hiranthe,

although there is some truth in it, it still is speculation.

1. election laws have been violated.

2. election commissioner has admitted this.

3. EC gave up on the competent authority, etc.

4. theoritically, he has the power to either call off the election or declare the result null.

5. now its clear MR is winning.

defence authorities are aware of this.

i don't think it can be handled using force.

1. IF the election result is declared null due to the violation of election laws (this has happened), MR stays in power for another 22 months.

2. the LTTE is damn desperate for CHANGE. C-HANG-E or HANG they say.

although there is little they can do now, they fear for the response of the ppl which will be against the UNP-JVP-TNA ahead of a crucial general election.

a true survey.

gonseka camp has asked evey district organiser to rig 30,000 votes in every district.

clever plan.

here is the gonseka plan and assumptions.

MR's % - 51%
SF's % - 47%
others - 2%

gonz camp assumes voters turnout to be 78%. a bit high i think.

14,000,000*78% = 10,920,000
51% = 5,569,200 for MR

14,000,000*78% = 10,920,000
47% = 5,132,400 for SF

MR's lead = 436,800

gonseka plan.

30,000 fraudulent votes in every district.

30,000*22 = 660,000

gonz lead after riggin = 660,000 - 436,800 = 223,200

gonz - 50%
MR - 48%

if the police stop this fraud, MR will get 51% against SF 47%. this is my prediction.

Worse is the infestation of the NGOs and other traitors working with them. We need to purge our nation of this fifth column.

In this context we must look at the violence which took place last week, which the Western media is trying portray as some kind of genocide (already reporting it as "wide spread" and "married in violence") clearly indicates who was behind it all.

Presidential Candidate Sarath Fonseka has insulted people’s intelligence by using the LTTE bomb attack on him in one of his election propaganda advertisements, said Foreign Employment Promotion and Welfare Minister Keheliya Rambukwella.

Addressing a press conference at his residence in Kandy, Minister Rambukwella said people should question Fonseka about the last telephone call received by the suicide bomber before she exploded her bomb. He said the Government has obtained the SIM card of the suicide bomber’s mobile telephone which gave vital clues but it did not wish to betray anyone for petty political gain because it always acted with responsibility. He said the President as Head of State has never betrayed the country, Security Forces of the people for political gain and this was a major factor which enabled the country to defeat the most ruthless terrorist outfit in the world.

After Sarath Fonseka joined hands with the TNA terrorism and separatism had shown signs of raising their heads again, he said.

This is not going to be good. This is a sure way for government to loose votes. Government should apprehend the culprits, even if they are UPFA and show that there is no space of this kind of stuff.

........
UNP, JVP and pro-LTTE Tamil website says, ‘Defeat Rajapaksa’

Dr. P.A. Samaraweera

In an interview to a Sri Lankan Daily on 17th Jan. Ranil had said that the TNA leader Sampanthan, met Gen. Fonseka and he gave him the 10 point Program which had been approved by all parties supporting him.

With regard to Ranil’s meeting with Sampanthan he had added, “...Other issues which resolve to power sharing and all the matters are up to the Parliament and not Gen. Fonseka because he would cease to be the Executive President and he has no political party to back him...”

So basically what he said was once the incumbent President is defeated Gen.(Retd) Fonseka will hand over the reins to Ranil and pack his bags! This is very unlikely because Gen. Fonseka had declared that he decided to retire as the post given to him was toothless. He is after power.

Thus it appears that in the Opposition camp there seems to be so much uncertainty and trust. The UNP wants to get back on the saddle by whatever means. The TNA which represented the LTTE wants to merge the North and East. Now they say they are quite happy with the alliance and Sarath Fonseka despite his comment, “...Tamils and Muslims must learn to live as minorities in a land owned by the majority Sinhalese...”

With the 10 point Program there seems to be some concern from other quarters. Two points in the Program are a) Relocation of the high Security Zones in the North and b) General amnesty to the LTTE fighters. Another issue discussed is the merging of the North and the East.

Commenting on the 10 point Program the pro-LTTE Tamil Website says, “...Rajapaksa and Fonseka are two sides of the same coin - Sinhala chauvinism. We have no great expectation from Fonseka but want to use him to defeat Rajapaksa at any cost... Use one diamond to cut another...use his own general as a weapon to hit back and defeat him...”

This is exactly what the UNP and the JVP says, ‘Defeat Rajapaksa at any cost’, obviously because he ended the war and brought peace to the country!

As against this, here is an extract from the Editorial of the Independent Indian Newspaper ‘Pioneer’ of 16th January. “...The subcontinents experience with soldiers turned politicians-turned rulers has been extremely been traumatic and we definitely do not need a (Retd.) General as a President in our neighbourhood, no matter what path he chooses to enter high office. Sri Lanka would do well to reject Gen. Fonseka and re-elect President Rajapaksa, not least because the latter has demonstrated his ability to rid the country of an ailment that plagued it for quarter of a century. His administrative skills are known as are his credentials. To reject him at the hustings would be to ignore his huge contribution to restoring peace to the nation after prolonged civil war. He deserves to win...”

Swarnajith Udana said...

Not only SF was a hindrance to the war but also created situations that the Goernement is dire political quagmires repeatedly.

25,000 UNPers to vote for Mahinda

by Cyril Wimalasurendre

KANDY - The Kandy District Ekabadda Samagi Sanvidanaya, an organisation based in Pilimatalawa, has canvassed 25,000 UNPers of the Kandy District to vote for President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

This was stated by organisation president W. H. S. Dhanaratne at a recent news conference.

He said the 25,000 UNP supporters are those who had been voting for the elephant symbol throughout, but they had now decided to vote for the President at Tuesday’s election.

Dharmaratna said the group of UNPers belonged to all walks of life and communities. They had changed their position to support President Rajapaksa mainly to salute his courage and dedication in eliminating terrorrism, which was only a dream to his predecessors.

President Rajapaksa should be given another term to develop the country after having freed the country from a ruthless terrorist group which posed as the deciding factor in taking decisions on the fate of the country for the past three decades, Dharmaratna said.

Organisation secretary Kumari Sumanapala and co-ordinating secretaries Pushpakumara Liyanarachchi and Jayanethi Sarath Kumara were present.

Sri Lanka's Tamil diaspora

Next year in Jaffna:
Tamil émigrés follow the election campaign with jaundiced eyes

January 21, 2010
TheEconomist.com

IN THE dingy back office of a Sri Lankan grocery shop in Harrow, north-west London, sales assistants pore over a Tamil newspaper, while a customer says he is going home to follow events on the internet. Having watched from afar as the Sri Lankan army crushed the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam in 2009, British Tamils are again transfixed by a campaign on the island—this time for an election. On January 26th the president, Mahinda Rajapaksa, will seek to capitalise on his military victory at a presidential poll called nearly two years earlier than it need have been.

The news, however, has been mostly grim for the 1m or so members of the Sri Lankan Tamil diaspora. Most supported the rebels and the independent state for which they battled. As the Tigers were defeated, thousands of Tamils were killed. Now, the choice is between two candidates: Mr Rajapaksa, who launched the final bloody phase of the war; and Sarath Fonseka, who led the army that waged it.

For Tamils that constitutes a dispiriting contest. Both candidates are Sinhalese nationalists; neither seems likely to hurry towards the national reconciliation they have promised. But with the Sinhalese vote apparently closely split between Mr Rajapaksa and Mr Fonseka, Tamils, who constitute only 12% of the population, may have the deciding say. In Sri Lanka the Tamil National Alliance, once seen as a proxy for the Tigers, has announced its backing for Mr Fonseka, as the only way to thwart Mr Rajapaksa. Many Tamil émigrés say they grudgingly support that decision. Without votes, however, they can do little to sway the outcome.

They were not always so powerless. Until May, when the war was won and lost, the Tamil diaspora, which accounts for one-quarter of Sri Lankan Tamils and has large populations in Canada, Britain, America and Australia, exerted huge power back home. By financing the rebels—to the tune of $300m a year by some estimates—overseas Tamils sustained a well-armed guerrilla force, which by the end had even a primitive air force able to bombard the main city, Colombo.

The Tigers’ overseas network flourished after many Tamils fled their homeland in the 1980s. It controlled many aspects of diaspora life, including schools and temples. In Tamil-populated areas such as Harrow, the Tigers’ defeat is sharply felt. Stories abound of humble shopkeepers made millionaires as the Tigers were wiped out before collecting their loot. But most lost out. “Everyone gave money to the Liberation Tigers,” says a 30-year-old waiter in Sambar, a Sri Lankan café in Harrow. “And we lost everything.”

Ananda-USA said...

Next year in Jaffna:

.......continued........
Some Tiger supporters have tried to reignite the campaign for a Tamil “Eelam”, or homeland. The Global Tamil Forum, one of several new outfits, says it is planning elections for a “transnational government” in April. Around the world, referendums are being organised on the Vaddukkoaddai Resolution, a document adopted in 1976 by a group called the Tamil United Liberation Front, declaring the Tamils’ right to statehood.

The Tigers’ former following, however, is now rudderless, allowing dissenters to speak up. Brutal towards the very Tamils they claimed to represent at home, the Tigers also put heavy pressure on exiles, threatening to harm their relatives. Raghavan, a founder of the Tigers in 1974, who left them a decade later and now lives in London, says their defeat is allowing more moderate views an airing on diaspora radio stations and websites.

His greater hope is that a moderate Tamil voice, without the Tigers to silence it, will now be heard in Sri Lanka itself. Overseas, the diaspora will keep up the calls for investigations into alleged war crimes, and press for a political settlement to ensure lasting peace. But there are fears Tiger activists overseas may seek to undermine Tamil politicians who press for devolution rather than a separate Tamil state. They might, for example, finance rival political parties. The government has always argued that support for the Tigers among the diaspora was almost entirely a result of extortion. Not so, for they have one other selling-point that survives the evisceration of their coercive powers: the government’s refusal to make real progress towards reconciliation with its Tamil minority at home. The election may not change that.

I agree tourism is bad primary industry to build the economy around. Some development projects which cropped up in recent months are orientated solely for tourists. All development should be orientated at the people/nation being primary benefactors with tourism being a secondary/tertiary effect. Tourism is a highly "dependent" industry where money generated hardly trickles down to the people at large compared to other industries such as manufacturing, IT or agriculture.

It was Dayan J emulating the Cuban model for us infused the idea of tourism ("Cuba an enemy of the West still gets 1 million tourists, why can't we?") as a primary industry.

Also its because of "tourism" are only border is pathetically porous. The "visa on arrival" has got to be stopped. All non-Sri Lankan passport holders must be screened before getting visa to enter Sri Lanka. We can keep a lot of trash out the first time around and save us a lot of headaches that way.

I've lost the link and i wonder if anyone has one, couple days back a Government MPs house was attacked and someone was injured/killed were they not? Does anyone have the details on that? Need it to counter some Gonas making cry baby noises after Mangala's boyfriend was "attacked" this morning.

Note the timing: EU monkey and Mooner issued their concerns yesterday, today Gonseka justifies them.

Also to note, Western media only report things from the opposition (their denials, accusations, clarifications but mum on the Government). Furthermore they do not mention the opinion polls carried out by the Univercities, Nexus Research Group or the Indian group, because the results were not favourable to them. If Gonseka was leading in them those results would be splashed everywhere. Instead they are complaining about "election violence" started by their puppet candiate Gonseka himself.

Wests loud mouth "free media" at work.

Asithri,

Yes indeed Fonseka sits in the conference like a doofus with a very few words from him while the scum Ranil and other traitors run the agenda.

Hmm. Hmm. Mano Ganesan, the lying LTTE -er and mass murder who advocated violence against rest of Sri Lanka in the North in Tamil, when it was under LTTE control
and then would come to Colombo and preach peace....

Hmm Gonzeka is a traitor, and all the braves who gave their life for Sri Lanka are thinking aloud if it was worth- if this traitor wins the PE.

So it tell me that separatists will continue their bogus claims of injustice. If they can lie like this in SL, imagine what they tell the diaspora and IC.

I feel that we're back to sq one as far as the separtism is concerned. Unless we do Multi Ethnic Resettlement and bring laws to ban all sorts of separatist acts [an amendment to sixth amendment] we will be busted again.

Please post on the new blog.

I am satisfied with your explanations about Generals appearing in TV.

We have to take examples from Israel. Whoever in power, they will NOT make any adverse comments about their security forces.

Thushita quoted Miss Information who said...

"This blog did not exist then.

Also, there is very little posting quality to suggest any military folks other than maybe a grunt or two.

Content tells the tale.
"

Thushita then replied...

"This is the continuation of DW blog. All the people who were in DW are in this blog.

Missy, maybe you R the one who haven't got the message yet. VP is dead. All the LTTE cadres and your bullshit hype about a all mighty LTTE heroes are gone after being ass fuck** in Nanthikadal lagoon.

Therefore what is the value of Military men hanging out here. They most probably would be reading the blog with interest until such time they need to appear. There will be no LTTE for another thousand years, what we broke at PKT is myth of Terrorism.
"

******

What a staggering pile of steaming bovine fecal residue.

Let's just take a moment and look at this babble... mind you introducing logic and fact to this crowd is a bit like trying to explain a 3D movie to a one-eyed dog with brain damage but we'll have a go at it anyway.

"This is the continuation of DW blog. All the people who were in DW are in this blog.

Wrong.

DefenseWire is still active although barely... why even your own Moshe just posted there recently. Nowhere on DefenceWire do they recognise this blog so for a poster like Thushita to give this blog credit for something another blog did months before this one even existed is specious at best and in truth downright plain stupid.

Missy, maybe you R the one who haven't got the message yet. VP is dead. All the LTTE cadres and your bullshit hype about a all mighty LTTE heroes are gone after being ass fuck** in Nanthikadal lagoon.

Another perfect example of somebody lying with absolute disregard for the facts.

I am well on record across the blogosphere from Puligal to DefenceWire as being both anti-LTTE as well as being strongly against a separatist movement or solution.

I dare the poster to find one quote of mine to suggest otherwise. He can't and like Pole Dancer (or whatever that lunk's handle is) is now stuck with the egg of an obvious fabrication on his face.

Okay... the next part is priceless in its mind-numbing stupidity.

...what is the value of Military men hanging out here. They most probably would be reading the blog with interest until such time they need to appear."

What is the Value of military men hanging out at a blog about defence that claims to be the continuation of another blog called "DefenceWire"?

Oh where to start?

Imagine you went to visit a blog about rocket science. You go there to learn a few things in hopes that the information is good... perhaps information from... I don't know... say.... ROCKET SCIENTISTS????

Maybe just information that ROCKET SCIENTISTS have viewed and agreed with?

You see... A rocket science blog without a Rocket Scinetist or two is likely filled with bad information... intentional or not. Having a rocket scientist or two around brings some credibility to the blog and the information within.

So having some military folks around a defence blog...

There will be no LTTE for another thousand years, what we broke at PKT is myth of Terrorism.

This propagandist doesn't even bother to read the other propagandists on the blog or he might be marginally aware that virtually everyone of his "peers" here is saying this election is a continuation of the war and that the terrorists are still a looming threat thanks to the "traitor" SF.

In summation:

Dear ThuShita,

In an effort to keep garbage off the internet could you please refrain from posting until such time you have something intelligent and or verifiable to say.

Hey SLDF Admins... You are nuking my posts now?

Hifuckin'larious it is.

You guys sure like to dish it out but are thin-skinned cowards when it comes time to take it!

What's the matter... a bit of a verbal truth-fest too much for you?

Are you worried about readers getting exposed to fair and logical arguments that show the many lies and distortions that feebly attempt to pass themselves as facts around here?

I can see why you folks are so happy to be in bed with the Chinese... censorship versus freedom of expression is a common crutch of the morally weak.

I'll take all of this as a complement and validation of my various assertions... assertions you folks are too sack-less to publish.

Oh... and you are too afraid to even note you deleted my posts? Are you really that sad a lot?

It seems so.

P.S. I will just post them in this thread as it seems you are too stupid to look here!
