Even Srima Dissanayaka got 30-%. RW got 50-% despite very obvious deal with west+LTTE which could have lead to a confederation. The real game this time too is between nationalistic camp lead by MR and anti-nationalistic camp lead by west (USA/UK/EU).

This is the link. Only Ministers have said that 5 lakhs of votes will be reduced. MR is in agreement and he was very crossed with Mervin as it was claimed.
Sorry that inadvertantly I have put the ownership of the words to MR himself but since he has not denied it MR should have the same assessment has other Ministers.
rana,
certainly.
this snake is going to land the country in deep trouble even without winning the election.
Moshe,
I recently talked to a soldier from VIR who was providing security to that infamous meeting in the north where Ranil shouted poda, poda, poda. He said that it was very funny to watch seeing the locals leaving the meeting when Ranil shouted poda, poda. The poor locals have thought that Ranil has asked them to leave.

Mangala Samaweera the scum is incurable. He uses every opportunity in his hand to disgrace the nation he was born to and the brave soldiers who gave their lives to defend it. A social cancer like Mangala needs to be given very high dose of radiation therapy.

Mahinda had a golden line.
We do not let anybody divide this country.
We do not let anybody divide this Nation.
This second line is a real gem.
guys,
we have to admit reality.
the reality is gonseka is still gaining popularity at a dangerous level. i attribute this to 2 reasons.
1. govt has not escalated the HICORP, etc. issues to the next level which is the legal battles
2. "GOTA ORDERED TO KILL THEM" thing has died down thanks to not taking defamation action
3. TNA thing is also fast losing impact as govt don't take any action in regard to that.
4. mongal, ranil, mano, and other sakkiliyas relevance is also fast receding.
meanwhile gonseka has arraged a staged attack on himself during the last 2 days.
and many more plans.
Guys
Read this.

So are the other guys that may found foul of the law.
Government to government would have been the best option and cutting corners will only put one in trouble. It is difficult but a democratic government has an edge over any would be terrorist group and this depends on our diplomatic and FO approaches.Even mighty Israel seems to have got it wrong.
Kev's mate
Moshe,
dont u think fonseka has chances to win if he continues gaining everyday ... where is he gaining(which places) and where president is strong??
Western media is now "showing interest" in Sri Lanka. With poll day drawing nearer we are seeing more activity from them and they all say the same thing, "Gonseka is leading in the polls" (despite actual evidence pointing in the other direction). Conditions are being set for Iran style protests + violence and subsequent "election discredit". Does not matter if the election is declared, "free and fair" by every monitor there is and everything is clean. A few protests here and there by JVP/UNP and some deaths + destruction caused by them and they will say the elections are "fraudulent". JVP/UNP thugs will try and provoke the Police to attack them (such as if they start destroying property then) cry "dissent being crushed". They will do it. Just watch. In fact they will even draw parallels to Iran itself (that is how egoistical they are). We will hear a lot of "since questioned/discredited elections in Sri Lanka there has been violence". Then they will do a Kenya on us and try and get the UN involved. They have never given up with trying to bring that useless organisation into Sri Lanka. Naturally our local traitors (i.e. UNP/JVP politicians) will be jumping up and down at the prospect, even though there may not be a country left. We will have Iran and Kenya combo. Iran style protests, then like Kenya a call for "UN inquiry".
They are desperate to get the UN into Sri Lanka (hence the second coming of Alston as well) to have a "guarantee" of the CFA style environment which Gonseka has promised to re-create with his "international" deal with the TNA/UNP/Ranil/Norway. That is the whole purpose behind the Gonskea initiative and the largescale investment they have made in him (all that money they are pouring into his campaign is not for nothing). To ensure a return to the CFA era of 2002-06 (a Tamil state in all but name). We should not forget the large investment Norway made in the LTTE at Tamil homOland project back in 2002, which they lost out on with the wars end.
You guys might have missed the return of Alston and the Channel 4 video. Here is a great response to him and the lengths he has gone to justify the video as real (even though its still false and he has not proven otherwise, its a bit lengthy but well worth the read).
http://www.lankaweb.com/news/items/2010/01/11/the-return-of-mr-philip-alston-and-petty-desires-for-vengeance/
The Government did not peruse the matter promptly when it first surfaced in August. They should have hunted down JDS and the original video + who gave it to JDS (which Alston and the UN are not interested in). That was a very half baked approach in terms of the West/UN not giving up. I am curious to know whether Siri Hewa has responded or been made aware of Alstons latest trickery?
Shameless Mangala crying that "the Government miss-lead the UN". Heh, funny that considering his former (or current?) boss CBK and Ranil/UNP never miss lead the "international community", they instead miss lead and lied to the people of Sri Lanka, something they continue to engage in today.

Wonder what Gonseka has to say?
Sorry for taking up a lot of space in a quick go, long time lurker, first time poster.
If anyone wants a laugh:
US and Norway deny accusations of funding Sri Lanka opposition
Sat, Jan 16, 2010, 08:44 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.
Jan 16, Colombo: The United States and Norwegian embassies in Colombo today separately denied the accusations, leveled against them by the National Freedom Front legislator Mohamad Muzamil, of funding the opposition to buy the ruling party politicians.
In a statement the Norwegian Embassy said it strongly denies the accusation made yesterday by Muzamil and NFF leader Wimal Weerawansa that Norway has funded the opposition in an alleged attempt to seek Mr. Muzamil's support by offering him a financial deal.
Muzamil told the media yesterday that he was offered 30 million rupees by M. Mustapha and Nazeer Ahamed, two supporters of the opposition candidate. He claimed that he has video and audio evidence to prove the opposition's attempt to make him crossover.
"The accusation is untrue and totally unacceptable. Norway has never – and will never – interfere in an election in another country," it said.
In a statement the U.S. embassy in Colombo said they are neutral on the presidential election and ready to work with any government.
"The United States is neutral and we strongly condemn allegations that we are supporting one side over another," the US statement said.
There is widespread belief among the ruling party supporters in the country that foreign forces that were not happy with the government's refusal to agree with their conditions during the war are now financing the opposition's presidential campaign to force a government change.

Holy fuck! Rather, holy fucking scandalous in my humble view!
Time this patriotic GOSL did something to protect its grass-root supporters from the LTTE supported, LTTE financed thugs in the South.
Gota, I hope you can see what’s happening…that SF Motherfucker has resorted to violence against the GOSL (like LTTE did) and it is time to nip it in the bud.
I suggest patriotic SLA Special Forces be used, undercover, in key positions where UPFA supporters will travel/congregate and when the LTTE (TNA) supported SF Motherfucker-thugs come to attack them, then pop the Motherfuckers by cherry picking like how the SLA SF did in Wanni not long ago.
Looks like we are today fighting a mutated form of LTTE terrorism, so I suggest Gota you order shoot to kill for any LTTE-proxy Motherfucker who comes to attack MR campaign supporters.

No question of re-merging North and Eastern Lanka: Rajapaksa
Rajapaksa said he was duty bound to take steps to safeguard sovereignty and national integrity. Sri Lankan Head of State Mahinda Rajapaksa has ruled out re-merger of the Tamil dominated North and East provinces as demanded by some local politicians, even as Tamil vote appears to be emerging crucial in the upcoming presidential elections.
Very well said my “Maharajanani” !!!
Neither RW Ponnaya nor his new found ponna-pootu Sarath Fonseka has the balls to say this to the Tamil racist whores in the TNA as they are corrupt and after "Tamil votes" at any cost! Yes, they have signed a secret agreement with the TNA which is being hush-hushed until the PE is over!
Our 2500 year beloved nation has had many saviors, some royalty and other commoners, and my dear Maharajanani, you are indeed a Royal Savior in my eyes!
But Sire, after Jan 26th, I think it is time for some “sudda kerilla” in the earnest in the interest of safeguarding Motherlanka. And sudda kerilla it should be, with Terminate with Extreme Prejudice as I used to say re. the LTTE whorebitches.
Patriotic Rajapakse GOSL, please do not lose control of our national security issues (like JRJ and his nephew) as they will not only destroy our Motherland, but you too at a personal level.

Tamils should vote for Rajapaksa: Swamy
Jan 16 (Hindu) CHENNAI- Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy on Friday urged the Tamils of Sri Lanka to vote for Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa in the Presidential elections.

Well well, it is heartening to see intelligent, intellectual people in the International Community coming out and supporting MR!
Speaks volumes about their acceptance of MR's character integrity and his vision for developing SL.

Muzamil goes to bribery commission
By Jatila Karawita
MP Mohamad Muzamil who made a startling revelation last Friday (Jan 15), of an alleged bribe being offered by the Opposition to buy him over handing him rupees 30 million, is set to go before the Bribery Commission to bring the matter to their notice officially, said a spokesman of the media unit of the National Freedom Front (NFF) Jathika Nidahas Peramuna. The NFF media unit spokesman speaking to LAKBIMAnEWS stated that MP Mohamad Muzamil -- having already revealed at a news conference the alleged money drama set in motion by UNP National List MP Myown Mustapha - did not wish to speak to the media anymore.
But, MP Muzamil’s next probable course of action would be to lodge an official complaint with the Bribery Commissioner during the course of this week, the NFF media unit added.
Excellent! Muza, please do so vigorously before Jan 26h and make sure we cook Ravi K, Ranil W (and of course the SF TNA loving bitch too if possible) just to assure they will not raise their head ever again in support the LTTE whoredogs.

mahinda heading for victory, fonseka going to okkalamma (screw his own mother)!!!
good analysis
theobserver123,
gonseka is gaining in traditional blue bastions!!!
this is a double whammy for us.
bandaranayaka's indirect support is there for gonseka in gampaha and saramaweeras backing is there in matara.
MR discounted their strength.
to regain lost ground, MR has to make use of the legal system.
the biggest problem is the inability of the MR campain to PENETRATE into a section of the ppl.
most popular media among them, swarnawahini, MTV, lankadeepa support gonseka. we MUST penetrate this media iron curtain.
the MOST fool proof method to penetrate this is to create news that cannot be disregarded by any media.
kevin,
the problem is sri and isr cannot get these stuff legaly from UK or MOST western countries.
that's why we had to do it this way.
even some "legal" purchases like the purchase of BM-21 misslies from slovenia was actually a violation of EU regulations.
we had to cut corners to get these.
a must see. rukantha supports MR with a fantastic catchy verse and a song. he calls gonseka's opponents MIHINDU!! why didn't all the jokers think of this b4???? MINDU THE SECOND. "DEVANA MIHINDU" are good phrases. thank you rooka.
G'day patriots,
Back home after a couple of years..Lots of people are predicting a tight race..However the tide seems slowly shifting towards an MR landslide..
Moshe,
All Fonseka's gains are in town areas which are traditionally UNP..The large crowds in his rallies are mainly of the JVP mobile sheering squad..Note that there are a lot of red flags than green ones in his rallies..
Many people in the sub-urban and rural areas are a bit quizzical about the family corruption charges against MR..However the Hicorp thing has filtered down to vilalge level and they will go with MR this time..
guys,
an urgent requirement.
sometime back someont posted a photo of our LRRP team getting ready to go. SF talks to them.
in other words the COMPLETE photo of the eight man team.
can anyone please give me a link????
Many voters may not know who real SF is. Many voters who are blinded by party affiliations do not want to know who real SF is. I can forgive them for voting SF. But many prominent people, Ranil, Mangala, JVP leaders even Arjuna Ranathunga and many thousand of others know about SF more than we do. Even if they did not know, now they should have come to know who SF is through the campaign association.
If theses people do not denounce SF's candidacy soon what they are demonstrating is their readiness and willingness to making a grand feast out of corpses of Mother Lanka and its children.
Ranil is a born traitor. He very well knows what he is doing to the Nation by promoting SF for President. Same goes for many other people. These people will cry Devil only when the Devils' jaws and teeth are crunching their own necks. As long as they see some benefits from this devil worshipping it does not matter to them even if this Devil is eating up Mother Lanka and its children.
These people should face ultimate political humiliation and wrath in the coming months. There cannot be any reconciliation, unless they offer genuine full confessions, between these evil forces and the Government. First I hope that voters will punish them severely and then all legal and rightful avenues need to be used to put away these traitors.
If MR is prudent some legal proceeding should start before the election date (right now) when there are more than strong evidence. If they have not started legal proceeding not to compromise propaganda purposes(since when the case is in front of court you cannot talk about it.), now the time is ripe that edge from legal proceeding far exceeds the edge from propaganda itself.
I am expecting something big. Just wishing.
Many journalists are not prepared.
Ranil: We choose SF to bring democracy sweep out corruption.
Prudent Journalist: So Mr. Ranil you are not contesting because you are not democratic and so corrupted.
Ranil:No! No! we need a common candidate.
Prudent Journalist: If you thought you had any chance of winning would you have gone for a common candidate.
Ranil: No! No! we need just a common candidate who can get everyone's support.
Prudent Jounalist: So if you have contested from UNP you would have been defeated.
Ranil: No I would have won!
Two Big Goma Drops In The Milk Pot Of MR's Deeds

Even if a Government is good when an election comes many floating voters will tenatatively flirt with the opppostion. Only later, the floating voter give a serious look and make their final decision.
@Asithri
"Tamils should vote for Rajapaksa: Swamy
Well well, it is heartening to see intelligent, intellectual people in the International Community coming out and supporting MR! "
Asithri this Swamy is no friend. He is a big time Tamil nationalist and former big time LTTE supporter, he is the one who brought the fleet of dinghies to bring food to the "starving besieged poor people of jaffna" back in 87, before the air drop, a near repeat of which we saw in 2009. Only after Rajiv Ghandi's garlanding did he change his mind with regards to the LTTE.
He also went to the US right to that snake Blake to "lobby him" into forcing Sri Lanka and MR to "guarantee Federalism and Tamil rights" back in September. It is only because of the TNA that he is putting his weight behind MR. Swamy is no friend and he is no intellectual. Best to be cautious around forked tongue snakes, especially when it comes to pouring praise on them, Gonseka and Blake are good examples (in 2007 everyone kissed Blake as a "model Americans" until his scales turned into stripes).
Diyasena said...

I hope this is happening!
A couple of donkeys i spoke (on phone) to in villages (family friends etc) were jumping up and down over Gonseka couple weeks back (MR corruption, blah blah blah). Later when Gonseka the man did not live up to Fonseka the image, they went into some kind of denial and kept on saying "prove it" and "that cannot be so". Best response came when TNA deal was made such as "show us the paper its written on" and "what about Douglas and Mahinda supporting him" (an obvious piece of manipulation to cover for Gonseka).
I feel like they made a choice and even though they might be having reservations now will stick to it because they want to save face rather than admit they were wrong. That said who i spoke to were egotistical and uppity types (sort of like Gonseka himself). The recent polls, by Nexus and the Indian group prove otherwise which was a relief.
The problem lies with MRs propaganda and (in)effective use of media. I do not know what he was doing but he has taken way to long to strike these blows. I wish they happened a week earlier.
Excellent! Muza, please do so vigorously before Jan 26h and make sure we cook Ravi K, Ranil W (and of course the SF TNA loving bitch too if possible) just to assure they will not raise their head ever again in support the LTTE whoredogs.

We need to launch a major sting operation that shows Norway/US ambassadors/their handlers giving money to our local traitors and passing it on to buy over people etc etc. A high level infiltration and surveillance job needs to be done i.e. cars + cameras following them around, taking evidence of them entering a premises where a deal is being hatched/money being transferred, then hidden cameras on the Government mole capturing the deal by the Western agent/local lackey.
Has the Government ever thought of surveillance on the NGOs homes? AND crooks like Mangala and Ravi K, where most of these traitorous arrangements and deal are discussed, planned and handshaked on?
We all know what they are doing and we have the evidence through their statements and "work" but if we can catch the on tape it would be a goldmine. Has the Government also checked the finances of these people, a "leak" of this information would not be a bad thing, neither would following them around to all the nigh clubs, and cocktail parties (and embassies) they go to, exposing the lavish life style of these "celebrities" who live off selling the country under the guise of "human rights" for dollars soaked in the nations blood would be another goldmine. In fact our retarded media should be doing this, but alas they are not only inept and uneducated they too want a share of the NGO pie.

Absolutely Swarnajith.
Problem is MRs campaign has been lacklustre, he has not made any major striking blows. HE MUST TAKE LEGEAL ACTION NOW. (During the US Election this happened to Palin albeit it was not significant).
I think MR is afraid of something; maybe he wants to "win them over" and is worried about offending them?
This is his problem in general, accepting any and all trash and being lacklustre on the propaganda front. Always re-active and not pro-active, always does a half-baked job thinking little is enough (e.g. Channel 4 video, should have hunted to the ends of the earth JDS and the original tape, which Alston or the UN are unsurprisingly not interested in, now that forgery keeps coming back).
MR just does not know how to do propaganda and fully utilise the media. Worse they have a pathetic reactive approach and refuse assistance in this field. They just wait till shit hits the fan and go around doing a half hearted job cleaning up. Not once have i seen anything pro-active.
let me put a honest opinion here... starting from ananda to moshe..there is a fear among most of ppl that president is losing ground and race is tightening...i dont think ppl are foolish to believe ranil/mangala if only the race is about personality... i think there is something ppl are angry about the present regime...inspite of everything that president has done..his family involvement (especially his son namal) and the goons who surrond him are pulling him down..
In fairness the sudden excitement and noise is from silenced UNP/JVP supporters who were hiding in shame of "their leaders" with Gonseka's arrival they suddenly got a booster shot of life. It has created a massive propaganda wave with regards to corruption being the only actual foundation block of their campaign (abolishing executive presidency disappeared).
The problem people have is not with Mahinda directly. It is his cabinet of ministers. While they live lives of luxury the ordinary people compared to them are struggling. (I know why MR has a jumbo cabinet, nevertheless its pathetic he had to make sure they lived happily just to stop them crossing over, to prevent Government collapse and then the war being stopped. Really pathetic scene where the country would go down the gutter if these scum are not kept happy, seems like that is happening anyway).
MRs post war behaviour was atrocious. People expected him to offer some relief, pruning the ministers (or their luxury lives) would have been the best things to do but MR got deluded that he is indeed Maha Rajaro.
There is no real "magic bullet" with regards to prices of essential items, all remedies since Independence, primarily subsiding, have been short term solution that only knock prices down for a few weeks then they sky rocket to even higher levels, farmers do not work hard enough, when they are motivated to do so someone comes along with an "easier solution" ("why bother working hard for 5 years, when I can import! And you can have an easy life today!").
Its what people like to hear, and Gonseka has played that card well in light of MRs jumbo cabinet having a garla time. That is the anger; the jumbo cabinet and lives of luxury while ordinary people have a very hard time.
Hence why the corruption stories have lots of weight even though they are unproven (Vs Gonsekas "clean" record) and ridiculous promises that cannot be delivered let alone sustained win Gonseka support.
I hope MR gets rid of this jumbo cabinet and starts colonisation schemes (call this whatever you want like "increasing farm produce"). In fact giving the impoverished Sinhala masses the empty lands of the North and East, which originally belonged to them anyway before monoethnic Tamil brutality began, will solve their economic problems as well as national security and separatists issues. Would also bag MR major vote blocks in the North and East. Multiple birds with one stone.
Moshe,
Here we go.FYI, Fonseka was not their originally, they just superimposed Fonseka's image foe Deyata Kirula exhibition.
APPEASEMENT NEVER WORKS!
When will Sinhala leaders learn this lesson? You can do all these good things and they will come back with some "grievances" or complaint. It is their nature. Tamils enjoy having illegitimate grievances and will never stop complaining until they come to dominate the Sinhala. If MR thinks this will make them more "Sri Lankan" and vote for him he is going to get a good slap in the face from them. Tamils just take take take and never give anything back but will always make up a reason to justify violence and demanding of MORE. They are not genuine and are a community that thrives on deceit; just see Raj Rajaratnam and that fellow who was arrested a few days back in the UK (DailyMail article).
"Do not try to pin me down for no reason"
Following is the response President Mahinda Rajapaksa gave the TNA delegation led by R. Sampanthan, that called on him for talks on December 30.
“With regard to the request to dismantle the High Security Zone, I wish to inform you that I have already started re-settling the original inhabitants, with 70 families already resettled.
There is no problem for the Tamil people in the country today. They have the freedom to go about as they want, without any fear or suspicion. No raids are conducted on lodges today, for search operations, as done before. There are no problems confronting the Tamil people in Colombo or elsewhere in the country today. People in the East are being resettled in newly reconstructed houses. Provision of infrastructure facilities for people in the North is making headway. We are reconstructing the KKS harbour. A new airport is coming up in Iranamadu. We are developing the Jaffna-Colombo highway, to make it a six-hour drive from Jaffna. We have started extending the democratic rights of the Tamil people, in terms of the 13th Amendment as well.
When we are doing all these with the best of intentions, and when what we are doing is clearly seen, you come here to try to pin us down with a set of proposals which none can implement as conditions. I will not cow down to your conditions. Do not try to pin me down for no reason.”
http://www.nation.lk/2010/01/17/newsfe2.htm
Moshe,
That was a huge crowd when Rukntha attended the meeting. It is absolutely necessary to energize the patriots and demoralize traitors in coming few days. I hope that more and more attempts by Fonseka will be revealed soon.
sam,
almost.
thanks but i BADLY need the photo with SF.
PLEASE.

MR promises to protect traitors and corrupted people. Does not he have heart to take them to the court since he is in the same boat?
Not hating one and considering one as a friend are two different things.
There is no way that SF can be forgiven in the collective level even if I am able to forgive and foget it at the personal level.
Also forgiving and being friend are two different things.
I wiil always forgive one who stabs me (in attempting to kill me) and sometimes I might even make friends with my stabber. I will save my stabber's life when I can.
For a rapist and a traitor of a Nation I will not make friends again.
I will seriously doubt character of the people who make friends with traitors and rapists. Doing so is not gnetleness it is meekness, timidness, principlelessness and valuelessness.

How strange is this? A lawyer of the Opposition Camp file a bribery case against Mohammed?
If Mohammed has taken a bribe then someone has given a bribe.
so are they admitting they bribed Mr. Mohmmed? Or, is there something with this news item?
/the reality is gonseka is still gaining popularity at a dangerous level. i attribute this to 2 reasons./
As I see reality is bit different. Gonseka hits his maximum popularity on May 19 and it started going down since he hinted contesting. He had some good support in towns but that too now floating with Hicorp. I don't see he gaining any thing.
If GSL file cases then no one can talk about it. Wining election and wining court case are two different things. I think MR is doing right thing.
We talk => people decide.
Layers talk => judges decide.
Ninja about legal case and propaganda, what you say is true.
But to gain the maximum advantage one must show credibility. In the last week it should go legal.
Why is not the Government using the fact that SF established a military regime in Ambalangod for a short duration to convince SF's Idi Aminic tendency?
Is the Government too shy to talk about that SF already ran a military regime?

[Asithri this Swamy is no friend…He is a big time Tamil nationalist]
Agree. However he is a renowned enemy of my enemy and having done what he did against that heinous enemy and now when he sends out a call for SL Tamils to vote for MR, we should give it the highest publicity.
[and former big time LTTE supporter… Only after Rajiv Ghandi's garlanding did he change his mind with regards to the LTTE]
True. However, what he did against the LTTE since then in my view has been truly a God-send in our attempts to liquidate the LTTE. Just to recollect, here are a few of his statements against the LTTE that he uttered not only in India, but in many a forum in the west:
“LTTE is a terrorist organization which moreover killed Rajiv Gandhi and has spewed poison online about India”
“LTTE is a part of the Sri Lankan problem, and can never be a part of the solution”
“I am happy at the new resolve (of GOSL) to fight the LTTE and kick
out busybodies like the Norwegians.”
[he is no intellectual]
Well, this can be subjective. However, given that he was awarded a doctorate by Harvard University, was a full professor in Economics at Harvard, worked in the UN Secretariat at New York as an economics affairs advisor etc. I would say he has some “intellectual leanings.”
However, agree that means fuckforall vis-à-vis our critical issue, except when he’s at the podium shredding the LTTE, people were apt to take note of what he was saying also because of his academic credentials.
[Best to be cautious around forked tongue snakes]
Fully agree. However, I think we must also know how to use this type of “our enemy’s enemy” to our advantage and not cut him off completely.

[Two Big Goma Drops In The Milk Pot Of MR's Deeds
SF
Mervin]
SF? Why? Just that SF was appointed the SLA Commander? How can that be a "Goma Drop" in MR's record? Rather, it was Gota who batted for SF and it was MR who on more than one occasion had wanted to drop the bitch from his SLA Commander post.
Mervin?
Yes, this I can agree with.
However, frankly, I am sick of this harping on "Mervin factor" as really if you go to SL and travel extensively in the country (which I did), it is a non-issue for the average SL citizen.
Sure the "Mervin factor" was a big deal for the pro-separatist camp (that includes the likes of RW-UNP, Sirasa, Sunday Leader, etc.) and some Colombo elites (on both sides) who were outright embarassed with Mervin's antics.
However, when you step into the countryside Sri Lanka (where the "real" votes are), this is hardly an issue as the buring issues there are the cost of living, not enough subsidies for farming, education for children, etc. etc.
So, I for one would not want to prattle a largely opportunistic cry of the pro-separatist opposition camp like a parrot here.

[let me put a honest opinion here... starting from ananda to moshe..there is a fear among most of ppl that president is losing ground and race is tightening...]
So Mr. "honest opinion" did you do a brain scan of Ananda and Moshe to know that there is this fear?
Or did Ananda and Moshe call you on your private mobile and tell you this? Or better still, did they call the HiCorp official number in the US and covey this fear to you?
When all surveys coming out tell that MR is leading by a handsome margin, I must give you credit for your super-intelligence or extra-sensory powers that tell otherwise!
:)) :)) :))
OaO Asithri
Folks,
I maybe contradicting some. Following is what I feel about situ here.
- There is a huge trend among ppl for SF. Mostly started in cities but spreading to villages. Note that in SL most population live in villages in close proximity to cities. Far away outbacks do not count much.
- They achieved this by gobbels theory and also spreading lots of lies. Importantly MR's side just played into their hands most of the time.
- Many true facts went wasted as MR side used lots of lies writh them. If you talk about HICORP out of Hudson's mouth, ppl surely think it is a lie. Same happened for all true allegations.
- Even MR supporters don't watch ITN etc. There is nothing to watch.
- Did SB win votes or lost them?
- MR media team shud seriously understand the theory "We Report You decide". Theirs is a decision forced on public, not a fact for public decision making.
- SL ppl have put other facts ahead of country often, especially when the war is over on the surface.
- Trend is in floating votes. However that does not mean that bulk elephant votes and bulk bell votes will be fully utilized. Had they been so, there is sufficient swing in floating vote bloc for SF to win, me thinks.
- If trend is shown for little more, the jumping rats like Thonda etc may jump. And that will be a death blow on MR. So far it does not show up. But Thonda is a king of taking U turns in a couple of hours.
Hope MR will win. His need is proven beyond any doubt if any eyes are open.
Asithri
Fully agree. However, I think we must also know how to use this type of “our enemy’s enemy” to our advantage and not cut him off completely.
Absolutely.
I am just really cautious with such two tongued individuals. I have noticed Lankans (don't mean you specifically) sometimes get carried away and see a deeper friendship when there is not one.
Pole apart from Swamy is Ireland. When Ireland voted against us at the UNHRC many people i know were stunned. They were like "why, why! Thought they were different". They got confused with the friendliness of cricket.
In the end same set of gooks flock together!
With regards to Mervin, I believe it costs MR votes (how many is anyones guess) not because people have run into him, but because it ties into the "MR is corrupt" "argument". Mervin is not only seen as living a life of luxury Vs the ordinary people, he is also seen as someone allowed to be "above the law" and get away with thuggary because he is "MRs pet". The vile goebbelian style propaganda of the opposition enhances this image. It is hard to dismiss.
These issues (cost of living, Mervin, jumbo cabinet) are denying MR votes.
There is no harm in pointing out these problems to help increase MRs popularity/votes.
The opposition is twisting and lying, their "solutions" are bogus and things they will never implement (assuming they actually have solutions –most likely they do not) yet it has an effect on MRs vote bank. There are people who believe this crap and think MR is lying to them by denying the easy solution the opposition is supposedly offering. A sustained propaganda drive will drill this into peoples head which is what the Gonseka initiative has done coupled with the "MR is corrupt" "argument" enhancing this thinking.
For example the CoL is not like the exaggerated tales of the opposition, yet people say "everything is so expensive" because they believe (thanks to the UNP propaganda) the CoL can be made even lower. Many have unintentionally fallen for and are regurgitating this propaganda. I know this from experience, see the price of an item and it is not actually that high compared to the impression created by the UNP, or even without the impression created by the UNP, yet they say "everything is so expensive". They have been duped and MR is not countering it well enough.
We all want MR to get as many votes/supporters as he can. While the surveys are great news, I believe MR can tap even more votes and he is loosing this opportunity because he is not countering Mangala’s backroom barefoot boys nor getting the correct message out forcefully enough.
So much For "Uncorrupted" Politics.

More than 24 hours after the event and STILL NO responses from the US Embassy (or Western media) decrying the incident. But when a rumoured Opposition supporter was killed in Tangalle the US Embassy issued a statement before the incident was even reported in the media and Western media went mad acting like a genocide just happened. Clearly they knew before hand and had a pre-prepared statement (well would not be surprising). Furthermore the silence of Western media over the bribery case is fascinating. I am sure if it were the Government "caught" their media and their local NGOs (CPA, FMM, CMEV, INFORM -all the same) would be crying foul.
Its ridiculous that Western backed NGOs are "monitoring" the election, same lot who justified Tamil terrorism,, supported Tamil terrorism and heavily assisted in smuggling in suicide bombers to slaughter innocent Sinhalese with by ensuring the Government would have a hard time arresting them under the guise of "human rights violations" are trying to "enforce" democracy in Sri Lanka. Same people who backed, justified and supported Tamil apartheid building and massacres of non-Tamils want to lecture the country about "freedom" and "democracy"
Pol Sambol,
For US, UK, Norway etc, their stooges have special human rights and other humans have no value at all. It is imperative that we declare all such diplomats and NGOs, and INGOs non-grata.
SU
Not sure from where/how you get that info, but the info I am getting tells me "ground realities" are much different from that of yours.
For instance, I am told that since the SF/RW pact with TNA came out, people have taken note that SF camp is denying it and not publicizing details of the agreement, whereas, TNA Sambandan and other TNAs have been going round loudly proclaiming sheer "victory."
People are not idiots and even some SF supporters are confused and appear to be highly disenchanted with this. Especially, the JVP supporters are asking behind the scene "is this true" as they were not present at that meeting/agreement with TNA.
However, the most damage SF did for himself was when he accused Gota and ShavendraS of committing war crimes. Although he tried a retraction, given that Sunday Leader has stood by the story and SF's refusal to file charges against SL, quite a few SF supporters have ditched him. Bottom line: They are patriots at heart and did not like how SF betrayed Gota and Shavendra.
In addition, from what I hear, I cannot buy into what you say about the HiCorp scandal.
This has been very damaging to SF and that is why he organized Mohammad Muzzamil to crossover (on a 300 lakh bribe) and take stage at SF campaign HQ and lie that this HiCorp is all a concoction from the MR GOSL. For SF's bad luck, Mohammad Muzzamil was a mole and spilled the beans!
Therefore, if, as you say people have not paid attention to the HiCorp issue, I highly doubt SF would have gone to that trouble to get a GOSL politician to crossover for the express purpose of neutralizing that issue.
Sure, people are complaining about "everything is so expensive" "govt ministers are corrupt" etc. but I think still there is no mass desertion of MR simply because of such - only because people know the alternative could be worse!
However, I agree with PolS and others here that MR campaign needs to be high-geared and not stay complacent.
I am in touch constantly with 5 individuals in 5 different parts of the nation and this is what I am hearing.
OaO Asithri
Pol Sambol,
This bribery case is good enough to throw Fonseka behind bars right today with Ravi Karunanayake, Malik and Musthafa. If we don't take an legal action now, it should be given the maximum publicity along with HiCorp and Sunday Leader story until the election is over.
Sam
[This bribery case is good enough to throw Fonseka behind bars right today with Ravi Karunanayake and Musthafa.]
Agree. I think they must be jailed immediately as clearly, they appear to have broken a serious law of land.
Bribery & corruption is such a menace in the country (as SF himself says often), GOSL must show sincerity in prosecuting offenders - even if we have to slaughter a few sacred cows.
Will this backfire on MR's campaign bid?
I for one think unlikely.
JRJ put Sirimavo under house arrest, stripped her of her civic rights, etc. and many said such will backfire on him and the UNP. Rather, the UNP went onto winning election after election after that!
However, I agree this is not a black-white issue and would like to hear other opinions from Patriots.

Well I'm not sure about this.
There is no evidence against fonny.
The evidence they have vedio, and audio , I'm not sure whether audio evidence is admissible in a cout.
Then their video is also not very clear, reasonalble doubt can be pointed on the quality of the video therefor the identity of the people in there.
The only good evidence will be the money, if they can track the finger prints on the money, or the numbers on the money to UNP people.
I dont think there is a good court case here, but a political case.
LOL!

Government must give maximum publicity to the HiCorp story, tell the nation how Gonseka was making money from the war along with the story in AT how he settled phone bills using soldiers welfare money, a good propagandist would tie BOTH together (i.e. he was actually phoning HiCorp) and toss in the fact this maggot does not care for soldiers lives. Then at the same time have a different outlet/article reveal how he sent to slaughter 400 soldiers at Muhamalia back in October 2006 because of his bloody ego and desire to make his "mark" on the war. Remember this clown just came back from Singapore after the self-inflicted suicide bombing. I say self-inflicted because he brought the cook who brought the bomber Ranil had allowed into Colombo. Double whammy being Gonseka is now with Ranil, and while both are carrying out the Wests agenda of "getting rid" of patriot Gotabaya who was the one who kept the war going and told Mahinda not to go for any ceasefire from Mavil Oya (West thought we would stop there) it was also Gotabaya who made sure Gonseka got best medical treatment available at Singapore.
That is how you show what kind of dirty man this Gonseka is.
He would be a bloody nobody if not for Gotabaya and Mahinda. Yet he jumps into bed with Ranil (remember his maiden press conference) where he said that Ranil and Mangala’s disgusting statements against the Army and nation were "small things" while boasting "I won the war". If Ranil/Mangala had been successful with their "small things" those small things would have been MASSIVE, the war would have been stopped and this Gona would not be able to croak about how he "won the war".
The HiCorp story which can be "won" by Mahinda at the courts thus solidifying it, while the bribery case cannot go to the courts (the evidence though I believe to be factual will not hold up in court) nevertheless it ENHANCES the HiCorp story reflecting back on Gonsekas "Mr Not corrupt" character and how he will rob the nation to the maximum if he becomes President. As well as how the West is behind the Gonseka initiative to bring back the CFA style environment of 2002-06 (with the UN acting as a guarantee, Gonseka said he would not mind UN coming here) selling out our soldiers sacrifices. This links up with how Gonseka does not care for our soldiers, further exemplified by his "out burst" to Sunday Leader, adding more fuel is revealing why he dragged patriot and hero Shavindra Silva –out of jealousy of SS and Gonsekas selfish desire to take all credit for the war out of ego as demonstrated in Mumhamalia in 2006.
You can see how the bits and pieces come together to form the puzzle that would pulverise Gonseka, if done properly through media deliverance. Mahinda is really lacklustre here.
Wow, what a surprise. Those making the allegations, those supplying the "evidence" (concocted evidence), the court, the judge and jury are all the same. What is the basis for this "chemical weapons" one? The other eccentrics who have barked like mad for 4 years have never mentioned this one haha. As for using artillery well yeah that is a modern weapon of war haha. Some years back i believe in 2006 a similar trial was held over US and Britain for the 1 million they massacred and 4 million displaced (which actually took place and has REAL evidence) in Turkey. Western media unsurprisingly paid no attention to it. Haha. As we have seen when the Human rights champions commit war crimes and crimes against humanity it does not count. Human rights is only for whites and their stooges. Whites can lecture us about human rights because they are superior. The biggest killers, slaughterers, robbers and destroyers this planet has seen (who’s armies to this day do what they do best, killing the natives people of foreign lands) are the guardians of humanity. I weep for humanity.

Gonseka getting popular..? HIKz
Gonseka method now is to use violence. He has 1000s of SLA deserters. Now on daily basis they attack MR supporters (bombings, shooting..) and can expect increased and organized attacks on areas favorable to MR on election day resulting innocent people staying home or EC canceling results. This was the method JVP used in 1988 for RP to become president.
@Asithri
With regards to arresting Gonseka i do not think at the moment that is a good idea.
Within this week i.e. best before Friday, they must arrest someone linked to Gonseka and HiCorp such as his son in law or some other big gun in HiCorp, they have to push this before, during and after the election and start now.
Gonseka is too big a fish to arrest at the moment. But that scum Ravi K would be brilliant catch.
Post-election and i pray that Mahinda wins, Gonseka needs to be arrested on corruption charges (plus other charges) and put through the ringer. He cannot be allowed to leave the country. He will do huge damage, knowing his ego he will not stop till Sri Lanka burns; he will hate the people for rejecting him/for making him loose. Also we need him to spill all the beans and explain his shady deals with the TNA, Ranil, Norway etc, then make more arrests. Would be brilliant if we can crack the NGO circus as well.
"Ninja said...

Ninja what is the pulse of the people with regards to Gonseka? Can you please give us more updates (sorry if I sound like I am asking for bus service like thing from you)?
Many of us have to rely on phone calls into SL rather than being in SL itself to feel the mood. We are really worried, news of Gonseka "having support"/not much enthusiastic support for MR is frightening.
"Gonseka method now is to use violence. He has 1000s of SLA deserters. Now on daily basis they attack MR supporters (bombings, shooting..) and can expect increased and organized attacks on areas favorable to MR on election day resulting innocent people staying home or EC canceling results."
And the real heart burner is that the Government gets blamed for all violence with the help of Western media.
If/when that scum loses; they will naturally blame the Gonseka sparked violence using it as a tool to discredit the election results.

this is good news.
Sole Tamil presidential candidate M.K. Sivajilingam, backed by a rebellious section of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) has not thrown in the towel as some candidates have done and has now even brought his campaign to the South.
Asked what support he was getting from his own alliance, he said MP and senior lawyer, N. Srikantha was openly managing his campaign, but five to six other TNA parliamentarians were supporting him from behind the scene for fear of not getting nominations from the alliance at the next general election.
Sivajilingam told The Nation that he had already covered areas in Colombo like Kotahena, Wellawatte Bambalapitiya, Kirulapone and Mattakkuliya, where there are large numbers of Tamils and yesterday he was canvassing Tamil votes in places like Kalutara, Matugama and Galle.
Since he is campaigning with New Left Front candidate Dr Wickramabahu Karunaratne, the arrangement seems to be working well for both candidates. They have together already completed campaigning in the Batticaloa and Ampara Districts.
He said except in Karaitivu, where Karuna’s people disrupted his meeting and he had to be protected by his police bodyguards, there had been no problems for him so far.
The sole Tamil candidate said he hoped to go to the East once again to campaign in the Trincomalee District from January 19. Prior to Trincomalee he will also campaign in the hill country and Vavuniya. The last three days of campaigning from January 21 to 23 he would campaign throughout the Jaffna District addressing more than 100 meetings.
According to Srikantha their volunteers have already canvassed for Sivajilingam in more than 90 per cent of the villages in Jaffna distributing handbills going from door to door.
“The issue we are taking before the people is that instead of taking sides we shall play straight. Our prime objective is to achieve a political solution. Let the Sinhalese decide whom they want to elect as the President,” Srikantha said.
Asked as to how many Tamil votes his candidate hoped garner, the campaign manager said “he should do remarkably well.”

i cannot dispute your first hand accounts of the situation.
but gonseka's rallies are getting bigger and bigger. for an opposition candidate that is very "promising".
that a-h randy we took into custoday has not been properly used. he knows the ins and outs of hicorp, satpro, hitrone and tidal. WTF???
nothing is happening!
Asithri,
I too think that SF and his supporters have seriously violated the laws of the land and should be held accountable for it.
It is very strange for a self-appointed "anti-corruption white-knight" to be immersed neck-deep in these things ... a clear case of a POT calling the KETTLE black!
But, any action against them must be taken only after all evidence has been carefully evaluated both with regard to their truth and their admissibility in court as affected by the method of acquisition of the evidence. This cannot be done in the short time left before the PE.
If SF is arrested before the PE, the perception that he was arrested to prevent his competeting fairly in the PE would be very damaging both in Sri Lanka and internationally.
Therefore, depending upon the validity of the evidence against SF, no action should be taken against SF now. But, he should be prevented from leaving the country and/or seeking refuge in a foreign embassy to avoid the legal consequences of his actions.
On the other hand, there may be other people who are more directly involved in this affair, and against whom there is ample evidence; they can be arrested immediately without incurring the liability of arresting SF.
Furthermore, I have heard that most of the PE-related violence is being orchestrated by the UNF leadership. An investigative unit should be assigned to this as well, and the people responsible should be arrested immediately.
Guess i was wrong, the bribery case can go to court because they have more evidence than what was released to us

Let me CATEGORICALLY state that I, Ananda-USA, has not expressed ANY FEAR of MR losing ground, in any of my posts. In fact, I have predicted a LANDSLIDE victory for MR.
Also, as far as I am aware, Moshe has only posted HIS IDEAS FOR AGGRESIVELY CONTESTING SF's PROPAGANDA.
Moshe is indefatigable .. he is always on the attack. He wants to make certain MR will win with the largest possible lead. His posts cannot be interpreted as his fretting about MR losing ground. In an election campaign that is also my approach .. leave no legally permitted stone unturned in the quest for victory.
This is my view of Moshe's posts; but Moshe should speak for himself.
Ananda, after results are announced and Gonseka is hopefully defeated, we need to grab Gonseka immediately, keep him under an unofficial house arrest, then charge him with corruption, espionage, treason and criminal behaviour –throw the book at him. In the mean time Government needs to spread propaganda in a manner similar to what I wrote above. (Also arrest Ravi K).
Oh by the way, remember Panhinda and his preaching? Well he is unsurprisingly unfazed by the sudden drop of his much touted "abolishing of the executive presidency". You can find that thick skinned UNP liar here under the name of "Athos" here:

[APPEASEMENT NEVER WORKS!
They are not genuine and are a community that thrives on deceit; just see Raj Rajaratnam and that fellow who was arrested a few days back in the UK (DailyMail article).]
This is ABSOLUTELY correct!
APPEASEMENT NEVER .. NEVER .. NEVER WORKS!
ananda,
on the dot!! (as usual)
but getting 50% for MR is still difficult.
let me explain.
if you add UPFA vote at all PC elections, they got slightly more than 5 million votes which is equal to 50%.
voters turnout was low except in SPC.
+ some elections were held when the war was not won
- most absentee voters are UNP fellows bcos there were no proper candidates to vote in their view.
now in their view there is a proper candidate.
Asithri:
Whatever is done, whoever is the doer, ultimate responsiblility lies on MR. For the credit of MR he himself has said that if SF has done anything wrong during MR's presidency then he (MR) takes the responsibility.
MR has to cover up and ignore so many dirty things of SF. SF got to a situation that he virtually ran the govenrment at least in some quarters and for some extent. They (MR) followed a pollicy of appeasement towards SF.
Later he established a military regime in Ambalangoda for a short duration.
All the killings, corrupt activities were covered up by the Government and they unduly praised SF.
The zero was made a hero.
Now when MR or his side puts these things out general folk cannot differentiate lies from truth.
So the credibility of MR has suffered.
I cannot see SF as acapable military commander, seeing now that he cannnot be a team player, or a logical thinker(needed for military planning) he does not own a straight mind and he cannot inspire his soldiers.
He was chosen only because of his ruthlessness. I have been told that he might be resposnsible for many acts committed in the war field and war area that you and I do not and cannot sanction.
As a whole MR' war effort was a humanitarian effort.

1. he does not have political experience. he may still lead himself in an election but not others.
2. he does not allow ANY thing contrary to his beliefs.
due to this stupid attitude some election material is not going to go to the ppl.
for instance a poster with SF in uniform in the backdrop of killed LTTE cadres in civilian clothes in the north and east, upcountry and in colombo is not going to happen.
this type of rigid BS is VERY bad.
3. SF's UTTER DESPERATION is not shared by the MR camp
SF has a massive reason to win the election. if he is a civilian in the USA, he is at risk of being called into trouble. now he has agreed to US conditions to save his sorry ass by betraying others.
ok no need for personal desperation. but the country is once again desperate. the country is AT PERIL AGAIN!!
as we slowly recover from the separatism CANCER there is an attempt to disrupt medication.
India NEVER LEARNS that they only CREATE problems in Sri Lanka, and cannot even SOLVE the PROBLEMS they CREATE!

India intends to play greater role in Lanka
PK Balachandran
January 18, 2009
COLOMBO: India plans to play a greater role in finding a solution to the Tamil question in Sri Lanka, following the exit of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) from the political scene in the island nation.
This was conveyed by India’s Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao to a delegation of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) which met her in New Delhi late last week, according to Suresh Premachandran. TNA MP for Jaffna district.
Premachandran told Express that New Delhi had invited the TNA to brief it on the developing political situation in Sri Lanka post LTTE.
Premachandran denied that New Delhi had been trying to get the TNA to support Rajapaksa.
The delegation pointed out that the Rajapaksa regime had not done anything substantial to ease the difficulties of the Tamil war refugees and resettle them in their original habitats. It had refused to dismantle the High Security Zones and unite the northern and eastern provinces to form a single Tamil speaking province. It had not stopped the state sponsored colonization of Tamil villages in the East by Sinhalese from outside. It had stalled the work of the all party conference engaged in producing a devolution package for the Tamils.
Leaders deplore Fonseka - TNA pact to re-merge NE
SundayObserver.lk
January 17, 2009
Sarath Fonseka and his colleagues have drawn up plans to re-merge the North and the East and allow Western powers to plunder our country's resources after signing an agreement with the TNA led by R. Sampanthan, said JHU leader Ven. Ellawala Medhananda Thera.
The R. Sampanthan led TNA represented Vellupillai Prabhakaran's LTTE and that was well known. LTTE attacks on the Jayasri Mahabodhi premises and the Sri Dalada Maligawa killed thousands of innocent people. An agreement with the TNA will be a threat to the sovereignty and national integrity of the country Ven. Ellawala Medhananda Thera said.
National Patriotic Movement (NPM) President Dr. Gunadasa Amarasekera said that the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) had agreed to support Sarath Fonseka at the presidential election subject to re-merging the North and East regions, releasing all LTTE suspects and abolishing High Security Zones (HSZs).
"The TNA had presented the same conditions to President Mahinda Rajapaksa but he turned them down," he said.
Mass Media and Information, Investment Promotion Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa said that the Government had clearly identified the aspirations of the Tamils. The TNA or Sampanthan never ever tried to give ear to the cry for democracy of the Tamil people and instead they supported the LTTE's separatists' agenda, he said. Commenting on the Sarath Fonseka-TNA pact, the minister said the direction pursued by the Government towards fulfilling the aspirations of the Tamil people is vastly different to that which is being followed by TNA Leader R. Sampanthan who always tried to drive Tamil people towards the separatist LTTE goals.
All Ceylon Tamil Congress leader Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam said that the TNA Leader R. Sampanthan was handling the party affairs arbitrarily. TNA Parliamentarian S. Kishore alleged that Sampanthan was suppressing certain matters that transpired at the meeting with the presidential candidates.
TWO Agreements and not ONE between the TNA and SF?
..........
Sampanthan signed two secret agreements with Fonseka, UNP
Lakshmi DE SILVA
Tamil National Alliance leader R.Sampanthan had signed two secret agreements with NDF Presidential candidate Sarath Fonseka and UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe. But the JVP, the second largest political party in the Fonseka camp were not aware of it, TNA Member of Parliament M.K.Sivajilingam who is also a candidate contesting the Presidential poll told the Daily News yesterday.
The brokers between Fonseka and Sampanthan were WPF Parliamentarian Mano Ganeshan and SLMC leader Rauf Hakim.
As members of the TNA we could not accept any agreement made with the Fonseka camp that was not accepted by the JVP the second largest party backing his candidature nor were we told what the agreements they had reached with Sampanthan. Only photo copies of some document was shown to the TNA members and Sampanthan is keeping the originals. We are not mad to accept as authentic the copies that were shown.
He said he was not aware whether Fonseka would break up the north and east into two or three.
We could have reached a settlement the problem as far back as 1987 but we had not done it. The promise of abolishing the executive presidency by Sarath Fonseka is also not a realistic one.
Therefore I am contesting the presidential poll and I will obtain a large number of votes from the north and east and will be placed third.
Some TNA Parliamentarians asked whether there was a written agreement between Samapanthan and Fonseka refused to comment. When asked whether the TNA was split into two or more factions they said these Parliamentarians were not aware.
TNA leader Sampanthan with some other TNA Parliamentarians is currently on a visit to India.
Moshe,
"for instance a poster with SF in uniform in the backdrop of killed LTTE cadres in civilian clothes in the north and east, upcountry and in colombo is not going to happen.
"
That is bloody mad. It will land Sri Lanka in huge mess and would backfire immensely. Its saying civilians were killed knowingly and happily even if it is meant to depict LTTE cadres, we'll be doing LTTE propaganda.
No wonder Gota vetoed that; it is short sighted and will damage the nation. We would be doing a Sunday Leader onto ourselves.
They need to replay the Sunday Leader statement and tie it up with the return of Alston.
Ananda,
India will never stop harassing Sri Lanka, another lesson Sinhala leaders must learn, but one I believe Mahinda is thankfully aware of. Would not surprise me if they too are involved (secret nod) with the Gonseka initiative. I really doubt the West would have proceeded in such a manner without their approval.
Its in both their interests to see Sri Lanka politically unstable, economically retarded and socially broken. India tried to force Sri Lanka to stop the war many times starting from late 2006, where they demanded a "political solution" when things got tough for the LTTE, all the way till April 24th when MR told them he would not stop and they could launch another air drop if the wanted. India will always protect their cubs, even if they have rabies.
We need to up the China card.
Gave the link earlier, but here is the story in full. Excellent work by NFF patriots.
Sapphire gate: Wimal will
produce irrefutable evidence
By Shamindra Ferdinando
Muslim presidential candidate,
presidential advisor implicated
National Freedom Front (NFF) leader Wimal Weerawansa, MP, yesterday said that he had both photographic and audio evidence to implicate UNP National List and Muslim presidential candidate, MP Myown Mustapha, and presidential advisor Nazeer Ahmed in an attempt to bribe NFF member, M. Musammil, MP.
Mustapha quit the presidential race last Friday (Jan 15) to throw his weight behind the Opposition presidential candidate General (Retd) Sarath Fonseka.
At a press conference called by the NFF yesterday, Weerawansa produced a CD which contained conversations involving Mustapha, Musammil and two others, including a UNP MP. Releasing copies of the CD to print and electronic media at yesterday’s briefing, Weerawansa said that this was only a fraction of what Musammil had recorded over the past several days. He said that their lawyers had advised them not to release the entire lot as it could be detrimental to legal proceedings.
Weerawansa said that the NFF would go before the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption within the next few days. "We’ll produce everything, including wads and wads of money received by Musammil from Mustapha before the Bribery Commission," he said. Responding to media queries, he said that they did not want to alert the Bribery Commission to ensure that there wouldn’t be any leak about their ‘operation.’
The former JVP heavyweight said that his colleague had taken a huge personal risk by exposing a clandestine operation targeting government MPs ahead of the presidential polls. "What he did was amazing. He had obtained irrefutable evidence to prove a conspiracy to bribe MPs," he said while emphasising the importance of bringing in the required Constitutional Amendments to prevent MPs switching their allegiance for personal gain. He said that there was nothing wrong in lawmakers joining another party over serious differences of opinion but it would be nothing but a crime to accept money or any other perks and privileges to change sides. He emphasised that Musammil exposed the Opposition operation for the sake of the country.
continued....
Weerawansa urged the media not to play politics with the issue but to report facts. Referring to yesterday’s The Sunday Island lead story The mud continues to fly, the MP stressed that their operation could not be considered a mud slinging campaign.
Musammil said that Mustapha invited him to join the Fonseka camp on January 5 in Parliament. "I immediately brought this to the notice of Weerawansa, who wanted me to put everything in writing. Once that was done, we responded to Mustapha’s proposals, positively and gradually won his confidence," he said. The UPFA National List MP said that they had haggled over the payment the Opposition was willing to pay him. Ultimately, the Opposition had agreed on a Rs. 30 million payment, he said, revealing Mustapha went to the extent of arranging a meeting between him and a top UNP official on the night of Thaipongal. The MP said that he was accompanied by Mustapha and Nazeer Ahmed and there had been another person.
Weerawansa also released a section of the conversation which had taken place at the UNP official’s residence. Musammil said that during the discussion there, he was asked to discredit Weerawansa the following day by disputing two major allegations levelled against Opposition presidential candidate General (Retd) Sarath Fonseka. "They asked me to dispute damaging allegation on a secret deal between the UNP-JVP combine and the TNA and accusations of alleged Hicorp deals," he said. Musammil said that he used a special recording device to record the conversation.
Turning towards Weerawansa, Musammil said that he had to criticise the party leader in his conversation with the Opposition to win their confidence.
Musammil said that at one point Mustapha and the UNP official disagreed on the venue where he (Musammil) was going to meet the media. "Then the official contacted a UNP MP over the phone and discussed the venue," he said. The CD released by the NFF contained the discussion among the official, the MP and Mustapha. In all conversations, Musammil’s voice was clearly audible.
"We agreed to meet at the Hotel Sapphire the following day," he said.
According to him, the NFF had secretly videoed when the bag containing money changed hands. Both Mustapha and Nazeer Ahmed are pictured with Musammil in Room 205 in another CD released by the NFF. The MP said that at the time of the transaction, Mustapha and Ahmed had not quit the government. He revealed that Mustapha had booked Room 205 and 202 to finalise the deal.
Musammil said that as agreed he accompanied Mustapha to a major Opposition media briefing on Friday to allow the media to record his presence among Opposition members before fleeing the premises. "They pursued me. I had to run a quite a distance before getting into a three wheeler near the UN in Colombo," he said.
A laughing Musammil said that the management of the Hotel Sapphire had subsequently contacted him asking for Mustapha’s contact numbers as he had not settled the payment for two rooms.

Ananda has said.
"Let me CATEGORICALLY state that I, Ananda-USA, has not expressed ANY FEAR of MR losing ground, in any of my posts. In fact, I have predicted a LANDSLIDE victory for MR."
**********************
People at different times at different places express different opinions. SF or his side says 99.9% of muslim vote is with SF and 90% of postal vote is with them.
Government side also claims such things eventhough not ludicrous as the SF camp.
When I assess all these things I strongly believe the sentiment that MR is going to win in a Landslide.
This is a belief formed on assessment of evidence. In my part it is not a prediction.
I believe that people cannot be that fools. They just have to listen to SF' speeches only to make the right decision.
Moreover even a very good Government at the start of a campaign suffers in opinion polls since voters express their emotions not their decision.
So a lot of people are expressing their emotions. Even at the very beginning MR was ahead.
At the voting time when they vote they will take into account the vast and spread development that has been taking place even during the war.
There are no drunkad people on the streets now (before the election time) and smoking in public places (roads) is rare.
Speed ticketing works.
This means that there is also evidence that law and order is also improving compared to the other times.
Law and order problems what we saw were largely due to SF and having to tolerate Ministers discretions to keep the Government in place to continue the war. These were also minimal. What was prominent was Mervin and the perception that the Government created selective application of law. (This latter has also recently stopped.)
I am hopeful people will punish all the traitors harshly at the poll
UNP crybabies already started discrediting elections:
Postal voting was not free and fair – CaFFE

/Ninja what is the pulse of the people with regards to Gonseka? Can you please give us more updates (sorry if I sound like I am asking for bus service like thing from you)?/
As far as I know, more than 90% have already decided, and unchanged. I don't think they will change their mind in week. Others will vote for either side. There is also a set who will not vote. I don't see a trend for either side either.
/Many of us have to rely on phone calls into SL rather than being in SL itself to feel the mood. We are really worried, news of Gonseka "having support"/not much enthusiastic support for MR is frightening./
This is democracy. Whoever gets more votes will win. If more people want Gonseka so be it. I respect democracy and choice of people of my country. But we need free and fair election without Gonseka's death squad killing people.
What I know as a fact is that the majority of Sri Lankan voters are usually deciding to vote on party lines. There are some cross over’s but they will not decide the outcome. The remaining fraction has assorted reasons to vote either to incumbent or opposition. Most of these reasons are attributed to cost of living, hardships at family level, law and order of the immediate surroundings, personal gain or loss and perceived image of the candidate and his supporters. The remaining fraction also decides who will win the race.
Without being subjected to and associated with the large cross section of that minor fraction; it will be a guess for anybody to comprehend intelligently what they will do on the Election Day.
Change is desirable to many people who are struggling at present but MR has the appeal of being known to many ordinary people as a good and less risky leader.
Norway paying for crowds as well?
Inquiries shed new light on Hungama shooting
Meanwhile, the husband of the woman, who was killed in the Hungama incident, testifying at the inquest on the death of the woman, said that his family for generations has been supporters of the Rajapaksas. And that at all elections, they had voted for President Rajapaksa and the President had provided jobs to several members of the family. The deceased too had been an SLFP supporter and she had left home saying that she was going to attend a meeting where pairs of spectacles were to be distributed free.

^^ Moshe, this might explain the increase in number in Gonseka rallies.
Swarnajith Udana said...
He was chosen only because of his ruthlessness. I have been told that he might be resposnsible for many acts committed in the war field and war area that you and I do not and cannot sanction.
*************
So SF committed war crimes according to you and therefore MR, by his own statement of full responsibility for the actions of those who served under his direction, is also a war criminal.
I actually agree and wrote the following censored letter to the Sunday Leader that touched on this issue.
"MR finds himself in a difficult position of his own doing and in trying to make the best of a bad decision (calling an election well ahead of schedule) has helped show the world what a difficult situation Sri Lanka finds itself in.
Between himself and SF it is obvious that the next President is going to be one with a murky financial past, a possible war-crimes indictment waiting for them as well as some inescapable complicity in any number of nefarious activities ranging from white van episodes to cover-ups in judicial investigations.
Neither of these men have hands clean enough to slaughter chickens, let alone hold anything close to a torch of democracy, but they remain the only politically viable choices.
As the lesser of two evils SF represents corruption on a smaller scale but only because MR and his family have turned out to be massively insensitive to any and all laws and have firmly entrenched themselves in private and Government business... good luck trying to clean up a clan like that.
This foolishly called election, as well as the ensuing and immensely indiscreet personal attacks between former allies, is going to result in a race where nobody wins. The real question is how to contain the losses and those losses will be both monetary as well as loss of face on the world stage.
Whoever wins is going to be answering for a number of war actions on and off the battlefield in addition to trying to avoid corruption charges and all the while having to follow-up charges made against their vanquished opponent.
If SF looses and faces corruption and treason charges does anyone think he will go gently into the night? If SF wins he faces the daunting prospect of dismantling the Rajapaksa "family business/government racket" and surely MR is not going to take that lightly.
How could SF not send MR and his family through an extensive investigation after all he and his side have promised in terms of dealing with corruption? How can a victorious MR not send SF to the dock for the many criminal acts he and his cronies have claimed of SF?
Sri Lanka does not need some dark and mysterious international conspiracy to cause it great hardship... its wounds are self-inflicted by men whose egos and greed are purely home-grown and without personal or national boundaries.
That MR would use any means possible to ensure victory should come as no surprise to anyone be it legal or otherwise and one need only look at the way he and his government conducted their war on journalists and the war against the terrorists.
At a time when the country needs leaders who understand and can deal in compromise we are about to see everything wrong with being forced to elect unworthy men in an unnecessary election during an ill-chosen time.
All of this falls onto the shoulders of MR who deserves to lose the election if only for being so stupid to call it in the first place."

pol,
bullshit!
1. these photos were published in defence.lk as the battle progressed.
is you look at them (e.g. the kilinochchi battle LTTE victims) they are in civlian clothes. VERY VERY few tigers killed in the battle field are in tiger uniform.
these photos are in the IC already and there is nothing wrong with that.
they know LTTE are terrorists and terrorists don't fight in uniform!!!!
2. war crimes BS are not based on posters based on published photos.
3. GR's decision to stop is due to "what if they find their way to the south." this is not likely if we distribute them very close to the election date by a group with a stupid name.
4. the next reason is he BELIEVES EVERYTHING we did in the war was right (i too agree 100%) and everyone in the world in their right mind MUST say we were 100% right 100% of the time..
now this is idiotic. it is like saying "ONLY INTELLIGENT PPL CAN SEE THE CLOTHES OF THE KING WHICH ARE INVICIBLE TO OTHERS".
pol,
it certainly does.
bloody NGOs are working with gonseka with money and resources. anyway there is nothing we can do to stop them.
i also received news that gonseka buggers are buying polling cards and IDs for rs. 7,500 each. some have already give them. they will be returned on 28 jan. some have been asked to apply for new IDs!!!! during election time they issue new IDs quickly.
gonseka is the king of corruption. no one can beat him in spending.
mi,
the sunday leader editorial is good. it generally reflects my views on the thing too.
MR should have held a GE in july/august 2009 and then a PE later.
we discussed this b4.
Dublin tribunal finds against Sri Lanka Government on charges of war crimes:
War crimes are "violations of the laws or customs of war"; including "murder, the ill-treatment or deportation of civilian residents of an occupied territory to slave labor camps", "the murder or ill-treatment of prisoners of war", the killing of hostages, "the wanton destruction of cities, towns and villages, and any devastation not justified by military, or civilian necessity".
Many of these customary laws were clarified in the Hague Conventions of 1899 and 1907. The modern concept of war crime was further developed under the auspices of the Nuremberg Trials based on the definition in the London Charter that was published on August 8, 1945. (Also see Nuremberg Principles.) Along with war crimes the charter also defined crimes against peace and crimes against humanity, which are often committed during wars and in concert with war crimes.
Prior to 1950 we hardly heard the term terrorism. However, from 1970 onwards terrorism established itself as a way of fighting against mighty and the powerful by sections of oppressed. War crime laws were not changed accordingly. For an instant fighting a war with civilian cloth is a military crime that can be punished with death and terrorists just do that everywhere. Terrorist is an armed civilian who has intentions to kill anybody to fulfil orders from another terrorist. He just follows the order whether consequences are justified or not. There are many similar differences between how conventional armies fight and terrorist armies fight. Therefore, fighting terrorism require new laws to make it efficient and manageable.
Ambiguity of the term
Because the definition of a state of "war" may be debated, the term "war crime" itself has seen different usage under different systems of international and military law. It has some degree of application outside of what some may consider being a state of "war," but in areas where conflicts persist enough to constitute social instability.
The legalities of war have sometimes been accused of containing favoritism toward the winners ("Victor's justice"), as certain controversies have not been ruled as war crimes. Some examples include the Allies' destruction of civilian Axis targets during World War I and World War II (the firebombing of the German city of Dresden is one such example), the use of atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in World War II; the use of Agent Orange against civilian targets in the Vietnam war; the mass killing of Biharies by Kader Siddique and Mukti Bahini before or after victory of Bangladesh Liberation War in Bangladesh between 1971 and 1972; and the Indonesian occupation of East Timor between 1976 and 1999.
Another example is the Allied re-designation of German POWs (under the protection of the Geneva conventions) into Disarmed Enemy Forces (allegedly unprotected by the Geneva conventions), many of which then were used for forced labor such as clearing minefields. By December 1945 it was estimated by French authorities that 2,000 German prisoners were being killed or maimed each month in mine-clearing accidents.
In areas where International Law is yet unresolved, some ambiguity remains with regard to which crimes are considered as such and which are not.
TBC....
War Crimes... continue,
Justification of war crimes:
Therefore, just before accusing Sri Lankan authorities of possible war crimes committed during the war against terror. Interested parties should consider following facts:
1. LTTE is the most organised, ruthless and vicious terrorist group ever known to the world.
2. They possessed highly successful and unlawful machinery to raise funds at unbelievable levels.
3. They possessed well oiled arms supply.
4. There were few foreign countries supplying arms, ammunitions and other war materials as well as conducting warfare training covertly to the LTTE.
5. They possessed conventional type army resort to guerrilla warfare as well as they were trained to attack civilians and infrastructure to cause maximum damage.
6. They possessed dedicated suicide cadres to cause maximum mayhem.
7. They possessed well equipped trams to launch amphibious attacks.
8. They even possessed so called air force which carried out number of aerial attacks.
9. They were collecting unlawful taxes from civilians and even conducted kangaroo courts to punish those civilians do not obey to them.
Being a third world poor country; Sri Lanka suffered many hardships at the hands of terrorists during last 26 years. Not only, were they left alone by international community without supporting to fight terrorism some well known countries support the terrorists openly. If Sri Lanka were to protect human rights fully and observe all conventional rules to fight the unconventional war of terror; it would have ended by giving into all demands by the terrorists. Instead, Sri Lanka fought back with courage and determination to end the war within three years.
Sri Lanka should have been commended by the west for achieving long lasting peace decisively instead they rallied to condemned the SLG for human right violation and levelled alleged war crimes against it in order to cover their own inefficiency of containing terrorism.
It is time for west to stop acting like politically correct buffoons who are not good at anything but be proactive to eradicate terrorism by adopting effective measures against it.
If they want to send a clear and concise message to the remaining terrorist factions of the world; they should praise Sri Lanka for its achievement by ending the 30 year long war with terror and change the war crime laws to a new level to fight the terror effectively.

re: channel 4
it is NOT REAL for the purpose it is used.
1. there is no evidence the guys in uniform are SLA, STF. the sounds are not consistent with the moves.
2. there is no evidence the victims were LTTE or tamils
3. there is absolutely no evidence as to the time it happened.
4. some technical disparities still exist and neutral experts have stated this.
5. the SAME thing with tamil voices in the background with perfect sound-move synchronisation is also in circulation. it's credibility is as same as the channel-4 video. not less.
Moshe i miss understood what type of photos you meant, if these are ones from the war wouldn't they sort of boost Gonseka's war credentials, in the South? These things will not stay in the North, they will get to the South. UNP/JVP/Mangala would bring them to the south!
GR is right in this regard.
the next reason is he BELIEVES EVERYTHING we did in the war was right (i too agree 100%) and everyone in the world in their right mind MUST say we were 100% right 100% of the time..
Its primarily the West which is saying "we were wrong" (how we were wrong in ending a war they enjoyed and benefited in is anyones guess) but we must ensure their propaganda does not contaminate the world view with regards to us. So GR is right here too, we have to fight every bogus and concocted allegation and crap they throw at us designed to prove their view (we were wrong) as the only right view. They are still furious at SL for ending the war and also defying their "authority" so defiantly. We cannot allow them to be successful in tainting us and punishing us and our soldiers, for bringing our people real sustainable peace, which they are desperately trying to undo.
i also received news that gonseka buggers are buying polling cards and IDs for rs. 7,500 each. some have already give them. they will be returned on 28 jan. some have been asked to apply for new IDs!!!! during election time they issue new IDs quickly.

Sam,

Would not surprise me if he/she is associated with JDS.
Funnily enough even UN Secretary Moon distanced himself from Alston. The latter clown is still fuming after his very public humiliation back in September.
Dis Information the Terrorist Scummy,
It is good to deal with a terrorist monkey like you every once in a while. I remember you tried to teach us the methods of infrastructure restoration.
Now now, little monkey, lets assume for a moment that Ch-4 clip is real. What is the basis of your allegation that it was done by a SLA soldier? Can you identify if the "fallen" were LTTE members? Can you identify the man who shot others? Can you identify the location and the time of the incident? Can you tell us why the voice recording is totally non nonsensical for the context?
I am waiting for your answers.
pol,
yes they do.
that's why we have to do it just a few days to the election or preferably ON THE election day!!!!
and ONLY in the areas i specified under the name of some NGO. can be a mythical NGO like "intellectuals to protect tamil ppl".
it is do-able as you know!!
not only the west. a large number of SLs too believe that. instead of calling them idiots we should make use of it to help tamils boycot the election.
some patriotic org.s around the world have decided to stay neutral on the election.
this is absurd.

in that case staying neutral is ok.
but when

the neutral buggers actually support peaceful separatists.
for those orgs. still following neutrality....
1. present your conditions to both candidates
2. ask them to file answers in 3 days
3. make a decision based on that. no answer = the answer is unspeakable!!

These acts that I have been told may have occured befor MR's time. I am not sure. Also I believe that these kind of acts might have occured on an isolated basis even in the recent phase of the war but over all it was a great humanitarian effort.
Do not come here and say, in whatever form, that dsetruction of the LTTE was wrong or one should not have sought the defeat of the LTTE since it would also inadvertantly have killed innocent Tamil civilians. If one says that, in whatever form, it is just the crudest form of inhumanity.
Even though I am a humanist, I do not seek complete ellimination of vilonce since if I do then I need to campaign for disbanding police, jail and legal courts.
This would create even more vilonce.
My view is that SF should have kicked out of Army long time ago with a long jail term. This did not happen. This is a true reflection of our society.
This is a man's world. How did such a devilish animal wear the uniform for such a long time. How come MR and GR made us serenade for the Zero. How could they create an image of hero out of a devilish, cowardice, meek and timid brute? I criticise MR and GR for that.
Apart from that I admire a lot of things about MR &GR and I do think MR is the best avaialble and election of SF paves the condition for a kingdom of Idi Amin.
At the moment what is at risk is National Security. We have a choice of a Devil and a normal human being with some great weaknesses and great strengths. Choice is clear.
MR had to operate in a very difficult time but MR needs to take the responsiblity of all the cover ups he did for SF.
I ask all of you, do not use this (my) statement to justify SF's victory or to say that we should boycot the election.
MR's decsision to go for a PE is the right one since if he did not he would have looked like a lame duck. Also to get a proper choice of nomination for GE he should first need to get the authority from the people.
Some of faults of MR are also aggrevated by corrupt system, unsuitable consttitution, war and the opportunistic nature of the opposition.
However, among thousand lies, the opposition has been saying truths also. So we should not have completely disregard what the oppostion was saying regardless how corrupt, treachorous and untrustworhty the opposition is.
Sam Perera, gentleman that he is said...
....lets assume for a moment that Ch-4 clip is real. What is the basis of your allegation that it was done by a SLA soldier? Can you identify the man who shot others? Can you identify the location and the time of the incident? Can you tell us why the voice recording is totally non nonsensical for the context?
Always a pleasure to enjoy reasonable discourse with you Sam.
Let me give you a little insight as to how a forensic examiner would present this to a court.
The first thing you need to understand is that the examination is called to determine whether or not the taping episode has been altered or if it represents a truthful picture of the event in terms of "alterations".
In this case there is little doubt that the events depicted are real and the recording of the events as captured have not seen alterations. So far four independent experts have testified to this and to my knowledge no GoSL examiner has provided empirical evidence to the contrary.
So the first conclusion supports the killing of those men.
Their deaths are real.
Further conclusions regarding the circumstances around the killings are a different matter.
An examiner might further work with other experts to try and match the faces with names but that is an additional matter and until then an examiner would be loathe to further conclusions.
If this were a case I was involved with my testimony would have nothing to do with concluding who made the recording... either a soldier at an execution or a person who was part of a deception.
In other words, from a technical point of view the footage is real and those men were killed but it would not prove conclusively that the event itself could not be have been staged... only that the footage was not altered.
There is proof the footage is real.
There is strong suggestion the event was not staged but no conclusive evidence to be able to say with certainty it is a Sri Lankan soldier pulling the trigger.
Most courts I am familiar with would not accept the video on its own as proof that the perpetrators were GoSL troops. Additional evidence would be needed to prove that part of it conclusively.
As for your audio related question... the handling of gathered frequencies, in this case the audio and video bands, is not even handed in terms of related processing power within the capture device. There are plenty of detailed discussion on the subject and in particular the audio aspect of this capture.
They will provide a more detailed answer for you... I can't be arsed to write an technical explanation on it as it it a well known issue every place that audio and video meet... pre and post-production.
}{MI}{
Dis Information the Terrorist Scummy,
An examiner might further work with other experts to try and match the faces with names but that is an additional matter and until then an examiner would be loathe to further conclusions.

Now the little terrorist, the bottom line is that there is no way to point this video to a particular geographical location, time, and a group even if the footage is real. None of your hired experts has explained how the video was dated to July-2009. If you can understand Sinhala, you will realize that the dubbed dialog or monologue is totally out of context for the alleged incident. This is akin to presenting that blurry "Big Foot" video as evidence to it's existence. We know that you have not given up conspiracy against Sri Lanka yet. However, this fake evidence proves nothing since it is fake.
Asithri+Others,
My measure is based on floating voters only. We have a bloc of ~20-25 mill [20%-25%] voters who do not always vote for one party throughout time. And that bloc was almost all in MR camp by May19. Even in 2005 a vast majority of it was in MR camp [by then it was all he had]. But right now, there is a major swing among them. I am stating this based on my friends throughout the island, not only in cities.
My idea about Hicorp, the propa campaign or MR etc was based on their response on the news. These allegations have made MR supporters stronger, but haven't won anyone from other side. Breakaway floating voters of SF do not think it is true. They do not believe in ITN, Hudson etc. In fact it is their hatred on such channels/ppl, that made them break.
Yes you're right that Muza case is an attempted remedy for Hicorp, yet the breakaway gang does not believe so. What matters is not the voters secured by MR, but the ones who departed.
With this swing still SF has to secure the base votes. Breakaway floating voters are direct SF supporters but the rest of UNP [25%] JVP[5%] and Tamil [5-10%] voters are supporters of other symbols, borrowed by SF.
So I didn't mean SF can win, I am only reporting this swing, which is in fact what we can call as a trend. Hope it won't be an avalanche.
How iNGOs and NGOs render National Governments helpless in developing countries
Yesterday, on the Charlie Rose program on the Public Broadcasting System, I heard several Haiti experts discuss the issue of how to tackle the Earthquake Disaster in Haiti.
Two of these experts said that the TOTAL INEFFECTIVENESS of the Haitian Govt in disaster relief to date is partly due to the fact that the Govt of Haiti has been rendered TOTALLY Powerless within their OWN country, and TOTALLY BEREFT OF RESOURCES to ACT, because over a long period AID DONOR COUNTRIES BYPASSED THE National Government, and provided ANY and ALL AID through iNGOs and NGOs. Now, hypocritically, they BEMOAN the lack of a government to help the people.
Yesterday, I also heard US Vice-President Joe Biden stressing that the Haitian Govt needs to be strengthened, and enabled to Effectively Administer its own territory.
It is PRECISELY THIS POINT that I, and many other Patriots, have REPEATEDLY made about Foreign Aid given to Sri Lanka. ALL AID must come directly through the National Government, because it is the Government that is ultimately responsible for assuring the welfare of the people under both NORMAL and DISASTER conditions, and its authority over its own territory must NOT BE UNDERMINED, for LIVES depend upon it.
If instead, over many decades, all aid is channelled through iNGOs and NGOs, circumventing and undermining the National Government, in effect the Government will have neither the AUTHORITY, nor the RESOURCES to ACT on BEHALF of the people.
When the tsunami struck Sri Lanka, the Govt and the LOCAL people of Sri Lanka acted much more effectively than ANY OTHER COUNTRY affected by the tsunami, especially in its IMMEDIATE AFTERMATH. That is because over the years Sri Lanka had developed the concept of Sramadana, or self-help, and the Govt still retained sufficient cohesion and independence from foreign organizations to ACT decisively.
However, during the last 3 decades, Sri Lanka was SPIRALLING down the slippery path leading to a TOOTHLESS and POWERLESS Government under the tender care of Western lackeys like Ranil Wickramasinghe who allowed iNGOs and NGOs to grow an all enslaving web in the service of foreign agendas as VIRTUAL SUB-NATIONAL ENTITIES, above and immune to the law of the land.
It is only when a MASSIVE HUMANITARIAN DISASTER that cannot be blamed on politics occurs, like that in Haiti, and the bankruptcy of non-existent toothless governments are EXPOSED TO ALL, that these very same pundits put their finger on the CAUSE of it: Interference in Sovereign Nations by Foreign Countries plying their parochial agendas while shedding copious tears on human rights abuses attributed to the Government that they HAVE HOBBLED & RENDERED HELPLESS!
For 30 years, Sri Lanka saw the massive growth of an iNGO and NGO INDUSTRY loyal to foreign nations. It is only by the Grace of God, that the war-winning Mahinda Rajapaksa GOSL overcame these chains of bondage to re-assert Sri Lanka's Sovereignty.
In view of Haiti's agony and inability to effectively respond AT ALL, ON ITS OWN, to a natural disaster, and the HOBBLING CHAINS that held Sri Lanka captive to foreign and separatist agendas in the past 3 decades, I hope & pray that MR will overcome the iNGO and foreign funded opposition, and will be RE_ELECTED to COMPLETE THE EXPULSION & BRINGING-TO-HEEL of these enslaving foreign influences in Sri Lanka.

SO, one assertion "Their deaths are real." is backed up and "proved" by another assertion "there is little doubt that the events depicted are real".
You say four "independent experts" have provided testimony that they are real.
Independent experts .. my bloody foot ... hired by the LTTE diaspora, composed of the LTTE diaspora, working for the LTTE diaspora .. like that "independent" US attorney who keeps filing "war crimes" charges .. paid $100,000 per month.
And "testified" where? ... in front of a self-appointed tribunal .. setup, aided, abetted and funded by the LTTE diaspora? Using the title of "Tribunal" to convey some "legitimacy" to another group of LTTE terrorist zealots! LoL!
BTW, there was at least one internationally renowned "independent expert" who said the video was a fake; he published his proof on the web.

Nation's Stability again in Peril!
As the cat jumps out of the bag
By Special Correspondent
Sri Lanka has spent almost 30 out of 60 years of her independence in a turmoil that brought horrendous sufferings to her people. The country has failed to achieve the development that has been achieved by some of her fellow nations in the region. Interestingly, Sri Lanka never had dictators, communist regimes, or rulers belonging to religious or racial extremist groups in her history. Yet, we have failed to achieve stability to bolster sustainable development. The reasons for our inability to do so, if looked at closely were partly internal and partly external.
Our political leaders and of course the people who elected them had made serious mistakes that were ultimately detrimental to the country. Also, there is ample evidence how external interlopers have capitalized on our mistakes to keep us under their jackboots. The recently ended terrorist war is the best example.
The focus of this article is not to dig the past and conduct a post-mortem. It is to understand what is happening around us now, comparing to what had happened in the past. Now, the war has been won against terrorism, and we are located in a region where the economy is rapidly growing. The opportunity is certainly there for us to achieve prosperity in the near future. What can deny us of that achievement is the instability of our nation.
Rise of the "care-taken" candidate
For the first time in our country's history a military leader is seeking power in the nation. Ex-military men coming into politics through democratic means is not a strange phenomenon. Yet, the majority of them have come to politics after getting sufficient experience through actively participating in party politics. Such leaders never sold their military careers but had the political vision to win elections.
There is of course, another type of military leader, who comes into politics by undemocratic means. They sell no political vision but grab power by treason and end up as dictators. We have more than enough examples for such unfortunate countries in the modern world. After careful thought, one can see that retired General Sarath Fonseka falls into the category of those who run military juntas rather than an ex- serviceman coming into mainstream politics. The best way to understand this, is to compare Fonseka with Dwight Eisenhower, an ex army general who became President in the United States.
Nation's Stability again in Peril!
.......continued 1 .....
S. Fonseka Vs. Dwight Eisenhower
........
Fonseka comes into politics months after winning the war in which he too played a key role
Eisenhower came into politics 8 years after the World War II in which he too played a key role
.......
Fonseka has gained no political experience or any experience in governing civilian organizations
Eisenhower was the president of the Columbia University and thereafter appointed the Supreme Commander of the NATO
......
Fonseka has no political party , no political vision, simply tries to capitalize on his popularity as a war hero , rather than a politician with a serious political ideology
Eisenhower was the candidate of the Republican Party, one of the two main political parties of the US. He represented the political vision of the party and did not try to market his battlefield achievements to gain popularity
......
Fonseka comes into politics as a result of an estrangement with his Commander-in-Chief. His main ambition is to avenge the President and his family
Eisenhower never challenged his commander in chief. He came into politics with a serious political vision for the country but not to avenge anybody
......
Fonseka is backed by an assortment of political parties with extremely conflicting political interests
Eisenhower followed the political path of Republican party
......
Fonseka is an ordinary army officer educated up to ordinary level and with a dubious character.
Eisenhower was an intellectual with clean character in the army
.......
More careful thought to the comparison given above helps us to perceive the situation that Fonseka has to face in case he becomes the president. How he is going to manage the conflicting interest of the parties backing him? How is he going to establish law and order if he loses the support of Parliament? With the kind of motives that brought him to politics, can he be expected to strip off the powers of the Executive Presidency and hand over the country to Ranil Wickremesinghe? Total anarchy at the next budget will be the sure result if he was really elected President. Thus, the very idea of Fonseka becoming the President means losing the nation's stability.
Nation's Stability again in Peril!
.......continued 2 .....
Political bankruptcy
When we look at the political parties lined up behind Fonseka, there is only one resemblance among them. That is, they all were dead against the war on terror successfully accomplished by President Rajapaksa. If we look at their behaviour in the past in brief:
UNP- is party that failed to control Black July and breathed life into the LTTE. It was during their regime that LTTE rose itself from an armed mob into an international terrorists outfit. During the CBK regime the UNP never supported the armed forces, instead linked itself with the NGOs and other international conspirators that helped the LTTE. In 2002, when LTTE was almost on its last legs, UNP signed a peace accord with it and saved the outfit. Until the last moment of the war UNP tried to convince the people that it is unwinnable, acted in complicity with terrorist propaganda and tried to bring international pressure on the government, tried to destroy the economic stability with various conspiracies.
JVP- is the party that destroyed two generations of youth and denied the country's opportunity to be developed. In the 80s the party organized a bloody insurgency in the South when the armed forces were fighting terrorism in the North. It murdered members of the armed forces and destroyed the stability of the country. Thus, the JVP was instrumental in dragging the war another two decades. In 2005, the party backed Mahinda Rajapaksa but soon opposed the government when it started fighting the war against LTTE. During the whole span of war under the Rajapaksa regime it tried to destroy the nation's stability with a series of unsuccessful strikes, and protests.
TNA- is not a political party but a group comprising terrorist agents sent to parliament by the terrorist outfit itself. The party actively participated in promoting the LTTE and its terrorist activities. The country's victory over terrorism is therefore a defeat for the TNA. Its political ideology is based on tribalism and still poses a serious threat to the nation's stability.
SLMC- is a party that has not delivered any good to the community it claims to represent. Its current leaders are trying to gain advantage by promoting racial politics but have not received enough support from the public. The current leader of the party teamed up with the UNP and the lot and did everything possible to stop the war effort
The above are just the key parties worth mentioning in the Fonseka side. The results of the series of elections held during the last three years show the political bankruptcy suffered by them. It can be reasonably assumed that the reason for their unpopularity was their expressed opposition to the government's war effort against terror. In other words, their constant effort to damage nation's stability has ruined their vote base.
Hence, it is natural for these political forces that acted against the nation's stability throughout their existence, to select Fonseka to back in this election. Their strategy can be defined with the local proverbial expression "cutting the pork on the pig itself" as they are trying to exploit a defected war hero to avenge the President. Luckily, their vicious agenda is no longer a secret.
Nation's Stability again in Peril!
.......continued 3 .....
The Cat out of the Bag
Finally, retired General Fonseka has managed to come up with his manifesto or policy for the election. Although some see a resemblance with "Podi Ekage Liyuma" (a letter written by a child) in Fonseka's ten point policy, the message it gives is extremely dangerous with regarding what is happening around us today.
In his "policy", Fonseka is loudly silent on the territorial integrity of the country. He does not give any clue about how he is going to address the problems of the Tamil speaking people. Also, there is no timeline relating to his promise of abolishing the Executive Presidency. It would be interesting to know why, for a man who makes bovine promises such as 10,000 rupees pay hikes, free land for everyone, corruption free country within 72 hours; etc could not tell anything about the serious issues directly relating to country's stability.
However, one of the very first things that Fonseka did after coming into politics was the implication of the Defence Secretary and the soldiers in war crimes charges, long being speculated by his new allies. He made a statement to Sri Lanka's number one scandal mongering newspaper that Defence Secretary and Brigadier Shavendra Silva had ordered to kill surrendering LTTE terrorists.
Though Fonseka denied having made such a statement to the newspaper, the newspaper's editor stood by her story. Ironically, Fonseka is now going to sue the government media for making false charges against him but not against the newspaper that really exposed his betrayal that he publicly denied.
However, the pact between Fonseka and the Newspaper was later given away by the newspaper editor in her article "Her Story" published on the same newspaper. There she had exposed her intention of bringing discredit to the Sri Lanka armed forces, and allowing her paymasters in the West to exert pressure on the government that did not heed to their orders. Also, her subtle desire to receive a violent response from the government to her so called "explosive" news to gain propaganda mileage was also evident. The most interesting part is her expressed disappointment over the government response.
According to her, the newspaper company had strengthened its security and was eagerly waiting for a violent response, but was utterly disappointed over the lost opportunity. The absence of such a response, according to her view, is the learning capability of the Rajapaksa government. However, it might be also possible that the person who was behind such responses in the past is now on their side or they themselves have staged managed those events without being overly confident about government's foolhardiness.
Despite Fonseka's betrayal becoming counterproductive to his election campaign, the forces backing him are trying to get the best advantage from it. The UN response, resurrection of the Channel 4 canard, and renewal of war crimes charges were the targeted outcomes of their sordid project.
Now, more evidence of the hidden agenda behind Fonseka gambit is surfacing. The so-called war hero who claims sole credit for the war victory has apparently signed a pact with the proxy LTTE group TNA. According to TNA leader, R. Sambandan, Fonseka has agreed to re-merge the North and Eastern Provinces, remove High Security Zones and also to offer self-determination powers. The hired LTTE mouthpiece Wickramabahu Karunarathne recently confirmed Fonseka's acceptance of a separate Tamil homeland.
Moreover, SLMC leader Rauff Hakim recently stated that Fonseka would only be an interim solution "current state of affairs". According to the Daily Mirror (Jan 9) he stated that TNA had laid the foundation to take over administration of the "their motherland and they should grasp the opportunity with both hands".
The decision is yours
Nation's Stability again in Peril!
.......continued 4 .....
One need not wear politically coloured glasses to comprehend the situation described above. We can see the critical juncture where our country has come today. The logic is clear. There exists a group of political forces that do not desire to see Sri Lanka as stable nation; they have defected a weak individual from the opposing side to act as a pawn for them, and what is happening around us suggests that their desire to damage nation's stability has not changed at all.
Therefore, the situation requires a well calculated decision from the public. It is for us to decide whether to make the same mistake made by us in the past or not. Irrespective of our ethnicity or religion the decision is equally important for all of us. Chauvinistic forces that unleashed Black July did no good to our country, nor did the Tribalism coined by LTTE and TNA. Religious fundamentalism will only make our country another Afghanistan or a Pakistan. Those are the forces that can destroy a nation's stability. Also, the parties who back such forces directly or indirectly are much more dangerous than the forces themselves.
Aren't we living in a much better, safer and stable country that we lived three years before? Are we going to risk our future with a set of people that had done no good for the country? That Stability is essential for prosperity, and that the hard earned stability of the nation is again at risk, is my message.
Janus US Mutual Fund Group displaces Raj Rajaratnam's Galleon Fund Group as biggest shareholder in John Keels Holdings
...........
Janus Fund holds 13% of JKH on behalf of unidentified clients
A big US-based investment advisory fund, Janus Capital Management LLC, last week reported to the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) that it was holding nearly 75 million JKH shares as at January 6, 2010 amounting to 12.23% of the biggest market capitalized blue chip quoted on the Colombo bourse.
Analysts said that since Janus made its Stock Exchange filing, its holding had grown to around 78 million shares making it the second biggest shareholder of JKH displacing Mr. Raj Rajaratnam and his Galleon Fund which had exited from the conglomerate taking a substantial capital gain.
In its January 7 Stock Exchange filing, Janus of Detroit Street, Denver, Colorado, said that it was registered under the US Investment Advisors Act of 1940 and that it provides investment advice to various mutual funds and other accounts.
"The shares of the company are held by Janus on behalf of various Janus clients only for investment purposes and not to exercise control over the company," the filing said.
It explained that Janus held all shares attributed to it solely in its capacity as investment advisers to its clients and it had no economic interest (e.g. the right to dividends or proceeds from sale) in the company’s shares.
The Stock Exchange disclosure was under rule 36 of the Takeovers and Mergers Code of 1995 as it is required to report the holdings of over 10% of listed companies.
"Janus generally has the right to vote shares of portfolio companies held on behalf of Janus clients," the filing said but did not identify the clients on behalf of which the fund was holding JKH shares. It merely indicated that it was holding them "on behalf of various Janus clients."
The Stock Exchange filing to the CSE was signed by the fund’s Senior Compliance Analysts, Kathy Valenta.
One gets to be lucky only now and then…
But humble OaOA gets to be lucky even less, but not today…
Today "Miss Information" the LTTE whorebitch has decided to visit and defecate in this blog (genetics, what can I say; a road shitting sakkiliya will always find a place to defecate if no road is found!)
LMSSAO!!! Truly LMSSAO!!!
Yes whorebitch, the audio and even the video (the fuzzy one was released to the media; the real one with clarity I am told is kept for the Court) as far as I am concerned is entirely BELIEVABLE, ACCEPTABLE, as it is NOT done by your LTTE whorebitches like in the Ch4 one.
Ch4 one was recorded on a cell phone, allegedly by a SLA grunt (ha ha ha, yes, it was claimed to have been recorded in Jan 2009 whereas the digital clock on the track says it was recorded in July 2009!) ha ha ha…and the white-racist, anti-SL UN gook Alston said it was so likely because the SLA grunt may have changed the digital clock on his cell phone (i.e. put it forward) just to avoid tracing the video back to him! (yes, the grunt, being the sophisticated forensic expert that he is, thought of doing so in the heat of the killing/battle frenzy uh? Wow!)!!!
Way to go whorebitch!!! How ludicrous can this get beyond this ???
Hey LTTE whorebitch, just to digress a bit...
I meant to tell you earlier...I kinda love your picture. She gives me a hard-on. I know she is your mother, but hey I am horny for her as I love the MILF, the elderly type.
Whorebitch, could you please tell her to wear even a shorter mini-skirt for the next picture you post with your ID? I love to see the hem of her mini just 1 cm below her fungal-rotting, gingerly oil reeking vulva.
At least I am honest...TRANSPARENCY should be the name of the game (as SF whoredog said uh?)
LMSSAO!!! Truly LMSSAO!!!
OaO Asithri
administrators,
pls check your mail.
Why do I get this undeniable distinct feeling that we are fighting the LTTE whores once again at this moment...that our RANAVIRUS are in the thick of the battle, capturing one earth-bund after another and also that GOSL is battling to keep out the pro-LTTE busybody white-gooky NGOs, pro-LTTE local NGOs, and also Tamil-vote hungry western politicos at bay?
What a sense of deja-vu I am having!
Mmmmm...I wonder why ???
Time to load up the RM-70s and get ready. Keeping to the time-proven doctrine "end justifies the means" it is time to adhere to:
"terminate with extreme prejudice"
"take no prisoner"
"scorched earth"
I only hope MR GOSL is too adopting a similar stance; if not they will only have to blame themselves for their demise at the swords of the "invaders" !!!
OaO Asithri

[These allegations (about HiCorp) have made MR supporters stronger, but haven't won anyone from other side.]
"anyone" ???
Wow! This is a pretty bold statement to make and do you have substantiation for making this statement?
On the contrary, my information (including my personal experiences) tells me many a former "SF is the white kinght" thinking supporter is now having second thoughts about supporting SF after this was publicized - not only by the ITN etc. but by other sites including the AT, BBC (Yes, BBC which has been traditionally pro-LTTE/eelam todate).
So, before you make this type of crass, blanket statements here I urge you to do some "realty checks" as your willy-nilly done statements can and do give the LTTE supporting opposition bitches a morale boost.

"Sri Lanka vote raises hopes in Washington
By Shaun Tandon (AFP) – 2 hours ago
WASHINGTON — Sri Lanka's upcoming election is raising hopes in the United States for better relations after a chilly spell if the island turns the page on a bloody war that brought international opprobrium.
The January 26 election comes months after troops killed the top leadership of the Tamil Tigers, ending their ruthless decades-long separatist campaign but also triggering accusations of human rights abuses.
Asked if the election could change relations with Washington, a senior US official said: "It already has changed the dynamic in a positive way."
"A lot of the progress we've seen in the last two months or so is contributable at least in part to the election," the official told AFP on condition of anonymity.
Sri Lanka has recently moved on key international concerns including releasing thousands of Tamil civilians who had been held for months in rudimentary displacement camps.
The US official was upbeat about pledges made by Fonseka including greater media freedom and independent commissions to oversee the judiciary and other key institutions.
"I'm hesitant to make predictions about the future, because candidates promise all sorts of things and then they don't deliver, but certainly General Fonseka has been making some good pronunciations," he said.
But the United States has strongly denied allegations made by one ruling party legislator that it is funding the opposition.
Some Sri Lanka watchers in the West -- and especially the Tamil diaspora, which has been instrumental in pressing for a harder line on Sri Lanka -- are deeply ambivalent about Fonseka.
Fonseka, who holds a US green card, escaped questioning by US authorities about possible war crimes during a November visit after Sri Lanka summoned the US ambassador to protest.
"Fonseka would not be the US's first choice as president but if he wins it would at least open the door for a better US relationship," said Robert Oberst, a Sri Lanka expert at Nebraska Wesleyan University.
"His whole association with the military is what tarnishes him in part. If there were war crimes committed, he obviously knew about them and was involved," Oberst said.
Sri Lanka increasingly distanced itself from the West as it came under fire for its human rights record. It has built ties with China and Iran and last year hosted Myanmar's reclusive military leader Than Shwe.
But Asoka Bandarage, an associate professor at Georgetown University and author of the book, "The Separatist Conflict in Sri Lanka," doubted the former British colony would turn to Western rivals except out of economic necessity.
"I don't think that even ardent Sinhala nationalists would want Sri Lanka cut off from Western influence and that longstanding connection," she said.
The US official also believed Sri Lanka saw good US ties as a "long-term interest," noting that Western nations were the key market for its exports such as garments and tea.
Tamil diaspora activists have also seized on the economic dimension, launching a campaign urging a Western boycott of the island's products.
In one racy video under the slogan "No Blood for Panties," a muscle-ripped man undresses an impassioned young woman only to lose the mood when he discovers her underwear is made in Sri Lanka.
"There is really no fundamental choice between General Fonseka and Rajapakse because both were instrumental in launching this military offensive against the Tamil community," said Tasha Manoranjan, whose group, People for Equality and Relief in Sri Lanka, is running the boycott campaign.
"I think the day after the election there will no longer be any concern for the Tamil people," she said.
Yet some in the Tamil diaspora, where Mahinda Rajapakse is a loathed figure, are willing to give Fonseka at least a chance.
"The Tamil diaspora wants Mahinda to be defeated," said David Poopalapillai, national spokesman for the Canadian Tamil Congress.
"The climate would change and the rays of hope would come. It would bring some change in the country in the political climate," he said."
- AFP
There have been many surveys done about who is leading in the polls. But most of these were biased.
The two independant polls that I know of that were conducted all say that MR is leading by a sizable margin.
This is good. I hope MR can win by a sizable margin. The rural areas are all for MR. 70% of the people live in the rural areas.
Aisthiri:
For second time you are addressing me (SU) instead SK.
[The Tamil diaspora wants Mahinda to be defeated," said David Poopalapillai, national spokesman for the Canadian Tamil Congress]
Now is this rocket science ???
When this piece of Poop, a rabidly pro-LTTE motherfucker, goes to bat for SF whoredog, don't you see the writings on the wall ???
Do we Sinhela Partiots all need to be rocket scientists to figure out the danger we are in if SF whoredog is going to be our President next?
Amazing that still a segment of the Sinhela population (although far from the majority) is idiotically supporting this pro-LTTE whoredog for President ???
OaO Asithri
Expatriate Sri Lankans,
Please don’t expect a positive election outcome while doing nothing.
Get together with patriots and buy newspaper advertisements in support of Mahinda Rajapaksa. It is very easy for you to afford a newspaper ad in Lankadeepa, Daily Mirror, Veerakesari or any other popular newspapers.
Do your bit and be part of the victory.

Thanks for telling something the way it is and should be...without the fucked up niceties and misguided "a balanced view a must, even at the expense of hiding the truth" bullshit that others would resort to.
Mate, long time no hear...yep, I have known you since the LNP days when we were battling vile LTTE whores and I remember you were a true patriot then and am glad to see you are now too!
Cheers,

But I have not seen or responded to a post from Sujeewa Kokawala in a long time.
Rather, I have seen only posts from "Swarnajith Udana" and have responded to him by addressing him as "SU" !!!
Am I going crazy or what ???
Did I take the same mind-altering poison pill as SF the traitorous, LTTE kissing, whorebitch did ???
:)) :)) :))
OaO Asithri
Aisthiri:
For second time you addressed two posts to me (SU=Swarnajith Udana) that you should have addressed to Sujeeva Kothalawala. That is ok. I just wanted to make you aware.
It is your prerogative to use the language which you believe that reflects who you are.
It is my prerogative to condemn language which I beleive that does not reflect who I am.
Let us keep it like that. Please ignore my posts if you cannot use langauge which I prefer.
I will not offer further comments on this matter.
Asithri;
My prev statement;
[These allegations (about HiCorp) have made MR supporters stronger, but haven't won anyone from other side.]
Yeah I agree that I have no right to call it "anyone". However my experience with most converted SF supporters here is that they do not take Hicorp serious. Reason given is the source they heard it from.
What matters is numbers, and how many.
/What matters is numbers, and how many./
And we don't have exact numbers until 27.
And my experience is when some one says "party X / candidate X is going to win" then he expect, like and support that party or candidate.
Also when some one is a supporter of party X / candidate X, they usually say that party is going to win.
This is true for X = UNP/SLFP/JVP in general. Exceptions are also there.
I am experiencing the same thing this time too.
SU
Apologies. Yes, in the midst (and heat) of addressing your "goma drop" starting stream (pardon the pun :)), I did inadvertently respond to SK and did mix it up.
Assure you - will not happen again.
As for the language I use here, well it is indeed my prerogative to do so and you do not have to read or respond to me (I am quite used to it; many a LTTE whore who came to DA/DW and used their own "choice words" could not take my "style of expression" and gave up :-))
Again, apologies for the mix up.
OaO Asithri
I can say MR is heading 60% victory. But how can I prove my claim before 27? No way. 60% for MR is what I like and I have no evidence to support my claim. I can do a survey with my close friends, relatives and known people - I guess, less than 100. How can I generalize 100 sample set to a 15mn population? No way. I guess this is the situation for any average citizen. MR may get much reliable estimate via intel.
Aisthiri:
How nice of you! Apology is accepted. If the mix-up happpens again that is also alright.
We all make mistakes. When I criticise MR I try to remember that.
When one addresses or talke to me I expect the same respect I pay them.
SK
[However my experience with most converted SF supporters here is that they do not take Hicorp serious. Reason given is the source they heard it from.]
Strangely, no one that I talked to questioned the "source" as the problem (they knew that you cannot concoct a story involving US Law Enforcement), but rather some had skepticism along the lines "why now? did not the govt know about this before" although they were devastated with the news nevertheless, with most deciding to not support SF (at least until the Court clears him/his SIL).
OaO Asithri
SU
No hard feelings mate. We are on the same side - the side that is today resisting the pro-LTTE camp to not make a come back (this time not via bombs and bullets, but through a star-IDIOT).

OaO Asithri
Sujeewa this is the first post you missed.

OaO Asithri
********************
Sujeewa the opinion you get depends on who you are talking to.
JVP is voiciferous. So many people you are talking to may have fallen victims to the noise rather than hearing the sound.
I believe that SF's popularity is the noise over real sound.
Whether I am correct or not I can only tell in the morning of 27th.
Sujeewa Kokawala said...
Reason given is the source they heard it from.
SK, isn't this the problem? Who is the source that they will believe? Even if it came from Gonseka's mouth they probably would not believe it (like SundayLeader statement, there are many in denial over it). People in SL are like that, their own mini egos at work.
Many UNPers have gone quiet after the excellent work by NFF –an example of this can be seen by the comments on Ada Derana. Reality is they probably were shamed into silence out of embarrassment more than shock/horror of the corruption issue. They will still vote Gonseka.
Pol
[an example of this can be seen by the comments on Ada Derana]
Any link?
Not doubting you mate, but only to save time.
OaO Asithri
Asithri,
"why now? did not the govt know about this before"
Thing is, if the Government did this any time earlier (during the war or after it however before Fonseka turned into Gonseka) just think of the fall out. It would be demoralising, we would all be furious with GR/MR for their "reckless selfish actions", memories of past commanders being scuttled by the Political leadership out of their "own fears" would return (e.g. Premadasa). West/LTTE would bloody capitalise on it (they would try a major attack and spin it into "the effect of loosing Gonseka"). Anti-war camp would ramp up the propaganda. It would have been hell on earth. Only now with Gonseka siding with Ranil/West/NGOs is it palatable for us.
My only gripe is Government should have struck this blow SOONER.
Pol Sambol:
You put it rightly.
Some may not even believe their eyes if they see SF is committing a crime instead they will admit to psychiatric hospital saying that they are hallucinating their god is committing crime.
I am skeptic. I tend to distrust at least initially before I trust.
Some times I believe my worst enemy rather than my best friend.
What we percieve may be "not true"
Even thouhg I trust my friends I know that their perceptions can lie to them. Sois mine.
Given all of this and that I am convinced that SF= Idi Amin of our national security.
There are who does not see it that way. Some of these believers are true believers and innocent. And there are some they know but they pretend. These are as bad as SF himself.
If MR forgives SF (more than in a personal way-This means if MR does not take legal action against SF after PE) then MR is also committing the same treachery since SF's credibility has to be rightfully destroyed so that he or someone like him will have no chance in the future. This is not a personal propblem. It is our Nation that we have to safegauard.
Sorry Asithri i do not have a link for it, its just Ada Derana comments (all items) as a whole.
The bastards would spam that site (because unlike DailyMirror it allowed anyone to comment including pro-SFs who would attack Derana itself). But now after the recent revelations (running away from HiCorp debate, TNA deal, Bribery attempt), their comments have mellowed out.
I just think these blows may have come a bit late, would have liked them sooner especially with poll day only a week away.
The TNA deal by far would have had the biggest impact.
The value of the SundayLeader interview has unfortunately been lost.

A good response to the corruption claims by Ajith Kabral
[Pardon me those who didn't see SF's corruption claim or 430b. I have no weblink to provide here]
In that corruption claim, their are more defects.
- Most prev leaders did not do anything but they also took loans. This corruption charge sheet inevitably tells us that every project has yielded something worthy for the nation.
- Total cost is taken as a waste, so the cities, the harbors and flyovers and power stations are also waste. According to SF we shud spend that borrowed money on allowances and salary increases. Borrowing money for such acts, is unacceptable.
- MR's projects have been completed before due time always.
- MR's projects take local skills and fit more to SL. Even at higher cost [if true] these facts make them worthy.
- No leader has tried building Metropolis, whereas MR is trying two [H'tota and Mankulam] and these are not small projects. The overall lending may be truly justified.
- SF's list covers edu B/G of many appointed officials of MR administration, and it always said "Passed: O/L". I disagree that many mentioned individuals passed GCE O/L only. Typically JVP critics fail to note any exam other than O/L, A/L and Degree. What about various trade certificates, prof exams, CIMA, part-time MBAs etc. Also the experience in conducting such operations.
- SF claims that Uma Oya can cultivate 50 acres only. This is funnily impossible. A reservoir itself is far bigger. A good spring or a tube well can do this amount of land. Ajith Kabral says it is 12500 acres. The 50acre claim shows you how wrong other numbers of SF camp are. They are created lies with hatred.
- It claims that Lanka Logistics is under MR's own BIL. Even if it is true, LL is a better way than what his predecessors did. I don't have to explain Rat-vat-te times with Access. In JR's days his son was in charge of logistics to DF.
- SF List claims that a % is taken from northern development including A9 Do not forget that entire N/E development money was shared between Jayalath J [via a company registered under his age old mom's name] and pussycats during Pisstalks.
- Lots of money allocated for North it claims. So What? This money must be worth considering the vast area and the required changes. Nobody did an evaluation on the actual cost here.
- Comparison with Mahaweli spending is wrong. Age old projects are incomparable.
- Why spend this borrowed money to pay off the deposits of Golden Key depositors and Sakvithi scam. Why shud we?
- Compared to the claimed "Wastes of projects" and the suggested "better ways to spend" I'd rather choose the projects than spending it on welfare. Note that money is borrowed, not freely available.

Very ture.
We are all on the same side (well minus the Jay-hans, disinformation and die-ass-pora) and want MR to win over Gonseka for the sake of the country.
The friendly fire is not because we simply have different ideas as would be the case when their is no election lol, its because we're worried about Gonseka winning/stealing the election and the fall out of him running the country. Will not be a pretty sight.

POl SAMBOL;
I made a comment on this. If they are saying that Mussamil has taken a bribe and if they are referring to the same event as Mussamil is referring then what they are saying is that they have given the the bribary and they are complaining that Mussamil has not fulfilled the conditions of the bribe.
Isn't this nice?

[I just think these blows may have come a bit late, would have liked them sooner especially with poll day only a week away.]
Agree. Then again, sometimes they say the "last minute" revelations are what get stuck in the "swing voters" mind and given that any of these attacks could have done zilch to convert the die-hard UNP/JVP supporter, it may be a designed strategy to bring them out when we are down to the wire.
However, I agree the attacks are not ferocious enough thus far.
For example...
When the TNA deal was stuck and when Sambandan went shooting his mouth off, GOSL should have taken RaviK, Hakeem, ManoG, RW, and SF for questioning as this is not a matter of simple political expediency, but all about about country's national security and territorial integrity and the GOSL of the day has all the right to do a deep-dive when such info surfaces.
In my view such questioning, in all seriousness for identification of possible criminality, would have convinced the swing-vote Sinhela masses that this is indeed a matter of national security and that this agreement with TNA is all but an agreement with the LTTE, to revive the LTTE.
OaO Asithri

If Mussamil has accepted a bribe then some one must have given the bribe since Mussamil cannot bribe himself(at least not in front of law). Then who is this bribe giver?
What is it that the Opposition is doing?
I can understand this if Namal is from a third party like another candidate.
But, if Namal is from SF's side what are the implication?
Are they saying that Mussamil changed mind about crossing to SF's side after taking a bribe from WW?

Tigers planned suicide assault on Vanni front
using 300 cadres - top Prabha associate tells police
…reveals transactions with gold
By Shamindra Ferdinando
TheIsland.lk
January 18, 2010
A senior LTTE cadre in government custody says that they had planned to carry out a massive suicide attack using 300 cadres on the Vanni front early this year.
Acting on information provided by him, the Vavuniya police had recovered over 2,000 kgs of high explosives and different types of suicide kits buried in the Vellamullivaikkal area, east of A9.
A senior police official told The Island that had the LTTE plan materialised, the LTTE would have been able to resist the Army several weeks longer than it did last year. The LTTE collapsed in May.
The LTTEer had said that some of the cadres picked by the leadership to carry out the raid had escaped along with civilians to reach government-held areas while some died in confrontations with the Army. According to him, the LTTE had called off the strike due to lack of suicide cadres, though a section of the leadership favoured what he called a limited suicide offensive.
Sources said that some of the escaped suicide cadres could be among the 10,000 men and women now held by the Army.
Sources said that some the explosives-packed suicide kits weighed about 7 kilos. This was evidence that the attackers planned to target armoured fighting vehicles, artillery pieces and mortars positioned on the Vanni east front, sources said.
The informant is one of the 20 personnel who had been closely working with LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran for many years and knew locations where they buried arms, ammunition and explosives as the Army advanced on their positions east of A9. Of them, about 14 had been either killed or wounded in action and the rest arrested by the police.
Sources said that they had assisted the Vavuniya police to recover millions of Rupees worth of LTTE arsenal. In fact, a US manufactured M16 A2 rifle believed to be one of the weapons used by Prabhakaran, too, had been recovered on information provided by them.
They had revealed that the LTTE paid for some of their transactions with gold. According to them, they had owned $ millions worth gold to facilitate international transactions, including arms deals.
Sources said that the LTTE had gold reserves overseas, though the Army recovered some gold on the Vanni east front during the offensive and subsequent to the killing of Prabhakaran on May 18.
Quoting captives, sources said that the return of Prabhakaran’s son, Charles Anthony caused a major rift among senior cadres as he paved the way for his colleagues to receive brand new motor cycles and also introduced new technology much to the annoyance of others. The seniors had resented Charles Anthony’s influence on the decision making process, sources said.
I know Asithri, i wish these scum would be arrested (not all of them, just say Ravi K -hope there is a well endowered tusker ready to show this man what a real aliya is like in no better place than Elephant Pass).
GOSL is probably orried about the impact of such on the election front (cry babies will obviously cry) and people may not accept it in that sense. However government propaganda machinery should have struck like Thors Hammer coming down on Valhalla with what you have described (nation security etc) but it was like a meow.
Maithripala predicts 67% vote for MR
by Don Asoka Wijewardena
TheIsland.lk
January 18, 2009
Agriculture and Agrarian Services Minister Maithripala Sirisena, said that President Mahinda Rajapaksa would receive 67 per cent of the votes in the upcoming poll and the UPFA government would challenge General Sarath Fonseka and UNP leader Ranil Wickremasinghe to disprove that Fonseka’s group had signed an agreement with the TNA accepting five conditions.
In the sixth Presidential election to be held on January 26, President Mahinda Rajapaksa will get a 1.3 million majority votes and General Fonseka, with the support of the UNP and the TNA, would get 4.4 million altogether.
Addressing a special media conference yesterday at the Mahaweli Centre, Minister Sirisena, alleged that when the TNA leader R Sampanthan held a meeting with President Rajapaksa and put forward five conditions the President did not wish to concur with the conditions.
Subsequestly, Sampanthan, went to General Fonseka’s group and got it approved, the Minister claimed. He added that General Fonseka’s group had betrayed the nation by signing a secret agreement with the TNA. According to that agreement, the LTTE would re-emerge, the Minister pointed out. The government did not hesitate to challenge General Fonseka to disprove his group had entered into an agreement with the TNA.
He pointed out that election observation teams of foreign countries and local observation teams were ready to observe the poll and had conducted many surveys. Most observer groups from India, Pakistan, China, Japan, Russia, Iran and Libya had predicted that President Rajapaksa would be re-elected this month.
Minister Sirisena added that of the 160 election electorates, President Rajapaksa would win 131 electorates and all districts, except one.
He emphasized that the UPFA would ask General Fonseka’s group and the UNP to avoid election violence because it had reached unprecedented levels. Unless General Fonseka and the UNP stop election violence, the UPFA would not hesitate to take action to counter attack.
Minister Sirisena revealed that the UPFA had received news from a reliable source that a few Opposition politicians, such as General Fonseka, SLFP (Mahajana Wing) leader MP, Mangala Samaraweera, and JVP leader Somawansa Amarasinghe, had already bought air tickets on ET airline to leave the country after the election and the tickets contained the departure date as January 27, at 1.20 in the morning.
He said the Indian national newspaper, The Hindu in its editorial, had stated that the most suitable leader in the election is President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The editorial had clearly pointed out that General Fonseka’s political party was a rather opportunistic one.
Galaboda Thero pleads to the nation to vote for MR
Bravo, is this a sign of base UNP voter swing? Galaboda thero was a renowned UNP hardcore.
Sujeewa,
A lot of those you have decribed -swing voters batting for SF- maybe in denial or their egos just won't accept it. It is worrying still and there are underlying grievences against MR (primarily i think this is rooted in the jumbo cabinet and the vile opposition propaganda generated from this throughout the last 4 years) which perhaps they believe Fonsek the image and not Gonseka the man would solve
Ananda,
Minister Sirisena revealed that the UPFA had received news from a reliable source that a few Opposition politicians, such as General Fonseka, SLFP (Mahajana Wing) leader MP, Mangala Samaraweera, and JVP leader Somawansa Amarasinghe, had already bought air tickets on ET airline to leave the country after the election and the tickets contained the departure date as January 27, at 1.20 in the morning.
Whatever happens, we better arrest them at the airport. THEY CANNOT LEAVE Sri Lanka. They will do huge non-stop damage to the country and we will never be able to touch them if they leave. We need to grill them to reveal all the deals they have made with TNA/West.
/My measure is from the ppl whom I meet everyday. It is a pretty big number and covers most parts of city and near-city population./
Well, no argument there - we believe you.
/Many who were real generals of MR are batting for SF. And they do not agree for any defect of SF like Ninja said, maybe their ego]./
Thats different. If I were big shot working for MR and I see better deal working for Gonseka I would also switch. Of course not considering country but only my personal gains.
/But I find that village based traditional UNP is somewhat silent. I believe that they are seriously considering whether it is the right move./
There are many who will not vote this time. Among them are traditional supporters of UNP and SLFP and floating voters. Break up matters but I don't have numbers. Many sane UNP voters may not vote this time.
/I can't agree with Ninja that I state what I like to see. I see what I don't like to, and am concerned./
I didn't mean that. I stated general case and mentioned exceptions are there.

Rural Sinhalese root for Rajapaksa
P K Balachandran
January 18, 2009
ANURADHAPURA (NORTH CENTRAL SRI LANKA): President Mahinda Rajapaksa appears to be streets ahead of his principal rival Gen Sarath Fonseka in terms of support among the rural Sinhalese in the upcoming presidential elections.
Lack of support for Fonseka was evident as one drove through the Sinhalesedominated countryside of Kurunegala and Anuradhapura in North Central Sri Lanka. While there was not a single cut out, poster or banner of Fonseka, the area was awash with those of Rajapaksa.
“Most of the local leaders have jumped on the Rajapaksa bandwagon,” explained a bearer at a roadside restaurant off Kurunegala.
Clearly the defection of Johnston Fernando, the up and coming leader of the Opposition United National Party (UNP), had had a tellingly adverse impact on Fonseka’s campaign in Kurunegala district.
QUNITESSENTIAL FARMERS’ MAN: Unlike the 2002- 2004 UNP government led by Ranil Wickremesinghe which neglected the farmers, Rajapaksa provided them with fertilizer subsidies, assurance of a minimum price for their produce and the building of some basic infrastructure facilities as per the Mahinda Chinthanaya.
According to political pundits sympathetic to Rajapaksa, the President belongs to Govigama, the caste of farmers, who are the dominant caste among the Sinhalese.
They also point out that his rival, Fonseka, is a Karava or fisherman. The Karavas are an educated and moneyed caste, but they are a minority. They are also not found in all parts of the island.
So that is an advantage for Mahinda Rajapaksa.
CONCRETE BENEFITS: Going beyond sartorial display, Rajapaksa has done a lot for the farmers. “His government is giving us a packet of fertilizer for Rs 350, which is sold for Rs 3,500 in the open market. He has also fixed the floor price which makes paddy growing a reasonably profitable venture,” said Nishantha, a paddy farmer.
“He has implemented the Mahinda Chinthanaya. And the new Chinthanaya (released as the 2010 election manifesto) promises more,” a hopeful Nishantha added.
SWAYED BY NATIONALIST PROPAGANDA: The rural masses are supportive of the nationalistic policies of Rajapaksa, especially his contribution to defeating Tamil Tiger terrorism and separatism and restoring the unity of the country, said shopkeeper Hidayatullah in Anuradhapura town.

NFF reveals Muzammil CD But would not go to Bribery Commission
By Nabeela Hussain
January 18, 2009
The National Freedom Front (NFF) yesterday produced a CD claiming to be the recorded conversations NFF parliamentarian Mohammed Muzamil had with UNF members said that they would be initiating legal action based on it without going before the bribery commission.
“We have video and audio tapes, we will initiate legal action against this very soon”, said parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa, leader of the NFF.
However he said that he would not take the matter before the Bribery Commission they do not trust the Commission.
“We haven’t even touched the money or counted it yet, we will use it for legal proceedings’, he said.
He also said that there can not be a law abiding country if the representatives of the people could be bought in such away, and added that with this revelation there would be no more attempts to buy over parliamentarians in order to win the elections. “When this proposal was brought to me in Parliament, they clearly said that we had to help the General win, that the General was told about me and that they were prepared to pay for my support. We had conversations over the phone and met continuously after this”, said Mr. Muzamil.
The first recording was a conversation between Mr. Muzamil and presidential candidate MM Mustaffa discussing the amount, where five million rupees was offered and Mr. Muzamil refused, whereupon he was asked to name a figure which would be considered. “If I was interested in the money then I wouldn’t have recorded these conversations and videoed what happened?” asked Mr. Muzamil.
Recordings that were played at the press conference indicated that MP Ravi Karunanayake was willing to arrange for security if any problem should arise and that Presidential Candidate General Sarath Fonseka, Malik Samarawikrama of the UNP were aware of what was happening.
“There are more recordings, but we are unable to reveal them as we will be taking legal action soon and the revelation of all could be a liability to us in court”, said parliamentarian Weerawansa.
He also accused the opposition of buying the support of SLMC Leader, Rauf Hakeem and TNA MP R. Sambandan.
“Mr. Muzamil is now getting anonymous phone calls threatening him, he is a father but he has taken this risk and done his duty to the country”, added Weerawansa.

Mervin?
Yes, this I can agree with.
However, frankly, I am sick of this harping on "Mervin factor" as really if you go to SL and travel extensively in the country (which I did), it is a non-issue for the average SL citizen.
-------------
YES very very true ! Mervyn is absolutely a non issue for the average citizen. Those who make Mervyn an excuse for their political preference do so because there is not that much to say. But MR should NOT have given them such an easy card to play in the first place!

However, when you step into the countryside Sri Lanka (where the "real" votes are), this is hardly an issue as the buring issues there are the cost of living, not enough subsidies for farming, education for children, etc. etc
------------------
Exactly ! nor are they bothered one bit about executive presidency. Or not even abt so called "corruption".
Ranil W once again misjudged the needs and sentiments of the people in this country. The bulk that matter (for votes) are the villagers.
Most bloggers in the blog is like:
SIHINA LOKE WASANTHE
THARUKA MAL HINAHUNA……
You all are just conning each other and having a temporary joy just before the disaster……best of luck!
If anyone like to wake up to the reality…..he will get bashed up by ….you know who!
pol,
thanks mate for the link.
forgot it!
tiger support for gonseka is OPEN and clear.
Nice trick: Now I know why SF camp is filing a case against Mussamil with the bribary commission. They were trying to destroy evidence. They have their people in the Bribary commission.
I think that the SF camp is really scared.
We were in sihina Loke when the Army was going to attack Killinochchi. You know who said taht? Not just trivial person like you or me. It was the Sun God who said.
Maybe still we are dreaming.Sun God is alive and is about to establish Elam.
Is not that true. Oh yeah SF=VP=Elam
Asithri/B-SL;
Marvyn only matters to Colombo vote base, I don't think he matters to out stations.
Every govt had a version of his.
Gangaramaye Podi Hamuduruwo was a hard core UNP but I think some time ago he fellout with Ranil.
So it may not be a change that is happenning at the moment. It would have already happened but his article is so stron and that can shift a few votes.
Guys
Man, if the people somehow vote Fonseka to victory, then they deaserve all the crap they are are going to get under his rule.
And may the Sri lankans be known world wide as the most ungrateful people in the whole world.
