Already today I saw an article from BBC where the accusation was the elections was not "free and fair" (this is even before any results were out; must be based on some informal "exit polls" done by pro-RW-TNA-LTTE-SF kooks).

I think it is time to assign SF to the dustbin of history and move forward. The GE that is next is so important. MR should be given a team that can work. This will be a good opportunity to get rid of the JVP, which has been so destructive in the past. Also hope the UNP will get rid of RW and his click and be a serious democratic party. Other corrput inefficient elements around MR (Mervin et al) should also be thrown out.
Forgot... wipe out TNA too and the SLMC, and Ganeshan.... no more room should be left for racist politics. I would be happy to see the end of priests in parliament too. Others may disagree.

Mate, I am all for getting Rid of JVP. This is one of the most important tasks that Patriotic Sri Lankans should do. Also as I have been saying over an over, we should not allow a party named JVP to contest. That name belongs to a Terrorist Organization and it has brand power that comes from Terrorism.
After this election, no one can say JVP is patriotic. They supported a whore dog who made pacts with TNA. These guys should go to the political dustbin of Sri Lanka.
The JVP still has an armed element. Even the government has struggled to keep tabs on the part of the JVP. The real leadership of the JVP is not Somawnsa et al. If this is the case, then this shows that the people don't think it is an election between two rivals, but rather a struggle between good and bad and the good won.

Only thing we should remember is we screwed up twice. Once putting barb wires around Tamil Refugees (which could have been handled bit better) and second Thissanayagem case.
So what ever do, GSL should clearly think before acting. Should only arrest him, if SL can with stand the criticism and also if the government think they can follow it through to the end. Therefore please don't take half measures. Act wisely.
The Elections Commission declared Mr Rajapaksa the victor with 57.8% of votes cast, to 40% for his rival.

I said it "seemed" as opposed to "was" rigged... we are talking optics here and I claimed nothing as a fact in this regard if you bothered to read me carefully.

The state media were complicit in propagandising on MR's behalf, the government shut down certain news outlets on the web and they have now surrounding the defeated candidate who they have claimed to be a traitor... not to mention a number of irregularities in and around polling stations.
Go figure.
Rigging an election is more (or can be more) than just stuffing a ballot box and the GoSL did much before the voting to unduly influence the process... this qualifies as rigging.
MR is a corrupt politician who has spread the wealth of the land mostly between his friends and relatives. This is a widely documented fact. If he is capable of such clear and palpable misconduct on one hand why not the other?
Let's revisit this in a few weeks when the General (Rtd) is sitting in a prison cell. As usual, my suspicions will be validated by poor decisions coming from MR and his cronies.

What is so suspicious about SF sitting in Prison Cell? He he is suspected of a crime and proven correct, he should go to jail. Is there something wrong with that? He is a highly visible candidate and he will be put in jail only the charges are solid.

If the mass turned against a president, how ever much state media campaigning can stop the tide against the government. If they felt it was unfair, they should have boycotted the elections. If you decided to contest knowing that government media was campaigning for MR, then it is your problem. No sour grapes please.
Also,
you know what will happen if they hold the election again, don't you. The loss this time would be much worse, since now people would know he is going to loose for certain. The second thing is that people know he deceived them. Thirdly government would contest SFs ability to stand for election.
SF has cornered himself. There is no way he can win the next time round.
