[This way any seperatism can be effectively targeted and managed, especially when you have a strong army..And these little states will be too weak to survive on their own.]

You have a good point. That is precisely why we didn't want to let the North and East merge into one province.

But, the setting up of states separated by ethnicity should be a cause for worry .. because it is those feeling of separate identity that ultimately undermine nations. This is why I advocate Ethnic Integration and avoidance of governance based on ethnic, caste and religious differences in Sri Lanka.

Look for example at the former Yugoslavia. At the end of WW-II Yugoslavia was an ethnic disaster, with the Solvenians and Croatians who supported the Nazis crushed by the Southern Yugoslavs led by Serbia under Tito's leadership. Titi somehow managed to craft a new country from all of these disparate peoples by deemphasizing ethnicity, language and religion. Under Tito, Yugoslavs began to consider themselves as one people forgot their ethnic differences, and progressed tother.

But, when the Soviet Union fell, and the Germans, aided and abetted by the US and other NATO countries, wanted to disintegrate the former Soviet satellite countries, the Pandora's Box was reopened and Yugoslavia disintegrated. The horror of that divorce is well known. Today, there is only a collection of weak independent states without the national vision of capabilities of the Yugoslavia that was. On the other hand, countries that engineered that diintegration, like Germany, reunited their parts separated by war, and became the dominant players in the new Europe.

The British conquered the Princely states of India, and created British India as one country, and held it together until 1947. At independence, 1947, British India immediately split asunder into Pakistan and India, and later Pakistan split into Pakistan and Bangladesh. Why? Because of Religious (India & Pakistan) and Ethnic (Pakistan & Bangladesh) differences .. communities invoking separate aspirations.

During the last 63 years that India has been one country, it has apparently not succeeded in creating a single Indian consciousness and a feeling that they are ONE people. India's failure to effectively address illiteracy, poverty and discrimination based on caste has not helped at all. As a result, in spite of the often admired economic progress and technological prowess of emerging India, the lot of the vast majority of India's people has not improved. As a result, of India's 1,300 million people, about 900 million people live in poverty in areas best by terrorism. They are agitating for a share of the pie now, in the only way they know how ... with violence.

The Tamils rejected Hindi as the Unifying National language, and are forever complaining about dominance by the "Aryan" North Indians as if they are a separate species. Moslems Kashmiris identify with Pakistan. Assamese and Bodolanders want separate states. Sikhs have not yet given up on Khalistan, and the list goes on.

Is this undue emphasis on separating into ever finer communities by caste, ethnicity and language indicative of a resurgence of those old tribal ethnic feelings that underpinned the old Princely States of India?

I don't really know the answer .. but if I were an Indian leader with a VISION of India as GREAT UNITED NATION striding onto the GLOBAL STAGE to deliver a good life to its people, and the gift of its collective genius to the world, I would be very worried!

India's Manmohan Singh is such a leader, and he is worried!

I was a little reluctant to post in this blog for the reason that I do not want to invade other people's spaces and disturb their activity. It was different with DW since it was run by someone else other than the prominent bloggers here. I hope that you would understand my reluctance as a show of respect for other people opinions. I do not want to post here if I am seen as an uninvited and imposing guest.

SU,
I think Anadha and the other bloggers who created this blog mentioned earlier that anyone can post in this blog.

They are just maintaining it for the interest of SL. So any one is welcome to post their opinion here as we did in DW forum.

What a shame, Fonseka is settling his political scores with Gota at the expense of the army he claimed to have lead. He shall realize that he has no rights or privileges to throw tantrums at the people in the same manner he did to his junior officers.

I don't think we can compare this to Millennium City fiasco. It is too small for this kind of Treachery. As Moshe said, only thing that come in to my mind is Ahalepola incident. Even people in Sam's Jathiye Pahara Ballo suddenly looks like saints to me compared to what SF is doing. Now only person that I can compare SF is to VP.

He doesn't seem to understand when he is accusing GR, he is accusing most of our best commanders in the field. Or is this what he is trying to get at? A mutiny or take over by army by causing political instability. If that happens we might be playing to the hands of our white masters again.

Wasnt it Shavendra who disciplined that Sinha regiment officer, whom had harrased a Colombo nightclub owner on SFs orders? I think this issue was reported in the Sunday Times just after Fonny returned from his masters land..

Sunday Leader - General Fonseka maintains that Nadesan, Ramesh and Pulidevan had been shot dead by government troops as they advanced towards them carrying a white flag, as they had been instructed to do.

GOVERNMENT TROOPS?

I suppose Frederica Jansz couldn’t be bothered to find out from the great general, when did he actually hand over the Army to the Government….?

BTW, I think we should not make this just an MR v SF contest and attack SF on corruption. That is exactly what the UNPee and their mates want. We should concentrate on SF / UNP, Mongala, Mano issues such as:
On Mangala’s frolics in a ‘pariah’ nation
or
Leading an army of the deserted
0r
Government rattled by Fonseka trump

and let SF explain his policies and his strange ( or not ….) behaviour.

Moshe,

The man who wanted to capitalize the war hero status has started dragging the whole army down the drain. It seems that something has gone seriously wrong with Fonseka 2010 campaign worthy of analysis. I see the following possibilities.

1. Fonseka, a known tantrum thrower, momentarily forget that he was speaking to the most anti-SL news paper and just could not control his verbal diarreah.

2. A scum like Mangala Samaraweera advices him that this is a great way to earn more votes by accusing people like Shavendra. So he carefully crafted the story to the extent that he received information not from SLA but a third party reporter.

3. Some Lanka News Web poll or something made him to realize that he is going to face certain defeat and he went berserk because of his injured ego.

4. Hidden behind the recent fake diplomatic reconciliation gestures, a western puppet master who's secretary got LTTE money are trying to reinforce bogus war crime charges through Fonseka.

5. Western apes are trying to destabilize our country and push us down the drain.

6. It could be combination of some or all of the above.

Please feel free to add.

People must know that his right political efforts and direction, inspite of conniving international communites' unjustified pressure, got rid of the most ruthless type of terrorists in the world. One must understand the disappointment and frustration of some governments in the West for not coming to grips of their own terrorists or their own fight against the global terrorists.SF could have been a great asset to the global anti terrorist industry if not for his short sighted step to enter politics which is dirty.

He (SF) did not state that Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapakse gave orders to kill those who LTTE ers who came to surrender during the last phase of the war.
the Defence Secretary had instructed a high officer in the war operations not to allow anyone to escape whether they came with or without a white flag.

BBC Sin quoting the same Press briefing by SF, published at 18:19 (from source code):
General Fonseka told the media on Sunday, that the defence secretary, Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, sent a message to senior Tamil Tiger leaders that they should walk towards the military carrying white flags.
But, he says, Mr Rajapaksa had instructed the firld commanders to not to accommodate this, ordering instead that – quote – “they must all be killed”.

Make a complain to the BBC, and increase the work load of Priyath and his merry men.

LeN doing their best with word manipulations in damage controlling of their candidate. Its typical low class politico trick to issue 'statement A' and the opposite of 'statement A' to get votes of two different vote bases. It seems that traitor expects to gain tamil votes by his first statement while retain sinhala votes by second denying statement. However, if you check carefully his denial statement (not the heading set by LeN) you will find he is rewarding it and not really denying.

I am not aware of a traitor who went to this extent of betrayal in entire sinhala history.

/I did not say , Gotabaya gave orders to kill the LTTE members who came to surrender- Fonseka

(Lanka-e-News 13.Dec.2009 8.30PM) Gen. Sarath Fonseka the common Presidential candidate said today (13) when addressing a Press briefing at the JAIC Hilton Hotel, that he did not state that Defense Secretary Gotabaya Rajapakse gave orders to kill those who LTTE ers who came to surrender during the last phase of the war.

The General told this when answering a question raised by a media personnel with reference to a news item appearing in today’s Sunday Leader newspaper.

He told he has been misquoted in the news. The question asked from me was what action Gotabaya and Basil Rajapakse took when several LTTE leaders were preparing to come forward with white flags to surrender on 17th May 2009 after Basil and Gotabaya were informed of such a move by the LTTE leaders through the Norwegians.?

The answer I gave was, ‘I did not know the story of the LTTE leaders trying to surrender carrying the white flags. I came to know of this later through the media. That was known only between the two of them , as expressed by the media. T he media revealed to me , the Defense Secretary had instructed a high officer in the war operations not to allow anyone to escape whether they came with or without a white flag.
This is a story heard by you from others in the same way as I heard. Due to the security and safety of the media personnel who told me this , I cannot disclose his name. These details were revealed to me by a Media personnel who was on the battlefield on that day. The Defense secretary has instructed the high Army Officer over the phone.’/

Former Commander says Sri Lanka Army killed surrendering LTTE leaders

ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Dec 13, Colombo: Former Sri Lankan Army Commander and the presidential candidate General Sarath Fonseka said his army killed surrendering LTTE leaders on the orders of Defense Secretary.

In an interview to Sunday Leader, Fonseka said Defense Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa ordered Brigadier Shavendra Silva to eliminate all the LTTE militant leaders during the final stages of the war.

The former commander claimed that he had no knowledge of the final stages of the war that there were key LTTE leaders willing to surrender.

Fonseka charged that communications were instead confined between the LTTE leaders, Norway, various foreign parties, senior adviser to the President and parliamentarian Basil Rajapaksa.

The ex-general said the senior LTTE leaders Nadesan, Ramesh and Pulidevan had been shot dead by government troops as they advanced towards them carrying a white flag.

Brigadier Shavendra Silva was shocked to hear the allegation when contacted to verify General Fonseka's accusations, the Sunday Leader said.

The 35 lax UNP vote base remains same no matter what. Thus I think Fony's statement is a calculated one for winning tamil vote base. We can expect now TNA and chandrasekaran joining Fony. He may even get pilliyan and CWC support.

WHen it comes to taking revenge from your enemy (sinhalayas) you (tamiz) just need enemy (GR/MR) destruction and you don't care about even your own future yet alone country.

SS is a major genaral now. Fony didn't promote SS after war victory as SS is more close to GR than himself. Fony was smart to put 58 in reserve at the first chance after they finish hard part of war observing SS growing popularity. As I said earlier Fony will take revenge not only from 1.MR 2.GR but also SLA officers who are closed to GR/JJ.

Moshe Dyan said...

no mess,

If any one hates MR he better abstain from voting, or vote one of other 10 candidates instead of Fony, provided voter is not in a mentality of taking revenge from GR.

When GR send some officers (close to fony) abroad and reshufflings in SLA after war victory even I was worried. I believed Fony should be given chance/ powers to strengthen SLA more. But now I understand why GR did so and why Fony couldn't become military government leader. GR knew the 'animal'. I feel sorry for GR and now have more respect.

thats true.

may be some of them (few in number though) will become stronger supporters now!!

tamil elam supporters are likely to positively take this due to 2 reasons.

1. (the main reason), "so, so, fonseka, tell us more"

so that we can frame you, GR, and all the others for war crimes charges

2. the lesser of the two evils - GR and SF - is SF for tamil elam parties.

Moshe Dyan said...

ninja,

don't worry. GR is not the type who will concede defeat to a traitor. he has a grand plan to rape this traitor.

thank god GR is not jesus who said if someone slapped you in the cheek, turn the other too.

we say, if anyone slaps you in the cheek, "spank" him/her, never mind the butt cheeks!!!!!

My UNP friends have no clarification for these contradictory statements.

1. I will abolish EP in 180 days. (How? I have no idea.)

2. I will resign if I can't abolish EP. (When? wait and see.)

3. I can't be ceremonial president like WG. (Then like who? JJ.)

4. I want to serve people, end corruption, give 10,000. (How? after abolishing EP? wait and see, its magic.)

So I found...

5. I will say whatever mongal/ ranil/ gona tell me and whatever come to my mouth.. I just need power, take revenge from GR.. I don't know any fcking thing abou EP, law, economy or any fcking thing.. Just vote for me.

Moshe Dyan said...

sam,

1. he is a tatrum thrower bcos his brain's frontal lobe has not developed properly. but in this case it was the NEW sunday leader that interviewed him. and as you can see, they didn't ask difficult questions (danuna, nanda menieke). so SF was relaxed as far as the interview went.

TF his statements were well calculated and prepared beforehand.

rule out the tantrum possibility.

2. certainly a puppet master is behind this. he is having the time of his puppeteering career!!!

3. the DHS "interview" of SF now assumes more significance. it was a big lie to make him self important and threaten GR.

4. blake visited them recently and strangely SF changed the tune after that???? looks like blake gave the second jab to SF

5. we have a very cunning MF. in sunday leader which is read by MORE TRAITORS, he weeps killing tigers. lankaenews which is read by a LESSER proportion of taritors, he says he did not say so.

6. right throughout SF's political career there is one main theme - INCONSISTENCY.

7. i want this DOG to be leashed and stripped off his medals. he is no longer a war hero. he is now not even suitable for the canine unit of the army, let alone the salvation army!!!

I was under pressure to stop the war even during the final phase. I got messages not to shoot those who are carrying white flags. A war is fought by soldiers. They do so by putting their livea on the line. Therefore, their decisions about war should be taken by the soldiers in the battle front. Not nth people in the AC rooms in Colombo. Our soldiers have seen in life the kind of destruction carried out by those people before they decides to come carrying a white flag. Therefore, they carried out their duties. We destroyed any one connected with the LTTE. That is how we won the war”.

Thanks Ananda USA and Thusitha for your clarification.

Many more ugly sides and many more contradictions of SF will come out in the coming days when the pressure gauge is rising.

I became extremely suspicious of this man when he did not come out and say the rumours that he was aligning with Ranil/Mangala is utter rubbish.

Then he said one of his close associate visited Mano Ganeshan with out his permission.

How can this close one be close to him and visit his "arch enemy without his knowledge on his behalf.

It is extremely dubious one can have pure intentions while embracing the Ranil clan.

If someone of calibre of MR was in power in 1978-1989, the LTTE problem could have been solved easily. Instead JR chose to remove sea patrol while agitating India and letting his forces oppress innocent Tamils instead of taking head on with the LTTE. This drove Tamil people to the jaws of shark, LTTE.

The new curse is Ranil.

During the war he or his side asked only one question valid. Why did the Arm Forces did not use air power and Navy power in the Muhamale debacle?

Even then they asked this question not to help the Nation to get it war strategy right but just to embarrass the Goernment.

If the UNP played its role in the war the war could have won with less destruction Sri Lanka would have seen a National Government of Economic war. Instead the UNP obstructed the path of the Government in every step of the way sometimes distracting the Government from its main objective.

We need stability for several years. LTTE has not been defeated yet. IF SRI LANKA plays its part right the LTTE would be just history politically as well as militarily and historically. AS LONG AS LTTE remains as a political movement there is a possibility that it would raise his ugly military head again.

We need strong border patrol and ready army and policies to strengthen, promote and safeguard political, individual rights of each and every citizen of the SRI LANKA NATION.

Diyasena said...

Its too early to say but, I have a feeling that the post election scenario might be like Iran..There will always be some minor malpractices here and there..But the monitors would be manipulated to say there were major ones, and the JVP (and to some extent UNP) would take the streets demanding a revote...While all this is happening their pals in PLA might launch a few attacks.

SARATH FONSEKA (of mother lanka).

Fony's GR ordered shoot statement made one thing clear for any 'on the fence voters'. Its UNP, mongal, IC etc all the time accused GSL for war crimes as they couldn't claim any credit for victory. Now fony also joined the team, got baptized and there can't be any issue for any floating voter what his side is.

Bugger! General Fonseka certainly crossed the line (of no return) with his ugly slur against Defence Secretary and Major General Shavendra Silva. These two are among the most honorable and decent Lankan patriots that one can think of. So with a touch of sadness I am going to replace 'German Soldiers' with 'General Fonseka' in the old drinking song known to us all.

General Fonseka Crossed the Line Parley-vous
General Fonseka Crossed the Line Parley-vous
General Fonseka Crossed the Line and Dipped His Balls in Turpentine
Hinky-dinky, parlez-vous?

Cheers!

Sarath Fonseka's interview with Sunday Leader was held in English or Sinhala. Sarath's English is not very good and he might have used the wrong word. Sunday Leader lady is not good in Sinhala so she might have given the wrong translation. He deserves a second chance.

I am not blindly supporting him. If he does this kind of things again I will be against him. What I'm saying is he deserves a second chance. He didn't pretend his injuries. Are we not happy Sarath comes instead of Ranil?

He said bad things because government throw mud at him. If government stop throwing mud he will stop.

Look at his clarification on LeN. It is not any better either. This time round similar charges, but he does not specify the name of the Commander (of course is SS).

No mate, he has crossed the line. It is o.k. to fuck with politicians, but not o.k. to fuck with the army, which he is doing indirectly.
Also if he is so bad with his English, he should have taken a an Interpreter. There is a limit we can excuse some person.

Ponseka has started exhibiting his real colours now; He is also admitting that he has nothing to do with the war and all heroic actions were taken by others including GR and SS.

After all, SF is confirming what opposition said about him during the war is all true. He is not even good for Salvation Army.

Moshe Dyan said...

GR's wise words that won the war should be applied to political solutions as well.

the broad framework of political solutions should be this.

NO DYING FOR OUR LAND, LET THEM DIE FOR THEIRS.

in other words, if they want a (home)land, they should die for it. otherwise they don't deserve it. that's not all they should win it this way.

we should not give them anything on a platter.

a federal structure would create a homeland as it has in tamil nadu, etc.

so federalism should be out as well.

anyway at least in SL, FEDERAL = TAMIL KINGDOM.

e.g. the federal party was also known as the tamil kingdom party.

therefore, federal = tamil kingdom.

next challenge is to appoint the gotabhaya of economics/development. PBJ is certainly not the guy.

My COMMENT:

President Mahinda Rajapaksa offered the opportunity to surrender SEVERAL times to ALL LTTE members during the war: 1 year before the end, 3 months before the end, 1 month before the end.

They REFUSED to do so believing that the pressure exerted by the LTTE Diaspora through Western Countries, including Hilary Clinton, would save their HIDES AGAIN, to give them another opportunity to continue their murder and mayhem. They MISCALCULATED BADLY and got WIPED OUT under battle conditions in the last two days of the war.

Which government can ENSURE SAFETY in a hotly contested BATTLEFIELD? Not the US, not the UK, not India, nor the holier-than-thou Western Nations who have fought two terrible World Wars targeting principally civilians, and certainly not the LTTE who executed over 1,000 police and army prisoners, after extracting their blood, captured after the fall of Mullaitivu!

BE REALISTIC GUYS .. these BASTARDS got what they RICHLY DESERVED!

Lanka denies surrendering Tigers were killed

ExpressBuzz.com
December 13, 2009

COLOMBO: The Sri Lankan government Sunday denied claims by a former army chief, who has turned presidential poll candidate, that orders had gone out not to spare rebel leaders who were willing to surrender during the final phase of the civil war which ended in May.

The final phase of the bloody war, which killed tens of thousands, concluded on May 18 after the rebel leader Velupillai Prabhakaran was killed. But other senior members of the rebel Tamil Tigers were killed in the final week.

Since then diplomats, Tamil politicians and foreign journalists have said that some of the rebels in a desperate attempt contacted them to surrender in the final stages of the battle.

Human Rights Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe told a news conference in Colombo that the claim of the former army chief, General Sarath Fonseka, was false.

Fonseka has opted to contest the upcoming presidential elections against the incumbent President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Fonseka has fallen out with President Rajapaksa's government after he was abruptly removed from the army chief's post, two weeks after he concluded the war, and was given another post which was considered a ceremonial office.

The rebels were carrying white flags in an attempt to fool the army and continue with the war, but they were not trying to surrender, Samarasinghe insisted.

Fonseka was quoted in the Sunday Leader newspaper as saying that orders were given by Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa to the field commanders that any of the rebel leaders trying to surrender should not be spared.

Head of the political wing of the rebels P. Nadesan, head of the rebel Peace Secretariat S. Pulidevan and military leader N. Ramesh were killed as they reportedly carried white flags and came to surrender to the army.

Accusations or whatever mud slinging should be among politicians. Fonzy has gone nuts and no sane politico in right mind accuse government officers or military officers calling names. It doesn't matter sinhal or english when you say names its the same.

And as Thusitha said if he is not good in english he better have a translator. Further, this SL interview is pre-arranged one and not unexpected one. So if PS is correct fonzy's english is not good yet he is not aware or he thinks otherwise. This is simple common sense no rocket science needed here. BTW, you don't need reasons to vote for fonzy, so no need of hair splitting arguments.

/Are we not happy Sarath comes instead of Ranil?/

his is the main point from my UNP friends as well. There were UNP voters who supported MR due to RW and main reason mongal to put fony was winning back this vote base. And he achieved it.

/He said bad things because government throw mud at him. If government stop throwing mud he will stop./

As I said before mud slinging (if you do it) should be among politicians and should not aimed at officers. BTW, is this the 'change we get'? HIKz

then when it went unanswered the text message came detailing out the surrender...

man it was 2 am in the morning and the last pitched battle was on...sec def was only connected through his special secure line with the battle and given the international pressure, they all were in the habit of not responding to calls.

so technically the surrender was informed but practically what can one expect.../

/Not only will he testify but he has material which will bring doom for the country...we know he has some 'material' we dont know just how much... /

/but we know that a set of 22 extremely sophisticated sniper guns, not used even by us, recovered from the ltte ,by the sinha regiment went missing...

the president therefore will limit his public addresses this time.../

/I cant reveal the details...

already deserters in the villages have been summoned by the generals team...games are becoming bitter...this might just be the ugliest and the most damaging election ever for the country.../

If LTTE wanted to surrender they had enough time and proper mechanisms to do it. Instead they were saying we would never surrender. Then at the last minute in the extreme chaos they might have chosen to surrender in a way that still they could boast that they did not surrender.

In a war field these kind of dubious games are extremely dangerous.

They wanted to surrender they would have internationally proclaimed that they were surrendering. They did not know even how to surrender.

Why did they want surrender in secrecy? Why did not they say to BBC that they were surrendering?

It is hard to believe that there were any genuine surrender. If there were it could have been another trick in the hope of escape.

Patriots,

I have been thinking about the planeload of arms the North Korean plane picked up in Thailand on its way to Sri Lanka. As you know, acting on a tip-off from US agents, before the plane could leave, the crew of the plane was arrested, and the cargo was impounded by the Thai security forces.

This is a VERY CURIOUS event that raises many questions in my mind:

A. Assuming the destination for the weapons was Sri Lanka,

A.1. How did they hope to get the weapons past the CUSTOMS and SECURITY inspectors? That points to collusion by officials at the airport, which I assume to be Katunayake.

Alternatively, could they used a landing strip in the Wanni? In that case, how did they expect to get past Sri Lankan radar surveillance?

A.2. Who would have wanted to use those weapons?

A.2.1. Residual LTTE operatives who wanted to strike at high-value targets, such as Prominent Political Leaders.

A.2.2. Residual LTTE operatives who wanted to disrupt national security by attacking civilian aircraft with the surface-to-air missiles included in the cargo.

A.2.3. A group of politically motivated people in Sri Lanka, having access to people with weapons know-how to operate these weapons, who wanted to stage a coup-de-etat.

Yes, you should connect the dots and ask who wanted a large force of security people selected by himself recently?

Who do you think is likely to be traveling around the country to election meetings in aircraft, perhaps belonging to the military, at this time?

A.3. Why would the US give a tip-off to prevent this cargo reaching Sri Lanka at this time, given that in the past they have favoured the Opposition parties in Sri Lanka? Very curious!

B. If the destination of the weapons is not Sri Lanka, what country, or organization, was it intended for?

B.1. Could the weapons have been intended to be delivered to the LTTE at a location outside Sri Lanka, for example in Tamil Nadu, or on an island belonging to the Maldives, or the Andaman islands?

B.2. Could the recipient be the Taliban, or the Al Quaida in Afghanistan? That would explain the tip-off from the US.

B.3. Could the recipients be the various Moslem terrorist groups in Indonesia and/or the Phillipines?

There is some uncertainty about the final destination of the weapons; it may not have been Sri Lanka.

The SL Ministry of Defence should get in touch with the Thai authorities to verify these matters, including who was providing these arms, and from what source. The Thai military is notoriously corrupt, and has been known to sell arms stolen from Thai government armories.

Did mysterious plane carrying arms plan to refuel in Colombo?

by Shamindra Ferdinando
December 12, 2009

Air Force Chief and acting Chief of Defence Staff Air Chief Marshal Roshan Goonetilike yesterday told The Island that armaments recovered from a mysterious transport aircraft seized on Saturday (Dec 12) in Thailand were not meant for Sri Lankan forces.

Sri Lanka had nothing to do with the consignment, he said adding that the aircraft may have planned to touch down at the Bandaranaike Internatio-nal Airport for refuelling, if it had escaped detection in Thailand. The flight originated in North Korea.

Intelligence sources told The Island that Sri Lanka had never obtained any of her military needs from North Korea though the LTTE did so for over a decade, using a fleet of ships and trawlers to transfer millions of dollars worth Chinese arms, ammunition and equipment via North Korea. Sources said that Colombo could have been the next port of call, but definitely not the final destination.

Sources said that the LTTE built several airfields in the Vanni east, particularly one in the Lullaitivu district to bring in plane-loads of arms. Sources added that a thorough investigation could establish whether the racketeers involved in the transfer of arms detected by Thailand were in anyway linked to the LTTE arms procurement operation.

A very interesting study on how the 55th Div out-thought and out-fought the previously 'invincible' LTTE.

Sri Lanka – The Last Phase in Eelam War IV From Chundikulam to Pudumattalan by Dr. S. Tammita-Delgoda

As I stood on the wall of the 14th bund, the soldier I was with turned to me: “In this division, we are not told, go and do this, go and get this. We are asked what we can do and how we can do it. We took two bunds today without losing a single man. Where else will you see that?”

It was a revealing moment. An indication of morale, confidence and pride, it was also a vindication of the philosophy of command.

[But why would Iran want (old Soviet) NK weapons?? ]

Diyasena, Moshe,

Well, Iran may have wanted to pass these onto Hezbollah and/or Hamas, Iran's clients.

Moshe, There is one large airstrip in the Wanni that has a hardtop, and was made by the LTTE for just this kind of landing by large weapons delivery planes.

I caught a thief red handed in my house one night. Sliced his calf with the sword I always keep for self defense. Am I a criminal? Do I need the court to tell me that this guy is really a thief or not? My experience in western countries suggests that there is a new breed of people who depend on the court or some system to tell them left from right. Of course such persons can misidentify a visitor from a thief and visitors need protection. Thus, harming a thief if caught is a punishable offence in such countries and mind you… thieves have rights too! at the expense of the rights of others.

War or not, does a Terrorist have any rights?
Of course, the right to Die! Nothing else.

Praise all those who helped the LTTE leaders to exercise their only right! and saved the rest.

When you say contradictory things you are lying or trying to hide some thing. Hidden intentions are dangerous in a democracy.

Harak Fonseka is the No 1 traitor sinhala nation has ever seen. History may forgive RW and others but not possible for this kind of traitor.

When I see what this fake-son doing honestly I need to say I am having now some respect for RW and his clan.

Its true that all people in your list have done much damage to my country. But almost every one has their own reasons.

WikramabahuK believes in his own maxist theories. RaufH, ManoG etc may be trying to get some thing special for their own races. Some may be after money and doing such things for living. RW became UNP leader by accident(s) and perhaps he does what he thinks good to get power. But this traitor..?

Sam, yeah it is about time. The only question is whether to put him after of before Ahelepola in our nations traitors list.
If some thinks this is because SF jointed UNP, that is wrong. Janak Perera, Lucky Algama and others Joined UNP as well and contested. No one called them traitors. So, this is not about him teaming up with UNP, but his conduct, which is unbecoming of a military officer.

Ehelepola was after power, he put himself before country. But at least he had some sort of valid reason in those days context... he thought he as a sinhala leader deserved to be king instead of waduga king and he had a deal with british but he failed. But this traitor..?

I need to say I should show some respect for MD for saying first months ago to 'get rid of him'.

Wimal Weerawansha is doing a great job demolishing SF. Haha. Without a doubt, the comments by SF is an experiment by U.N.P. U.N.P. must have fed the punnaku to SF. Even at the beginning of SF campaign, I mentioned that he should get the help of really good politicians. Wonder who his main political advisers are. If he does bit of team work and get advice from others before who goes on to make statements like this he would never be in such a situation. Then again, SF doesn't seem to work in teams.

My Comment at ExpressBuzz.com:

Tigers should have surrendered 1 year, 3 months or 1 month before the end, when they were offered the opportunity to surrender by President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

What is this talk of surrender in the midst of a hot battle on the last day of the WAR. and this from SUICIDAL Tigers!

They want the OPPORTUNITY to fight to the last moment, and then the OPPORTUNITY to SURRENDER at the last moment!

For Pete's sake ... give us a break from this Bleeding Heart NONSENSE!

These BUGGERS got what they RICHLY DESERVED ... FINALLY, in SPADES!

PRAISE BE TO THE LORD IN THE HIGHEST!

JUSTICE at last!

harak gonseka belongs to the JPB list.

earlier i arrived at the same conclusion going by traditional wisdom - "a man is judged by the company he keeps".

now, there is no need for it. he has openly come out with it.

anyway SF's name does not stand out in the list of JPB. have a look at the team.

yea, that seems likely. that's what has been happening all along. NK weapons are damn cheap and if hezbullah, etc. uses them, the origin (make) cannot be traced to iran!!

kevin,

the plane cannot reach somalia without refuelling again after SL.

can't understand why??

afterall its based on SELF ADMISSION.

a grade 9 girl CANNOT give consent. this is a crime.

that was not stopped by the army in 1973 in dematagoda.

that is why in 1975 a worse crime was committed in diyatalawa by the same offender, a trash fake son (of mother lanka).

truth hurts.

Thusitha:

Your observation that SF is a myth created by us is spot on.

Always our criticisms and praise are reflections of our soul and needs.

Some Dharmasokians (I am one too but choose not to support SF)support SF just for the sake of the school name.

Some Ambalangoda people (I am one to but oppose SF) support SF
for paraochial pride and personal benefit(one day they can visit the President SF at his Maha Gedara and get some faours).

So before we praise or criticise, we need to criticise ourselves.

Only then our cirticism or praise can be genuine.

SF has done his part in the military victory. No denying that.

I speculate he might have done some serious damage too. My specualtion is thar his contribution was largely due to his ruthlessness. He simply did not care. Daring as Hitler was.

My opposition to SF comes from the fear that he could be a extremely cruel dictator.

When I listen to him I feel like I am listening to an ice cold corpse.

When you listen to SB( no matter how much you dispise him this does not happen).

My fear came as a response to his association with UNP and JVP. It cannot be logically fathomed his associatio unless we assume that he is after power to satisfy his ego. Then his erratic behaviour.

Extremely dangerous, I feel.

Why take chances?

Top Scum of Sri Lanka - Jaathiye Paahara Ballo

Featured Scum of the Day
Sarath Fonseka

I never expected this day to arrive. Even today, I write with the greatest hesitation. Fonseka has betrayed the trust of the nation and the army who faithfully served his command. The media conference Fonseka had Sunday further emphasized his treacherous act (Check 3:24 sec). As expected, Fonseka is now trying hard to control the damage to his own political career, not the national security of Sri Lanka. However hard he tries he went on the record twice, once with Sunday Times and then for the second time at this media conference, slandering our forces. True to it's meaning, Fonseka has risen back with fleas after laying down with the dogs Ranil, Mangala, Mano, and Rauf. Unfortunately, the fleas he got from the top scum of Sri Lanka infected him with an incurable decease called the top scum decease.

It is my sad duty to announce the untimely death of the war hero General Sarath Fonseka for all practical purposes. It is also my sad duty to announce the birth of the top scum politician Fonseka.

mate, i know your source about nanda menike. now i believe you. such a great man, humble and a gent. we would have won the war a bit earlier if that idiot didn't do BS with such good talent.
Your statement is confusing unless you explain it with following clarifications:
If Nanda Menike’s story is true; how come he is such a great man, humble and gent?
How can we have won the war earlier if that idiot didn’t do BS with such good talent?
What you want to say exactly and whom you are referring to?

Pledging the allegiance to MR is insufficient to bring them out of the status. To begin with, they need to openly apologize the patriotic masses for their past top scum action.

MR is not SL. anyone can join MR but if they are JPBs, they will still remain JPBs.

MR won't become a JPB by association bcos the overwhelming majority of MR's leaders are still patriots.

Sri Lankan war crimes video is authentic, Times investigation finds

This is what happens when SF makes war crime charges against GR and our armed forces. The western MF again try to level war crime charges.

There are renewed appeals for war crimes investigation against Blair due to the recent comments he made. Therefore every one in SL must understand that the war crime charges that gets levelled at us would not disappear within few years. They will be dormant till new evidence come up, and would at least go on for next 15-20 years.

So people must be very careful when they make statements to the media; if you can't express your self properly, make sure to keep your mouth shut or talk to through an intermediary.

SF gives a NIXONIAN explanation; Says "he mis-spoke himself"

........
Sri Lanka ex-General u-turns, says he accepts responsibility for military operations

ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Dec 14, Colombo: Sri Lanka's presidential candidate former military chief General Sarath Fonseka reversing his accusations said he takes full responsibility for the military operations of the Army and his Sunday's statements were misinterpreted by the media.

Addressing media the ex-military chief said the Army has never committed any war crimes and has acted according to international of humanitarian laws. As the then Sri Lanka Army Commander, he takes full responsibility for all the military operations, he said.

In an interview to the Sunday Leader newspaper, the former commander accused the Secretary of Defence of ordering to kill the surrendering LTTE leaders and Commander of the 58 Division, then Brigadier, now Major General Shavendra Silva of carrying out the orders.

General Fonseka has explained to the Sunday Leader how three senior LTTE leaders, Pulidevan, Nadesan and Romesh who were trying to surrender with raised white flags to the security forces were instead shot dead by Major General Silva's troops.

In the interview General Fonseka said he later learnt about what exactly had taken place from the embedded journalists in Major General Silva's brigade command.

According to the General Fonseka, the journalists heard the telephone call received by the Major General Silva the Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa ordering him not to accommodate any LTTE surrenders but to simply go ahead and kill them.

"These journalists later told me what exactly took place," Fonseka has told the newspaper.

However, today at the media briefing the ex-General said the media that interviewed him misinterpreted his statement.

"As far as I know there were nobody with white flags or raised hands who tried to surrender on the night of May 17, 18 or 19. My order to the troops was to kill all terrorists. And they did that. Only the next day they were able to identify the bodies of terrorist leaders like Pulidevan, Nadesan among the bodies of those killed. There was no human rights violation or any illegal killings. If there are accusations, I am prepared to answer them in any court or tribunal on behalf of the troops," Sarath Fonseka said.

Following the Sunday Leader interview, General Fonseka came under severe criticism from all sectors of the country and from Sri Lankan expatriates for betraying his former subordinates and the country and playing into the hands of international forces.

The government vehemently denied his allegations and even hinted that they would pursue legal action for maliciously tarnishing the image of the country.
