1 SF encircles Cinnamon Lakes. Why do we need our elite First Special forces regiment to guard a hotel?

Hurrah for the fourth international. We can now hope of one Trotsky-socialist republic for the entire world. Comrade Wikarabahu reaches double figures

He had to wait till three postal votes being announced [4,4,2]. Tough path, but the right one he'd say.

The small and unimportant matter is that MR is ganing nearly 70% and out goes the 10000 Fonseka Dollar increment to govt sector.

Sam Perera said...

SU,

I supported MR and PA all the way. Regardless of his recent political work, he worked tirelessly to save me and my motherland. Therefore, I expect them to treat General Fonseka with all due respect and dignity.

"Australia’s Liberal link to Sarath Fonseka campaign
January 26, 2010 10:57 pm

A Sarath Fonseka-led government would help stem the tide of Sri Lankan refugees seeking asylum in Australia and boost investment ties between the two nations, according to Liberal Party deputy federal director James McGrath.

Mr. McGrath has been quietly working on the Sri Lankan opposition coalition’s campaign since December, conducting focus polls and conceiving the 10-point pledge that has helped catapult the country’s former army chief into a winnable position.

“The best way to stop Sri Lankan boatpeople turning up on our shores is to have a stable government that’s addressing the concerns of Sri Lankans,” he said yesterday.

“That is providing basic services (housing, schools, hospitals) and I think all sides of politics in Australia, without interfering in internal politics, would like to see that happen.” – (The Australian)"

SF is a person who should be in jail for life.

SF's contribution to war was just being a killing machine (mad bull) not being a military mind.

He has put National security at peril in many different ways in many situations wven during the war.

So this is the source of believable Change

----------------------------------

When Fonseka2010 first started in November, I pointed out that they are using Barak Obama's slogans.

It became apparent as the campaign went along, they had no real slogan but just copied Obama campain shamlesly. Even SF's manifesto belevable change is from Obama campaign.

SF campaign had nothing to build on, they just based it one lies, hatred and Obama.

Here is a good read.

Sujeewa Kokawala said...

Let's talk about SF's future once we have a substantial vote count.

Not really undermining, but for teh record.

Just re what some of you say, following is my take.

Provided SF looses

RE: SF the patriot

He was. He changed it. He can always change back. It depends on what fits his next agenda. As you can see SF values private goals more than patriotism. But I believe he can contribute something patritic if he is in teh right place

RE: SF's departure

.. will turn him a traitor. It is the only position a departing SF is left with. WOrk for pussycats like Chu-nanda Desha-Apriya.

RE: SF's political future

SF has a valued vote bloc. MR knows it. And I will not be surprised if MR tries to get Sf in his fold.

RE: SF the JPB, and his deserving jail term

Deserving, but unlikely. He's a voted election candidate. Nobody will take teh risk of defamation. Plus, after this election he's more valued for MR than others.

JPBs in either side, JPB is not a reason to join govt. Nor is joining govt a reason for us to cancel the JPB notation.

He self-confessed for some of these things. Everone should be answerable in front ot law.

To take a country forward law and order should be established. Rapes and brutalism should not be tolerated.

Again if these accusations were not true then for misleading voters, the MR camp immediately should relinquish their power.

Please, Do not try to apologise for SF.

It is a fact that even though he was a killing machine he did not contribute much to the war other than unncessary property and life loss by taking egotistic risks.

He established a military regime in 2009 July in Ambalangoda for a short duration.

I do not say something that I do not believe in just to win an election. That is also a crime whether it is agianst MR or SF.

Friend, here is a tip, look for those small SLFP dominated electorates that get counted early, like Dompe, Hakmana, Balangoda etc. SF doesnt have to win those, but if he can cut the gap that was present between MR and Ranil from 2005, look out for a tight race, if SF cant close the gap in these SLFP electorates, he better book flights.

Thanks for the link, I read your posted article written by සී. එ. චන්ද්‍රප්‍රේම(though I have already read it from Divaina).
The first article that I read from this man is about Lasantha Wickramathunga's killing, at that he is so furious and so critical about MR, and what I thought is another blatant pro-UNP writter,
but when I started to read more on his articles it seems I was totally wrong in judging him.
When it comes to exposing SF's dirty campaign this man should get a lot recognition as a writter. His writings seems to be very logical and well directed.
I recently viewed a Youtube video this man participating in a morning TV show on current political situation analysis and he is exceptional.
As far as I know this writer සී. එ. චන්ද්‍රප්‍රේම, writer articles on English primarily, but I don't whether the articles on Divaina are translated by somebody else.
We need more writers like this man than blatant biased writers such as Mahinda Abeysundara, Upul Joseph, etc.

Government mulls challenging Fonseka's candidacy for president in the Courts

ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Jan 26, Colombo: Sri Lanka government is considering to challenge the candidacy of the common opposition candidate General Sarath Fonseka for the presidency in the courts, Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama said.

It has been revealed that the opposition candidate is not a registered voter for the first presidential election after ending the war in the country.

"We are seeking a court order on the suitability of this candidate because he is not eligible to be declared as a candidate," Bogollagama said addressing the foreign media.

The Minister said the government is seeking the legal avenue to rule out Fonseka from the race despite the ruling by the Election Commissioner that a candidate need not be a registered voter to contest.

Bogollagama said the government would challenge the Election Commissioner's opinion in the courts as the courts have the ultimate authority to interpret the law.

SLA, SLN, SLAF and police personnel never get to vote.

it was smoewhat good this time because a LARGER number of them had registered for postal votes.

earlier VERY few were registered for postal votes and ALWAYS there is some violence and these guys cannot vote on the election day.

but even this time more than half the total number of personnel didn't register for postal votes.

next time govt must ensure ALL service personnel are postal voters.

.................................................

having said that the performance of postal voters has been a beauti. SLG thinks postal votes have been rigged!!!!

things could have been twice better.

if all service personnel were given a chance to vote, along with other postal voters, their lead will nullify north east traitors lead to a big extent.

Because postal votes account for the entire district, the only difference between postal and walk-in votes for the disctrict should be:

1. Impact of campaigning after Jan 10th the postal voting deadline. This period .. in my admittedly biased view .. went against SF.

2. Income level .. richer folks voted by mail wanting to avoid waiting in queues and possible violence. My assumption is that the non-postal voters are more likely to support MR.

In both cases, the advantage seems to be for MR, and the sum total of postal and walk-in votes by district should be even better than the postal-only vote for MR.

Can you point out any flaws in my admittedly simplistic logic?

I think, according to the constitution, one can contest given that the person is a voter.

But being a voter is defined as

Above 18 Years

Not being jailed in last 7 years

To contest for Presidency one has ot be over 30.

It is possible that SF can contest according to the constitution. (one needs to go through all the other clausees, So then Suprem court will decide if necessary)

In that case I think that the Government was not aware of this issue(reversing my previous issue. since it is still not guranteed that SF cannot be President even if he had won.)

The 600 hundred armed people who are surrounding the Hotel( SF is hididng) seeme to be SF's Army Desserter thugs. This tells all.

I am curious to see whether the Wanni voters, who largely supported the LTTE, remember the torture they were put through by the LTTE in the last days of the war, and will vote for their Savior MR, rather than SF or the LTTE stooge Sivajilingam.

Who the Tamil people vote for in this election will tell us whether they have abandoned the separatist cause and want to live peacefully aS EQUALS with other Sri Lankans.

Let us hope SANITY will prevail.

People are tired of Fonsekas flip flops

First he said Gota ordered weapons after the war and he disagreed then he said he ordred weapons Gota disagreed.

Video

He said Gota ordered them to be shot, then said he was misquoted and then again said Gota ordered shooting.

He says he is against corruption, but promised the tax frauds of Golden key company they will be repayed with governmnet money, and declares that no fraud has been committed even when the court has decided a fraud has been committed.

Listen to his Sirasa interview, no plan to develop the country, no vision, no idea on economy, jut spewing hatred against Gota and the Rajapaksha brothers.

JVP says Fonseka will abolish executive presidency, Fonseka says he will not be William Goppallawa, Ranil says he will be executive prime minister, Fonseka says nothing.

He has lot his credibility, its all downhill from here.

The difference will be a million votes

Yes I said it first.

However, there was no reference to Article 92 of the Constitution, which says:
"Every person who is qualified to be an elector shall be qualified to be elected to the office of President unless he is subject to any of the following disqualifications––
a) If he has not attained the age of thirty years;
b) if he is not qualified to be elected as a Member of Parliament under sub-paragraphs (d), (e), (f) or (g) of paragraph (1) of Article 91;
c) if he has been twice elected to the office of President by the people; and
d) if he has been removed from the office of President under the provisions of sub-paragraph (e) of paragraph (2) of Article 38. (Emphasis added)

What does the subordinate clause with a restrictive relative pronoun, 'who is qualified to be an elector' really mean? Does it also mean that a person who is not disqualified to be an elector as such but is not qualified to be an elector at the presidential election contests because he is not registered for that purpose shall be deemed qualified to be elected to the officer of President?

We do not intend to split the atom on this score and leave the interpretation of the Constitution to the learned judges of the Supreme Court. But, we believe that Article 92 is bound to figure heavily in future discussions on this matter.

Whatever the legal position on Fonseka's vote may be, his campaigners should not have tried to take the media eager to cover the casting of his vote, for a ride. They kept on saying that Fonseka would vote anytime and photographs of that event would be released to the media immediately afterwards. That was a big lie!

It was only after the situation got out of control with their rivals having a field day that they were compelled to come out with some explanation. If they had had nothing to hide, they should have come forward much earlier, reassured their voters and sought to put the matter to rest.
