a golden coloured chain from mrs karannagoda. alhough the colour os gold, it is a rs. 10 chain. gen kalawedda is produced in court charged with stealing.

now it does not matter the chain is not gold whereas the intention of gen kal was to steal a valuable golden chain.

same punishment.

however, the judge MAY reduce the seerity of the punishment on the ground of no damage.

BTW govt may NOT try gonz for that for 2 different reasons.

1. its too harsh
2. unnecessary media attention to alleged 'war crimes'.

what is the FIRST KNOWN CONTINUING kingdom of toilet madu????

sangam period - 200 BC to 300 BC

(for BOTH tamil madu kingdom and tamil language!!!!)

check it out if you don't believe me.

in other words the vijaya kingdom (continuing) is 243 to 343 years OLDER than the first known continuing kingdom of tamil madu.

Interesting developments:

Malaysian opposition leader jailed/on trial for sodmomy, facing 20 years in jail plus 5-10 years on top of that out of politics.
He is accusing Government of trying to stifle him, prevent him from leading the Opposition/being a political threat to the Government/being ruler of Malaysia and crushing dissent. Has accused one the judge of the trial being biased against him demanding he (judge) step down.

Argentina is exerting its rights on the Falklands islands with regards to the seas around it and attempt by Britain to drill for oil (estimated 70 billion barrels). British opposition (Conservative party) is leading the charge on this. Argentinean ambassador summoned twice and insulted. British Government stand: “the Sovereignty of the islands is non-negotiable”.

12 British passport holders (living in Israel) accused of murdering some Hamas guy (human rights?) in Dubai have been identified by Dubai police. Britain says passports forged, Israeli denies involvement and instead of summoning Israeli ambassador to FO and doing the usual treatment, they have “scheduled a meeting to discuss the issue” – how nice.

Gonseka SC petition is ridiculous. Its just cry-baby whining. He is just as guilty for some of the “accusations” and he is complaining he lost because his propaganda backfired and he has a filthy mouth. If he won then he would not be complaining about any of the things he has listed.
There is no concrete allegation of rigging!

I bet if Gonseka loses this (most likely he will) they will attack the SC. So things will be complete: Sri Lanka has no free media, no proper elections mechanism, no proper legal system, everyone is threatened or on Mahinda payroll, dissent is crushed and we need foreign intervention. Just like the manner in which they attacked our elections system which by far is the most independent and least politicised body in the country, they will do the same to the SC. Just watch.

No other rajapakse is charismatic and politically capable of getting there. None has gone the distance like MR did. Even GR has little chance to win both candidacy and presidency.

Some ppl believe after MR future of SL is in the hands of Sajith. Sajioth is a rare UNPer who never commited a crime so far. But how he can change the non-patriotic UNP leaders is a debate.

But in that case MR did same after CBK. Most SLFP were selling submissive peace to us sometime back.

I agree that Rat-nasiri stood for right things. But he is a aging man with little charisma. And a very bad mouth and hot temper.

If MR has any brains he shud never leave PM with SB. Other than the possible pull of leg etc, even his life will be endangered if he let teh snake out of bag.

I think SC has no power to declare any PE candidate as the president It's EC who should declare the winner. Also ultimate decision in the end of a election petition should be nullify the result and conducting a new election, not declaring anyone the winner.

Haha. MR seem to have pulled some leavers. It is pretty easy to stop some of these maha nayaka theros. There would be lot of skeletons in their closets and no one wants that shit coming out. Hopefully they learnt their lesson.

It is back to square one for RW and SF. Wonder what other magic tricks they got in their bag.

SB is not a patriot. He's worst than many other politicians. It is a sheer danger for SL in fact. To save SLFP from falling into his hands.

-------------------------------
Totally agree. SB definitely shouldn't be the candidate for a next president.
R U sure about Sajith. Wouldn't he be similar to RP. Wish some of the good army commanders after 3-4 years of political work put their hands for presidency. That would be a really good outcome.

I would like some one like WW, higher up, but not sure about his capabilities, although the speeches are excellent and shows clear and logical thinking.

Sujeewa Kokawala said...

Thusitha RP's biggest defect was because he rose from teh lowest level of society all his friends were from that. So when he ruled all kind of shit came to top seats. Individually RP was a v gud leader and had some vision and willingness. But he was not educated enough and some of his perceptions did not sound that good.

SP may not be the same. But we dunno. SP can be anyone. We can't say anything about him yet.

Military leaders coming to politics has one complexity issue. military leaders join politics like celebrities. It is like promoting a child fromkindergarten to grade 10. Most of them fail to relaize teh realities around them and succumb to the situation. SF, JP are two examples.

Also they still believe in military's way as best, hence bringing inappropriate practices. Even gota, in my view, has this defect.

We need another seasoned politician like MR. You see, in SL politics this is what we lack. Prime reason is bacause they are assasinated by pussycats. We face teh great void of political charisma killed by pussycats.

We've gotta expect this. Like vipers the MFs will attack us at that time [didnt mean militarily] and that is why we need MR to make sure better procedures are in place to guard our nation. If he fails them within next 7 years we will reach another chaotic era. So like any great era, post-MR will be chaotic and submissive. Polonnaruwa and Kotte times experienced teh same.

It is a great achievement for multinational Sri Lanka. What we need is a multinational UNP and SLFP w/o any little pieces of racism, or big alliances of bargain politics. Idealy if we can have a third such national party with common political belief [not ideologic] that will complete the table.

Re: Mutt, Rat, Shitt and the Fat

Mutt's nomination sounds very unusual. So far nobody but him has said he's nominated. Nobody but himself has said that he's the organizer of Baddegama. Still Hema Kumara is the official organizer.

Is MR letting the fool dance and have final laugh on nomination day, hence destroying his chances from either side.

Oh well Sirasa will have a field day again.

Rat seems to have won back faith by either double crossing or by giving MR support via his son. Some areas in Kandy were unexpectedly won. And it ca be Lohan's work as well.

Shitt is taken back, maybe as she didnt do much in SF camp. Maybe many still think taht Shitt has some power in Batti. I dunno. She has to prove it.

Still no news about Fat Arjuna. We still dunno which symbol he'll contest under.

Agony corner of SL politics

-----------------

JVP to run under trophy symbol
The JVP has formed a new political front called the Democratic National Alliance (DNA) under the leadership of Gen. Sarath Fonseka and will will contest the upcoming general election with a new trophy symbol.

The new alliance is expected to be backed by SLFP MP Arjuna Ranatunga and SLFP (Mahajana Wing) General Secretary Tiran Alles.

Political sources said the JVP had taken this decision because the UNP had declined to back down from its stand to contest the poll set for April 8, under its elephant symbol. The new alliance has been formed by renaming an existing party since a political party cannot be registered when an election is declared.

After the Presidential Election, the JVP insisted that all parties that supported the candidacy of Gen. Fonseka should stand together under the swan symbol and continue to do politics to defeat the present government. However, the UNP Working Committee which met recently took a unanimous decision to retain its elephant symbol for this election.

Later, the SLMC, the Democratic People’s Front led by MP Mano Ganesan and SLFP (Mahajana Wing) leader Mangala Samaraweera also agreed to contest under the elephant symbol along with the UNP.

However, according to sources, the JVP has still kept space open to go for the poll under the swan symbol if the UNP backtracks from its stand even at this last moment.

“We have kept options open for the UNP. Otherwise, we will form this alternative alliance under the Trophy symbol,” a JVP source said.

Meanwhile, Mr. Alles who commented on the latest political development said it was unfair for them to engage politics for the sake of a political party symbol when Gen. Fonseka was in military custody.

“I am mostly with a person when he or she is in trouble. I got close to Mr. Samaraweera when he was sacked from the Cabinet in 2007. Otherwise, I could have been with the President. I suffered so much during the past three years because I stood by my principles,” he said.

Asked whether he would join the alterative alliance, he did not give a direct reply. However, he said he was even ready to quit politics on his principles.

Such loyalty to the party, how lovely, shame they do not show the same to the nation.

More than a year ago I asked a UNP clown friend "why will the UNP not help the Government in protecting it from this international crap that is trying to bail out the LTTE, at least for the sake of the war", his response: "all is fair in politics".

Seriously the amount of scum in our society is unbelievable. The clown in question had no direct connections to the party nor gained any benefits from it. He was just a tart that votes UNP, breaths UNP, speaks UNP and UNP can do no wrong.

When i asked for reasons why he votes UNP, like how UNP being in power would benefit the country or him, his family etc, he could give no real answer. He votes UNP for the sake of voting UNP, wtf?

Potential hopefuls of the future include Wimal Weerawansa. I think he will be a good "next MR" as he too has the same origins and thinking as MR. I am not sure about his abilities to put together a tough good team around him, but potentially the good team MR does have (there are rotten members however) could continue under him.

By 2017 WW will also "mature" more so he might by that time be as capable or better than MR.

Startling revelations on the currency notes recovered from safety lockers

ITN News
February 18, 2010

Minister G.L. Peiris has made some startling revelations about the recovery of foreign currency from the four bank vaults of Ashoka Tillakaratne, the mother of Sarath Fonseka’s son-in-law. Addressing the media today, he said that the 527,000 Dollar currency notes found were crisp, brand new and the serial numbers were in a logical sequence.

The Minister said that 527,000 US Dollar currency notes were found in the safety lockers. What was interesting about these notes was that they were crisp, brand new unused. The serial numbers of the notes were in a logical sequence.

He queried as to implications of this. This is a flagrant violation of Exchange Control Act of Sri Lanka. A resident of this country can possess only a maximum sum of 2000 US dollars. There is strict money laundering legislature in the country. That is absolutely necessary. What is money laundering? These are laws which are enforced to prevent money which has been earned in unlawful transactions, to do with gun running. Money that is made in that way cannot be introduced to Sri Lanka’s economy. Minister Peiris queried as to whether anyone with any sense of responsibility can make a suggestion that with this kind of evidence and considering the gravity of charges that one should turn a blind eye and refrain from taking action.

so the UNP-TNA SAKKILIYAS are going to bash SF now.

now only the JVP stands for gonz.

look at dailymirror comments and MORE importantly the red and green ratings!!!!!

ranil wanted to RECLAIM the elephant and MORE IMPORTANTLY the party. AT ANY COST!!!

he has his reasons. he is the ONLY JRJ clan bugger remaining. with no children too, he wants to hold party leadership as long as he can and hope another heir comes along.

RW VEHEMANTLY protested when lalith and gamini were trying to be the leader but liked it when RP and DBW for this reason.

there will be some BS continuing but the BIGGER battle will be between UNP and JVP to fight for the few seats available to them.

"As a Tamil catholic priest, journeying with the Tamil people on their long journey of liberation, I feel it necessary to make a humble appeal to you at this hour to preserve the unity and strength of your political leadership vis a vis the ethnic majoritarian state and its government.

We are all aware of the efforts made some ten years ago by politicians and journalists from the Eastern Province, to form the TNA in order to keep the Tamil votes solidly behind one Tamil political party. You formed the TNA and won two Parliamentary Elections, the latter a more successful victory with the help of the LTTE.

In spite of many difficulties and even rejections by the Sinhala governments, you all kept your unity with the Tamil people and their LTTE leadership.

After the tragic events of 2009 to wipe out people and leaders from Vanni, you faced the Presidential Election asking the people to vote for a change of government. Though the Tamils were not much interested in the choice between two war criminals, those who voted did only for a change of government. Unfortunately that did not happen.

At present the Sinhala majority and their leaders are fighting among themselves as to who should be the saviour of good governance, human rights, democracy and so on.

We know out of our own long experience, that the Sinhala Buddhist Majoritarian Democracy (SBMD), is unwilling and incapable to understand the genuine grievances and basic human rights of the Tamil people. On the other hand with the 6th Amendment, neither you nor the Tamil people in Sri Lanka can speak openly the genuine desire of the Tamil people for a separate state of Tamil Eelam. This genuine desire as expressed in the Vaddukkoddai Resolution of 1976, affirmed by the Tamils at the Parliamentary Elections of 1977, strengthened by the heroic sacrifices of the people and the militants under the leadership of the LTTE still remain the underlying goal of all the Tamils, even though those within the island are unable to stand up for it."

MD

/are you convinced now that arresting gen kalawedda is a BEST decision????/

Of course, its a good decision considering the country - (just read int. media report BBC etc and international thugs reactions.)

But its not good for UPFA/GE.

If Gonseka is out then we are seeing more troubles among UNP-JVP etc. MR did a favor to RW/UNP arresting him as RW now has no threat for UNP and opposition leadership. MR did a favor for JVP by providing a slogan and a reason to do protests. Further, UPFA will not get benefit of vote reduction by Gonseka mouth as long as he is inside.

/there will be some BS continuing but the BIGGER battle will be between UNP and JVP to fight for the few seats available to them./

Fight seems almost over UNP wining and JVP losing as UNP not agreeing on other symbols other than elephant. But we have to wait until nominations are over.

JVP (or DNA=JVP+Gonseka) will end up <5 seats in anyway. So I don't expect any fight. There may be another fight after GE, JVP losers begging UNP national list slots.

/JVP BLOODY IDIOTS have turned their bell upside down to look like a trophy!!!/

This is good. This resembles their current upside down policies. And apart from poster pasting drinking in a trophy is probably the only thing JVPers can do well.

I see every party and individual trying to maximise their share on GE and only exception is Gonseka. If UNP is willing to give him national list slot why don't take it? Whatever he chose the maximum he can get from GE is ending up in parliament as an opposition MP. Why is he not choosing the easiest way? and instead working for JVP.

Moshe Dyan said...

ninja,

agree with the first part.

"But its not good for UPFA/GE.

If Gonseka is out then we are seeing more troubles among UNP-JVP etc."

not true.

gonzeka was the ONLY unifying factor of these jokers.

UNP willingly got rid of their 62 years sacredly guarded elephant for the first time in history for gonzeka and for gonzeka ONLY.

so if gonz was out, he could have easily mustered support to KEEP IT. nothing to do, just keep it.

"MR did a favor to RW/UNP arresting him as RW now has no threat for UNP and opposition leadership."

half true.

MR certainly did a favour to RW but NOT to UNP.

UNP would have gone to dogs without gonz contesting this time. senior UNP leaders want to KEEP THE PARTY even if they LOSE. gonz in prison is good for them but not for the UNP as a party.

your other questions have the answers here.

why doesn't gonz take the 1 seat and keep quiet??

bcos he wants MORE. he wants to be the opposition leader.

he wants to be the ALTERNATIVE to rajapaksa.

being just another opposition MP is no fun and there is no future.

gonz is certainly more ambitious than nandana gunatileke!!!

Moshe Dyan said...

IF gonz comes out now, he will be bashed MOSTLY by the UNP bcos it has to fight for the opposition vote. UPFA is regularly bashing him and would be a disaster if he comes out.

although JVP will be winning only 10 seats this time, UNP has to be seen as THE OPPOSITION.

the MAX UNP can get is 70. 10/70 = 14%.

still material.

JVP's core votes are ONLY in sinhala areas. and UNP wants sinhala votes for sinhala MPs. after the election MOST tamil, muslim MPs are going to cross over to govt. only sinhala core UNP MPs will remain with a few idiots like mano gona, etc.

this is why the battle for anti-govt sinhala vote is critical for the UNP.

Patriots,

Here is my reading of the MOOD of most Sri Lankans.

They are TIRED of terrorism, and are TIRED of internecine party struggles that compromise their future and their country.

They want rapid economic progress and a security in their lives, and they want a stable can-do government with less political infighting prepared to achieve those goals. Self-serving yelling about Government corruption by people, who were more corrupt than the MR-GOSL when they were in power, just DOES NOT CUT IT anymore. They just don't buy it!

For this reason, the MORE SF's backers, and other opposition parties, try to disrupt and destabilize the country and create mayhem, the LESS the ordinary people of Sri Lanka will like them, and fewer people will vote for them.

EVERYONE in Sri Lanka, EXCEPT the separatists and the opposition politicians out of power, realize that we are poised on the DAWNING OF A GLORIOUS FUTURE for Sri Lanka.

The people realize that they hold the POWER to ENABLE THAT DAWNING in their own hands now, more than at any previous time since independence.

The people spoke with ONE VOICE at the Presidential Election; Their VOICE will be HEARD RESOUNDINGLY AGAIN on April 8, 2010 at the General Election.

The Ordinary People of Sri Lanka KNOW what is in THEIR BEST INTEREST .. only self-serving politicians and separatists are confused about that .. I have NO DOUBT WHATEVER OF IT!

Same sentiments. We still don't see the outcome of SF the imprisoned hero, or SF the released freedom activist scenarios. Everyone is quite right now, does not mean the same after some time.

UNP JVP conflict was in teh cards even if SF was out. UNP was gonna buy SF under RW, and SF was gonna buy UNP under him. JVP was looking for something to cling on to. Had SF been out the creation of UNF wouldn't be this simple, and who knows, there may even be nomination rejections [and alleged slapping].

Nevertheless as we said UPFA is safe and always capable of getting a clear majority. And obviously they [or any other party] can' get 2/3. So the debate is where exactly they land between 113 and 150. I think that has a great significance too for the patriotic forces within the govt. 130 is a better number than 147. Hope you read my mind.

ninja,

according to the official secrets act, the statement need not be a FACT.

10 chain. gen kalawedda is produced in court charged with stealing.

now it does not matter the chain is not gold whereas the intention of gen kal was to steal a valuable golden chain.

same punishment.

however, the judge MAY reduce the seerity of the punishment on the ground of no damage./

Understood the example but may not the point. You mean if Gonz said (a truth or lie) which was not known publicly and related to war such an statement (true or false) will be regarded as revealing state secrets..?

I have another law question. Its said you need more senior officer to arrest/investigate an officer. But SF was the most senior (4-star general) SLA had and I don't think there is more senior officer in SLA senior to SF. How this seniority issue be resolved? Looks like the most senior officer can't be challenged!

I have seen some experts advocating "don't give 2/3". When you go to vote and get your paper if you see say, choices such as 1. UPFA get 2/3
2. UPFA get 1/2 etc one can say so. But you just vote and if you vote for another party or don't vote or cancel vote depending on such total UPFA may even not get 1/2.

With regards to Gonseka arrest, i do not see how JVP or UNP lost out from this.

They are the biggest winners, as Ranil not only gets to keep the UNP, he has another tool to attack Sri Lanka with his white masters (when he and the opposition does badly in elections he will always say its because they lost Gonseka).

JVP has reasons for anarchy and like Ranil excuses for defeat.

UNP/JVP voters who did not vote at PE for Gonseka -those who did not vote at all or those who voted for MR- because of UNP/JVP alliance will vote at GE and with the two separated they will vote for their parties. This means loss of a vote block for Government however also means this block is split between UNP/JVP. But at the same time the UNP segment would have been bigger.

One thing which must be noted is the Government could have let Gonseka "stay free" and go around spilling venom against the country, fulfil his contract as US agent while capitalising on the waves of unpopularity Gona would have generated. They jailed the gona to save the countries image taking the smaller risks that came with it Vs something as big as suddhas bogus "war crimes" the repercussion of which the ordinary people (who UNP just tried targeting using the monks) nation would feel the most. It was a big and mature decision. But i do not think our people totally understand it.

Ranil by far is the top most scum in Sri Lanka, worse than Gonseka (Gonseka takes number two position). He divided the nation and would have let it descend into anarchy if it meant being crowned president at a later date by fielding Gonseka. He tried to use the Buddhist monks to also again divide the nation again and destroy Buddhism in country in one stroke, thus paving the way for his much wanted Christian take over (see what he did in 2002-04). He sold the country out with his "peace agreement" and CFA. He went around the world hoping for our Army to be defeated, the LTTE to win and called for economic sanctions. He went to India and said MR was selling the country to China as a tool against India. He went to China and said MR was selling the country to India as a tool against China. He did the Millennium city safe house raid.
He continues to go around spitting on the country and its institutions (see Economist interview). Even though he benefited the most from Gonsekas defeat at the PE and Gonsekas arrest, he continues to make even more capital out of both like a typical top scum (just like his brain Lasantha and brother Lal where the latter capitalised on the formers death in true Colombian kalu-suddha racist greedy style).
Those who benefit the most from the country and have lives of unprecedented luxury are the same ones who complain the most about nonsensical things which they themselves do not actually experience nor suffer from and are the ones who HATE the country the most.

Back in June 2009 when these scum where accusing us of "war crimes" Britain in the same breath demanded a "full report on Sri Lanka's maritime knowledge and techniques used to counter sea borne threats".

I hope we did not fulfil this "request".

Lying manipulative crooks, what else to expect from decedents of convicts and their cousins elsewhere?

http://www.lankaweb.com/news/items/2010/02/18/bashing-sri-lanka-relentlessly-using-fabrications-the-age-and-sydney-morning-herald-refused-to-carry-the-following-article-by-hld-mahindapala/

Everyone is crying for Gonseka, former “butcher of Tamils” and “war criminal” now “democrat”, voiced by the die-ass-pora too. Something big was contracted with him.

The story lacks coherency and has a bit of tamizh bias, but nevertherless interesting read.. According to this the Sinhalas are related to the Tartars of Russia as well as the Olmecs of central America..

Diyasena that has to be the most crazy screwed up things i have ever read. It makes no bloody sense. Do not know how you got through it.

But i liked this bit:

"Shikalanka (Xicalanca) -- Ceylon. In Tamil, Shikalam."

PolS,

Now the superior race can say that according to Olmec mythology it is a tiger which mated with a tamizh woman..The racist Sinhalese later took the story and changed it into a Lion to claim ownership of the island..

To me the most interesting part is the one about Sri Lanka being larger than India (as shown in the first world map)..

The autor of the article forgets that this ancient Lanka (comprimising of thousands of interconnected atolls spreading from Madagascar to Indonesia), could actually be the real Atlantis??

The Mahavansa speaks of the flood during King Kelanitissas reign when a significant portion of the land was engulfed by the sea..This could be due to a sea level rise not a tsunami..

Moreover I remember, long ago hearing Arisen Ahubudu say that some of the Veddha words (containing some similarity to the language of the Hela I presume),are found in the Pacific islander dialects..According to the legends of the pacific islanders, their ancestors came in boats as well...Did they have to flee as their land (on the Indonesian side of ancient Lanka) was taken by rising sea levels..

We are lucky that a significant part of this ancient Lanka falls in the extended EEZ of Sl (to be confirmed in 2011?)..Maybe as the ITN theme song goes, 'Ravana Lanka Isuru puranaya, golu muhuden muthu mathuwenawa"
