Lies and damned lies
After the crushing defeat of LTTE terrorists last year, the overseas supporters of the terrorists have shifted into overdrive in spreading the outragoeous argument that Sri Lanka was never under unified rule during the time of the Sinhala kings. Whether it is LTTE's Tamilnet propaganda outlet last month(1) or supporters of separatism from days gone by, such as Dharini Rajasingham-Senanayake(2), the claim is that British unified the administration of Lanka for the first time in 1833, and, upon granting independence to the inhabitants of the island, handed this unitary state to a Sinhalese controlled government in the year of 1948.
We as patriots and defenders of integrity of our motherland should always be aware of the true facts with regards to the history of Sri Lanka. The history of the ancient period of Sri Lanka is the history of monarchical rule. Here is historian S. Pathmanathan on the subject of the Sinhalese monarchy(3):
An outstanding feature of the Sinhalese monarchy is its almost unbroken continuity lasting for nearly two thousand years and its close connections with Buddhist institutions. No dynastic state has ever had such a continuity and stability in the neighboring Indian subcontinent from where the culture and political ideas of the ancient Sinhalese were mostly derived. Nor could any of the kingdoms in some of the countries of South-East Asia-Burma, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam — where Buddhism exerted a profound influence, lay claim to such a long continuity and historical experience. The long and unbroken continuity and stability in the political and cultural tradition of the Sinhalese kingdom (s) was partly the result of the protection, provided by the island's insularity, the island's manageable territorial dimensions and the physiographic features which permitted control over a major part of it from a single dynastic centre before the thirteenth century. Another contributory factor was probably the absence of social classes able to challenge dynastic authority
To examine this concept of territorial integrity and unified rule by Sinhalese monarchs we need to examine how the Sri Lankan state came to be formed during earliest period of its history, how it evolved, and the nature of it leading up to the arrival of European powers, the Portuguese, the Dutch, and the British.
Early State Building
According to Mahavamsa, the story of man in Sri Lanka begins with the arrival there, sometime in the 5th century BC, of Vijaya the legendary founder of the Sinhalese. Beneath this charming exercise in myth-making lurks a kernel of historical truth – the colonization of the island by Indo-Aryan tribes from northern India(4). These settlements were established and developed in several parts of the island from about the fifth century BC. The earliest settlers were those on the west-central coast who pushed inland along the banks of Malvatu Oya and founded a number of riverbank settlements. Their seat of government was Upatissagama where the first ‘Kings’ of the Vijayan dynasty reigned. The settlers on the east coast would have moved inland along the Mahaveli River. Somewhat later, there was an independent band of immigrants who settled in Rohana in the south-east, on the mouth of Valave River. The settlers came in numerous clans or tribes. Among these clans were families of nobility, the Lambakannas, Moriyas, Kalingas, Tarachchas, Balibhojakas and others. By 250 BC, there is evidence of a recognizably literate culture in the main areas of settlements – a contribution of early Indo-Aryan settlers – even though the outlaying communities may have remained pre-literate(5).
According to historian K.M. DeSilva it is not possible to draw a firm conclusion on the process of political evolution that led to the emergence of a kingdom unifying the whole island under its sway. The inscriptional evidence points to a situation where Anuradhapura kingdom, which was founded by Pandukabaya, the third king of the Vijayan dynasty, as merely the strongest, among several in the northern plains and in the Malaya and Rohana regions. This structure had not changed substantially during the rule of Devanampiya Tissa, though he held a consecration ceremony, and assumed the title Devanampiya Tissa maharaja. In spite of this, other rulers on the island did not readily acknowledge his sovereignty. The influence he had in the southern kingdom of Rohana was minimal despite the establishment of the Kingdom at Mahagama by Mahanaga, his brother. This collateral branch of the royal house at Anuradhapura eventually unified Rohana and thereafter established control over the whole island as well. It took them a century and a half to achieve it. The key figure in the unification of the south was Kavantissa, during whose rule the authority of Mahagama began to be felt throughout Rohana. His son and successor Dutthagamani took the offensive against Elara, the Dravidian usurper of the northern kingdom, and established control over the whole island. It was, in fact, the first significant success of centripetalism over centrifugalism in the island history.(6)
The classical Sinhalese kingdom of Anuradhapura
The kingdom of Anuradhapura, the classical Sinhalese kingdom, lasted nearly 1,500 years and the city of Anuradhapura lasted as long as the capital city. It was the capital of the island kingdom since the time of King Dutthagamani (161-137 BC) to the end of the 10th century, longevity unmatched by any other capital city in south Asia. The political history of the kingdom can be divided into three distinct phases or periods.
The first phase is the early Anuradhapura period, the kingdom’s first seven centuries to the reign of Dhatusena in the 5th century, the principle feature of which was the rise and consolidation of power. The middle period saw considerable instability, particularly in the 7th century, and the regular entry of Tamil mercenaries brought to the island by Sinhalese kings to help prop up their power, or by the aspirants to the throne.(7) The late Anuradhapura kingdom saw two centuries of political stability, the 8th and 9th centuries, followed by century of increasing stress and instability as the Sinhalese kingdom struggled to cope with external threats from south Indian kingdoms. Those threats became more formidable in the 10th century and culminated in the absorption, if not the kingdom itself, of at least most of it, under the Chola empire(8), while the great city of Anuradhapura ceased to be the capital city.
The Polonnaruva Kingdom
The expulsion of the invading Cholas from the kingdom happened after a long war of liberation and the restoration of a Sinhalese dynasty on the throne of Sri Lanka under King Vijayabahu I. The return to order and authority became solidified under King Parakramabahu I, the remarkable king who achieved such a tremendous amount of constructive achievement in administration, economic rehabilitation(9), religion and culture. After him the only Polonnaruva king to rule over the whole island was Nissanka Malla, who gave the country a brief decade of order and stability before the speedy and catastrophic break-up of the hydraulic civilization of the dry zone. The collapse of the ancient Sinhalese kingdom of the dry zone is one of the major turning points of Sri Lankan history.(10) The Magha’s invasion and the orgy of destruction in which his cohorts indulged is regarded as the main cause in the disintegration of Sri Lanka’s hydraulic civilization.
The Fragmentation of the Sri Lankan Polity and Arrival of the Portuguese
In the quest for safety against invasion from south India, Polonnaruva was abandoned after Magha’s rule and the next three kings ruled from Dambadeniya. One ruler made Yapahuva his royal residence and another Kurunegala. Sinhalese power again shifted from Kurunegala to the central mountains further to the south, a region that has never in the past been a center of civilization. It was in the 14th century that a kingdom was set up in Gampola on the Mahaveli River as its capital. In the second half of the 14th century, the fortunes of the Sinhalese reached their nadir. The writ of the Gampola kings appears to have run in Rohana as well as the western sea board(11), but for a short period in the 14th century, Jaffna under the Aryacakravartis was the most powerful kingdom on the island. They seemed poised for establishment of Tamil supremacy over Sri Lanka, but were foiled in this by the defeat inflicted by the forces of the Gampola kings in 1380(12).
The Jaffna kingdoms’ expansion southwards had been checked, but the Sinhalese had no reason to believe that this had been halted for good. The capital of the Sinhalese kingdom was moved once more, this time from the mountains to the west coast near Colombo, to Kotte. In 1411, Parakramabahu VI began what was to be a very long reign of fifty-five years founded what came to be called the Kotte kingdom(13). His greatest achievement was to check what seemed to be a well-nigh irreversible trend – the break-up of Sri Lankan polity. He was the first Sinhalese king since the days of Parakramabahu I and Nissanka Malla to bring the whole island under his rule, the last ever to do so. Within forty years of his death, the Kotte kingdom, weakened by internal disputes, faced the formidable challenge of the Portuguese in the first phase of Sri Lanka’s long encounter with western colonialism, an encounter that lasted till the middle of the 20th century.
Conclusion
It is not possible to say that Sri Lanka was ruled as united country for a straight 2500 years. No country in the world can boast of such an achievement. However, neither was Sri Lanka always ruled as multiple polities by multiple sets of kings, as implied by the Tamil separatist movement. Certainly, the territory under the ancient Sinhala kings did not remain constant. Some kings gained territory, others lost parts of it. There were bouts of civil war. Subordinate rulers tried to take advantage of this. But Sri Lanka has been viewed as a unified whole during ancient times. That unity may have been in some cases conceptual more than territorial. It may have included only a formal recognition of the sole consecrated ruler, but this signifies an understanding of the concept of territorial unity. It is up to us, the die-hard patriots, to counter this vile separatist claim whenever and wherever we encounter it.

Result depends on ratio rather than total votes. Obviously some people stayed home. So the question is who stayed home as 'net' figure and how large is the difference?
i.e.
Number of UPFA supporters stayed home =x
Number of UNP/JVP supporters staed home = y
IF
x=y => 130+ for UPFA
x 130++ for UPFA
x>y => 130- for UPFA
if the difference is too large UPFA may even lose.

TTBO,
When are we expecting the postal votes?
Common trend is compared to PE to have low voter turn out for a GE just after PE and the winning party to have more % than in PE. Reason is as PE has already decided next 6 years rule so floating voters not interested and losing party supporters stay home as nothing to gain and some switch to wining party but not wise verse. Hope nothing strange happened this time.
Sam,
Postal vote should start coming in around 11 PM. Any idea who is behind the violence at nawalapitiya? I expected Lohan Ratwatte to go on the rampage as he did in the 90s while campaigning for his father. If he has again done so, can expect him to be high on the manape...
Sam, you could be right about UNPers staying away. A lot of them stayed away in 1994 when Sirima Dissanayake replaced her dead husband in the PE, and allowed CBK to go on the rampage and rack up 63%
I agree with Sam, UNP and JVP lost their enegy and enthusiasm after the PE.
Then they were slammed with using lies, computer gilmart, Fonseka's corruption, illegal money in his stash etc etc.
There are many reasons for opposition supporters to get disheartened, but not for government supporters.
Does any of you know whether Wimal Weerawansa voted?
Sam,
About 500,000 postal votes had been received, as reported at the slelections.lk website.
Who they voted for was not given, for obvious reasons.

I fervently hope you are right .. and the UPFA voters went to the polls.
In any case, this apathy by the electorate is very very disturbing, when the dawning of a New Golden Age is at stake!

Another way to judge is to see the post election reaction of the parties.
Their people were at polling booths so they know who came to vote and not.
In villages everybody knows everybody, even their political affinities, so the polling booth agents know who came to vote.
They can communiticate this to the party big shots.
So far no reaction from UPFA.
Tissa A has come out and said the election was full of fraud (daily mirror)
And there is a rumor circulating that election commisioner is missing and there is going to be a massive fraud. Commisioner has denied it and asked people to call his office if need verification.

Brace for it gentlemen, looks like we got it.

Low voter turnout than expected in Sri Lanka general election
ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.
Apr 08, Colombo: Sri Lanka's first post-war polls to elect the country's 7th parliament ended this evening peacefully without major incidents according to the election officials.
However, according to the election monitors the voter turnout was lower than expected in the polls conducted through out the country after the 30-year war. Only about 55% voters have turned up at the polling booths when the polls closed by 4:00 p.m., the monitors said. The election watchdog People's Action for Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL) says the overall turnout was about 50-52%.
The Election Secretariat said the actual percentages will be released after the final result is tabulated.
The General Secretary of the ruling UPFA, Minister Susil Premajayantha said that although the voter turnout is comparatively less than during the last Presidential election, the government is confident of victory.
"The government is very confident of winning the election with a majority," he said.
The opposition parties, UNP and Marxist JVP are hopeful that the low voter turnout may help their chances of getting elected as they have managed to get their supporters out to vote.
Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa, who was elected a to second term at the presidential elections held in January, is seeking a two-third majority in the parliament to carry out his development programs for the country and to bring necessary constitutional reforms. The opposition parties however say the President is strengthening his position to suppress the opposition and turn the country into a dictatorship.
Postal vote results can be expected by 10:00 p.m. today, the officials say. The final result of the 2010 general election will be released by 2:00 p.m. tomorrow.
Ananda I meant based on the defeatist reaction from the UNP. UPFA might have achived 150 seats.
Here are the UNP reactions

Please note that the results posted by both Deshapalua (Matara) and Sam Perera (Ratnapura) are only Postal Votes .. not the Total Votes.
Does the Postal Vote predict similar results for the Total Vote?
I just checked 2010 PE, 2004GE and the provincial concil elections held inbtween
For Matara and Rathnapura districts these are the best performances by UPFA for postal votes, ecept the 2009 provincial concil election.
But the no of postal voters at that time was half as much

desha,
nice comparison.
hope the trend holds true in most parts of the country.
So the reason for increased low turnover is new year...
Every one will go to home town (village) for new year holidays and definitely no one like to go once to cast vote and again for new year after 2-3 days. OTOH, if you want to go early you need to get leave and its hard to get leave for every one.. April 7-20.. 2 weeks leave for every one.. impossible.. OTOH, even if you get leave you need to buy gifts etc and no one wants to go in empty hands to village for new year... And if you need to wait get salary/bonus etc again you can't go..
So this demotivation should work in multiplying effect for UNP/JVP supporters.. As much celebrated UPFA village vote base remains same UPFA may close to 150...
Still.. we are waiting for jokes from UNP/JVP/CAFE...

Is Ranil Wickramasinghe crazy ( really insane)?
Is Ranil Wickramasinghe of extremely low intelligence?
My answers to both of these questions are "firm No"
Does Ranil Wickramasinghe want to gain political power in Sri Lanka?
Though it looks strange, it seems like that he does not.
Now consider these, please.
During the Presidential campaign Ranil assured that MR and the Government ran the war effort and SF just followed MR's orders. So he was pleading with the LTTE and Long Beak Gods to have faith in SF. Then he said he has nothing to do with Karuna's break with the LTTE.
The first statement about SF may be explained by assuming that he was trying to prevent SF's victory.
Then how can the second statement that he should not be blamed for Karuna's break with LTTE be explained?
(Here I am pointing to the fact that he was thinking that if he had contributed to Karuna's break then he had done a crime. I do not think that he or his CFA had any significant role in Karuna's break but Ranil is afraid that some would think that he had committed that "crime".)
Here he is rejecting a vast majority of Sri Lankans' desire to see the end of LTTE. Why? If he wants power why did he do that?
Same applied to Thoppigala story.
Then in this current election campaign, he was said that he asked MR to stop the war when it became very clear that the LTTE was going to be wiped out (After Mulathiv vicotory).
Even if we assume that at the PE campaign he wanted to prevent SF's victory then we need to ask why he is trying to make his certain election loss even bigger this time?
It seems like that he does not want to gain power. He is acting on Long Beak Gods' orders to fulfil their commands and wishes.
Why?
Is he anti-Sri Lankan by nature or do the Long Beak Gods have some thing very serious on him and keep blackmailing him?
This could be the reason if we assume Ranil is niether insane nor dumb and not a natural enemy of Sri Lanka and her people.
This is just speculation. It does not matter what the reason is he is just a traitor.

RW just another politico.. with a luck no one else enjoy..
RW is a lawyer in profession and do you think he can survive as a lawyer..? Being a wise man JRJ knew his nephews future.. so JRJ appointed him as UNP organizer.
1978 RW won as almost every one from UNP won in south. Then luck happened for second time when RP appointed him as 'sabha nayaka' thanks to RP's problem with UNP seniors. Luck happened for third time when LTTE killed RP, RW became VP by default. Then talent came to action.. GD defeated RW even after leaving UNP and coming back.. how incompetent RW must be..? Luck happened for fourth time as LTTE killed GD, RW became opposition leader and UNP leader by default. Luck happened for fifth time when Gonseka ate the rope. RW knew well that MR's victory was certain no matter who is the opponent.
When war was there he opposed war for two reason. 1. He knew if MR wins the war he has no chance to gain power and 2. Advice/ instructions from west/ embassies.
I think now his plan is to keep UNP/opposition leadership until next PE and target 2016 PE.
Only reason he can remain as opposition leader is he is the UNP leader. And only reason RW can retain UNP leadership is UNP constitution. According to UNP cons there are only two ways UNP can appoint new leader. 1. Death of current leader 2. By majority vote of working committee. And members to WC is appointed by leader. And RW know simple math to calculate how many to appoint newly to keep majority for him.
My personal stand is we must never give this country to UNP as long as scum like this remains as leader.

i'm worried about MATARA, GALLE electorates.
there seems to be some MOTHERFCUKERS there supporting UNP strongly. and their fcuking numbers are freaking increasing.
we MUST stop them by WHATEVER MEANS.
no sakkiliyas should be allowed to win an electorate in the south. we MUST stop them by WHATEVER MEANS.

check your email now.
Moshe,
Matara all seats won by UPFA, if i'm reading the results correctly.

Galle has UNP supporters (they voted for Gonseka last time ).
UNP gets votes from Matara and Hambantota because of Sajith Premadasa.
pol,
i'm referring to MATARA ELECTORATE not district.
UNP has scored a fcuking 41%. curse them!
this is INTOLERABLE.
Chaps, what's the full tally of seats announced so far for UFPA vs. opposition wankers? Anybody's got a link where this is summarized?

If you can't beat them, join them. That way we can beat them on their own game. It is about time we put preassure on U.S. and U.K. on war Crimes. I am sure there would be more damning videos of U.S. soldiers that would in to light in the future. We should keep up the attack on U.S. the way Kehiliya did. We need a few more attacks like that to silence the HR guys. Our motto should be 'Yes We Can' (If they can)
Jaffna is better than PA.
UPFA can win more than 1 seat. UNP too. (for obvious reasons, I support both UPFA and UNP in Jaffna)
Nice to see ultra racists AITC getting cornered.
Thusita, the only way to beat the West at their accusations against us is to fire them right back.
This is part of something i wrote earlier on another site, a bit modified:
It must be remembered that immediately after Killinochchi fell it was clear to the West the LTTE was over, there much touted claims of invincibility and "Stalingrad" proved to be empty. It was at this same time out of nowhere did the West and their associated organs such as the UN (Wiess & Pillai), NGOs (ICG, AI, HRW) and media start taking about "war crimes" and "blood baths" long before any conditions for such came into being. What was happening was clear: a "message" was being sent to Sri Lanka to "stop the war or be punished" and thus conditions for "stopping the war" were hastily put together, primarily the creation of a human shield and a humanitarian catastrophe and if Sri Lanka did not play ball "reasons" to punish Sri Lanka for such defiance were thus also there.
The hard reality is the West could not care less how many civilians died or were saved but how to do their best to preserve the LTTE, preserve division, instability and war in Sri Lanka, all pivotal foreign policy tools used to control Sri Lanka. The hollow preaching about "civilian casualties", "human rights" and other "concerns" today are driven out of the desire to get revenge for Sri Lanka’s defiance, for Sri Lanka’s refusal to follow their "authority" and demands of pro-longing the war and enabling the LTTE leadership to escape thereby ensuring their control mechanism against Sri Lanka, the "alternative power", was some how intact (lest we forget the pilgrimage Milliband made to Sri Lanka to make this demand).
Robert Blake, David Milliband, prominent members of the Tamil diaspora, certain UN officials along with Western media need to be held accountable and responsible for war crimes, crimes against humanity and human rights violation in Sri Lanka if justice is ever to be served to the people of Sri Lanka who have suffered at the hands of these war criminals and their assailants both within and out of Sri Lanka.
We don't need any trials or bs like that or even push for such. Just need to discredit and humiliate them. That is the more damaging and NOT that hard to do.
We need to hold the West responsible for the human shield & hence the civilian deaths/misery is their fault. We need to also tie in their open support for the LTTE (Clinton, Blake & Radkumar) and how the West is thus "passively" funding violence and terrorism in Sri Lanka and so any perceived "human rights violations" are their doing.
In the same breathe we need to discredit their HR bs as the bs it is, i.e. exaggerated and made up so as to give a pre-text to punish Sri Lanka because they used/want/like the LTTE as a foreign policy tool etc etc. As well as used to give cover for the LTTE to carry out bombings and prevent our security services from protecting our people etc etc.
Basically a multi pronged counter accusation firing.
Our retard media should really be doing this, instead they play along with the West like the mental slaves they are.
What we really need to do is use pro-SL media (like Adaderana to spearhead such counter accusations) and set up bogus NGOs groups of our own, + our universities to add wight to it. The Government hand must be seen as distant, i.e. not pushing such a move but “assisting” out of “concern”.
my prediction yesterday of matara election result is spot on 65%.
lets wait and see how the others pan out.
my take on ratnapura is 62%.

Hopefully DNAs 5% wouldn't translate to many parlimentary seats.
One good way we can indict the West for war crimes in Sri Lanka is to get Tamils to head/hold high positions/"give evidence" in committees and such who toss the accusations at the West.
Then have Tamil witnesses who tell their tales (being herded into the human shield and have then attack the West/blame them for it for supporting the LTTE/not being bothered about their lives).
Heck we can make it up and not give names "to protect their identities" (which would make the West look even worse –can then have an excited journalist toss in the US Embassy keeps a hit list of people hikz).

Patali Champika Ranawaka
MR likes him, you never know, beside he has mentioned, he need fresh faces.
MR must pay back what he gets from karandeiya.
allocate ADDITIONAL development aid using a formula that takes into account the percentage of votes.
With only 4 electorates to go TNA has only 43% votes in Jaffna..If they are kept below 50% that would be F**K*NG BRILL
Deshapalua asked
"Who will be the next Prime Minister?"
Basil Rajapaksa's name was proposed recently by Mervyn.
However, I hope that temptation will be resisted by MR, and someone outside the Rajapaksa family would be considered for this position.
Ada Deran is speculating Manhal could possibly win in Matara. A big loss, his victory is.

Election wipe out of Sri Lanka's Marxists begins from southern stronghold
ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.
Apr 09, Colombo: Sri Lanka Marxist People's Liberation Front (JVP) led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) failed to win a single seat in Matara district.
From the results released so far the NDA led by defeated presidential candidate retired General Sarath Fonseka received only 20,465 votes from the district amounting to a percentage of mere 6.25The percentage was 6.25.
Mathura district in the Southern Province is one of JVP's major strongholds of the island. It is the home district founding leader of JVP, late Rohana Wijeweera.
Two JVP MPs, Premasiri Manage and Jinadasa Kithulegoda represented Matara district in the last parliament.
Ruling United People's Freedom Alliance won six seats out of the eight seats of the district while the major opposition United National Front (UNF) secured the other two seats.
Former Foreign Minister and the leader of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party - People's Wing Mangala Samaraweera also contested under the UNF ticket from this district.
Preferential votes are still being counted.
my friend ASS (ananda sakkili) is getting screwwed left right and centre.

breaking news.
gonzeka slaps a guard on duty after he went nuts watching election results.
something tells me govt will release the mad dog. he will come to parliament and started barking at ranil trying to become the opposition leader.
fearing for his arse, ranil will do WHATEVER MR tells him!!!
2/3rds??? no problem, boss.
April 8, 2010 8:24 PM
Gonseka has no right to slap anyone and behave like this if he is Army Commander or not. It is stunning this animal was Army commander.
And Moshe MR releasing him is the stupidest thing he could do.
It will look like MR blocked him from taking part in the election etc etc. Gonseka needs to stay locked up (with trial) on going for YEARS.
Releasing him also does not stop being being "cheif witness" to spit venom on Sri Lanka.

we cannot totally scrap the JVP. it has more power than TNA although fewer seats.
best thing is to get them rallied around a new supportive leader. looks like that gonz will get the highest number of preference votes from the JVP islandwide!!! that means bugger will by hook or by crook fcuk that joker who is not in the parliament and become the JVP leader.
Gonseka is coming from Colombo district so does that not mean regardless of how JVP does in the rest of the country it is the Colombo district votes which count and determin if he gets into Parliament. Here's hoping he doesn't get shit.
pol,
ok, i take it back.
gonz should rot in jail.

thusitha,
true, marxism is a curse for the country. but JVP cannot be eliminated. it is a definite political force that will stay forever. the best thing is to take the wind out from the sails. get JVPers into the fold. make it powerless, democratically.
ignoring JVPers is a very dangerous thing.
ignore the JVP party but get the JVPers into our side.

Guys,
If the UPFA wins a 2/3 majority, then MR can amend the constitution to allow MR to remain as president for more than two terms, in addition to changing the parliamentary and electoral systems.
I am generally in favor of retaining an executive presidency, but I am undecided on increasing the number of terms. An executive presidency yields a more stable government that can effectively respond to economic and military threats .. both internal and external. This is important .. because Sri Lanka is not out of the woods yet.
If the number is extended to 3 6-year terms, a president can be re-elected to the presidency for a total of 18 years in office.
In MR's case, he can then be president for 12 more years until 2022.
That should allow plenty of time to set Sri Lanka on the road to prosperity and usher in the NEW GOLDEN AGE. But it also has drawbacks .. depending on how MR's outlook and policies change with time.
Any comments on the extension of the number of presidential terms and the length of each term?
Anand aiya & Moshe,
Re: UPFA in JAffna
It is NOT Dougie's doing..In Kayts/ Urathotha YES..But in the peninsular bugger's behaviour cost UPFA votes..It was apparently the SLFPers in Jaffna which put up a solid showing (Not only Wadugodapitiya but in other electorates as well UPFA is not far behind)..I dunnot what these SLFPer's views are regarding tamil nationalism..
Moshe,
Glad to see you revising upward from 130, but I still think you are too conservative.
I am sticking by my >= 146 seat prediction.

Definitely not. That implies We do not have good leaders in our nation. There should be other leaders who can fill MRs shoes. No one should hold the presidency for more than two terms. We already got people like BR, GR if necessary.
I would like to see people like Wimal coming up in the Rank.
Diyasena,
Jaffna Tamils see the writing on the wall, I think.
They can join the UPFA and get on the gravy train, or oppose the UPFA and die-on-the-wine preaching Tamil Nationalism.
They are practical people, tired of falling behind, who want to get ahead; so many are making the wiser choice.
I am encouraged by this; who knows we may achieve EI sooner than we expect.
Well, here is Colombo-North with non-patriots, bucking the trend big-time!

Parliamentary General Election – 2010

PARTY NAME VOTES OBTAINED PERCENTAGE
United National Party 30,825 60.55%
United People's Freedom Alliance 15,976 31.38%
Democratic National Alliance 3,226 6.34%
I would not mind another MR term (depending on how the next 6 years go -recolonisation being a VITAL issue).
On the other hand, after MR there needs to be a new leader (who will that be?). The power structure and succession for SLFP has not been solved.
Namal needs some years of experience in the political field before getting top job in the Party or contesting for President. I do not want to see Namal in 2016 -assuming MR is steps down then. Think Namal needs more “development” time.
One thing that is a MUST is to remove the damn 17th Amendment.
It is a disaster that if ever implemented will make the country ungovernable.
Monaragala: Unp Got only 1. Hope Madduma bandara is in ;)

What? And i actually believed that.
Shame on you Moshe.
In Australia, it is big news that the government has stopped giving automatic asylum to Tamil Refugees. In a way this is good news, meaning the government is accepting that Sri Lankas HR record is becoming better. The bad news is SL will be stuck with the Eelamist.
diyasena,
true, EPDP scored own goals but their sustained thuggery and violence is what ensured this. ppl and TNA guys were intimidated that they have up campaigning.
also they blocked buses. that's why the turnout is VERY LOW.
pro-govt guys voted anyway.
if you don't believe me, wait for the preference votes.
another CONVINCING evidence is the jaffna postal votes.
check it out.
HIGHEST support for TNA!! this is the MOST educated and well off voters (those who actually voted). also the ones between govt and the ppl.
they gave an overwhelming majority to TNA, higher than any electorate!!! they couldn't be intimidated by EPDP thugs and OBVIOUSLY that is the true reflection of the outcome IF the election campaign was free.
ppl from jaffna tells me that EPDP threatened MOST villagers not to vote. unlike at the PE when army was subbtly against the EPDP, this time EPDP had a free hand.
IF it was was free, certainly more ppl would vote for their own TNA than they voted for gonzeka.
pol,
lol!!
still, it is not beyond the realms of possibility!!!

SL's HR record was never a problem so nothing is "getting better" :))
On the other hand this is bad news indeed.
I have feeling what might have promoted this is the Government saying "we don't give a toss if they leave SL and piss on you".
More Elamoids in Oz/Wests means more problems for those countries and more angry whites with their countries being over run. I fear now this may not be the case :S

Moshe it is unsurprising Jaffna mentality has not changed (it won't, IMO it was "we're from Jaffa" that started this all).
I now pray that MR will not be fooled into thinking there is an "awakening" in the North
We need Colonisation.
It is the only safeguard.
Kelaniya
UPFA 57.91%
UNP 31.52%
DNA 10.18%
Very strange JVP scoring 10% in Kelaniya even with Mervin's strong attack against JVP... May be those hate Mervin gone voting for JVP instead voting for UPFA with no manapa for Mervin..

Now that is what I call a very Imaginative Party name!
Bohooooma Alankarai, Neda?
I wonder what promises are made in the party platform? Rs 1 million per month to each Rajjuruwo, perhaps!
LoL!
attanagalla bounces back from years of nonsense.
negombo has been won.
gampaha district goes gung ho. jayawewa!!
Monaragala UNP
1. Ranjith Maddumabandara 15,000
2. Kumarasiri 14,000
RW ordered not to give preferentials for these two...
Matara
UPFA
1. Jayassoriya 70,000
2. Mahinda yapa 69,000
3. Lakshman Yapa 66,000
UNP
1. Buddhika 50,000
2. mon-gala or sa-gala..?
JVP loosing its customary Hambantota seat is entertaining. Sajith seems to have gained a bit there, which is the only thing for UNP to be happy about.
Ninja;
Are they guesses or results. What is the source? Pref votes this early??
Crap,
DNA might get a seat in Kaluthara as well..
Ninja,
Where did you get the the Manaap results machan?
Wimal, champika, dinesh.. all are safe!

Very likely Kalutara is almost set for 7-2-1
So is Galle.
Monaragala is gonna be 4-1 and P'naruwa is the same.
Predictions based on extrapolations, and it is safe as demographic of social differences of these district are minimum.
Does anyone know the pref votes result site?
Only top three are SMS'ed.
Monaragala Pref result
Oh baby this is fantastic. What a slap on RW's face. He publically asked not to vote for teh top two candidates of UNP.
Now now ponna Ranil. Learn to listen ppl, instead of proving your advice to them.
It made Monaragala a 5-0 white wash for UPFA. Unique...
sk,
you are reading my prediction!!
shitt JVP has a chance in galle and kalutara too.
buggers might end up with a total 10 seats.
this is horrible.

Badulla looks like a 5-2-1 result. it is a surprise place for DNA to win one.
Numbers too close so rough estimates may fail.
DiyaS is it out I mean Badulla.
DNA came so close to win one.
