Fonseka says tanks moved to Colomboby Denagame Dhammika Ranaweera
Opposition presidential candidate General (retd) Sarath Fonseka said that the government had moved 20 armoured fighting vehicles to Colombo on Monday this week. Addressing a propaganda meeting at Makandura, Matara, Fonseka said that the either the government was scared or planning to cause trouble after the January 26 presidential polls.

He said that the government had held elections to five Provincial Councils during his tenure as the Commander of the Army. "I never played politics at that time," he said.

Island 21/01/2010

This man, SF, is a maniac. He cannot understand his place. How could he play any politics when he was in the military. He cannot even say that I did not play politics when I was in the military because he was not simply supposed to do so. It was prohibitted to do so. This man says that he did not. It indicates that he could have since he did not it was his virtue.

The fact of the matter is he played politics and he established a military regime in Ambalangoda are for short duration.

He could not extend it for the whole country for a longer duration since the Army was not with him.

lovely!!

"Danuna, you are not only guilty for this crime, you are also guilty for treason. You held talks with Balasubramanium of Vancouver, one of the main LTTE figurs in Canada and discussed possibilities of supplying same items you supplied to the SL army. In that, you, your father in law (SF)(uncle in your langusge) and Malinda discussed of taking 30 cents from each bullet that you supply to LTTE. The plan was to keep 10 cents each. The plan did not work, as far as I know, but you at least were thinking of making money by providing bullets to the both sides. Your plan was to buy bullets from Russia and sell to the both sides. I still meet Bala."

thanks SK

pol,

thanks for the info.

infact i took up the matter with MR campaigners.

they discount it and said anyway they have drafted the plan already for the final stages of the campaign and cannot change it.

they accepted that they cannot respond quickly to emerging challenges.

this is already known to gonz camp and THAT IS WHY the gonz camp plan to do this.

it is OLD MONGAL's 1999 logic.

2. major election violence is actually less this time comparatively.

i have to admit i was driven to believe what i heard from a campaigner of the gonz camp!!

Sam, Yes.

But UNP website internet poll, being bias towards UNP, is very interesting that MR is leading SF.

It is also possible that even though we think that UNP website is visited mostly by UNP, it could be that MR' supporters are the ones mostly visiting the website.

Then SAM, your verdict is the right one.

Oh lookie here, the 'ole "concerned" gang is back:

EU’s Ashton “deeply concerned” by Lankan political violence

http://www.adaderana.lk/news.php?nid=6931

Ban concerned over rising violence ahead of Lankan Prez polls

http://www.adaderana.lk/news.php?nid=6930

They were "concerned" about a blood bath as well, engineered the conditions for one with their Tiger pets, but when our Army did not fall for it they went around saying it happened anyway and fabricating evidence for it.
They were " concerned " about "war crimes" a few weeks before the new concern of "blood bath" and we saw the same fabricated evidence as well.

This confirms that poll violence has been planned; this is part of the early groundwork.

If these bogus concerns fail to bear early fruit, we should be ready for a high geared propaganda campaign, one or two staged incidents with their lackeys here and there (JVP are experts at such) is all it takes for their spin media to deliver the desired results. They hate being proven wrong and humiliated and they are masters of spin and out right lying after all.

President to open Diyagama International Sports Complex on 21st

ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Jan 19, Colombo: Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa is to declare open the Diyagama International Sports Complex on 21st January.

Spread over 156 acres, the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium in Diyagama, Homagama, about 15 kilometers southeast of capital Colombo, will facilitate the sports of rugby, soccer, as well as athletics including track and field. The ground comprises a swimming pool, a rifle shooting range and a gymnasium.

The environmentally friendly sport complex houses two pavilions, one for the ball games and another for the track and field events that can accommodate more than 3000 spectators each.

The foundation stone for the complex was laid on 05th of June 2006.

The 7th engineering services division of the Sri Lanka Army was in-charge of construction.

How come they were not "concerned" about poll violence in previous elections? The "poll violence" you see today is nothing compared to years ago (no matter how much violence they try to spark).

It is like the French Minister who all of a sudden was worried about monsoon rains, a documented phenomena existing in Lanka and used by the Sinhala of yesteryear when constructing the great hydraulic civilisation, long long before this white surrender monkey and the rest of his kind crawled out of a cave looking for the wheel. But suddenly in 2009 monsoon rains are a human rights issue.

Agree but we need to consider reality that is there are some people consider caste in marrying and voting. Now even if this set is 1% when voting its about 200000 votes. However I mentioned it there as an observation only.

SF=Idi Amin but many may not know who is Idi Amin;

Tamils specially after 83 wanted a 'savior' and they left with VP as the only choice. Tamils had no chance or time to test or change their option.

In contrast, sinhalese wanted a 'hero' after war. Thanks to successful media campaign by SF and as non-political figure he was the ultimate choice. Fortunately, sinhalese had chance to vote and time to think, decide and test in the campaign period.

SF is sinhala version of VP. Some tamils loved, embraced and worshiped their future destroyer. Some sinhalese love, embrace and worship our future destroyer.

Some tamils were dumb so they couldn't understand why and how LTTE made some victories so they thought its due to some super natural power with VP. Some sinhalese are dumb so they can't understand how we won the war and they think its due to some super genies power of SF and he will eliminate corruption.

VP wanted to be 'king' of his own country and SF is heading for same.

Ironically, sinhalese too played a major role creating VP and tamil too now playing major role creating SF.

For his credit, should mention VP didn't have rape cases etc. But our man does. So he will be some thing more than VP.

India bemoans attack on its subjects in Australia
Politics

ExpressBuzz.com
January 20, 2009

NEW DELHI , Jan 20 (KUNA) -- Amid the increased spate of incidents of attacks on Indians in Australia, India's External Affairs Minister Somanhalli Mallaiah Krishna said Wednesday that such incidents do not "augur well" for Indo-Oz ties, said media reports.
As many as five Indian cabbies have been attacked in Australia during the past week. Last month one Indian cabbie was even killed in one such attack.
Indian ministers statement assumes significance even as he had recently indicated a possibility of Indian Government advising Indian students not to go to Australia if the attacks on them continued.
About the latest incident of attack on an Indian cabbie yesterday, Krishna said that he was expecting a report from the Indian High Commissioner to Australia about it. "I have just heard the news. I am expecting a report from our High Commissioner and after getting the report perhaps I must have something to say," he said.
He, however, added: "But, it is very unfortunate that they keep repeating, which does not augur well for our bilateral relationship." (end) py.ajs KUNA 201631 Jan 10NNNN

This is the kind of justice they advocated for SL to, Tamil terrorist and suicide bombers are free to do as they please with their human rights intact while the victims of their barbarism have no rights at all. The dedicated men in and women in uniform who try and protect us are "war criminals" who should not hinder terrorists and their bombers work because that will violate their "freedom" to kill and denying this "freedom" is not only wrong but needs to be punished as we are constantly told by the West and their local lackeys.

623,678 * 55% = 343,000

this is the correct number of voters in jaffna.

the jaffna pop is only 500,000.

which MF approved the total registered voters number of 623,678????

Gonseka and his goons forcefully close roads to allow themselves to pass threw, when courts explicitly stated that such action by him was illegal.

Just like Gonseka illegally occupying state property even when told to leave and also promising to do so. A good microcosm of what his promises, and his Presidency will be like.

[[I am very surprised that you can call SF a hero. Can I say to my children that SF was a great hero. No, never. A hero needs to be a good role model. If he is a good role model that kids should follow, that would be the end of SL.]]

I did not state that SF is a hero in my statement. I was only saying that the conduct of SLDF under him, as known to us by then [as we didnt know of HICORP etc], was good. And Miss In For Mating's challenge on our integrity is baseless.

I still stand that conduct of SLDF under SF was right and the acts of the military and their outcome was acceptable within the realities of a war. SF has his weaknesses, but he was a fitting general to play his part in that war. Just because he betrayed the nation afterward, I am unable to say the previous act is also wrong. [In saying so, most of you mistakenly risk the same defamation on SLDF anyway]

Sorry that you misread my comment. In the very comment you can see that I have explained why we consider SF as a traitor right now.

Folks, in case some of you are having suspicions, I do not support SF, in this election. But I do have my criticism over matters in SL, although I vote for MR.

If we keep on ignoring facts and endlessly FORCE the same rhetoric, we're no diff to ITN. Sorry, I disagree. Let's consider facts fairly and within that prove that we shud be voting MR, which is still the sane decision.

Note that this campaign shud be targetting those who plan to vote SF right now, not those who already decided to vote MR. Also note that there is a very tiny amount of undecided voters, expecially among sinhala group.

We need to be trusted first up. If we keep on playing an ideological bully and shooting everything in the side of SF and worship everything in the side of MR, I doubt whether there is any worth than a mere boast.

SK,

SF's appointment to the role was due to the following reasons. NONE of them make him a hero.

1. JVP's insistance

2. SF has shown meekly arselicking abilities which the rajapakshas liked at that time.

3. SF was a good infantryman although he had lost a number of battles.

4. SF was ruthless and this means he could be pushed further than most others.

5. there was a lack of senior army guys at that time. a senior guy was necessary bcos GR planned to empower many younger brigadiers. they could only be kept under a very senior officer.

6. SF didn't have a backbone. he never was the type who will resign due to differences of professional opinion.

7. he had a horrible past which could be used against him, if he tried to be too smart.

8. he had experience fighting in the jaffna peninsula.

Oh dear. You forgot the part about Idi Amin eating his enemies... hasn't somebody made up a cannibalism story on SF yet?

Why don't we compare MR to RM... Robert Mugabe? When you see MR in a mirror you see RM.

1. Both legitimate national heroes who "could have been contenders" but opted for personal power over their country's best interests.

2. Both appoint family members and cronies who pillage the nations treasuries.

3. Both suppress press freedoms and jail/harass/kill journalists who don't tow party line.

4. Both maintain draconian laws that usurp the constitution.

5. Both use government resources and money to promote themselves during dubious elections.

6. Both have recognised war criminals in cabinet... oh wait...Mugabe does not, only MR who has Karuna as a shining example of sleeping with moral whores.

7. Both are seen around the world as despotic, anti-democratic rulers whose only friends tend to be failed states like Burma, Vietnam and Pakistan.

8. Both have made deals with the repressive Chinese who are happy to sell arms and make resource deals with countries who don't know any better and will pay a dear price later.

9. Both are involved in destructive land resettlement issues that serve primarily to enrich friends and cronies.

10. Both use election violence as a tool against fairness, democracy and individual rights.

We could go on and on but why bother?

Miss In For Mating;

You missed a few.

- Both address ppl via public meetings

- Both watch TV

- Both can speak

- Both have eyes, ears and nose.

Let me outline why you compare MR to Mugabe. There is a specific reason why you mentioned each of these imaginary facts.

[[1. Both legitimate national heroes who "could have been contenders" but opted for personal power over their country's best interests]]

You are hurt with teh fact taht we won teh war while you supported teh terras.

[[2. Both appoint family members and cronies who pillage the nations treasuries.]]

GR is a pain in your a**.

[[3. Both suppress press freedoms and jail/harass/kill journalists who don't tow party line]]

Hurt as the scummy called Pissanayagam was caught supporting terras and imprisoned. Plus another scummy called Lasantha W'tunga received a fitting treat [call me a non-democratic now]

[[4. Both maintain draconian laws that usurp the constitution.]]

Not because of exe presidency but because of the Prevention of Terrorism and Emergency law. Two of the thorns in every terror supporter's eye.

[[5. Both use government resources and money to promote themselves during dubious elections]]

Can not stand the personality of Mr anymore. Cannot stand the praises that he gets.

[[6. Both have recognised war criminals in cabinet... oh wait...Mugabe does not, only MR who has Karuna as a shining example of sleeping with moral whores]]

Unable to stand teh fact that Karuna joined us and worked for one united SL. [note atht a former polpot terrorist Hun Sen lead Cambodia, good or bad he turned out, you gotta accept the need for a man to change]. Can't stand teh fact the string non-eelamist tamil presence in MR govt. Unable to stand taht a tamil is against eelam.

[[7. Both are seen around the world as despotic, anti-democratic rulers whose only friends tend to be failed states like Burma, Vietnam and Pakistan.]]

Your world is limited o what you think as USA, EU, Canada and Aus. About 6 mnths ago, a major UN vote against us was repulsed.

You cannot stand a SL that stands firm. You wanna see SL a**e-licking west like you do for some dollars.

[[8. Both have made deals with the repressive Chinese who are happy to sell arms and make resource deals with countries who don't know any better and will pay a dear price later.]]

Cannot stand teh chinese alliance of SL. Hurt as we decimated your beloved pussycats with chinese weapons. Yeah baby whole world is ramming your behind right now. Stop hating it.

[[9. Both are involved in destructive land resettlement issues that serve primarily to enrich friends and cronies.]]

Cannot stand multi-national resettlement of North. We know taht, and one of teh main reasons why we'd vote for MR.

[[10. Both use election violence as a tool against fairness, democracy and individual rights. ]]

Twisted fact. Part of the defamation plan.

- As soon as a woman died in Hungama, a case which is still not known the reason for, you HR scummies started howling

- Most complains are made double or triple times to show taht there are so many election violance.

- Most deaths are in Mr's camp, most shootings are made against them, still you use them also against Mr himself.

- Now you got UN to issue notices.

It is clear what teh agenda is about. We fear more, in next few days.

A report none of you could write

In the last few months I have been in and out of Paris a fair bit and made it a point to talk to as many regular Joe-on-the-street diaspora as possible. The majority of these folks were Sri Lankans who were northern Tamils.

Where as some folks will tell you there is a widely held sense of political cohesion in the diaspora I saw little evidence of it in Paris. My methodology was casual and as such my opinion more anecdotal than anything else but after talking to dozens of folks I think a pattern is easily detected.

To keep things short I have condensed and simplified (so Sam can read it too {wink}) my observations.

******

Firstly, very few interviewed lamented the end of the LTTE. Yes, a number were still vociferously behind the failed terrorists but most seemed relieved that Tamil views did not have to be filtered and presented through the lens of Praba's making.

Secondly, a surprising number of those I spoke with were basically non-informed of the news surrounding the upcoming elections and, frankly, were not very interested in the least. I concluded that there was no serious grass-roots movement in the Paris diaspora to encourage folks towards a greater involvement in the process.

I think this a good trend for long-term stability as the election process, as flawed as it is right now, is one of and for the people who live in Sri Lanka.

Thirdly, only two of the interviewed had any interest in returning to Sri Lanka and one could understand preferring to run a shop in the Paris suburbs to trying to start a business from scratch in war-ravaged Kili. There was also a sentiment that Tamils will never get proper treatment from the GoSL and neither MR or SF could or would ever deliver any related promises so why bother.
(Apathy was rampant in these talks)

Fourth, most folks were not stuck on the idea of a separate Tamil state and of those who were started to discuss Tamil Nadu as that place.

In summary... the absolute crushing of the terrorists and the vacuum in their absence has not been appropriated effectively by anyone in the diaspora movement. Few have great hopes for Sri Lanka but even fewer felt violence was a future option.

If the GoSL, under either SF or MR, can muster even a little gumption to address legitimate Tamil concerns every year for a decade (a big if of course) there is little doubt in my mind that any kind of appreciable support for "Eelam" on Sri Lankan soil by violent methods will all but disappear.

I think many of the diaspora realise now that the corrupt leadership of the LTTE were no better than the corrupt leadership of the GoSL. I don't think it would take much goodwill from the next government to convince more and more of the diaspora to let go of Eelam as it is both already lost and in truth few want to move back to Sri Lanka after years and years of living in the west.

Hopefully the next government has the guts to do the right thing... there is much long-term good to be had by a humble and helping hand.

Miss In For Mating;

Good girl, but you just tell me that you know a very little about Diaspora Tamils, Pussycats and surveying in general.

- The matter of tamil terrosism, cannot be comprehended by talking to few stray diaspora tamils.

- Generally in diaspora, matters regarding Pussycats are decided at the level of pussycat bigwigs and support movements of those countries.

- Then they endorse for the support on the basis that Sinhala govt/army is doing X Y Z etc. The facts that you gather for them, and the fake stories that you creatively write for them are used very much.

- There need not be any discrimination. It can be creatively written. You saw how little educated these folks are on SL matters. They are easy ducks for every lie.

- Most ppl in Diaspora are fooled. This is done on the basis of selling punnakku news among them. Read your favorite sites for examples.

- Some in diaspora are even forced.

- Any "knowing" ppl [of SL matters] are killed or silenced.

- So the diaspora drive for future violence and separation attempts in SL is handled by those who run the pussycat and other separatist movements there. Not those poor tamils who waste their time with a school gal from far away land.

- Every time they want they will find a fitting marketing ploy to fool the ppl whom you met and strayed with rather innocently in Paris streets.

- Elimination of that threat cannot be achieved in devolution. It depneds on how we silence, eliminate or force to desert those elements still working for the plan. Not only diaspora pussycats but also this includes the monitoring, spying, legal actions and elimination of likes of your HR astral cousins too.

- And of course how we can bring better laws against such acts.

- Also important is to generalize the population of Sri Lanka eliminating mono-ethnic hatching grounds of terrorism.

By the way

- Devolution of some powers, those matter in development, admin, and day-today life is very good for SL, but that is not connected with or resulted by the tamil terrorism. It is not a solution to any imaginary ethnic crisis here, and shud not be given due to the blackmail of "the threat". It will not solve a damn thing as the liars can lie no matter what [SF is proving that right now].

Hope you got a blink of a lime light.

BTW, it is good news again. The sample of SF converts whom I was whining about seem to have got shaken a bit. Not all but few. However it is teh first time in their new alliance they seem to show some shake.

Reason, the great speech given by RW to GTV. When SF himself betrayed SLDF, these ppl still said that SF will not do so, since they took SF as a hero. But RW - the designated traitor has betrayed the nation again in the hands of pussycats and that is surely believed by ppl. They are worried about what he said there.

Great work by whoever got the news from GTV. And see the best marketing method. No conclusion given, just the subtle news spread. And public decide.

Question is why did MR declare an election then? Only "dictator" to have an election earlier than scheduled hikz.

This is of course like the tactics used by Tamils/West to make "them all bad". We called them terrorists; they called us terrorists (then genociders). Mangala and his goebellian propaganda machine went into over time in Matara. Mangala does not want to loose his seat. During the war his treachery cost him popularity there and was on his way out, but Gonseka initiative gave him a boost, until the SundayLeader outburst where things went down hill again. The TNA deal and NFF sting operation also cost dearly. I have family there and trust in Mangala has declined rapidly as his mouth is just as flawed as his deeds.

I agree Colombo and Kandy are by far MRs tough areas. Then again those two are UNP hot beds, Colombo after all is filled with the anti-nationalistic kalu suddha elite. MR can crack Kandy though because of SB (as much as I hate the SoB he is proving useful).

The police are investigating an alleged attempt to assassinate National Freedom Front leader Wimal Weerawansa, MP, at a recent propaganda rally in the Homagama electorate.

Sources said that security personnel deployed at a check point close to Jalthara, Homagama where Weerawansa had addressed a gathering last Sunday (Jan 17) arrested a person carrying a galkattas (improvised gun).

The police say that subsequent investigations revealed that the suspect had been a member of the Deshapremi Janatha Viyaparaya (DJV), the military wing of the JVP. He had been detained at Boossa for about two years and was believed to be planning to target the former JVP heavyweight.

They said that at the time security personnel stopped him, he was riding a motor cycle. According to sources the suspect had told police that he was targeting another person though there was no evidence to substantiate that claim. The suspect was planning to leave for Malaysia via Singapore, the sources said. (SF)

Terror campaign planned by opposition for election eve says MR

.........
SF Realizes defeat, says Mahinda

By Sandun A Jayasekera in Matara
January 21, 2009

President Mahinda Rajapaksa said he would not let the ugly head of terrorism in the North or South to rise again as long as he remains the leader of this country because all communities in Sri Lanka have suffered enough from both Sinhala and Tamil extremism.

Addressing an election rally at the Sanath Jayasuriya Sports Ground in Matara last afternoon, President Rajapaksa said he had information that attempts are being made to unleash terror in the South by various groups to create a fear psychosis among the voters just prior to January 26 election day.

"Realizing their imminent defeat they have resorted to their old tactics of terrorizing the people to prevent them from voting. They are well trained in these dirty tricks because they have done them in 1998-1999 terror campaign," President Rajapaksa said.

The unprecedented voter support from the length and breadth of the country indicates that the UPFA is to achieve a historic victory on January 27.
I had to confront a plethora of challenges at the time I assumed office as the President in 2005. The country was on the verge of total separation. The North had been vested with the LTTE through a Cease Fire Agreement signed between Velupillai Prabhakaran and then Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

The LTTE had established courts, police, naval and air forces. The LTTE had its radio broadcast and set up a TV station during the existence of the CFA. Not only traders and civilians even the pilgrims had to pay ransom to the LTTE when they crossed over to the North from the South. In short, the LTTE had set up their virtual Eelam State in the North.

The armed forces had a negative mentality. They had been convinced that the LTTE was such a dominant and ferocious terrorist organization nobody could dominate over. No one dared to call a terrorist a terrorist or a tiger a tiger. Suspicion, mistrust and fear had been written on all faces whether they were Sinhalese, Tamils, Muslims, Burgers or Malays.

Terror campaign planned by opposition for election eve says MR

.....continued...
Sri Lanka was an outcast in the international community and was a symbol of a failed state. Nobody wanted to come to this country for more than one reason. Insecurity, fear and misery were everywhere.
"It was this country that I transformed to be the best tourist destination in the world as named by the New York Times. It was this country that has become one of the most peaceful countries in the entire world. Not a single person was killed since the conclusion of the humanitarian operation on May 18. Not a single bomb had exploded in any part of the country from that day. My government has launched a huge development program to make Sri Lanka self sufficient in rice and electricity in addition to making it the most vibrant and developed economy in Asia,"President Rajapaksa emphasized.

"Now I have been challenged for doing all these for the country. They want to replace with a person who is a novice to politics".
The future generation of the country is to reap the benefits of our development drive in the next few years. The aim of the government is to make Sri Lanka one of the highest income earning countries in the region with farmers, fishermen, public servants and all other service providers and craftsmen double their income in the next two years. This government has the capability and the resources to do it.

"The decision the people of this country must take on January 26 is whether to be the partners of progress with me or perish with your children by taking a wrong decision that would make you repent in the rest of your life," President Rajapaksa stressed.

Malani in rally

The highlight of the rally was the address by popular actress Malani Fonseka who took to the political stage for the first time.

Addressing the gathering she went on to say that artistes, sportsmen, intellectuals and the business community have come forward to throw their weight behind President Rajapaksa because the country is under threat of disintegration less than a year after liberation by the heroic armed forces under the guidance of President Rajapaksa.

Not a single Sri Lankan whether he or she a Sinhalese, Tamil, Muslim, Burgher or a Malay who knows the meaning of gratitude could vote against President Rajapaksa.

"We have seen terrorism and suffered from it for 30 years. It was only President Rajapksa who could restore peace and harmony in Sri Lanka which no other5 leader could achieve. All other issues must take a back seat when we decide on whom we are going t vote on January 26. The eradication of terrorism and uniting the country alone are enough to vote for President Rajapaksa on January 26," Miss Fonseka said.
The rally had been organized by Transport Minister Dulles Alahapperuma.

Govt. brings in heavy guns to counter Opposition

Maj. Gen says some countries
hindered war against LTTE
‘Only 3 per cent of the war
displaced remained to be re-settled in Trinco’

by Shamindra Ferdinando
January 21, 2009

Major General Prasanna Silva says that a section of the international community not only rejected Sri Lanka’s calls for arms, ammunition and equipment but also prevented aircraft carrying urgently needed items from flying over their airspace.

The former General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 55 Division said that President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s government had bought in the required armaments to bolster the army’s firepower in spite of obstacles.

Silva, currently the GOC of the 22 Division headquartered in Trincomalee said that contrary to claims, the Rajapaksa government had provided a range of weapons and equipment, which helped the government forces to destroy the LTTE’s military wing last May.

Participating in a Sinhala language political programme aired over Rupavahini, the former Special Forces Commander paid a glowing tribute to the Sri Lanka Air Force for throwing its weight behind the army. Commenting on operations carried out by the 55 Division under his command, Silva said that the SLAF jets and helicopter gunships had made their task easier. The SLAF had facilitated the evacuation of the wounded, a challenging task, particularly when the infantry crossed a lagoon under fire, he said. Despite severe constraints, the SLAF had played a remarkable role, he said emphasising he had never seen the SLAF going all out during previous engagements. SLAF personnel had engaged in evacuation operations even risking their own lives, he said.

Silva said that the deployment of UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) on surveillance missions had provided real time battle ground pictures to him, thereby helping him with decision making.

The government is under heavy fire for using senior Army officers to dispute Opposition presidential candidate General (redt) Sarath Fonseka. The Opposition said that the government shouldn’t have involved serving officers in its propaganda campaign directed against the former Army Commander. But regardless of criticism, senior officers, including Major General Kamal Gunaratne (former GOC of the 53 Division), Major General Shavendra Silva (former GOC of the 58 Division) and Major General Chagi Gallage recently appeared on State TV.

Govt. brings in heavy guns to counter Opposition

....continued.....
Maj. Gen. Silva said that there was absolutely no truth in the claim that the Army had killed LTTE cadres, who surrendered on the Vanni front. The Army had evacuated wounded LTTE cadres, some of them airlifted to hospital though some interested parties criticised the government for ill-treating the enemy. No one should forget that there were over 11,000 LTTE cadres in government custody, he stressed.

Silva said that the government should tell the world how the enemy was treated during the war and after the end of operations last May.

According to him, one of the primary reasons for their success was the availability of the required manpower. Challenging battlefield objectives couldn’t have been met without the Army receiving fresh recruits, he said.

During the final phase of the offensive, his Division advancing along the north-eastern coast rescued about 15,000 men, women and children without any loss of life among the civilians.

Responding to interviewer Chamuditha Samarawickrema, Silva said that at one point the Army had wondered whether they could hold their Muhamalai frontline let alone break through the LTTE northern defence line, a well built complex backed by artillery pieces, mortars and strong points.

Unlike any other previous leader, President Mahinda Rajapaksa had visited frontline troops to boost their morale.

The former soldier Defence Secretary, Gotabhaya Rajapaksa had, Maj. Gen. Silva said, brought the three services and the police together. He had acted swiftly and decisively, intervening to deploy the SLAF to evacuate a wounded soldier from Vakarai during the height of the battle in the East.

Since the end of the Eelam war last May, the government and security forces had done a tremendous amount of work in the Northern and Eastern Provinces, he said. In the Trincomalee District there were only three per cent of IDPs to be resettled. The resettlement process had been somewhat delayed due to slow progress in mine clearing operations, he said. The army de-mining units were primarily engaged in mine clearing operations in the Vanni thereby causing a delay in humanitarian de-mining operations in the Trincomalee District, where two areas were to be cleared. The second reason for the delay in completion of resettlement in the district was the need to relocate the war displaced elsewhere as the government had taken over their land for development work, he said.

The Army was actively supporting development work in the District in support of the government’s overall strategy to restore normalcy in the Northern and Eastern Provinces, he said.

Sri Lanka Economy GREW to become a Middle Income Emerging Market during Mahinda Rajapaksa's Governance, says the IMF!

...........
Sri Lanka upgraded to Middle Income Emerging Market Status

ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Jan 21, Colombo: Improved economic performance of the country has compelled the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to upgrade Sri Lanka to Middle Income Emerging Market Status from Poverty Reduction and Growth Trust (PRGT) eligible countries, the Central Bank said.

This upgrade given on January 11, would facilitate Sri Lanka to project itself strongly in international financial and capital markets, the Central Bank said today in a statement.

The IMF has taken into account the country's strong economic growth during the past 5 years in its decision to promote Sri Lanka's status.

A country graduates from PRGT only if it, has enjoyed income per capita well above the International Development Association (IDA) threshold for a number of years, has the capacity for durable and substantial access to international financial markets, and does not face serious short-term vulnerabilities.

Sri Lanka's per capita Gross Domestic Product (GDP) has risen to USD 2,014 by 2008, well above the prevailing IDA threshold.

Its per capita Gross National Income (GNI) has not declined for the last 5 years and it has withstood the rising oil prices and the subsequent global economic crisis despite a massive military offensive that lasted over two years to end a three decades old conflcit.

The IMF Stand-by Arrangement facility approved in July 2009 has further shielded the country from the impact of the global crisis.

The country's ability to access international capital markets in the past years and its ability to meet the market access criterion were evident by the oversubscription of the recently issued five-year sovereign bond.

Sam,

This Gonseka is mad.

He took all the credit of Prasana Silva and Shanvendra Silva's hard work in the field while he sat around in ACed rooms and moved around in top the line Mercedes Benzes.

Worse, he is furious that they not only out performed him but refuse to suck up to him.

That is why we should save the rape case till after the 26th. We need something to hold him. Day after the elections we should bring her out.

I know Moshe says it should be done now, but i believe after the election is better because A) Gonseka camp will call it "defamation" and try and squeeze sympathy votes and B) If Gonseka/JVP/UNP resorts to violence post election we can say it is his "response" to the rape case and attempt to cover it up. HiCorp corruption and rape case will be enough to keep him in Sri Lanka. Added bonus would be to toss in Lasantha monkeys death. Multiple birds with one stone (and you can bet all the free media moneys, other members of Lasantha's monkey clique and the West will howl AGAINST it because then they will loose a tool to beret SL with. True to form of Lasantha's sub-species they actually capitalised on his death with the bogus post-death editorial).

Gonseka cannot be allowed to leave Sri Lanka. The sake of the nation and importantly our heroes who sacrificed so much for the country (to have Gonseka throw it all away for his pot bellied ego) is in the balance. He will want to make Sri Lanka burn for simply rejecting him at the election, let alone everything else.

I also don't like the idea. Unfortunately, Fonseka with bogus war crime allegations against Shavendra, made it a need for them to appear in TV at least. Just on the same day Fonseka made such allegations, Shavendra gave a very emotional speech at the Insurance Corporation. In that speech, he expressed his disappointment about Fonseka's bogus allegations. Bottom line is that, monkeys together with scum have not stopped bringing down what our nation achieved on May 19th. Scum are mostly jealous and monkeys want revenge.

President leads in opinion poll
by Lasitha Duminda

A survey conducted by Kelaniya undergrads, on the outcome of the forthcoming Presidential election, predicts that President Mahinda Rajapaksa will receive 60 per cent of the votes polled and Opposition presidential candidate Gen (Rtd) Sarath Fonseka would poll only 38 per cent.

Sixty percent of those interviewed had said Mahinda Rajapaksa was the best candidate to develop the country with Gen. Fonseka scoring 38 per cent.

A spokesman for the survey team said that the results of previous surveys conducted by the university had been accurate.

Second,

However, my recent experience tells me that the myth has been smashed for the average person of the diaspora with only the die-hards clinging to it and the idea of a separate state.

Regardless of how the GoSL got to victory there is little doubt that the decimation of the LTTE leadership has opened the eyes of many mid-level supporters outside of Sri Lanka in addition to allowing folks who otherwise would say nothing express themselves.

My fear is that MR (who I think will win btw... say 56%) fails to take the needed action to further dampen separatist sentiment.

How does one suggest to dampen sentiments of separatism?

(1) Give Elam (No more cries)

(2) Give 1/2 Elam(This will lead to (1)

(3) Promote, nurture in all possible ways that

we are one Nation and One country.

Each and every inch of the Land is the homeland of Sri Lankans

There is no Sinhala, Muslim, Tamil homeland
Any perosn regardless language, creed and race can live in any part of the country with equal rights.

(1) and (2) are the same. (2) is the sneaky form of (1) and the stepping stone of (2).

We go fo (3).

Ranil wickramasinghe in the recent interview assures that

He and his good buddy SF are faithful servants Intenational Thuggism and LTTE and assures that SF, unlike how acted when he was under the command of MR, will act now according SF's own views.

This is an ssurance that they both are aginast the war victory and decimation of LTTE.

This interview should be played repeatedly giving a commentary like this.

SU,

UNP.lk poll has gone missing after it showed 73 % landslide victory for Mahinda. May be they pulled the plug to save themselves from the embarrassment a few days early.

Yes Sam: I notice that. It could not be the usual convention that opinions polls are not published when it is very close to the election.

why SF is passionately kissing the LTTE mouthpiece now???

read my article in lankaweb.

What I thought about Ranil is wrong all along.

His motive is not to keep the leadership of his party. It is to destoy Sri Lanka and serve Internaional thuggism and the LTTE.

Otherwise how can he so apoogetic for SF's percieved role in Victory against the LTTE.

How can he think giving credit to him for Karuna-LTTE split is blame.

Pathetic! Pathetc!

?????????

I hope so!!!!!

Moshe Dyan said...

no-ltte,

they MUST work collectively to defend themselves and SL again.

SF made this military thing a political affair and hence it has to be countered PREFERABLY MILITARILY by destroying gonseka.

in the absence of that move, it has to be handled by other means as educating the public.

their speeches are not dirty political speeches as SF gave while he was the CDS in washington.

there is good defence contnt in SS's and PS's speeches.

So you are saying the military should feel free to report whatever they saw or know?

Would that include saying they heard that there was a shoot/no prisoner order from MR's mouth?

While you chew on that let me ask why there does not appear to be a single member of the military here at a so-called "defence" forum.

A little odd no?

--------------------------------
What made you think their aren't any defence personal here. Who do you think break out the death of VP even prior to it coming through the Media.

About the military,
Military is not there to tell the truth. Military is their to make sure that the security of the country is safeguarded and to make sure that it remains safe from Terrorist, and Terrorist sympathisers like you.

If military says the truth, the first army that land in Hague War Crimes Tribunal is the U.S. Army. So why don't you chew on that with your daily dose of Punnaku.

It was interesting that both unscietific polls lankacweb and UNP opinion polls were giving the same kind of margins up to the point of removal of UNP poll.

May I know what "actions" they are?

A combination of actions and non-actions... starting with a massive, and I mean massive, infrastructure undertaking in the North.

Non-action as in no determined resettlement in the North UNTIL the reconstruction money is flowing and the migration North can assume a more natural, economics driven nature.

Action against corruption at the local and National level.

Non-action in terms of press freedoms... let the people of the North find new voices and let them be heard.

Basic good governance is plenty to offer for the next few years. Constitutional issues can be left for later if everyone is happily feeding their kids and heading out to work each day.

Oh... and MR should get as many Tamils as possible into the Armed Forces and get a good number of those folks into the Vanni.

For starters.

Nobody can fault him if he does those few things as a foundation for a better relationship with the North and East.

Compared to “Roti” Fonseka it is pretty obvious that Prabhakaran was an exemplary model in conducting his affairs with women. Though Prabhakaran forbade his make cadres to have intimate relations with female cadres he had the decency to marry one of his women cadres without exploiting her for his pleasure on the side. The experiences narrated by the Army officers lead to the inescapable conclusion that what “Roti” Fonseka has done with his woman soldiers is immoral, unacceptable and degrading for an officer of his rank.

How many times did I say that RW will save MR's day?

This time there was not much of a need, and MR was above in all polls, yet old savior spelled his praises at "Mr Prabha" and pussycats, right on time.

First time I saw SF clan fluctuating. Not only those former MR supporter converted SF lot, but also the original UNP and notably JVP.

RW is the man to respect. He desreves his spot as Opposition leader for ever. He's like a popularity magnet, but wrong pole.

When one sees the intensity of womanising of SF including telephone womanising during the time of war, it is no surprise that SF has to get information from journalists.

While he was womanising and fighting with other army commanders and officers who ran the war?

Amazing! Amazing!

it seems like that SF has time only to involve in Muhamale debacles.

Everyone agrees. Wait and see. Do not take Uthuru Wasanthaya for a joke.

[[Non-action as in no determined resettlement in the North UNTIL the reconstruction money is flowing and the migration North can assume a more natural, economics driven nature]]

Multi ethnic resettlement is always economy oriented well organized and natural. Where you have opportunity public is allowed to go. We hope to see major irrigation projects to make way for ppl.

We're hoping for this. Wait and see.

[[Action against corruption at the local and National level]]

Not a necessity. Everyone has toi accept teh ground realities in SL.

[[Non-action in terms of press freedoms... let the people of the North find new voices and let them be heard.]]

As long as there are strong laws against eelamists and sectarian media, this is no issue.

Future Pissanayagams shud see clear lines of lawr before they enter their prison cells.

[[Basic good governance is plenty to offer for the next few years. Constitutional issues can be left for later if everyone is happily feeding their kids and heading out to work each day.]]

My hint is taht MR will address some constitutional issues in latter part of his next tenure.

[[Oh... and MR should get as many Tamils as possible into the Armed Forces and get a good number of those folks into the Vanni.]]

A program was already on.

[[Nobody can fault him if he does those few things as a foundation for a better relationship with the North and East.]]

What more tahn development. City building, agrarian projects and road/bridge etc development.

Theory is, we do our best to uplift your life as long as you do your best to blend with us. Sectarianism, will only bring destruction, and punishment.

A region as spoiled as North needs this kinda clear lines. A fool hardy freedom is always a hatching ground for terrorists.

H. L. D. Mahindapala
The major plank of the Wickremesinghe-Hakeem-Mangala-Mano-Sampanthan-Soma-HANSA was to project “Roti” Fonseka – remember how he forcibly thrust a roti down the throat of his cook because it was misshapen? – as the man to combat corruption and restore peace and reconciliation. But the mounting scandals, exposing his character and his career, have damaged the image of the opposition’s Common Candidate beyond repair, questioning his capacity to deliver his promise of a corruption-free regime. In the latest expose aired on national TV “Roti” Fonseka comes out not only as a corrupt officer handing over deals to... -Full Story- (LankaWeb - 22/01/10)

URGENT! URGENT!! URGENT!!!

Dear Patriots,

I read in the Asia Tribune which says...

"There is a covert move by the Western Powers to force an annulment of the Presidential election scheduled for 26 January.

Already the Western countries with their local agent in Sri Lanka are moving ahead to force the Commissioner of Elections Dayananda Dissanayake to announce the annulment of the Presidential election"

The GOSL should keep the Army on alert and publish a couple of "HOT LINES" for any one to call in the event of a violent activity by anyone... The army can reach the place immediately by helicopters and catch the bastards...

Time is running out and this action is to be taken similar to the LieTTE Ealam war # 4...

CAN ANYONE OF OUR MEMBERS WHO HAS DIRECT COMMUNICATION WITH GOTA OR SOMEONE SEND THIS MESSAGE TO THEM PLEASE....

This is the need of the hour otherwise the obviously loosers UNP and JVP traitors will see that the Election will not go ahead..

Missy, maybe you R the one who haven't got the message yet. VP is dead. All the LTTE cadres and your bullshit hype about a all mighty LTTE heroes are gone after being ass fuck** in Nanthikadal lagoon.

Therefore what is the value of Military men hanging out here. They most probably would be reading the blog with interest until such time they need to appear. There will be no LTTE for another thousand years, what we broke at PKT is myth of Terrorism.

Hirantha,
First where is the link.
Second, this is not news. This is very much expected and GSL will do what is necessary to counter this kind of shit. Remember, with all the Western BS, they could not take Ahmadhinajan out from Iran. Therefore there is not a slightest chance that will happen in SL. GSL is already aware of this stuff.
