Me' Jayagrahika Dawase' "Ayu Bo Wewa Maha Rajaneni"!

To the ALWAYS FAITHFUL Patriots,

A Heartfelt Tribute in Gratitude!

Semper Fidelis, Patriots of Lanka

By Ananda-USA

Our Motherland, resplendent Sri Lanka,
Hallowed be thy name!
Thy children flock today to vote,
To preserve thy immortal flame!

The Lion Flag flutters proudly aloft,
To remind us this freedom's day!
Our duty to keep thee, safe and strong,
As our forefathers did yesterday!

A Mahinda Rajapaksa by deed and word,
Strode forth boldly to eternal fame!
To lead his people to a safer world,
When all others retreated in shame!

In Praise of Patriotism

This victory was achieved, because President Mahinda Rajapaksa spoke to the Patriotism inherent in Sri Lankan hearts and minds.

That overcame the traditional "Split the Sinhala Vote" strategies of Anti-National Forces, and upset all of their careful calculations.

The Mahinda Rajapaksa government raised hope, pride and confidence in the ordinary people of Sri Lanka, that they can again become masters of their own fate; that nothing is beyond their capabilities to grasp and achieve.

The MR government demonstrated in the few years they held power, that we sons of the soil of Sri Lanka can TAKE COMMAND of our own problems and SOLVE THEM better than the foreigners who condescend to preach to us solutions that fit their self-serving agendas.

It is that sense of CONFIDENCE IN OUR OWN ABILITIES to achieve, that he infused in the hearts and minds of the people of Sri Lanka, through winning the Eelam war decisively, protecting Sri Lanka with the assistance of new global allies, undertaking a massive programme of infrastructure development not seen in Sri Lanka since the days of Prakramabahu the Great, and painting a vision of future progress and prosperity, that made the difference.

That vision, spelled out in the Mahinda Chintana, will be realized in the years ahead only if we hold together to preserve this able and tested leadership at the helm of this country, that won this massive election victory today.

It is because we Patriots collectively recognized the CRITICAL IMPORTANCE of EMBEDDING and SUSTAINING Patriotism in the hearts and minds of EVERY SINGLE Sri Lankan, that we undertook to create websites such as SriLankaPatriots, SriLankaDefenceForum, NobelPeacePrizeForSriLanka, and LankaWeb, among great many others.

There are those who make fun, for overt and covert reasons, of our collective Patriotism as mere chest-beating. Just ignore them, for Patriotism in the defense of truth, justice, honor and duty to your people is supremely ennobling, and it pays rich dividends in the protection of your country as you see today.

Stable governance of Sri Lanka by National Deshapremi Forces will remain essential to preserving the territorial integrity of Sri Lanka, and fostering its economic progress in the future, as Sri Lanka's enemies continue to undermine it with renewed zeal.

As we see in this Presidential Election, EMBEDDING and SUSTAINING Patriotism in the Hearts and Minds of ordinary Sri Lankans is the KEY to attaining that goal of a stable and efficient Deshapremi National Government.

Helping to maintain that Patriotism will be our continuing challenge as Patriots, where ever we are, in whatever way we can.

Let us March Onward then .. to a LANDSLIDE VICTORY in the General Election in April, 2010!

Jayawewa!

Ananda,

Congratulations on being the one who's prediction came closest to the actual.

Landslide it is, isn't it? In fact if we discount the NE votes (simply because it doesn't reflect the success or lack of success of MR's first term) we do get an amazing margin.

Simply stunning.

Has anybody noticed that even in Colombo-west, etc. MR had gained compared with 2005?

Also there is a powerful lesson in this to Mahinda.

TAMIL APPEASEMENT DOES NOT WORK.

All that "giving" (while taking Sinhala votes for granted almost which is what it felt like) achieved what? NOTHING.

The problem with SL is that 99% people don't know what's happenning around them ,and the threats they are faced. If they were asked what is the problem SL have, they will mention LTTE bombs, and the reason for it is Bandaranaika's Sinhala Only act.It is time our patriotic forces educate them what is happenning outside SL and the truth about LTTE terrrorism and the anti Sri Lankan forces and thier objectives.
And also one International Sri Lankan patriotic body, combining patriots all over the world should be formed. I saw an article of one such a body in lankaweb.

DECOY:

"strengthen MR's hands to fight the economic war."

More wars than that.

International terror against us is NOT over.

Vile propaganda campaign MUST be countered.

Need to launch a major diplomatic and truth delivering offensive to counter the Wests propaganda in SL friendly/neutral countries and places such as South East Asia, Africa and South America. If we tell the truth (going back to European occupation, importation of Tamilia as a military and demographic tool against us, the massacres and genocides against us -181, 1848 and creation of kalu-suddha "world citizen" anti national class to rule us by proxy) they will empathises with us as the same happened to them, and they WILL BACK US.

Currently Western propaganda portray us as essentially them (conquers) which is what turns those regions in the world against us. WE MUST STOP IT.

IMO SL really needs its own World media out let/24 hour news channel broadcast across the world. Government to Government is not enough. We have to reach the masses in these countries around the world. They are in similar boats to us with regards to oppression from the West.

DECOY said...

@pol sambol,

Correct. As you said plenty more to do in this regard. Your last suggestion is a very good one. If we had this facility we could have easily countered Gonseka's false accusation earlier in the day.

Patriots,

This Election was a TOTAL REJECTION of SF by the Sinhala people. SF only won the Tamil-majority areas. He even lost Colombo!

While that may indicate polarization between the Sinhala and Tamil people AT FIRST SIGHT, it is really NOT SO.

Vast numbers of Tamil people (at least 25-30%) supported MR, and they Overwhelmingly rejected the LTTE terrorist stooge Sivajilingam. These are stupendous FACTS!

I think there is much positive news in these elections that augurs good tidings for communal harmony in the country in the future.

For all of our sake, let us PRAY for that!

toiletnet accepts the election results with the usual twist.

"Mahinda Rajapaksa gains a victory of big margin in the presidential elections of Sri Lanka and this has not surprised Tamil nationalist circles. The voters of Sinhala Nation have very clearly endorsed a regime accused of genocide and war crimes against Tamils. Democracy insisting the need to recognise two Nation States in the island is an old lesson. But the new lesson is to the International Community, especially to the West that is slipping for the third time within one year, first in stopping the war, then in human rights action in the UN and now in bringing out a 'democratic' regime change.

hoooo!!!----------->

There is also a lesson to revisionist Tamil polity and media that wasted the crucial time of Tamils by harping on regime change and not concentrating on the own political organisation of Tamil nationalism."

Ranil gets his white masters to help. White masters fail. I love the last bit, who was in power in 83?

SF presidential bid’ masterminded by Britisher
London: A former Tory adviser who was sacked for making a controversial remark about London’s Caribbean population is one of the masterminds behind the presidential election campaign of General Sarath Fonseka.

James McGrath, who has worked for David Cameron, Boris Johnson, the London mayor, and George Osborne, the shadow chancellor, was in Gen. Fonseka’s campaign war-room, at night on election-day, compiling alleged reports of intimidation by supporters of President Mahinda Rajapaksa and advising on strategy in the run-up to yesterday’s declaration.

If Gen Fonseka had won, much of the credit would have gone to McGrath, who has played a key role in sharpening the campaign since his arrival last month. In an interview with The Daily Telegraph, he said he did not have any qualms about supporting Gen.

Fonseka’s campaign, despite the general facing allegations of war crimes relating to his role in crushing the Tamil insurgency.

He said he believed that Gen. Fonseka would introduce democratic reforms, respect human rights and improve people’s standard of living.

McGrath was forced to resign as Boris Johnson’s chief political adviser in 2008 after he said London’s elderly Caribbeans could leave Britain "if they don’t like it here".

His comment was in response to a question on whether a Johnson victory might cause an exodus.

Although he became a political liability in Britain, his reputation as an effective campaign strategist was restored when he masterminded the 2008 presidential election victory of the Maldives opposition leader Mohamed Nasheed. His role in the Maldives resulted in the former Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, the leader of the main opposition group, the United National Party, persuading him to join Gen Fonseka’s campaign.

McGrath helped to draft pledges to abolish the president’s executive powers, restore the primacy of the prime minister and speed up the resettling of Tamils.

"The best way to help countries to grow is to say ‘let’s help you build a democracy’," he said. "I don’t have any qualms about backing an army chief. I’m here on behalf of the leader of the opposition.

"The United National Party is a proud pluralist party, strong on protecting minorities, sometimes to their political cost." — The Telegraph

Another opinion from a different lens.

Hindu Editorial

Mahinda Rajapaksa’s victory in Sri Lanka’s presidential election has exceeded all expectations, including the most optimistic projections made within the President’s camp on the basis of hard-nosed pre-election opinion polls. The 17.73 percentage point margin of win is a reaffirmation of the maturity and good sense of ordinary voters who, given a choice between an experienced political leader in the saddle and an unpredictable adventurer sponsored by an unnatural combination of political irreconcilables, made it a virtual no-contest at the national level. The divergence in the voting behaviour of the Tamil minority and the Sinhala majority was as striking as it was expected; in turnout as well as choice of candidate, they behaved as polar opposites. This gives us a measure of the trust gap in the polity that needs to be bridged if Sri Lanka is to do well in future. Unfortunately, the election was also unusually bitter, with unsubstantiated allegations, personal attacks, and conspiracy theories flying thick and fast and the challenger, retired General Sarath Fonseka, introducing a paranoid note into the campaigning.

Everybody knew in advance that it was the successful ending of the 26-year-old civil war and the elimination of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam as a politico-military formation that had pre-determined the character of a presidential election brought forward by two years. Everybody also knew that Army Commander Fonseka commanded the respect of his men and had a reputation for professionalism — as long as he stayed a soldier. The problem was that, from time to time, he crossed the lines and betrayed vaingloriousness, chauvinism, foot-in-the-mouth disease symptoms, and hints of political ambition. The last thing Sri Lanka needed at this juncture was yet another South Asian variant of Bonapartism, or any more politicisation of the military that we have witnessed in recent months. Instead of waging a good political and ideological fight, the combined forces of the Opposition – the centre-right United National Party, the ultra-left Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna, the minor league Sri Lanka Freedom Party (Mahajana wing), and the pro-LTTE Tamil National Alliance — showed appalling political judgment in lining up behind a candidate whose agenda for change was so vague, so empty-headed, and so self-contradictory that it made no political sense and, in fact, damaged the credibility of his sponsors. It is by no means clear that a serious UNP candidate like Ranil Wickramasinghe would have fared worse than General Fonseka, who is not even a registered voter, in a presidential contest. After this drama, politics in the island can return to a more normal state ahead of parliamentary elections, which are due in April 2010. The hope is that the campaigning will be on real issues, most importantly, a just and sustainable political solution to the Tamil question based on genuine devolution of power within a united Sri Lanka, and revitalisation and development of the war-ravaged areas of the North.

Moshe Dyan said...

now gonzeka is trying to kill MR.

that creates a BIG constitutional bullshit and the country will be in shit until a proper and strong parliament is in place.

fcuking stupid govt should stop celebrating and IMMEDIATELY go for a SNAP GENERAL ELECTION.

otherwise pay the price for delay.

there is absolutely no need to struggle like a madhouse again. go for the easy win and spare the effort for GENUINELY difficult battles ahead.

there will be floods, droughts, tsunamis, violence, tamil elam bullshit, international community bullshit, economic problems, etc.

spare the effort for these GENUINE battles and take the easy GE win NOW.

i get this feeling the DUMB IDIOTS in the govt will never learn.

Sam Perera said...

I second what Moshe proposes.

spare the effort for these GENUINE battles and take the easy GE win NOW.

This is something we could have done in June 2009 instead of those PC elections. Nevertheless, we should not rest and let the momentum die down. Have a GE now when the base is energized and the enemy is in disarray.

Sam Perera said...

One more thing Moshe,

MR better have his team right. Now that we know who was willing to hang on and fight, we should restructure the government right away. MOst importantly, we know who back stabbed too, hint CBK. Good cricketers but useless politicians like AR shall never be considered for anything. Let their political careers die down in katu lewakana balls status.

You are right! MR must stop the lark and get on with the GE and strike while the iron is hot.Our contacts at the booths told us there was enough enthusiasm among the voters for MR.Even if the vote rigging was true to some extent high percentage declared for MR could not have achieved by rigging so this victory is genuine and deserved for MR.Humble people of SL didn't disgrace country by electing a one term President and that's the way I see.
President should be magnanmamus and unite the people in the South, irrespective of their political differences and build the country economically. The county has a undeniable debt problem due to the war against the most ruthless bunch of terrorists and in the light of the people in the North gave little support to this election, they should be made equally irrelevant when it comes to favours and development in those areas and concentrate in the areas in the South first with our meager resources, unless their diaspora give us a helping hand with their vast funds.
So congratulations in order for MR.and good luck.

Read this, it is a MUST.
http://www.dailynews.lk/2010/01/28/fea04.asp

It was Blake and Kerry who bought over Gonseka back in 2008, offering him a green card and bribes and everything else, to topple Mahinda.

Remember the endless discussions Blake had with Gonsek back in 2008?

It was the US who was (as always divide and conquer) trying to find a way to collapse SL from within and they used Gonseka as their agent.

SK told us how the US does when telling us about economic hit men.

The whole coup plot to seize power was planned by Blake and Kerry.

Gonseka had promised to hand over our mineral resources to the US as well.

They knew the masses would never accept Ranil so they found this gona.

We would have been so screwed.
Blake told India to go against Sri Lanka in its war –i.e. keep the country at war (hence their fury at MR/GR for destroying the LTTE and attempt to remove them using bogus war crimes).
Hence why he also went to Tamil Nadu – remember that?

It was India which warned us about Gonseka, shit those numbskulls did us a favour.

Moshe, you must send this GR. It also needs to be printed in Sinhala.

Failing their "regime change" next stage is violence and assassination (then finally failing that invasion). MR HAS TO BE CAREFUL. Gonseka Army deserters may try and infiltrate MRs security detail.

While we are all thinking about GE and economic development and the future prosperity of SL these people are thinking of our destruction. We have got to be carefully and fully aware.

Moshe Dyan said...

sam and kevin,

exactly.

even gonzeka dropped AR!!

a new brand of MBRLs are in the scene. we have to forget petty party backgrounds of them and get the maximum from them.

sam may not agree, but SB and johnston (2 JPBs) did A LOT for this victory.

exceptional performance in kandy and nuwara eliya (although we lost) showed SB's capabilities (among others too).

kurunegala which emerged the gampaha of rajapakshas has among others, johnston.

the logic is this. they are ANYWAY going to get into parliament. and they are just 2. but their efforts can bring at least 3 more MPs each. provided we have the right team, these marvelous organisers can deliver.

PM must be a YOUNGER man who is HIGHY ambitious. but not a rajapaksha.

govt also need a number of women in KEY cabinet positions. this is anyway the govt's plan whether we like it or not.

wimal has shown he is the best when it comes to POLITICAL DOG FIGHTS. he MUST be given higher responsibilities. he is TM DILSHAN now.

(he has to be protected now from gonz thugs).

if we hold a snap GE, we can get as many seats as we can. this gives the opportunity to have INTELLECTUALS from the national list and even get them elected!!

this is VITAL.

if we delay the GE, we have to not only accomodate an all politico team but also there won't be any vacancies for INTELLECTUALS to be brought from the national list.

TC RAJARATNAM is a good choice. but there are many.

there is another advantage. UNP is now hard pressed to restructure. they WILL introduce young blood. these ambitious guys will be FORMIDABLE at the next election in 2016.

the BEST way to frustrate their opportunities is to make the UNP number of seats AS LOW AS POSSIBLE. especially for young ambitious guys.

holding the GE now when the JVP and UNP is in disarray gives a HUGE benefit. that forces the UNP to field "tried and tested" loyal losers!! no chance for the development of young MPs.

JVP has no opportunity to introduce young blood. even most buggers will be out. remaining buggers will do whatever to hang in there.

so this is the chance for the govt to STRIKE BIG and HOT.

if they miss this opportunity i recon we should give up on them. too stupid that they cannot be expected to run the country well.

who knows in that case UNP may come up with promising youngsters who are good mainly in economic stuff and development. with 6 years opposition experience, they will be formidable in 2016. hopefully by then patriotism may not be a priority bcos the rajapakshas would have secured SL fully. IF NOT they fcuking don't deserve anything anyway!!

Pol,

This is a GREAT IDEA; we should forward it to the MR-GOSL.

The GOSL is launching Sri Lanka's own space communications program and proposes to have a satellite launched into space.

Your idea of a World Media Outlet Organization can fold neatly into this Global Communications Effort.

Also, although individual patriots like us have taken up the challenge of countering adverse international propaganda, the government funded embassies have not still moved to organize and combine these separate efforts into a single network that can respond in unison to international threats.

That needs to be done as well.

Moshe Dyan said...

pol,

ok. you can write too using available emails. more the merrier.

"oh! he already knows" is not a good excuse for not bringing things to their attention.

he probably DOES know but in MOST cases our top guys get confusing and contradictory advice. they need an extra REASON to be convinced.

e.g. MiG-27.

how many BULLSHIT was discussed by experts b4 buying this vital plane that best suited the war AT THAT TIME!! (including the contingency of unceasing waves in which case we would have used cluster bombs)

- too old
- MOST users have scrapped it
- no carryweight advantage to Kfir
- no modern avionics
- high rate of engine failure
- 3,000 or so flying hours and then expensive overhaul

BULLSHIT.

mod struggled with this BS coming from top advisors for one and a half fcuking years.

may be true but these are IRRELEVANT to us. we have to compare with what WE HAVE (and what we can afford) and OUR CHALLENGE (and requirement).

finally GR himself made the decision. (thus the blame)

e.g. blue horizon-2 UAV
e.g. "mechanized infantry" hoooooo!!!

We need to re-form our past patriotic warrior culture in a new form. It is a must for stable and prosperous future. Ridiculing our soldiers who gave their lives to defend the nation does not bare well in that frame. Their political service to stabilize the nation under patriots may partially balance off the past deeds. However, they themselves need to publicly regret and apologize for such acts.

And i agree an apology of some sort would be good to hear, though i doubt it.

Gonseka should be on the top of the list forever. He wanted an Iraq style invasion to avenge his defeat. What a piece of venom filled scum. Knowing what he is like he will never stop till SL and Sinhalese especially suffer immensely for rejecting him.

At least until this moment JVP/UNP and Ranil clan has not been dessimated. Their in-fights are not about not being able to serve the Nation but about not being able to crush the Nation.

Even after getting literal boot kicks from Idi Amin, seemingly Mangala, Ranil, Anura and Mano Ganeshan licking the boots of SF (Idi Amin). Reason?

This is not personal for them. They have goal to achieve. to achieve this goal they are ready to recieve more kicks, more filths and eve to shed their own blood.

It seems like, at least at the moment, that they may still see a striking power in SF for the fact that if Ramil contestetd another 10 lakhs would have been added to the majority of MR.

So still the work remains. That was why I advocated absolutely legal and rightful more aggressive campaign against SF.

They took time to deny Apolo rumour, explain Namal's phote with the LTTEer.

They did not use Sf Idi Aministic notions to attack him a logical and penetrative way.

Even with SF running, of Mervin factor managed earlier more firmly, if the campaign was more aggressive (but legal, rightful and moral) easily another 10 lakhs wolud have been added to the majority.

MR's mental courage was substantiated by the fact when he accepted his challenger's resignation so that the people can make the decision. He did not take that right away from the people.

If I had won I would have said "sorry, I cannot do it as the financial health of the country is much worse than we thought when we promised that increase" and while blaming even more than thought MR corruption as the cause of it, I would have said "oh by the way, as much as I hate it, now I am compelled to increase your taxes by Rs.10,000."

For instance, when I would have said "I need to increase your taxes by Rs. 10,000," that measure (for good-of-all naturally) would have been backed up by APCs and MBTs at street corners (well except in the NE state as then they would be having their own APCs and MBTs with a different flag on them).

martial law has been imposed by the new defence minister kudu lal.

new education minister former deserter by the name army kumara declared that sarath fonseka's life story must be memorised by every school child. those who fail to do so shall be expelled from school.

every govt office must have a photo of srimath athigaru ranaweera ranashoora mahathma sarath fonseka and every morning a 2 minute silence must be paid to it. failing it do will result in abductions, said the new public adminstration minister jangi sunil - a former army deserter who was briefly imprisoned for rape.

meanwhile the new finance minister danuna tillakaratne slashed lending rates to spur growth by a staggering 5%.

See, this is what happens when you don't see the bigger picture!

The above is true, except given the gratitude I will always hold for the pro-eelamists for having elected me into power, there would be a picture of Velupillai Prabhakaran too, right next to my own picture everywhere.

Of course, I will order that his picture must always be a size smaller than my own picture (just to make sure I indicate to the rest of the Isalnd of Sri Lanka (i.e. not including the NE by then) that I am still THE boss).

[failing it do will result in abductions, said the new public adminstration minister jangi sunil - a former army deserter who was briefly imprisoned for rape.]

This is true. However, 9/10, the abductees will not come back alive. Likely their bodies would be found, but then they would be found in the NE Tamileelam Nation and if any relatives wanted to retrieve them, then they would need to apply far in advance to the Tamileelam Republic visa office in Colombo and pay the
U$1,000 visa fee.

If they didn't, then I would tell them "so, don't blame me"

In what country does an "opposition candidate" gets holed up (no pun intended) in a hotel? So would not any headline reader not think of the worse (as I noted above)?

Well, this was technically correct when I was the SLA Commander (as you know, I charged anything and everything to SLA expenses, including when I had phone sex with women via my Satellite phone), but he does not have to rub it in by coming up with this type of utterance now.

Ban voices relief at relatively peaceful conclusion to Sri Lankan presidential poll

[Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon briefs reporters at UN Headquarters]

Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon briefs reporters at UN Headquarters
27 January 2010 – Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon expressed relief today that Sri Lanka’s presidential elections have concluded relatively free of violence and he reiterated his call to the country’s political parties to abide by the official results and to pursue any concerns peacefully.

Sri Lanka’s Department of Elections announced today that the incumbent Mahinda Rajapaksa was re-elected President after obtaining nearly 58 per cent of the more than 10 million votes cast across the island country. Sarath Fonseka finished second of the 22 candidates with 40 per cent.

“I realize that the election has been quite a hard-fought one,” Mr. Ban said in response to questions from journalists at United Nations Headquarters in New York. These are the first polls conducted in Sri Lanka since a decades-long civil war between Government forces and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) ended last May.

“I had been concerned at the level of violence during the campaign. I am relieved that the vote yesterday appears to have [been] relatively peaceful, despite some violent incidents.”

Noting that Sri Lankan electoral authorities had declared the results, the Secretary-General appealed to political parties “to abide by the decision and rules and regulations, including addressing any electoral grievances.

“I truly hope that all sides will see the wisdom of acting with restraint and responsibility in the interest of the nation. This would bode well for future elections and national harmony.”

Sri Lanka's defeated presidential candidate in hiding

COLOMBO (AFP) – Sri Lanka's defeated presidential candidate who failed in a bid to unseat incumbent Mahinda Rajapakse was in hiding Thursday in Colombo after warning of possible attempts on his life.

Former four-star general Sarath Fonseka was resoundingly defeated in the country's first post-war election and was then stripped of his 80-strong state security team which he said he needed to keep him safe.

"We have moved to a house in Colombo, but I can't tell you the location for obvious reasons," one of Fonseka's bodyguards told AFP late Wednesday.

In a day of high drama Wednesday that followed a bitter and vitriolic contest between the former allies, Fonseka rejected Rajapakse's victory and said he would mount a legal challenge.

Throughout the day, he was surrounded by heavily armed soldiers in a luxury hotel in central Colombo and he claimed he was unable to leave because he would be arrested or assassinated.

He eventually slipped out unimpeded after dark.

Rajapakse rode a wave of support among the majority Sinhalese population in the south to win the election, but he lost out to Fonseka in the Tamil areas in the north.

The 64-year-old president, who has close family members in key government positions, is a Sinhalese nationalist who ordered an offensive after taking office in 2005 to crush Tamil rebels and their 37-year separatist struggle.

The battle against the Tamil Tigers, who took up arms in 1972, has since been mired in war crimes allegations. Fonseka was the army chief credited with the military victory.

Analysts say Sri Lanka faces an enormous task in rebuilding its economy and is under stiff international pressure to secure a lasting political solution that addresses the grievances of its large Tamil minority.

Rajapakse and Fonseka, who belong to the Sinhalese majority, had both courted Tamil voters during the campaign with pledges of greater political inclusion and investment in the devastated northeast.

"I want to reach out to the Tamil people even though they did not vote for me this time," Rajapakse told reporters.

Profile: Mahinda Rajapakse

"What is important is to get them involved in a truly democratic election process," he added.

"We can sit and talk with them. See what their problems are. We can work together."

Rajapakse also said Wednesday that he was keen to repair relations with Western nations that were strained during the conflict due to criticism of Colombo's human rights record from the US, Britain and the European Union.

"Most of our misunderstandings were due to the fighting. It is over now. I am on my second (and final) term and we can work together to address any outstanding issues," he said from his residence.

Sri Lanka increasingly distanced itself from the West as it came under fire for its human rights record. It has built ties with China and Iran and last year hosted Myanmar's reclusive military leader Than Shwe.

Fonseka said Wednesday that he and the assorted coalition of opposition parties that backed him would challenge the election verdict, making their next step the filing of a petition at the Supreme Court.

But he also suggested he might have to flee abroad because the government had stripped him of his security, which he said was a deliberate ploy to leave him vulnerable to assassination by militants or government loyalists.

"They will try to assassinate me and then blame it on someone else," he told reporters.

Leaving the country in the short-term might be the best option, said the father-of-two who holds a US Green Card that gives him residency rights in the country.

Independent election monitors criticised the abuse of state resources by the government for campaigning ahead of the election, as well as violence on election day particularly in the north.

They stopped short of repudiating the vote, however.

India may give cold shoulder to Fonseka’s protection plea

Giving a reason for the armed forces being called out, military spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara was quoted as saying that troops had been deployed at the hotel on the basis of information that Army deserters were among people present in the hotel. Later the government said Mr Fonseka was free to leave the hotel, but would have to face consequences from allegations he had made during the election campaign.

You can bet they will come out of the woodwork when we are getting ready for the April 2010 Parliamentary Elections.

I have come across discussions they are having as they want to get a 2/3 majority in the parliament and then try to impeach Prez MR through various no-confidence motions.

Sounds far-fetched to us, but not to them...them RW=TNA=LTTE whoredogs are already plotting the next assault on MotherLanka so we need to be vigilant, smart and counter them long before April's elections.

Crybaby:

Tension was high early on Wednesday as troops surrounded Fonseka in the Cinnamon Lakeside hotel in the capital Colombo, recently renovated to take advantage of increasing tourist arrivals on the Indian Ocean island since the war's end.

"These people have surrounded the hotel with military and threatened my security people," Fonseka told Reuters by phone.

Nanayakkara, the military spokesman, said there were no plans to arrest Fonseka but rather to capture around 400 army deserters with him who could pose a potential coup risk.

"They have booked 100 rooms. They are highly trained military people. We are suspicious about their gathering. General Fonseka has released nine deserters to the military police," he said.

Fonseka later said they were part of his security detail.

"If Udaya Nanayakkara says there are 400 people in this hotel, he must be off his nuts. They want to remove all my security," he said.

Fonseka quit the army in November and entered the race with the backing of a motley coalition of political parties united solely to beat Rajapaksa, after he said he was sidelined and suspected of plotting a coup.

In recent years Reuters has shown unusual unbias and factual reporting (unless there is evidence to the contraray of this). They even denied the 20,000 dead crap made up by the Times.

I think their planA now is to not going for GE and instead make a deal with MR on const. change with 2/3 majority and get an extension as JRJ did. MR need to dissolve this at earliest 'suba mohotha'.

/Obama declares 'I don't quit'

WASHINGTON – Declaring "I don't quit," President Barack Obama fought to recharge his embattled presidency with a State of the Union vow to get jobless millions back to work and stand on the side of Americans angry at Wall Street greed and Washington bickering. Defiant despite stinging setbacks, he said he would fight on for ambitious overhauls of health care, energy and education.

"Change has not come fast enough," Obama acknowledged Wednesday night before a politician-packed House chamber and a TV audience of millions. "As hard as it may be, as uncomfortable and contentious as the debates may be, it's time to get serious about fixing the problems that are hampering our growth."/

...........
Sri Lankan denouement

The Hindu
January 28, 2010

Shame to the 40% of Sri Lankans who cast their votes on Gonaeka, a traitor and incompetent fool, did not even know he should be registered to vote—–and he wanted to be a president. Forty percent of a population voting for a man without political experience, a man who recently after declared a war hero got greedy, an tried to cut the hand from which he was eating, in all, a very doubtful character, and so many Sri Lankans never saw it.

Ungrateful people—shame on you. So soon forgotten who liberated the country, and installed peace, which is the way to prosperity. Such a bunch of ungrateful idiots should be prevented to vote forever,—-yes, and that in the name of democracy, because such fools would never know what that means.
We are living in 2010, and Sri Lanka is a quite developed country. Could have been much more if not for Tamil tigers and now liberated by Mr. Rajapaksa, the road to prosperity open, and 40% don't see that. Ungrateful people.

Fonseka cries foul, asks Election Commissioner to annul the polls

ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Jan 27, Colombo: The common opposition candidate for Sri Lanka presidential election General Sarath Fonseka seeks to annul the outcome of the historic post-war poll held Tuesday to elect the 6th Executive President.

Fonseka says the Elections Commissioner, Dayananda Dissanayake should annul the results as there is sufficient ground to do so. He cites lack of transportation for many IDPs to cast their votes, vote malpractices and misuse of state properties as his reasons.

The incumbent President Mahinda Rajapaksa won the election by a clear margin of nearly 18%. President Rajapaksa received 6,015,934 votes or 57.88%.

Opposition candidate General Fonseka received 4,173,185 votes or 40.15%. Majority of the Tamil-dominated areas of Northern and Eastern provinces along with the upcountry plantation sector voted for General Fonseka.

Although there was pre-election violence, the independent monitoring groups say the elections were peaceful and free from complaints of voting malpractices.

Political analysts point out that even if all the IDPs were able to cast their vote, the General's claim does not hold ground as the President's margin of victory is much larger than Fonseka's tally, nearly 2 million votes.

lets analyse the 40%.

SL tamils - 8%
voted - 4% in NE, 4% elsewhere

4%* 60% + 4% = 6.4%
gonz = 80%*6.4% = 5%

muslims = 12%
gonz = 70%*12% = 8.5%

upcountry tamils = 6%
gonz = 70%*6% = 4.2%

total minority = 17.7%
sinhala gonzs = 40-17.7 = 22.3%

assumed pop % of sinhalas = 100-8-12-6=74%

idiots' % = 22.3/74 = 30%

30% of sinhalas are motherdoers!!!
OMG!!

i'm not surprised. we have to bring laws to prohibit anti-SL media WITHIN SL.

some of them will leave SL in 6 years. patriots too will leave but MORE traitors will leave.

e.g.

gonz
anoma
aparna
apsara
danuna
parakrama

somawansa

even vezapillai tried it!!!

eventually we should make SL UNLIVABLE to traitors.

It seems that the white madame Butenis failed in her mission this time illegally changing aka regime changing in Sri Lanka. I believe that Rs election victory is extraa ordinary and f------ will not try the BS for a while. It is very simple, they need to respect the democratic will of Sri Lankans.

I believe that Fonseka's trip to US and DHS war crime calls were all part of the US orchestrated stage drama. Fonseka's intention were clear in his Washingto temple speech. Now we know that he was dealing with Mangala and Ranil long before that. Therefore, those allegation drama could be fake altogether to portray Fonseka not to be another western lackey.

that John Kerry report too was issued well coordinated to camouflage the true intention of Blake the Ape.

The lesson we should learn from this situation is that we shall never trust westerners in our internal matters.

Luckily for us, they have no idea of the passion arising in the hearts of Sri Lankan masses when President Rajapakse is scaled up with heroic warrior kings like Dutugemunu and Vijayabahu. They never will know as long as they try to deal with old doofuses in Colombo.

Way to go.

some observation regarding the PE,
1. Sri lankan people did not show signs of "badagosthara wadaya"

2.MR has done well even in multi ethnic electorates (but not good enough to win)-how ever it shows that there are moderates among such communities.

3.Majority of Sinhalese not divided

4. Minorities did not decide the outcome

5. TNA, SF's public filth,SF's double strandedness-contributed to his land-side defeat in short he talked himself to defeat

6.hardcore opposition supporters, tamil tiger supporters, those who down right hate MR (for reasons known only to them) were the ones who voted for Fony.

7. Kalawada happens to be the most famous animal in sri lanka- thanks to fony we must work to protect all Kalawadas --this species could have become extinct along with the deer and wild boar population had SF come to power.

Until the very last day of the PE, he was supporting SF. At least Mahen shed his wolfskin well before the stand-off at Mullaitivu.

[[Given that the Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim populations of the East are approximately equal, I expected more votes for MR from that area, and was disappointed with the votes he received.]]

I was not hoping. Take me for a racist [as a socialist would say] I doubt how loyal the SL minorities are for one SL. I believe they still think otherwise. The lull of cheap politicians never gave them a reason to force their minds into one SL.

every grp of ppl in world has aspiration. Even a village would like to stand independent with Self D if they are allowed. The union of a nation should be felt and needed due to circumstances. US had its own share of this in 1864-48.

SL tamils were a toddler race that was looking around where to call its family. Many opportunist once again poisoned them. The poison will remain and soon come out.

In this election I am most concerned about east. It shows clearly taht both karuna and Pillayan have lost teh hold of teh ppl. And that leaves a complete void in leadership [Shitgeetha is not a major leader as yet]. Anarchy is teh first sign of terrorism.

And note taht in East there are so many gun-owning [didnt mean they carry them] non-rehabilitated terras. We kept them such assuming that K and P have a hold on them. If that is broken, well there is a risk.

Also note that Eastern jungles are relatively harsh and have better access to SL. If pussycats are reborn, there is no better hatching ground than those.

And does GOSL see it? I wonder.

With regard to the East on top of what you have said, the West and their NGOs have been busy busy.

Only thing going for us is that the current generation of Tamils does not want to fight.

We MUST do C+EI starting now.

Also need to do a census in the North before GE. The electoral list needs to be updated otherwise once again you will see an over representation.

Ananda Aiya,

Sinhalese are around 25% in the East and a majority of them are in Trinco and Ampara..Seruwila and Ampara, which are the 2 Sinhala dominated electorates went to MR as expected..All Tamil and muslim dominated electorates went to SF

The JHU's proposal had a good idea behind it,

1. Reconstructing all ancient temples in NE

2. Putting a priest or 2 in every temple

3. The priests and the temple need to be looked after, give 5-10abiththayas some land to plough and build a house..

4. The advantage is all ancient temples have a wewa nearby..Bring some workers to reconstruct the wewa as well..

This is happening at a minor scale..But if done in an organised manner would help with EI

Diyasena said...

And for F***s sake bring the ancient Sinhala names back..The RDA has recently renovated all the village/ town name posts in the east (dunno bout the north)..

Let the tamil name be in tamil..But put the Sinhala name in Sinhalese..
i.e. Omanda = Omanthai
Puhul-motey = Pulmoddai

And put up signs describing the history saying how the Sinhala name came into being (Tamilnut does this)..I have no qualms with including the tamil version as well..

This will give the people (especially the children)
from the south a sense of belonging..Or else people in the future will think these as originally tamil with time..

Me reckons THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT
But somehow this has slipped the radar of the JHU and others..

Ananda,

With regards to a world media out let. It cannot be State controlled.

For example Ada Derana is pretty good (they should move their damn bathroom adds before the headlines not after though lol).

A private, patriotic media which fights Western imperialism and Western lies/propaganda against our people through excellent programming (giving "history lessons" on first the countries the channel is broadcasting in, then once established credibility do the same on SL) and news bulletins, getting experts to show the lies of Western media and their twisted one sided reporting. For example the Channel 4 video, had a private media punched holes in it the way the Government did, but entirely by themselves it would have been awesome. But as we have seen even patriotic media in SL, just wait with their mouths wide open when the West makes bogus accusations until the Government responds. They should take the initiative and do the countering themselves.

Setting up such a channel should be private, however the Government should extend funds+support, and ensure no interference (like no endless mug shots of MR :) )

By the way Channel 4 video war is not over. What all those liars and cheats ignore is the ORIGINS of the video. They have not asked JDS to give it to them to hunt down who filmed it/identify the perpetrators. You'd think if they were serious that is what they would do but its obvious the whole reason behind that ambiguous bogus video is to attack Sri Lanka not find the truth or justice. The truth would expose them and their deceptions while delivering justice to victim nations and people like SL.

WE MUST get to the bottom of it. A lot of crap against SL will stop once we remove that bs. Should also include how Blake/US told LTTE to create a human shield (conned SL into then calling it a civilian zone) to create a humanitarian catastrophe to save the LTTE/LTTE leadership and continue war in Sri Lanka when their Tiger pets had failed to deliver. It will prove that SL was the only one who was actually genuine in its efforts to save civilian lives as we saw, while the West is not (then back it up with their behaviour in Iraq, Afhan, Vietnam).

Diyasena,

Apparently MR/Basil were reluctant with such because they "wanted to win the trust of Tamils" and all the rest of that jazz.

When will Sinhala leaders LEARN that TAMIL APPEASEMENT does not work.

Reaching out, forgiving/forgetting, moving forward, TOLERANCE, are all Sinhala attributes. THEY HAVE BEEN ABUSED by all and sundry.

According to an Indian paper MR AGAIN wants to "improve relations with the West"??

WTF! Has he not realised that the last time he tried that they gave us the Channel 4 video, and two bogus reports against us (EU/US report).

Tell him to stop. They are not going to give up on regime change or "accept" him.

No "hands of blind friendship" and "we should move one" (Time Magazine interview with him and answer immediately after the war in 2009 when asked the question about the West being against him and trying to stop the war etc).

They will not give up or stop trying to oust him. I am not saying he should ignore them, but the only way "relations will improve" is if he dances like a good monkey to them, jails the entire Armed Forces and gives a Tamil separate state.

Need to approach with extreme caution.

We must do EI+Colonisation now. The benefits are huge. It will give land/wealth to poor farmers and others in the South. It will solve/improve our food problems therefore cost of living issues will go away. It will give a gaurentee against any devolution being used to seperate the nation.

All of the above will give MR endless VOTES -why can he not see that? CoL going down and good food supply means opposition cannot play that card, fact MR brought it down gives him credit. So long as Sinhalese are in the North and East devolution crap can be defeated AND if it is introduced Sinhala presence will ensure no seperatism. Sinhalese in the North and East in large numbers will reduce Tamil hatred/propaganda against us to an extent. Sinhalese will be grateful to MR for putting them there/giving them oppurtunities they will always vote for him.

No more short term thinking. Time to think deep into the future, when the potential for a spineless coward like Ranil to come into power (he/she may act all patritoic to use to win but will cut secret deals with the West and lie to the nation about it like Ranil and Gonseka just did).

Gen Fonseka has rejected the results and vowed to challenge them in court.

India congratulated the president on his victory, but the United States said it was "withholding judgement" on the result of the poll.

The US embassy congratulated Sri Lanka on its first post-war election, but urged the authorities to probe any ballot irregularities.

"We urge a thorough investigation of these allegations," the embassy said in a statement. "In addition, we urge the authorities to ensure the safety and security of all candidates."

Bugger, how hard it must be to carry this white man's burden, you know the Eurocentric view of the world, in which non-European cultures are seen as childlike. It is apparent from the US embassy statements that white people have an obligation to rule over, and encourage the cultural development of people from other ethnic and cultural backgrounds until they can take their place in the world by fully adopting Western ways.

Cheers!

My comment to mahen's post in EFT:

-----------------------

Ragu;

Many may disagree with what I'm gonna say. But even today, general SF the commander of SLA is a hero in my heart. Yet the retired same is a traitor. What matters is the presence and future.

However, seeing everything I disagree with you for many of your comments of SF's contribution in diff areas. SF is NOT a disciplined, and organized man. He's an exceptional individual with eccentric nature and extreme talents in some areas.

His conduct of war was not disciplinary. But he knew the context jolly well. By being non-disciplinary and talented he won it in most unconventional manners. Still there are claims of unnecessary pressure and bad practices such as Muhamalai etc. But he won it. What needed to combat the unconventional LTTE was the same kind SF.

When there were matters of cordination communication management discipline it was the other hero the great GR who forced his powers on eccentric general to retain sanity. It is a team effort.

Mahen can comment further on this.

Nevertheless, the eccentric extremes of SF fitted the war yet not civil service or politics. We were saved by a whisker [of 1.9million voters] that he lost.

I wish taht he will not further step towards traitorous path, but realize repent and try to remedy what he did. And taht of course if he hasn't done enough to end up in jail.

Mahen's message of reconciliation is good, but the bulk is in Fonseka's court. He has to play his role in a big way and come back teh distance he walked away from national interest into the enemies hand. That, first by humbly accepting it.

If I had a way to convey this message I will be telling this to Fonseka first. Therefore Mahen, try pushing this through your immaculate contacts towards to SF. If you can bring him to understand the calamity of his actions and regret it, you have done a great service.

Mahen the small ball of this gigantic game is in your court. Worthy trying than waiting and hoping.

Sujeewa Kokawala said...

[[So sinhala people did 'kalaguna salakeema'. Some thing to be happy for me.]]

Not purely this. In fact little spoken is the development Mr brings. I believe there are some quite a significent vote base tat would have considered that in equal levels.

For an example, have a look at teh list of "corrupted projects" listed by SF propa. And check yourself ion each, how much is delievered. Then you realize taht no single leader has done development projects of this scale. JRJ was primarily known for Mahaweli. Compare today with that for teh size and outcome.

Some more, the foreign policy is another factor.

Well, you guys may have missed one factor, the contribution from people who refrained from voting since they won't believe in politicians but cast their vote for MR this time around as gratitude. Something has to be done about this Alston and his Channel 4 video.

We must hunt down JDS and the original video. The fact they have ignored its origins is proof enough that this is them executing our soldiers and making propaganda videos out of it to be sold in Tamil "cinema" in the West (they have done that before). The history behind JDS, run by that twat booted out from FMM who hates Sri Lanka and Sinhalese is of significane. He had/has major contacts with the LTTE. He also was there barking at Geneva in 2009UNHRC meeting about "war crimes".

He "fled" from Sri Lanka to avoid being jailed for tax evasion. We need to, if possible, "white van" this particular piece of scum wherever he is hiding be it Zurich or Berlin.

Polls chief objective and impartial, say observers

A visiting international polls observer group yesterday endorsed the Presidential election saying the "whole exercise was done in accordance with the law of the land".

Election Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayake had acted with objectivity and impartiality in conducting Tuesday’s poll, delegation leader Dr. Pan Wei Ta told a press conference in Colombo.

The head of the election observation mission also said that 41 observers from 13 countries had been fielded in 22 districts to monitor the whole process since their arrival in the country on January 20.

He said the observers, representing the Association of Asian Elections Authorities, did not witness any significant deviation from the procedure as mentioned in election laws by the Returning Officers, while making preparations for the conduct of a free and fair election.

Dr. Pan also said the Elections Commissioner had issued necessary instructions to all Returning Officers to provide requisite security to the observers and facilitate them in the observation of the whole electoral process covering pre-poll arrangements by the Returning Officers, polling and counting of votes.

The commissioner took personal interest in making that short-term observation mission possible, the delegation leader added.

He also pointed out that the polling agents of candidates had been allowed to accompany the ballot boxes from polling stations to counting centres and no mentionable irregularities were reported in that regard.

The counting process started at all places after receipt of all the ballot boxes that were assigned to a counting centre, according to the observers.

On polls day, all relevant materials including the ballot boxes and cubicles had been made available in the polling stations and all procedural formalities completed by the SPOs before commencing the actual poll, added the mission chief.

He added: "I may mention that the election was held under the Presidential Elections Act no 15 of 1981 and the observers were able to see the whole process in the light of the provisions of that law. They did that and have reported that from the initial arrangements for the election till the conclusion of the counting process, the whole exercise was done in accordance with the law of the land." Further they have black-listed my passport and have been summoning those close to me, including my-son-in-law to the CID,” he said.

Former army chief Sarath Fonseka on Thursday announced that he would contest the upcoming general election in Sri Lanka. He said that if he did not contest the election, it would let down the people who voted for him.

Fonseka said he was yet to decide the place and political party he would contest from. ``Yes, otherwise, I will let down the people,’’ he said when asked about his candidature.

The Sri Lankan government is likely to dissolve the current Parliament soon and call for a general election as its tenure is coming to an end. The new 225-member Parliament has to be constituted before April 20.

Fonseka, who early on Thursday moved to a confidant’s home from the five-star hotel where he remained holed up on Wednesday, told the media that his life continued to be in danger. Sri Lankan military personnel, many of them wearing gas masks, continued to stand guard and monitor roads around the retired general’s new home.

This is not a serious threat, yet it is evidence that UNP/JVP has lost the clout and needs a rapist Idi Amin to back them up and SF has not yet politically decimated to dust. Decimated but not to dust.

If another 10 lakhs was recieved in majority then this would not have happened. Even though this is not a problem it will generate noise, ie distractions.ummen

And surprisingly they have found nothing wrong with them and their stupid candidate..

BTW, EC is in service due to court rule from then chiefclown and he is now in service 8 years after his retirement age. Hope MR find a solution possibly after GE for EC post.
