WE SALUTE THEE, MOTHER

Mother Lanka we salute Thee!

Plenteous in prosperity, Thou,
Beauteous in grace and love,
Laden with grain and luscious fruit,
And fragrant flowers of radiant hue,
Giver of life and all good things,
Our land of joy and victory,
Receive our grateful praise sublime,
Lanka! we worship Thee!

Thou gavest us Knowledge and Truth,
Thou art our strength and inward faith,
Our light divine and sentient being,
Breath of life and liberation.
Grant us, bondage free, inspiration.
Inspire us for ever!

In wisdom and strength renewed,
Ill-will, hatred, strife all ended,
In love enfolded, a mighty nation
Marching onward, all as one,
Lead us, Mother, to fullest freedom!

Two terms to go in public vocabulary - media

Re-colonization - yali-janapadhakaranaya

Private-colonization - pudgalika janpadhakaranaya

How long we have to wait..?

Do you expect to provide productive and quality blog space? Whats your view on quality of earlier thread? Can you please consider perhaps creating a sepreate blog for mulitpolar related comments?

Ninja,

I agree with you. I am seriously considering introducing a minimal level of moderation to exclude multipolar and all of his avatars.

Our purpose here is to discuss serious matters, with some levity, geared towards assisting Sri Lanka, and hopefully the decision makers in Sri Lanka. I don't think they would want to read the kind of mudslinging that multipolar introduces into this blog. He has his own blog in Pakisland where he can do that to his heart's content.

Dear Friends,

After my repeated warnings to multipolar and his avatars to behave were ignored, and many complaints were received from other bloggers, I have finally taken the initiative to preserve the quality of this blog.

I deleted his latest comment, and will hereafter delete all of his comments.

If other bloggers object to what I have done, please express your views privately by emailing me at LankaPatriot@gmail.com . Thanks.

I collapse all multi-polar comments, therefore, I don't feel it that much. However, The multipolar will never grow up or get cured. You did the right thing for other bloggers who don't use the filters.

>Sri Lanka Looks to the Future

Our people are free of threats, fear and terrorism. The government will work hard for all of them.

By MAHINDA RAJAPAKSA
The Wall Street Journal
January 03, 2010

January 26 was an historic day for Sri Lanka. It was the first presidential election for more than 25 years that was unaffected by the terrorism and intimidation of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, otherwise known as the Tamil Tigers. The overwhelming majority of Sri Lankans who exercised their democratic right last Tuesday voted for an end to division, an end to terrorism and for a new beginning of peace and prosperity. I am proud that the election was well fought, but peaceful on voting day. All who wished to participate, could.

But this victory is merely the start for Sri Lanka. After removing terrorism from our country, I sought a full mandate from my people. Now I shall seek to work to build our nation for all of them; to make the nation stronger and more able to succeed in today's globalized world.

I know as well as anyone that our future success relies on a lasting peace. The removal of terrorism was an important milestone in this process, but the nation needs to be bound by a common purpose. That purpose will be built around a full reconciliation program. My new government will address the genuine grievances of all communities and bolster the enforcement of equal rights for all. We will emphasize better police training to meet the new conditions of peace, and boost representation from all groups in Sri Lankan society.

More importantly, the lasting peace will unlock the true potential of Sri Lanka and provide a range of opportunities for all of our people. Already the International Monetary Fund has upgraded Sri Lanka to a "middle-income emerging market," and our economy is now the second fastest growing in Asia. With our educated workforce and our strategic trading position, I intend to make good on predictions that Sri Lanka can become South Asia's Singapore—or better.

We will work hard to ensure that this economic growth benefits all our people through improvements in job opportunities, skills training and education. No one will be left out. No one will be left behind.

For citizens residing in the north and east, we will continue to rebuild local infrastructure and essential facilities, so these areas can grow in tandem with the rest of the country. For people that were displaced by the conflict, we will realize their expectations of new livelihoods in peacetime. The people of these regions, whose lives were filled with fear and despair, will now have hope and opportunity.

The evidence of peace and prosperity will be there for all to see. My hope is that the world will come and see this change for themselves. We ask tourists to come. Our island is full of unparalleled beauty. The hospitality of my fellow countrymen has been described in the superlative throughout history.

We ask investors to see the huge opportunities and natural resources available to them, to experience the proud work ethic of Sri Lankans and make use of the enormous talent of our graduates and adaptability of our skilled workers.

Sri Lanka Looks to the Future

....continued....

We are sure that if the world's people come to see the real Sri Lanka, they will support our country. That, in turn, will benefit us all through more trade and employment, jobs and opportunities.

I know that there are some people and policy makers abroad who have criticized what we did to bring an end to violence and terrorism. They said our measures threatened the people and undermined democracy. This election has shown that the reality is very different. The people of Sri Lanka, democratically and very clearly, have shown that they are free of threats, fear and terrorism, and that they want to embrace the future that could only be achieved through the decisive measures taken last year.

I call on the international community to support us as we build a peaceful and successful Sri Lanka, united in our resolve to achieve the progress denied for decades. My government will work hard for all its people. Our economy will grow and the highest standards of rights will be upheld. I can say with confidence that Sri Lanka is ready for the new decade.

Mr. Rajapaksa is president of Sri Lanka.

so now i too agree that this blogger is USELESS and disruptive for productive and intelligent discussions.

I am not against multipolar or his freedom of expression. However we like to have a meaningfull and good quality discussion in this blog on issues related to SL - defence, economic or political wise. Those who are interested in issues such as 'who is multipolar?', 'is this correct multipolar?', is this a fake multipolar?', 'is SK a parrot?', 'is Ananda-USA a patriot?', 'proof of i am not multipolar', etc etc better use his own pakis blog. But it seems no one likes it so thas why I suggested admins to create another blog for multipolar related issues (being fair for multipolar and interested parties) so that any one can discuss such issues there.

Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment credited with P’karan’s killing

Over eight months after the killing of LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran, the Sri Lanka Army has officially credited the Vijayabahu Infantry regiment (VIR) with the killing of the terrorist leader on the banks of the Nanthikadal lagoon in the Puthukudirippu area.

Although the Army had discussed the killing of Prabhakaran at various forums, no particular fighting formation received the recognition of finishing off Prabhakaran and several dozens of his bodyguards until Army Chief, Lt. General Jagath Jayasuriya, recently announced the heroic feat. For the fourth battalion of the VIR (4 VIR) which had been at the forefront of many battles, including all major offensives carried out by the government, the announcement could not have come at a better time as the country celebrates the 62nd anniversary of independence on February 4.

Some alleged that Prabhakaran was taken alive and tortured before being shot. Some went to the extent of claiming the LTTE leader was brought to Panagoda cantonment and taken back to Nanthikadal and executed.

Of the five infantry formations, namely the Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI), Sinha Regiment, Gemunu Watch, Gajaba Regiment and VIR, formed after the Indo-Lanka Accord is the youngest infantry regiment in the over 200,000-member SLA.

The VIR troops involved in the final battle with Prabhakaran had been with the 53 Division, one of the frontline fighting formations assigned to carry out the final operation by the then Army Chief, General Sarath Fonseka. The army cornered the LTTE following a three-year offensive involving several fighting formations, the largest single ground offensive conducted in the Vanni East region in the entire Eelam war.

The 53 Division commanded by Major General Kamal Gunaratne fought its way down from Muhamalai and played a critical role in the final battle last May.

Lt. General Jayasuriya on January 23 visited the VIR Regimental Headquarters at Boyagane, Kurunegala where he had paid a glowing tribute to the officers and men responsible for killing the LTTE leader. The VIR had trapped a small group of LTTE cadres, including Prabhakaran and his wife as they tried to fight their way through troops conducting mopping up operations in the Mullaithivu theatre.

Army headquarters said that the Army Chief had met all officers and men involved in the final confrontation with Prabhakaran during his visit to Boyagane.

Brigadier R. V. Samarathunge, Colonel of the Regiment received the Army Chief on arrival at Boyagane.

Jayasuriya declared open the newly constructed VIR Administrative building complex, a project which was largely supported by VIR soldiers themselves. It houses all offices of the unit and other logistic needs. During the visit, Jayasuriya had the opportunity to meet with hundreds of men, who had been involved in the Vanni offensive.

Addressing the gathering, the Army Chief hailed them as contemporary heroes who had brought fame to the motherland, their Regiment, the Army and to their families.

The Army established the 1st Battalion of the VIR on September 26 in 1988 to augment the infantry. Inaugurated by veteran commander Vijaya Wimalaratne, the VIR gradually increased its strength with five battalions joining the formation by 1990. Today VIR comprises 26 battalions.

The Army Chief remembered the officers and men of the VIR who sacrificed their lives for the country, the disabled, the wounded and the missing in action.

Story of the Lion Flag

by Walter Wijenayake

island.lk

It has mentioned in our chronicles, the Mahavamsa and the Chulawamsa, that the flag with the symbol of the lion was invariably used by the monarchy from the reign of King Vijaya, who was the first and foremost Sinhala king of this small, beautiful island. This nation's flag was thus used up to the fall of the Kandyan kingdom, during the reign of King Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe, on March 02, 1815.

King Dutugemunu when marching to war with foreign invaders, used the heraldic lion carrying a sword in the right paw with two additional symbols of sun and the moon. When he was at war, he planted this particular flag in the battlefield, as King Vijaya did when he landed at Tammanna. He planted the flag he was carrying with the lion symbol, on the soil of Sri Lanka.

The king of Kotte, Parakrama Bahu IV, is also said to have used the same flag. The paintings on the rock temple at Dambulla show the victorious King Dutugemunu proudly carrying his royal banner depicting the lion symbol, after he freed his people and the land from the enemies.

Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe, the last King of Kandy, had four principal flags. Out of these, three flags depicted the lion, the fourth flag represented a drum, knife, axe, bow and an arrow. Two lion flags of the king were captured by Captain Pollock near Hanwella, on September 13, 1803, when king Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe abandoned his flag and retreated to the Kandyan hills.

These flags were taken to Whitehall Church in London and later deposited at the Chelsea War Hospital. When the British Governor, Robert Brownrigg, led a war against the king of Kandy in 1815, king Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe removed his royal flag, the throne footstool and the royal seal to safety. However, they were recovered on February 25, 1815 by the British.

When E. W. Perera and D. R. Wijewardena studied in England in 1908 they interested themselves in obtaining a coloured photograph of this flag and included it in a book on 'Sinhalese banners and standards' complied by E. W. Perera. It was then preserved for posterity.

However, after their studies in London they brought a duplicate of the Lion Flag to the country. Further it was exhibited for the people to make them aware of the importance of a national flag in an era when Sri Lanka was a British colony, to promote a nationalist fervour among the masses.

The flag was a symbol of our nationality. Southwood and Company were commissioned to reproduce an exact copy of the flag in colour, and as dawn broke on March 02, 1815, the journal 'Dinamina' hit the streets with a front cover exhibiting the coloured Lion Flag.

Daya Jayathilake Interview Ending
Island-2010-02-04

Q. To what extent do you think the Tamil diaspora and their money is behind these results?

A. I think the Tamil diaspora is unhappy today because they thought there would be change. They thought the Sinhalese people would be foolish enough to ignore the presence of the TNA on general Fonseka’s platform. So the diaspora is a very disappointed lot today. The Sri Lankan voter has delivered the electoral equivalent of a Nandikadal on the Tamil diaspora and the Tamil tiger political project. However there would be some people there who would derive some comfort from the ethno-electoral schism that has emerged in the voting pattern.

.......contd.

J. R. Jayawardene (later President), in 1945 made a statement in Parliament about the importance and necessity of hoisting our national flag at state functions. Prime Minister D. S. Senanayake, S. W. R. D. Bandaranaike and J. R. Jayawardena, were leading politicians attempting to revive the flag issue. On July 16, 1948, MP for Batticaloa, A. Sinnalebbe, rose in Parliament and explained the reason the Lion Flag should be accepted as the national flag. A. E. Goonesinghe seconded the proposal, but the proposition ran into trouble with MP for Kankasanturai S. J. V. Chellvanayagam and MP for Vadukodai K. Canagaratnam protesting and awaiting for it to be revised.

Unperturbed by the turbulence caused by this flag issue in Parliament, Prime Minister D. S. Senanayake spoke with much emphasis, explaining that the Lion Flag was not only a Sinhalese flag - but also the royal flag of our last king of Kandy, who was a Nayakkar king, in whose era Tamil, Sinhalese and Muslims lived as one race in Kandy, where unlike in the other parts of Sri Lanka, independence was lost last of all. He therefore called for the acceptance of the flag.

On January 27, 1948 a committee was appointed to review and advise the Prime Minister on the issue of the national flag. Those invited to serve on the committee were S. W. R. D. Bandaranaike, John Lionel Kotelawela, J. R. Jayawardena, T. B. Jayah, Lalitha Rajapaksa, G. G. Ponnambalam and Senator S. Nadesan.

With the dawn of our independence on February 04, 1948, Prime Minister D. S. Senanayake, Leader of the House S. W. R. D. Bandaranaike and Finance Minister J. R. Jayawardena, were insistent that the national flag be hoisted. They were aware of protests and attempts of sabotage and to avoid these problems they issued a stern warning, prohibiting any other communal flag being hoisted. If any person felt it improper to hoist the national flag they were permitted to raise the Union Jack. All state buildings flew both the national flag with the Union jack alongside each other. However, it is sad to state that in the North and East the national flag was ignored. That was how our communal politicians played their role, beginning a new era.

The National Flag Committee met in 1948, 1949 and 1950, eleven times with S. W. R. D. Bandaranaike spearheading it, and finally decided to hand over the decision on February 1950. Everybody, except the Minister for the North B. Nadesan, approved and signed the agreement.

In 1951 this committee report was forwarded to Parliament for debate, where S. W. R. D. Bandaranaike and J. R. Jayawardena withstood the opposition barrage bravely.

This debate illustrated the oratorical and debating powers of S. W. R. D. Bandaranaike, when he was pitted against opposition MP Sunderalingam. In the latter hours of the night of March 02, 1951, the committee report was passed by 51 votes for and 21 against. Eight abstained. From February 1952 onwards the Union Jack no longer dominated our flagstaff.

The flag represented the lion in yellow, holding a sword in its right paw, against a red background, with a yellow border right round and four stylized Bo-leaves emanating from its four corners. On the left side of the flag appears two vertical stripes - green and saffron. It is interesting to note that no explanation was given in the report to describe the colours and the symbol depicted in the flag. The meaning of the two stripes in the flag is only gathered from the dissent note of S. Nadesan, which implies that the green stripe represents the Muslims and saffron the Tamils.

contd.......

Moshe Dyan said...

.....contd.

The national flag was re-examined in 1971-1972 and on May 22, 1972, the flag for the first Republic of Sri Lanka had no change except that the Bo-leaves at the four corners of the national flag stood out more prominently than in the national flag designed in 1951.

It is important to note that for the first time in this country, under the second Republican Constitution of 1978, the national flag was incorporated in the constitution as article six, in the second schedule.

However, the Lion Flag of the Sinhalese kings of Sri Lanka, with few modifications down the ages, has become the national flag of this country.

Our national flag is a part of the constitution of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, promulgated on September 07, 1978. It should be displayed -

(a) On days of national importance, such as the National Day and on such other days as are prescribed by the government.

(b) At all state functions. Display out of doors.

(c) Whenever the national flag is flown, it should occupy the position of honour and be distinctly placed.

(d) On the occasion of a visit of a foreign Head of State/Government when his/her national flag is displayed, the Sri Lankan national flag also should be displayed.

(e) The national flag should always be hoisted slowly and ceremoniously.

(f) The national flag should be flown with the two vertical stripes next to the flag-pole.

(g) It should be given pride of place. No other flag should be placed over it. If there are flags of other nations, they should be flown at the same level and to the left of the national flag of Sri Lanka, with all the flag masts being of the same height. Flags should be of approximately equal size but generally not larger than the national flag. International usage forbids the display of the flag of one nation above that of another nation in time of peace.

(h) The flag may be flown on buildings - at night also, but only on very special occasions. On all such occasions, the flag should be always flood-lit while it remains hoisted.

(i) Religious flags should be splayed at the same level.

(j) When a number of flags of localities, of pennants of societies, schools and club flags etc., are grouped and displayed from staffs with the national flag, the national flag should be at the centre and at the highest point in the group.

(k) When the flags of provinces, pennants of schools, etc., are flown on the same halyard with the national flag, the latter should be at the peak.

(l) When flags are flown from adjacent staffs, the national flag should be hoisted first and lowered last.

(m) When the national flag is displayed from a staff projecting from a window sill, balcony or front of a building, the flag should be placed at the peak of the staff, unless the flag is at half-mast. The staff should be at an angle of 45 degrees and not horizontal.

(n) When the national flag is displayed over the middle of a street, it should be flown horizontally along its length with the lion upright.

(o) On days of national mourning, the national flag should be flown at half mast, should be first hoisted to the peak for an instant, then lowered to the half-mast position. But before lowering the national flag for the day, it should be raised again to the peak.

(p) When the national flag is flown, it should occupy the same position on all days, including Sundays and holidays, from sun-rise to sun-set, irrespective of weather conditions.

(q) When the national flag is displayed on a speaker's platform, it shall be flown on a staff on the speaker's right as he faces the audience or flat against the wall above and behind the speaker.

I appreciate your comment on creating a blog solely to discuss multipolar issues.

I don't want to invest my time in doing that at all .. he is not important to any serious discussion of Sri Lankian issues. If he runs for President of SL, then we can give him such attention, irrespective of his mental health, but I don't think that is going to happen anytime soon.

Besides, he already has such a blog called Pakisland which is devoted solely to pursuing his vendettas and injustices. We wish him well in resolving those issues there while we continue in peace without mudslinging and disruptions at this blog.

I tried very hard not to exclude him, but ultimately, as one of the blog admins, I have to protect what all of us are trying to do here: help Sri Lanka.

he ended the chol(er)a rule in JUST 77 years.

even within 77 years tamil madu invaders numbered more than 250,000!!!

their capital was some jananathanpuram where more than 250,000 tamil madu fellows lived. they were ALL GENOCIDED.

if not, SL would have become part of tamil madu in another 100 years from then.

MR is of the same category.

in another 200 years time,
1. dutugemunu
2. vijayanahu
3. parakramabahu
4. rajapaksha-babu (lol!!)

will be put together as saviors of SL.

but i don't think SL was lucky. SL was UNLUCKY.

there was no king to stand up to kalinga magha IN TIME. this bastard's impact was monumental.

we have to identify the ROOT CAUSES of,

1. dutugemunu
2. vijayanahu
3. parakramabahu
4. rajapaksha-babu (lol!!)

and advance that quality/characterristic/property that gave birth to such heroes.

we have to use PROFITABLE VIOLENCE in peacetime to deter illegal tamil madu migration to SL which is still happening.

I believe that MR and our forces stand equal or better among Dutugemunu and Vijayabahu generations. It is rhather unfortunate that the man who could be considered Nandimithra of Budal lost his status through greed derived treacherous acts. Anyway, it is all over now.

As I see, MR has two main challenges ahead. That is to bring prosperity and establish a stable governing system. He need to groom next generation of patriotic leaders from his current lieutenants while cultivating patriotism and independence in newer generations.

although our history has 2 gotabhayas as kings among the 118 kings, we don't have a gemunu II (???).

Moshe Dyan said...

sam and ninja,

i don't STILL consider SL lucky.

look at all the island nations near massive landmasses. they ALL are good warriors. otherwise they become part of the bid neighbour.

e.g. japan (no part of china)
indonesia (no part of malaysia)
britain (no part of france)
cuba (no part of USA)
ireland (no part of UK???)
taiwan (no part of china)
new zealand (no part of australia)

we have to ALWAYS look out for danger and retain our uniqueness.

STUPID devolution based on RACISM will destroy this as well.

e.g. the northern PC and the central PC will get close to tamil madu politically and culturally. the eastern PC will get closer to pakistan.

our uniqueness MUST be established ESPECIALLY in areas closer to tamil madu if we are to retain it. there is nothing called luck in this regard.

it was always hardwork and foresight.

i'm 100% sure king dutugemunu, vijayabahu, etc. emerged/won MOSTLY bcos of patriotism and skills than through luck. if we had a set of ass clowns like karunanidhi generation after generation, we would be stuck in shitt.

another big reason is the unavailability of a sizable army. those days the army was an ad hoc army. we should not do that mistake again.

something tells me LTTE will come back within another 25 years. we should be ready to kill, kill and kill once again.

The basic fact is this sickko was just coming here and SABOTAGING this blog with no useful posts, but often with only posts that aimed personal attacks against other bloggers (such as against yours truly here who would likewise dishout in kind, with all spices thrown in :-)) Besides, he was resorting to filthy attacks on Buddhism and Bhikkus (like how LTTE supporters do) and that in my view had to be stopped as otherwise this blog would have contributed to hate-mongering against Buddhist Sinhelas.

As I said before, this blog is visited by quite a many Sri Lankans and they have told me how they marvel at the level of Patriotism we exhibit here, and how we shape Sri Lankans' opinion in our own way, often against national traitors and how we try our best to assure these national traitors never receive political power (like we have done with RW and SF for example).

So, I welcome the removing of this type of parasite's posts.

Today's "opposition protest" against the PE results is supposed to have ended peacefully.

I hope this does not give a sense of complacency to our law enforcement authorities in Colombo as this might be the well-thought-out strategy - i.e. to start "peacefully" and that way attract more and more attendees, pro-LTTE foreign media, pro-LTTE NGOs, etc. etc. and then crank up the pitch all of a sudden in days to come where law enforcement will find it difficult to cope (given the lack of preparedness and complacency I noted earlier).

This is kind of what happened in Iran, so I hope our authorities are not going to be caught napping!

why i think LTTE will come back.

1. 90 million tamils around the world are HARDPRESSED to find a nation. malaysia, india, etc. are STILL more dangerous for them start a seperatists campaign.

2. western influence in the region is critically under threat. they can give up but then the problem is when china, russia, iran, etc. are capable of influencing their trade routes, they have NOTHING to retaliate.

west cannot depend on changing SL govts to get access to SL.

3. tamil diaspora economy is FAR bigger than the Sl economy.

SL economy - US$39BN
tamil diaspora economy - US$ 45BN

4. when the LTTE died, a GOD died for some 'moderate' tamils.

e.g. using the LTTE ordinary tamils gained many things. this is really unfortunate and reflects the stupidity of our politicians on 2 ounts.

they need another LTTE to raise their bargaining power.

5. it is VERY EASY to raise another LTTE. for a start they only need 2 things that are readily available.

5.1 a weak leader
5.2 claymore mines

using both these at the right time can achieve ANYTHING.

6. there is no way a political solution can create tamil elam. the RICH, powerful, well connected tamil diaspora wants tamil elam, nothing else.

Moshe Dyan said...

what if some idiots bring 2 claymore mines from tamil madu and set them off in a busy colombo street with a few days apart???

after the first one, some bugger would demand tamil elam.

after the second one too they will demand it.

by then the govt will be in shitt.

at the same time TULF, TNA, etc. will press the govt to give this and that. they will get it and LTTE would have run out of bombs by then for a year. ppl will think - oh fantastic! we gave them this and they stopped killing us. in future we should give them whatever they ask so that there wont be claymore blasts.

the biggest problem is we cannot retaliate. if we don't retaliate we are STUFFED. in order to retaliate, we have to escalte the conflict by DIRTY means. doing these things is VERY VERY difficult, especially when we are used to peace.

this is enough to kick start the diaspora funding and we have another terror empire.

really, they don't need a vezapillai. tamil diaspora can achieve more without a vezapillai.

i'm sure these MFs are thinking along these lines.

the solution - kill tit for tat. if they kill 5, kill 10 of them and keep the ball in their court to reduce/stop violence. if we can't do it when under attack, we are back to 2002.

if we don't want to have all these once again, recolonize the north and east so that tamil elamists are forced to give up on tamil elam as it cannot be achieved. that is the only way we can save our interests without violence.

i'm 100% sure king dutugemunu, vijayabahu, etc. emerged/won MOSTLY bcos of patriotism and skills than through luck. if we had a set of ass clowns like karunanidhi generation after generation, we would be stuck in shitt.

another big reason is the unavailability of a sizable army. those days the army was an ad hoc army. we should not do that mistake again.

This happens everyday in Northern California where I live.

As a result, law-abiding people get the protection they need from the government they elected and empowered to provide that service as its PRIMARY DUTY.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa's 62nd Independence Day message

The 62nd anniversary of independence we mark today has special significance being the first such celebration of our freedom since the defeat of terrorism in our country last year, and also as it takes place soon after our people have expressed their firm and resounding commitment to democracy.

The freedom from colonial rule that we gained 62 years ago is now more meaningful, because we have been liberated from the forces of separatist terror that marred our freedom for nearly half the period since independence, and also gravely threatened the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our country.

As much as we recall with gratitude the great contributions made by our patriots of the past in the struggle for independence, it is also fitting that we pay a tribute in full measure to all our heroic troops and their families for the sacrifices made in the battle against terrorism, as well as all sections of our people for the patriotism they showed in putting up with the hardships during this battle to restore freedom and democracy to our entire country. We are particularly grateful for the courage shown by the people as we were confronted with the armed might of the forces of terror from within, as well as forces from outside who sought to pressure us into conceding to the aims of those who used terror as a political weapon.

We are also grateful to all friendly nations, from East and West, those near and afar, who understood the true nature of the struggle we were engaged in, and extended to us all support to achieve our objective of true freedom for our country and people.

As we move into the new era of peace in our country, we are ready to face the challenges of the future. It is necessary that we give equal priority to the tasks of national reconciliation and the building of trust among all sections of our people, as well as to development that will take us to our rightful place in the community of nations. The fruits of peace and the aspects of development that were not neglected despite our major occupation with the battle against terror, are already seen in the many projects initiated and completed in the power and energy sectors and in infrastructure development.

As our forefathers did in the glorious days of our past, and the more recent leaders in the struggle for freedom showed us, we remain committed to a single, unitary Sri Lanka, where all our people, irrespective of differences of ethnicity, religion or political persuasion, can enjoy the full benefits of freedom, development, and equal rights in a democratic society.

The new and even stronger mandate you have given us, gives greater confidence to move ahead in building the New Sri Lanka, which we envisage as the hub of economic activity and a beacon of progress in our region; together with a full commitment to the Rights of Man which are integral to the heritage bestowed on us from the past.

On this historic and significant anniversary of freedom, let us re-dedicate our nation to the ideals of peace, tolerance, mutual trust and progress, in the democratic tradition our people have cherished and protected as the oldest democracy in Asia.

I wish you a Prosperous Future.

May our nation be blessed by the Noble Triple Gem.

Moshe,

There are many Sinhalese against recolonisation, they put forward flawed argument abouts “improving relations”, “tamil have been through enough”, “poor tamils” and “we should try an win them over”. None of these ridiculous ideas have worked because Tamils take advantage of “overtures of good will” to demand more and more by constantly saying “we’re not happy”. This kind of approach smacks of weakness to be exploited in their eyes.

There needs to be a proper mass information programme from the Government/other institutions (e.g. JHU and Universities) about the benefits of recolonisation. Heck called in the “Land appropriations act” or something and sell it as an attempt to help the poor.

Asithri,

Very correct about these so called protests.

Things to note:

Gonseka is spreading one lie after another (kalu-suddha and suddha masters have taught him well) first it was election violence, then rigging, then “I am the president”, then “computer fraud” now its back to rigging with fake ballots nonsense again (gonseka found 64 ballots- sure he did, they are probably his own ones he made earlier when he and Mangala planned on rigging and/or discrediting the election by planting them everywhere).

Mangala had like 30,000 fake ballots made or so I remember being discussed here.

Scary though is the possibility they may print fake ballots now then toss them in the bin and say “look rigging!”.

Government must be made aware of this possibility –unless already done.

Worse, as Ninja said, all they need is a “defection” from MR camp, out to get MR for whatever reasons, to say “election was rigged” like Gonseka told SundayLeader about “white flags”.

With regards to these protests, we need to be very careful that the Opposition/West/Gonseka knowing MR is popular know that people will not come to protests, so they will not get enough crowds for an “Iran” in Sri Lanka. Thus they may use other methods to draw in crowds, e.g. money, food etc.

Another possibility is to get other groups (working as proxies for them) to spread lies/rumours against MR over other issues (not just corruption, theft and the other bogus tails we saw during the PE) such as MR is going to sell out Buddhism, is destroying Buddhist artefacts for money, even say MR is working with the West to destroy the country, or MR is sending children for pornography, paedophilia with the West. Basically attack MR at his core to turn the people against him and join protests. Or ramp up stories of corruption to get people to the protest. Or tell people to attend for something completely unrelated to MR/politics/economy to build up the crowds then sell it with the Media (especially Western media) as “protests against MR”. We may see many false flag operations, including inducing of violence or attempts to provoke the police (like JVP goons attacking innocents, or shops, get the Police to beat them down) and sell it as Police “clamping down on dissent by killing innocent protestors” etc etc.

The three-wheeler and bus rumour mongers (as you and others warned us about during the PE) may also get busy at work to do this.

When “Iran” went down in Tehran lots of mobile phones, cameras and other junk was given free. We may see the same in SL.

...continued next post

Asithri,

Continued from above...

Government must again launch an information campaign warning people about such things. I mean let them take the free phones, food and money, BUT do not attend the rallies. Government should also limit the number of protests allowed otherwise they will have one every day and make it look like “ a build up against MR”

Government must not get complacent and think the West will respect it or treat it nice now just because MR won with a large margin. They will double their efforts to get rid of MR, and that is through discrediting the lection. Gonseka has already been busy at this.

Remember they accused us of a “blood bath” back in May. No “blood bath” happened, so they concocted the story themselves and beamed it the world over.

They accused us of “war crimes”. No “war crimes” happened nor did they have any proof. So they concocted the “proof” themselves with help from the LTTE (JDS/Channel 4 video) and beamed it the world over.

They accused the Government of “poor treatment of Tamil IDPs, because they are Tamils” and ensured this would happen by denying/blocking Government request to set up better facilities in the IDP camps such as semi- permanent housing, then howled against the Government about “squalid conditions” by over blowing small issues (e.g. monsoon flooding, which was unsurprisingly exaggerated and could have been prevented had they not blocked attempts to set up better facilities from the get go).

If Tamils start dying from mines they will howl again.

Of course the whole IDP thing was to free LTTE cadres (luckily we got most of them) to start an insurgency again (Western media were screaming with hope about “a new generation of Tigers” coming soon back in May/June 2009). Right now they are also demanding the LTTE cadres we have imprisoned be released using the their stale human rights weapon. Shows what thick skinned people they are considering the mass slaughters they are happily doing in Iraq & AfPak and how many people they have imprisoned from those countries and the rest of the world.

agree with you that we should educate the ppl.

the most important thing is to do it. give land to the landless, set up agri villages/fisheries villages, sugercane plantations, etc.

when ppl's economy is at stake, others will dare not complain about it.

encroachment into govt lands illegally in the south must be stopped. if anyone wants land and cannot afford it, they are most welcomed to settle down in cleared villages that will be built in vanni, etc.

but it should be CONNECTED colonization. connecting existing townships.

for a start non-tamil majority villages must be seperated from tamil villages. unfortunately this is how it is in the north east. we have to follow this pattern for a start.

easily colonizable districts should also be looked at.

e.g. trinco

with 20,000 votes the SL candidate could have beaten the TE candidate in trinco.

taking into account the voters turnout, we need, 21,000 * 100/70 = 30,000 voters

that means 30,000 * 1.5 = 45,000 persons

to be on the safe side, 60,000.

if we can settle 60,000 persons with houses, land and a livlihood in trinco, we can tilt the balance.

mahaweli river in trinco has not been used for anything much. this water can do wonders before it flows to the sea.

it must be done in such a way that poverty striken ppl in SL would be in high demand.

we can convert a totally useless set of ppl to VIPs.

changing the boundaries of anuradhapura and polonnaruwa districts also help cover up the mass colonization as long as possible.

Moshe,

You mentioned LTTE causalities figures and such and how as always they are lying and passing over their dead cadre numbers (30,000 between 2006-09) as “civilians”.

A way the Government can counter this is by getting one of our Universities (or two) to carry out a study (fudge it in our favour) into the number of Sinhala and Moor civilians killed. As well as the Number of Tamil civilians killed, number of Tamils in the country pre and post war + number who used the war to escape to the West.

Then the number of LTTE cadres killed in total, plus under a separate section how many killed in 2006-09.

Then list how civilians were killed due to the human shield (I hear it was actually around 5,000) + injured.

How this information should be released:

Must be done in a couple of years from now (say 2012).

First Army casualties, from war began till wars end, with the 06-09 done separately (this done by the Government/Military not the University study).

Then a few days later LTTE causalities, with the 06-09 numbers done separately.

Then number of Tamil civilians killed.

With the number killed + wounded in the human shield done separately.

Followed by
Number of Tamils in the country prior to war.
Number in the LTTE/separatist groups (joined, killed, in prison)
Number who migrated out of the North and East.
Number who migrated to the West.
Total number of Tamils in Sri Lanka now + what percentage of the population they form.

One or two days after that release the number of Sinhala+ Muslim civilian causalities, deaths and injuries since 1976s (these are far higher than Tamil ones).
Also mentioned the riots of 58 an 77 and the Sinhalese killed/cleansed in them.

All should be done in the course of a week.

The full study should be also offered in a “bite size” media version with the relevant data presented on projector at a conference and made available in tabulated form to be quoted/distributed.

This is important because these University numbers will then form the basis/source of future quotes when people come to “study” or dig information on the war further in the future (currently die-ass-pora and Western propaganda is used, a proper University study will have far more credibility and respect).

We then need our media, or media from a friendly country, around the same time to mention how the West/Blake worked with the LTTE/gave the green light to create a human shield to engineer a human catastrophe to create grounds to justify intervention to save the LTTE and perpetuate war in Sri Lanka under the guise of helping civilians, and because Sri Lanka did not bow down they have persecuted Sri Lanka since.

Also toss in Blake/Wests interaction with the die-ass-pora and the fact the die-ass-pora operates openly in the West funding the LTTE with full support from the West itself while we are lectured about HR. All designed to assist the LTTE as much as possible (i.e. stop us arresting their suicide bombers aka sponsoring terrorism and violence in SL).

Anonymous said...

At the same time (months/weeks before or after) if possible, we need media (from a friendly country again) to mention how the US/West has adopted the Israeli tactic (now do not get angry Moshe :)), it is better on the international scene for a nation like SL to be sort of against Israel than for it) of serious retribution against civilian population in Iraq and Afghan/Pak when their forces are attacked, i.e. for every 1 of their soldiers killed 10 civilians must be killed, under “extreme deterrence”. A good example is in Afghan in August 2009 during the election period there. 4 US soldiers were killed in the south, the next day 40 Afghan civilians were killed in Kandahar a Taleban/Pashtun dominated area, no explanations what so ever. Taleban are made up of Pashtun after all.

Also there are mass protests in Afghanistan against the Western occupation, but it is never reported. It is also why they only really control Kabul and some border regions to the East and North, as well as securing Helmand –control the Opium. Lots of money in that venture. The other areas are only “under coalition/Nato control” through mass bribing of local war loads allowing them to do as they please so long as do not to shoot at Western forces (which is why there are mass protests, even in the northern Uzbek populated areas, they were lied to about democracy).

There are large scale killings of civilians every day which goes unreported and colourfully passed off as “collateral damage” (while SL is persecuted for doing nothing other than not keeping the country at war/following super power diktats). Furthermore in Iraq, the Sunni/Shite mass killings were incited by false flag operation carried out by the West.

Apart from problems we already had we have now one more - the 'kalawedda'. Gonseka was a member of security council and hence can't be ignored.

1. If GSL let Gonseka leave SL => USA/west can easily use him against GSL.

2. If GSL ignore accusations public will think accusations are false.

3. If GSL put kalawedda in jail JVP sahodarayas can start street fighting.

Best option seems 'reconcile' and make his mouth closed but this seems near impossibility.

Next best option I think is initiate legal action and drag it a long time.

Yep. I always thought how lucky a person lived in Dutugamunu era.. Now I feel the same.. What MR did was no different - actually harder than to what Gamunu Parakum Wijayaba did.

/although our history has 2 gotabhayas as kings among the 118 kings, we don't have a gemunu II/

Original name was Gamunu (Gamini). Dutugamunu means bad-gamunu ; nicknamed (by mahawamsa?) as he was against his father initially, left palace, later fought against brother. Perhaps thats why later kings never chosen gamunu for name. Or may be they thought 'gamunu' is too good for them as he was the first to did what MR did months ago.

no mate.

tamil civilian casualties are far higher.

the reason is more groups killed them.

1. LTTE
2. SLDFs
3. TMVP
4. EPDP
5. IPKF

in 1980s-early 1990s we used violent retaliation methods. that killed scores of unarmed tamil elamists and other civilians.

e.g. for killing 153 muslims on 16 august 1991, we killed 296 just a few days later.

(153 * 2 = 306 - 10 escaped = 296)

i know some ppl don't agree with this. no offence to them. let them sleep in peace, i will kill WHOEVER IT IS and make innocent ppl sleep and get up safely. its best they are not aware.

We need good propaganda and honesty is not the best policy in that regard.

Many do not know about what happened in the 80s as you described, even the die-ass-pora.

I believe getting the universities to do a study fudged in our favour of course is important in the grander scheme of things.

It is one concrete way of fighting Tamilia propaganda as we will have empirical proof with us.

Counter propaganda should be done in the same method Tamilia uses, the media and repeating same old bs (something we are failing at), but also having something solid like a University study would boost the value of our propaganda.

Moshe:

I still stand by my comment that this article as a whole a whitewash of SF's crime.

It also include an element of separation of military and politics(and this is a must)but it more looks like humainsing SF than separating politics from military.

It looks like that the article is saying for a military officer to be a brute is the norm. Far from it.

DW has earlier been critical of SF in mild form during the war and we did not get the clue.

His reply indicated that he believed that a great disaster has been just averted.

This statment of aversion makes a hidden but serious criticism of SF.

What did he do to provide the voters information about impending disaster.

Silence for some time can be understood. One needs time to assess things.

I am a petty mortal. I changed my mind about SF jsut before he put out the resignation letter.

Since then SF never disappointed me in disappointing me since every prediction I made (to my self)came true. I started with why take a risk?
Soon it became more certain.

If I could come to see what was happening then people with close information could have done that before me with more certaintity.

When Mahen said that he would come out on 27th I expressed suspicion. He was to come out on 27th if SF had won. I knew that SF would not win. SF is a weakest candidate ever.

Why DW was silent? It is not because DW approves SF. It is becuase, I think, that he has some reason not to go against him directly that hard.

Maybe this is a valid reason or may be he has some association.

Because of this tension in his mind odue to two conflicting forces, his article came as a white wash. He failed to recognise the danger our Nation faced. The article seemed to be saying that it was that no one can be sure who is right or wrong in this fiasco. That is thinking that SF is sure danger for Nation is some kind of idiotic action. This is a great distortion of the situation. You know MOse I am a real critcque of MR. MR has faults.

Otherwise the opposition could not have used false rumours against MR. Eventhoug they were utterly false rumours MR was vulnarable to those attacke since he has not created that clean image. Rather he let suspicions hang around him. Otherwise he would have got 75% to 85% aginst SF even without having to campaign. In politics not only you should not sin but also you should not be succeptible to attack due to your own actions.

Then response to crticisms, he just agreed that a great disaster was averted.

The way to take the politics out of military cannot be done whitewashing and trivialising crimes of a military officer.

At the same time, now the Government should be cautious not to drag military into politics.

However, it is a known fact SF was doing poitics even while he was the commander(Tamilnadu politicians being jokers, this country belongs .. and he was meeting JVP and UNP leaders to discuss politics).

If the Government is not cautious of taking politics out of military another one can get the idea.

i agree with him on that.

a difficult compromise between the two is needed. time may be the compromise but once again "justice delayed is justice denied".

OTOH expect NO COMPROMISE from SF!!!

so the conclusion should be to go all out at SF but spare the lesser fellows.

I found you all at last, reading some of the comments on good old DW; happy independence day to all!

There was a lovely picture of MR smiling on Hindu (today). Hope we all can have a big-smile like that when it is time for the next presidential election. If MR plays his cards well, it is not going to be a problem.

I think the election itself was premature (he should have listened to some of his top advisers). Among other things, the election has also helped in polarizing our populace, and raising up new and unpleasant issues (SF factor, Nothern Votes, TNA factor ect.) that we need not have dealt with at all.

These are not issues that we have not needed to spend our time on, curbing conspiracies and divisions among ourselves, when there is so much to be done towards helping Sri Lanka rebuild.

I hope MR will not make a issue out of a non-issue after creating an issue due to a poor judgment (having early elections).

I also do hope the animosity between MR and SF will fade away with time.

Rover,

Welcome back mate. Yes, Presidnt Rajapakse has the best opportunity in his hands to bring our nation back to the prosperous days. The most daunting tasks he has are:

(1) Bringing economic prosperity.
(2) Maintaining and improving of a strong military.
(3) Establishing a stable governing system.
(4) Curing the racial divide altogether.
(5) Grooming of future patriotic leadership across party lines.

Rover said...

Thanks mate, Sam.

Yes, agree with those points of yours. Maintaining a strong and DISCIPLINED military will help discipline Sri Lanka in general. It would not be a bad idea to introduce mandatory military training for all our people (when the country is a little more stabilized and united). Among many other things, this will also help discipline our younger generations. Then we would not have to develop a HUGE STANDING ARMY, as everyone will be ready, in an emergency (like the Swiss model during the WW).

But in general, I am dissapointed with all our politicians. Only a very few of them are being exemplary (being examples from which the common people and our children can learn). We need to improve vastly on this front.

My Comment on The Economist's article How not to celebrate a victory

........

This is once again one of those totally biased articles that appears frequently in the Economist. I fondly ask, doesn't the Economist review its own articles for balance and objectivity before publishing? Who is the jaundiced author of this diatribe anyway?

Sarath Fonseka, from the beginning of his candidacy for the Presidency of Sri Lanka, acted like a thug, spewing invective and hurling threats, to intimidate the voters and the government. He employed Army deserters to do his bidding, and to form the core of his paramilitary group for the anticipated "putsch", knowing well that harboring deserters is a crime. That crime itself, apart from all other pending allegations against him, should land him in prison, give him sufficient time to ponder his own follies that led to his precipitous fall from grace in Sri Lanka.

It is his association with the appointed mouthpieces of his nation's enemy, the separatist terrorist LTTE (Tamil National Alliance,TNA), former terrorists who launched two bloody insurgencies (People's Liberation Front,JVP), and the man who blithely presided over the partitioning and delivery of Sri Lanka, bound hand-and-foot, to its enemies, and who fought tooth-and-nail the Eelam War IV that eliminated terrorism and reunified the Nation (Ranil Wickramasinghe, UNP), that turned the People of Sri Lanka against Sarath Fonseka's candidacy. The ordinary people of Sri Lanka, to their eternal credit, were not fooled.

Unwilling to accept the expressed will of the people, Fonseka planned to overturn and wrest control of the government in his thuggish way. Unfortunately for him, this Govt of Sri Lanka is composed of equally hard-nosed Patriots who fought and won a war against internal and external enemies, and was not at all intimidated by him. Nor will it be in the future by any enemy of the people; this democratically elected Govt will fight back to preserve and protect the will of the people. The resolve it showed in WAR, it will demonstrate in PEACE.

Displaying again that his unbounded ambition has overtaken his patriotic good sense, "Mr Fonseka .. has appealed for international help to uphold democracy in Sri Lanka" to sic upon the people of Sri Lanka the same motley band of foreign hypocrites, naysayers and NGOs who supported the Tamil terrorists and helped to extend this war for 30 long years, killing over 100,000 innocents. Mark my words .. This push for "Regime Change" WILL NOT WORK in Sri Lanka .. notwithstanding the vigorous wailing we hear from INCURABLY DISSAPOINTED, but handsomely bribed, lackeys in western media.

Resplendent Sri Lanka of Old shall survive to thrive as a democracy guided by its own good sense, and will achieve UNIMAGINABLE ECONOMIC GROWTH in the coming decade as the "New Wonder of Asia"!

Rajapaksa says Tamils should work with him

ExpressBuzz.com
February 04, 2010

KANDY (SRI LANKA): Sri Lanka's president called Thursday for minority ethnic Tamils to work with the government to settle their differences but said there would be no self-rule for them, as the country celebrated its first Independence Day since the end of a 25-year civil war.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa, who was re-elected last month by a wide margin, largely because of support from the country's Sinhalese majority, said Tamil leaders should not "misguide" people or harbor political ambitions based on ethnicity or region.

"Let's solve our problems ourselves through discussions," he said in the Tamil language.

Sri Lanka received independence in 1948 — emerging from more than four centuries of colonial rule by the Portuguese, Dutch and then British — and ethnic Tamils have since complained of systematic marginalization in governance, jobs and education.

Those grievances led to the birth of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, known as the Tamil Tigers, a rebel group that fought for decades for an independent state for Tamils in the north and east. The war, which ended in May with the defeat of the rebels, left some 80,000 to 100,000 people dead and many Tamil areas in ruins.

There have since been calls for the government to reconcile with Tamils by offering them a degree of self-rule in provinces where they constitute a majority, but Rajapaksa rejected that Thursday.

"Hereafter, we will not entertain narrow divisions based on race, religion, language and political ideology in terms of regions," he said. "There is no one called a minority in this country, all those who love the country are children of mother Lanka."

He said he intends to give some power to all villages in the country to enable people to look after their own affairs.

"Certainly everyone will get equal facilities. This is what you call equality, this is what you call equal rights," he said.

The main celebration for Sri Lanka's 62nd independence anniversary was held in central Kandy town, near the sacred Temple of the Tooth. The town was also the seat of the country's last kingdom before it fell to the British in 1815.

In contrast to previous years' celebrations, Thursday's military parades were low-key — without the display of heavy guns and artillery — and the general public was allowed to attend. In the past, attendance required a special invitation by the government.

I would like to emphasise that If anybody has made it a point not to support either candidate because of the faults of MR then they were not aware of the impending disaster from SF presidency or they were not sensitive to the impending disaster for personal or political gain.

This is no longer a conjecture. SF's behaviour, his friends the rumours that were floating on the election nigh was wnough proof.

Not voting MR had been a support for SF's polpottism by one vote.

The contest was not a contest between Sirima and Dudley.

If SF came to powere today we would have been in a blood pool of Pol pottist magnitude regardless the nature of the current coup accusations.

Even the current coup accusations has gained more credibility by seeing the vicious nature of the rumours floated on the election night. This kind of thng has never happened. I think the plan was to, if it was a close result either way to stage this coup.

If it were a landslide win for SF still SF would have crazed to see sea of blood.

Along with Sinhalese, Tamils and Muslims all would have suffered a great deal.

Chaps here is a new comment I left in Economist about the danger of Fonseka candidacy to Sri Lankan democracy.

Civilian control of the military is a doctrine in military and political science that places ultimate responsibility for a country's strategic decision-making in the hands of the civilian political leadership, rather than professional military officers. The renowned political scientist Samuel P. Huntington summarized the civilian control ideal as "the proper subordination of a competent, professional military to the ends of policy as determined by civilian authority" in his famous book 'The Soldier and the State'. Civilian control is often seen as a prerequisite feature of a stable, liberal democracy. Sri Lanka in all it's modern history has always had the country's strategic decision-making in the hands of the civilian political leadership.

General Fonseka tried to cross this dangerous line by appealing to officers loyal to him within the army to openly support him and having a ring of ex-army and army deserters around him. Sri Lankans are extremely lucky that the general populace saw the danger of this and rejected his candidacy in massive numbers. They were further blessed to have a government that moved quickly after the election to remove these undemocratic elements from the armed forces. Sri Lankan people have an extreme high regard their professional military as it consists of sons and daughters of ordinary villagers and it freed the country from the monstorous LTTE terrorists. Let's all hope candiddate Fonseka will disappear into obscurity and the proper subordination of a competent, professional military to the ends of policy as determined by civilian authority will continue forever in our beloved Lanka.

Cheers!

Talking about corruption in the West, look up MPs Expenses Scandal in Britain. A sophisticated and legalised robbery from the tax payer where MPs grab "allowances" on various issues, such as two homes (one in the constituencies and one in London to be near Parliament). They can claim expenses on the second home in London. However they would "flip" which home is their second one (i.e. the one in their constituencies) which they do not need to pay money for (mortgages) or pay maintenance bills, can then "do them up" (extensions, furniture etc) increasing the value of the property then sell the property at profit.
Worse things like moats; duck houses, chocolate biscuits, bath plugs, grapes and blue movies were charged onto the tax payer by various MPs under "allowances" including high levels members of the cabinet. Huge robbery with bills running into hundreds of thousands of pounds passed onto the tax payer all completely legal. Many of the clowns who bark at us in the name of Tamiz “liberation” and “genocide” have been amassing wealth through this system as well.
They have also been hiring their family members to work in their offices (Gordon Brown pays his brother £millions to run a "cleaning service" which he contracts out to some cheap firm, so does not actually do anything nor own a company but is paid huge sums).

The inquiry into how to undo this/fix this corruption of "MPs allowances" which followed after huge public out cry has been a white wash. MPs meant to pay back large amounts are only paying back a pittance while the "allowances" scheme is continuing.

It points to what Golden Eagle said that the economic pie being smaller means we "feel" it more.

Also in the US corruption happens through "lobbying" where large companies can "buy support" of congressman, similar to what the die-ass-pora also does. "Lobbying" happens in other Western countries as well.

A good slap in the face for all those who worship their masters as symbols of "perfection".

Jaffna electoral register deceptive: Polls Chief calls for fresh census

Number of voters much lower than the figure in electoral register

By Shamindra Ferdinando
Island.lk
February 05, 2010

Elections Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayake stresses the importance of carrying out a census in the Northern Province, as soon as possible, to establish the exact number of voters living there.

He says a survey will reflect the actual number of eligible voters, whereas the current electoral register is outdated.

According to him, the Election Secretariat was forced to use the 1988 electoral register due to a decision taken by Parliament, though the actual number of voters living in the Northern region had sharply decreased owing to the war.

Addressing the media at the Elections Secretariat on Wednesday (Feb 3), the veteran public servant said his officers and Chief Returning officers should not be held responsible for any discrepancy in the electoral register and the actual voters living in the region.

He said many people who had fled the country had been naturalised in many foreign countries, including India. He said that India had provided the necessary data of people living there to enable him to remove people living in India from the electoral register.

He said the actual number of voters in the Jaffna peninsula was very much lower than the figures mentioned in the electoral register.

He said Parliament should take a decision on this. A sizeable section of the Tamil-speaking population also lived in the South, particularly in the Western Province.

According to final results of the Jaffna District at the recently concluded presidential polls, only 185,132 had exercised their franchise, though the registered number of voters was 721,359. The Jaffna electoral district comprises, Kayts, Vaddukkodai, Kankesanthurai, Kopay, Uddupiddy, Point Pedro, Chavakachcheri, Nallur, Jaffna and Kilinochchi electorates.

During the first post-presidential election media briefing called by the government at the BMICH, UPFA General Secretary Minister Susil Premjayantha, too, discussed the need to conduct a census. Rejecting claims that voting in the Jaffna peninsula had been extremely low, an irate Premjayantha said that the outdated electoral register did not reflect the actual ground situation.

Government sources told The Island that even in the Vanni electorate, which comprises Mannar, Vavuniya and Mullaitivu, the electoral register did not reflect the actual situation.

Census and Statistics Director H. R. Gunasekera yesterday told The Island that they would conduct a countrywide census in mid-2011.

He said that his department had carried out the last countrywide census way back in 1981 before the outbreak of Eelam war.

Although the department had planned to conduct an islandwide census in 1991, the war had thwarted the plan, he said.

He said that they had gone ahead with a census in 2001, though it covered only 18 administrative districts, including Ampara.

"We covered only parts of remaining Northern and Eastern districts due to some areas being held by the LTTE at that time. But today, we are in a position to carry out a countrywide census thanks to the elimination of terrorism," he said adding that they were at the initial stages of planning.

/Jaffna electoral register deceptive: Polls Chief calls for fresh census/

Actually this is not an issue in PE but very unfair in GE. MP seats allocated district basis so Jaffna gets more than they should truly get. OTOH as some (2-3 lax) whose names in Jaffna list now live in Colombo or outside NE. So they can vote and they usually vote for TNA/UNP. So they get MP seats by votes in south and as bonus in Jaffna. Last time this extra was at least 15 TNA seats.

Yeah, I already broached this subject with a few people when I was in SL last, but to not much avail.

The viewpoint was "it doesn't matter what we do, these Tamil separatists votes driven west will not buy into what we do" ...something I really cannot disagree with after having seen first hand the power of "Tamil votes" in the west.

I have seen the crass, hideous hypocrisy from filthy white politicians in the west who have dismissed anything we had submitted as "likely GOSL propaganda" (of course without revealing on their part that Tamil separatist MF's had visited them earlier and had promised them "10,000 Tamil votes").

However, I will get this notion across once again to Prof. Wijesinha as I agree we cannot and must not give up.

May be it is taken out of Youtube now.

Thanks anyway....but either way, bro, please post one of these herein.

Government needs to delay the GE and or do the census after declaring the GE. It should be a "quick" census.

It should nicely expose this additional piece of deceit.

Thanks Asithri. Hope you/we get a postive response :))

And yeah i know what these suddhas are like. Only what they say is the truth and only they are "independent". If you disagree with this then you are a "non-independent" individual or brainwashed stooge of some kind.

I have met suddhas who are "deeply offended" when "little brown people" do not subscribe to their bs, and get aggressive when not only you challenge their bs but disprove it with good a counter-argument that is logical unlike their nonsensical "holier than thou" and "we are always right" take and hard for them to response to (one time after a such an argument -but not related to SL- the suddha extremely frustrated goes "I do not really care", swears a lot then leaves –well he wanted the last word haha).

Anyway as I said earlier doing such is a must. Its not about now, but deep into the future. The studies (done by patriotic academia at the Universities and hence will be done well and hard to question) would form the base source when people (not just suddhas, but others in the world) decades from now start researching or mentioning the war in SL, especially when SL starts economically developing more people will dig up SLs recent history.

My Comment at The Economist

.......

Nirvana-bound,

You just miss the ANARCHY that prevailed in Sri Lanka prior to the conclusion of Eelam War IV and the eradication of the terrorists, don't you? You miss the bombs going off, and NGOs, foreign power brokers, and separatists being law unto themselves dictating to the Govt of Sri Lanka, and the vast majority of its helpless people, how they should conduct their lives in abject bondage to anti-national elements, don't you?

This is no longer the case in Sri Lanka. Sri Lankans can now go to work in the morning and expect to return home safely to their families in the evening, a human right that was anathema to the anti-national elements.

Instead of "internecine & sectarian hatred continuing unabated" as you claim, what you see today is the last gasp of those who spawned those very ills in our motherland, never to return again. Unlike incurably disappointed naysayers like you .. chagrined by the loss of your investment in a divided and weak Sri Lanka that you could bend to your will, and milk to your profit .. we see the beginnings of a Golden Age for ALL PEOPLE of Sri Lanka: ONE Nation INDIVISIBLE populated by ONE People INDIVISIBLE, sharing ONE Destiny INDIVISIBLE poised to FORGE Ahead to UNIMAGINABLE PROSPERITY .. together again as ONE.

The military campaign to liberate and unify the Motherland was begun while the oft repeated mantra of the naysayers was "This War Cannot be Won by Military Means," and "The Tamil Tigers Cannot be Defeated Militarily." Well, ACCEPT IT NOW, that the Tamil Tigers were downsized into mewling pussycats and ERADICATED by leaf, branch, trunk and root from Sri Lanka. The nattering nabobs of political negativism predicted a tight presidential race too. ACCEPT IT NOW, that they were WRONG AGAIN SPADES .. while we Patriots PREDICTED and WON a LANDSLIDE victory. Place your pusillanimous bets now, on the results of the upcoming General Election if you are willing to put your money where your mouth is .. and lose again in SPADES when President Mahinda Rajapaksa's party romps to a LANDSLIDE VICTORY again.

What you don't seem to realize, blinded as you are by your incurable negativism, is that a Wave of Patriotism and Optimism has Swept the Motherland .. a sea-change in political sentiment leading to a paradigm shift in national will .. that no Anti-National Forces can stop. It will SURGE ON to recreate the Resplendent Fortress Lanka of Old of UNIMAGINED PROSPERITY, with MEANINGFUL EQUAL RIGHTS for ALL, based on an EQUAL RESPONSIBILITY of EVERY CITIZEN to LOVE, DEFEND and NUTURE the Motherland. No Devolution of power on the basis of ethnicity, language, religion, caste to regions, and NO EELAMS WHATSOEVER.

Do you want to come along for this EXHILARATING RIDE to the closest thing to a Nirvana on Earth for us Sri Lankans, to the "New Wonder of Asia", or do you want to get off the bus NOW?

Gonseka is also saying "MR not behaviour like a man who won by 1.8 million...shows he is afraid of me". lolz

This mans ability to lie is surpassing the suddhas masters and their Tamilia apprentices.

Why is he so afraid to acknowledge he lost?
Considering the threats and deaths he issued and assured like the arrogant Gona he is when he was so sure of winning days before the PE (probably with planned rigging expecting small turnout/closer gap), Government response is very mild.

/Government needs to delay the GE and or do the census after declaring the GE. It should be a "quick" census./

GSL need to have GE before April. So maximum we get is around one month even GSL dissolve parliament in March. Census need only one day but organizing the entire process and preparing electoral list may need more time. So this may not be a possibility.

Anonymous said...

In the interests of the nation i hope they do it.

The fewer TNA type sakkilyas we have in Parliament the better.

My knowledge of how the system works for GE is limited.

Perhaps a guesstimate of the population can be used for allocation of MPs seats??

Ananda-USA said...

Patriots,

We need to respond to the comment by by dias_2 at the Economist. I will do so as well.

His principal argument is that MR lost Tamil Votes in the PE, and therefore, we need to go the hearts and minds route again towards devolution of power.

I think devolution of power on communal bases will spell National Suicide for Sri Lanka.

Anonymous said...

PS

Parliament has 225 seats and we get 196 district basis. (National list 29 no issue.) Allocation of these 196 for each district is based on no of voters in each district. And EC uses voters list updated by census. As our process is manual I don't think its possible to complete it within 1 month - census: initiation to end.

Yes the Government needs to win their heart. To do so, MR has not been mandated to stab the Nation. If one thing is certain it is MR, the best among a very few leaders that we can trust on.

Winning Tamils' heart is not going in the direction of devolution and pave the way for another LTTE.

And also it is not the subjugation of Tamil people to Sinhalease hegamony.

It is the notion of One Country, One People, One Nation and One law.

It will take time. That is why we need leaders we can trust to be stable at the helm.

Nation building through corruption - free commitment and discipline – President

Address by His Excellency President Mahinda Rajapaksa, at the 62nd Independence Anniversary Celebrations Kandy, February 4, 2010 .

Today we celebrate the anniversary of Independence after the liberation of the entire country from terrorist threat for the first time in 30 years. I am proud to proclaim that we are in a position to raise the flag of Sri Lanka with dignity in the entire country.

In 1815, Variyapola Sumangala Thero hoisted our flag on this historic land after lowering the Union Jack. I wish to pay my respect to the venerable monks as well as the revered clergy of all religions for their dedication and commitment displayed to preserve this freedom.

When I unfurled the national flag today, I remembered those heroic soldiers who sacrificed their lives and limbs for the freedom of the country and all those who worked with dedication for the liberation struggle.

Friends,

Freedom is a responsibility. The people of this country have entrusted me with that responsibility on January 26 by a larger majority than in the 2005 Presidential election. I would like to assure you that I will fulfill that trust placed upon me.

Accordingly, it was demonstrated to the world that for us the Motherland is first, second and third. Thus, we have become richer with the supreme human quality of gratitude. It is my fortune to fight along side people with such great qualities to preserve the freedom of our nation. It is indeed a privilege to live in a country with such intelligent people. I am fortunate to be the leader of a country of fathers, mothers and children who know the value of gratitude.

I have succeeded in uniting the territory. Now, I am entrusted with the task of uniting the hearts of all sections of our people. I willingly take over the noble task of creating peace among our communities.

The first Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. D. S. Senanayake stated on the occasion of the first Independence Day that the meaning of freedom is to curtail sorrows and enhance happiness. That is the desire of the people when a country attains independence. I would like to point out that the past four years was the most meaningful era of freedom since we attained independence.

Friends,

This is the time when the benefits of unifying the nation begin to show results. Now that the war has ended, the nation is saving more than the cost of the war. International research magazines recently reported that Sri Lanka is among the 31 countries in the list of best tourist destinations. Sri Lanka is second only to China among Asia's fastest growing economies. Sri Lanka is also listed among the best countries for investment. We cordially invite investors here.

We were able to gain such achievements because infrastructure was speedily built whilst the war was being waged. I will use this mandate given by you to re- establish all that was lost for the past 30 years due to the war.

Our country which fell back in progress because of the war needs to be advanced swiftly. Peace alone is not enough. An efficient, advanced nation needs to be built to replace a country which is lazy, lethargic and lacks energy. It is meaningless to blame our nation for its inefficiency whilst referring to the efficiency and progress of other countries. We proved at the recent overwhelming victory that our people could overtake them.

Nation building through corruption - free commitment and discipline – President

.....continued 1....
In the development of the country the private sector too has a responsibility similar to that of the public sector. There is a better environment for the private sector which was at a standstill during the war. I expect a public service which can take quick decisions and which is people friendly. I will make the government service a service for the public.

You are aware that during the operation to defend the country, I protected the heroes who fought for the country. I represented them everywhere. And now in the nation building process, I will protect the honest and skilled people who work for the betterment of the country. The country cannot be developed with harassment, gross punishments or by the gun. Discipline is not revenge. The nation can only be built through commitment, discipline and elimination of corruption.

In the Mahinda Chintana, we mentioned that Sri Lanka will be made a centre of marine, aviation, commercial, energy and knowledge. You may feel that this target is very far. But we will bring the benefits of these five great economic forces closer to your feet in the near future in order to end the era of sorrow and tears. We will give more opportunities to artistes, authors, musicians so that the yield of their creativity would enhance the contentment of the society.

We will make this a country where people return to, instead of leave for fear of life or poverty. We need to remove the bureaucratic hurdles on the path to economic development as we removed road barriers. My people were at a standstill for thirty years because of terrorists. Now this era is over. We will create a country where people can live at ease.

I implore the separatist forces and local and international conspirators not to underestimate our motherland and the people of this nation.

Friends,

We have brought massive development to the North and East regions as never witnessed in history after removing their fear of death. Uthuru Vasanthaya (Northern Spring) and Nagenahira Navodaya (Eastern Awakening) are some of the major development projects in the country.

The people of the North and East suffered for thirty years without their democratic rights. I was able to grant them democracy. That is the greatest victory we have achieved.

We do not strengthen the parties based on divisive politics on the basis of colour or tribe, pro- LTTE or separatist.

I am certain that the people in the North and East could stand on their own feet through a solution wrought by devolving powers to the villages and empowering them in the entire country.

In accordance with Mahinda Chintana: Vision Ahead, I believe that discussions should be held with the people and their representatives of those areas to find solutions and take action as necessary.

....continued 2...
(In Tamil)

My dear people

Today is our Independence Day. It is a very happy day for all of us. Thirty years of terrorism is now over. We are celebrating our independence in such an atmosphere for the first time. Now all of you can live in consolation without fear or doubt.

Anyone can go anywhere freely. That is very important. This is our motherland. All of us are children of one mother. All of us are kings today. We all should live together as brothers with equal rights and with dignity. Let us discuss our issues among ourselves and resolve them.

Everyone will receive all facilities in equal manner. That is called equality and equal rights.

One country, one people, one law. That is our way, the only way.

Thus, there is no racism, separatism or terrorism. Never forget the motherland; never betray it. We consider no one in our country as a minority person. All those who love the country are children of Mother Lanka.

Our motherland is emerging as a hub of development. Democracy should be protected forever.

Recently, the people of Northern and Eastern provinces too were able to vote democratically. I am very pleased about it. Politicians should not mislead the innocent people.

Hereafter, we will not entertain narrow divisions based on race, religion, language and political ideology in terms of regions. Never leave room for the politics of hate. Peace, brotherhood, co-existence and prosperity -- that is our prime objective.

Let us join together. Let us build this country for the sake of our future generations.

(End of Tamil text)

Friends,

You all are aware that our foreign policy is independent and non-aligned. It is no secret that we have maintained close friendly relationships with our neighbours such as India, China, Japan and others. We also maintain close affinity with Africa, the West, the Middle East and the European countries.

In my foreign policy, whatever I have done was in the interest of the people of this country. Now the world should have a correct opinion about us. The Tiger terrorism that impacted on other countries too has ended. The state of war is now over. We are entering into a new era of co-existence after finishing the period of some controversy. I would like to say that we are now entering the golden era of international relations.

Ananda-USA said...

Nation building through corruption - free commitment and discipline – President

....continued 3...
Friends,

I never thought of gaining political mileage and take decisions that betrayed the nation. I will never betray the country. The decisions I took from the time when I decided to defeat terrorism, were taken while thinking of the country's welfare. I did not think of political power when I took decisions. I did not take decisions to implement major projects; the Norochcholai coal power station and Upper Kotmale hydroelectric project to obtain foreign assistance to stay in power. I have done this for the development of the country. I have done this because those are essential for the country. We will not surrender even an inch of territory from our Motherland. As I have always said, we will not take even a single step backwards to stay in power. On the other hand, we will go forward many steps under any difficult conditions in the interest of the nation.

My feet were worn out by walking in long marches with my people. I have sweated in the fight for the rights of the working class. My voice was trained and tuned to rise up against injustice.

I spent my free time listening to the grievances of the common people. The only time I could not listen to the problems of the common people was when I was imprisoned for fighting for the democratic rights of the people. Our house has become a home for the common people. Today, the luxurious carpets at the Temple Trees affectionately receive the feet of common people.

I did not ask you to crown me. However, please remember that I have placed the crown of freedom, prosperity and heroism on the heads of you and your children.

I have understood the fatherly love and affection of your sons and daughters for me. The affection of the sons and daughters of this country was an enormous blessing for me.

It was on this historic place that Veera Keppetipola sacrificed his life without any fear, for the freedom of the nation. I believe that the leaders who ruled this nation should have a heart which will not betray the country similar to that of Veera Keppetipola.

Now I am addressing you from the place where the child hero, Madduma Bandara, son of Keppetipola's sister, sacrificed his life without display of any fear. Please remember that the hearts of your sons and daughters too are filled with unlimited love for the motherland similar to that of Madduma Bandara. Your sons and daughters have unlimited love for me for the same reason.

I feel I am the world's luckiest leader of state to earn the love and affection of such a heroic and talented generation of children.

Friends,

Please protect your child who grows up with love for the country. We have to build a society where your sons and daughters could live with knowledge and good values. It is for our children that we build this nation to be the Pride of Asia.

I wish you a prosperous future.

May the Triple Gem bless you and the blessings of the Sacred Tooth relic be with you.

He was taking revenge on the very same war heroes who liberated Sri Lanka. That is, apart from the list of things he did that SU often mentions.

/Australian Federal Police officers were warned by a judge saying they could face criminal charges over their arrest of a Sri Lankan Tamil man at gunpoint on terrorism charges, the Age newspaper reported.

Sydney accountant Arumugam Rajeevan, 43, was on his way to lobby a NSW senator in July 2007 when police removed him from his car at gunpoint, demanding he lie face down outside the senator's office with his hands cuffed behind his back.

The Age can reveal that during pretrial argument last year about the admissibility of Rajeevan's interview in the Victorian Supreme Court, Justice Paul Coghlan warned that police could face criminal charges if they answered questions about the circumstances of Rajeevan's arrest.

Police can face assault charges if they use more than reasonable force in an arrest.

During a hearing for Rajeevan and two Melbourne men yesterday, Justice Coghlan said many people who gave money after the 2004 tsunami could technically be caught by the same terror laws under which the three Tamil men are being prosecuted.

He said last year: ''A question of criminal liability arises in circumstances that the arrest and continued detention was potentially unlawful.''

As a result, Commonwealth prosecutors discontinued their bid to have Rajeevan's interview admitted in evidence.

Yesterday, Phillip Boulton, SC, for Rajeevan, said use of a firearm during the arrest of his client was ''illegal and improper'' and should be considered by the court in determining its sentence for Rajeevan, who has pleaded guilty along with two Melbourne men to providing money to a terrorist organisation, the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE)./

Moshe,

The reason why I believe it is important is that with SLs economy picking up, and holding “international events” (such as cricket world cups and Boggles obsession with the Commonwealth –whats the point in us being part of that rubbish?) we will be in the headlines and our enemies will always harp on about recent history to insult/humiliate us which they enjoy (see what was done to China during the Olympics in 2008), depicting people SL as “evil”.

There has been a lot of mud thrown at us. The rest of the non-Western world, with no counter view since the monopoly on world media is with the West, will believe the mud against us for simply the lack of an alternative. Having a University study into the numbers (in our favour of course) will form a solid basis which in years from now will be quoted. Like I said this is about looking deep into the future not now, or the next decade. A shroud of secrecy and ambiguity enables propaganda against us to take place as the sole facts.

The counter propaganda war, assuming we get as good as them, can be backed immensely making our propaganda look more credible with empirical evidence as a a result of such a study behind it. In time our version will then be accepted.

Release of such a study data (when it is actually carried out does not matter) should happen in a couple years, not now. It should coincide with release of news that the US/Blake was behind the LTTE human shield concept + West backing LTTE, to save the LTTE all at the same time of lecturing us about human rights and their media white washing/ignoring/down playing the real civilian slaughter in Iraq etc.

This study concept should be part of a larger “education” and “image” drive.

It exposes their hypocrisy and would win lots of support from the world over. The West and Tamila will say “its biased” but that’s what they say anyway even right now, so if we do a multi-fold approach (as above how the West was backing the LTTE and throwing mud at us while preaching to us and pretending to be “impartial”) people will believe us even more.

The rest of the world will listen to us if we make ourselves heard, and if we do it properly (us being a victims of the West and their machinations since the 1700s) they will listen to us even more so. Tamilia goes around acting as if we are running an imperial occupation and treat them as slaves (this is what they tell people outside the West, within it they kiss suddha ass and how much they loved their time in the sun- only honest with them haha).
We can also through in their attempt at regime change using Gonseka, election violence, and bribes.
The role of NGOs and “free media” monkey planting false information and acting as fifth columns.

Carefully planned release of such information consecutively and at the appropriate time (years from now) will make each point have impact.

Hi All,
It seem like some of you guys started blogging in DW. I believe it is best to stick to this blog. DW served a purpose, but he has shown (in my mind) that his reporting is biased towards UNP and SF. As patriots we do not won't a defence blog to be that.

Secondly during a height of national crisis he purposely let the blog die down thinking that this would stop patriots from blogging against SF.

At DW, I posed the question why he suddenly decided to re appear after the loss of SF. I cannot see any answers. Also although the article looks like he is critical of SF, what he basically does is a DBSJ, where it critises SF, but at the same time puts his profile up. As far as I can see DW is a pro UNP, SF supporter and that is not something we should have in defence blogs.

To me, him not administering the blog during the PE period is unforgivable, which ever political inclinations he had. I don't believe that the long abasence from defence articles was him taking a break as he could have created a new thread for us to continue blogging without publishing any new articles. It is purely for selfish reasons such as his bias and political affiliation; and that is unforgivable.

Luckily we had Ananda, Moshe, SK, Sam e.t.c. to create a new defence blog for us, which we are all thankful.

So hopefully we continue to do our major blogging of defence matters in this blog.

The Army will have nothing to do with it either, for if they did, the 5 forcibly retired Generals (and we can name at least five more who Fonseka promoted above others) would have left the Army and joined his campaign. Now a show of support like that would have definitely turned the tables on the Rajapakse regime. But this did not happen.

-------------------------------
Also the comment where DW states that this would have definitely turned the tables puts him in to another delusional SF, Core UNP supporter. Firs no one can be definitely. Second, the army must be around 50/50 split between UNP and UPFA. Therefore when five high ranking officers start supporting UNP, there would be another five ranking officers coming in to the front to counteract those guys. Which ever way, the election has shown what SL people thinks about SF and the current leadership of the UNP.

Also his comment about Rajapaskse "regime" sounds like he has become another NGO, HR type person. It is GSL or Rajapakse government and not a regime. It is a regime to people who despise SL. I can't remember calling JR Regime or Premadasa Regime or Ranil Regime.

Multipolar has multivision too. Sorry admins just for fun...

We are a nation depend on foreign money and loans.

Basically, if we don't get them, we will be bankrupt.

Facing a bankruptcy, it is irresponsible to call elections 2 years prior to the elections suppose to happen.

It is irresponsible in the leadership to spend government money and resources to run that election.

It is irresponsible to Gonseka to contest in that election.

If you don't contest MR will get elected without contest and we could have saved all that money. Too bad even though Gonseka is a patriot due to lack of economics knowledge he contested.

This is how you prostitute democracy. Democracy is a free hooker in Sri Lankan politics.

The politician ball lickers don't see it that way.

Re: SF

My comments about SF is based on his contribution to war and politics [two public acts he took part in]. I do not want to consider his private life in such.

When we discuss SF the commander I do not consider his allegations of Dhanawathie affair, phone sex, name calling of ppl, not even smashing at a cook/barber. With all those difficulties, one can still be a good general. But some of such do matter in politics.

Hicorp matters in both.

I have heard that Einstein the brilliant man had been violent to his wife, and Churchill the war hero was a bloody drunkard. We do not include such when we discuss the professional conduct do we?

Thusitha;

Let's spend our precious time in both. Let's keep DW alive, and see which turn he takes. Tell you the truth I am not convinced of his die-hard support for SF, yet there are so many questions.

To save time let's leave the mentally sick multipolar who's currently appearing as Pakis Buruwa. As DeshaP deliberately showed by giving him rope, this idiot cannot discuss a matter or construct and argument. It is just his loneliness, and the urge to talk and seek attention.

I am looking for a way to cut him off by ID itself and violate his f**king right of expression aka defecation in public in big time.

Yes we do kill terrorists and I still do not believe they are entitled for human rights.

There is a lot more to the Fonseka affair than what meets the eye.

In a land where money moves mountains, Fonseka was only a molehill.

The saga of the past seven months and the hundreds of million dollars wasted are all for one man. Once he is secure, you'll all get to read the full report.

Until then, bite your claws and wait for more seemingly innocent generals to move out of the country.

What would you say about his tendency to take revenge on countless number of valuable officers? Taking them away from ground command and being put in administrative posts simply due to petty personal reasons?

Does it make him a patriot if he purposely missed on working together with navy and airforce on more than 1 occasion costing hundreds of lives? What does it make him if he had given orders to the ground troops not to let any sailors on shore for anything at some particular places during the final stages of war making it necessary for commanders like Prasanna Silva to secretly allow it when there was necessity, for humane reasons?

Can you imagine any sane human behaving that way let alone be a petriot?

One's acceptance on some one as a patriot depends on info you have about the person. Before Nov from what we knew we thought SF is a great hero. After Nov we received more info related to before Nov. Some were still accusations but some seems true. Example treatment for Muhamale debacle, taking revenge from PrsannaS, DayaR, ParakramaP, and more. Now after we get more info relevant for before Nov period we have to consider that info too making decision on SF is patriot or not, even for before Nov period. Any one separating SF politician and SF soldier and worshiping the good part of soldier (and ignore rest) is pretty much close to a di-ass-pora donkey who worshiped full VP full time.

Not just Guantanamo Bay, they are holding 35,000-65,000 Iraqis in Um Quasa still in detention since the war.

They are still using Abu Grahib and Bagram Airbase to imprison thousands and torture hundreds. A lot of those in the prisons have just been picked off the streets for doing nothing but being Arab men within a certain age frame. Sri Lanka to hunt army deserters after amnesty ends

ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Feb 05, Colombo: Sri Lankan government has launched an operation to hunt down the army deserters who failed to take the opportunity given yesterday to surrender, military officials said.

Military spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara said heeding to the amnesty called to coincide with the 62nd Independence Day yesterday, 1,422 deserters surrendered to the authorities but there are thousands more listed as deserters who did not take the opportunity.

The surrendered troops will not be prosecuted, the spokesman said.

The law enforcement authorities say the deserters are responsible for a majority of crimes in the country and the government wants to clean up the military.

....students often ask me whether multiple personality disorder (MPD) really exists. I usually reply that the symptoms attributed to it are as genuine as hysterical paralysis and seizures....

Multiple personality disorder (MPD) is a disorder characterized by having at least one "alter" personality that controls behavior. The "alters" are said to occur spontaneously and involuntarily, and function more or less independently of each other. The unity of consciousness, by which we identify our selves, is said to be absent in MPD. Another symptom of MPD is significant amnesia which can't be explained by ordinary forgetfulness. In 1994, the American Psychiatric Association's DSM-IV replaced the designation of MPD with DID: dissociative identity disorder. The label may have changed, but the list of symptoms remained essentially the same.

Memory and other aspects of consciousness are said to be divided up among "alters" in the MPD. The number of "alters" identified by various therapists ranges from several to tens to hundreds. There are even some reports of several thousand identities dwelling in one person. There does not seem to be any consensus among therapists as to what an "alter" is. Yet, there is general agreement that the cause of MPD is repressed memories of childhood sexual abuse. The evidence for this claim has been challenged, however, and there are very few reported cases of MPD afflicting children.

...the evidence is now voluminous that there are not a handful or a hundred but thousands of cases of MPD diagnosed today, and it almost invariably owes its existence to prolonged early childhood abuse, usually sexual, and of sickening severity. Nicholas Humphrey and I investigated MPD several years ago ["Speaking for Our Selves: An Assessment of Multiple Personality Disorder," Raritan, 9, pp. 68-98] and found it to be a complex phenomenon that extends far beyond individual brains and the sufferers.

These children have often been kept in such extraordinary terrifying and confusing circumstances that I am more amazed that they survive psychologically at all than I am that they manage to preserve themselves by a desperate redrawing of their boundaries. What they do, when confronted with overwhelming conflict and pain, is this: They "leave." They create a boundary so that the horror doesn't happen to them; it either happens to no one, or to some other self, better able to sustain its organization under such an onslaught--at least that's what they say they did, as best they recall....

Dissociative identity disorder (DID) is a psychiatric :(diagnosis that describes a condition in which a person displays multiple distinct identities or personalities (known as alter egos or alters), each with its own pattern of perceiving and interacting with the environment. In the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems the name for this diagnosis is multiple personality disorder. In both systems of terminology, the diagnosis requires that at least two personalities routinely take control of the individual's behavior with an associated memory loss that goes beyond normal forgetfulness; in addition, symptoms cannot be the temporary effects of drug use or a general medical condition.

Signs and symptoms

Individuals diagnosed with DID demonstrate a variety of symptoms with wide fluctuations across time; functioning can vary from severe impairment in daily functioning to normal or high abilities. Symptoms can include:[2]

* Multiple mannerisms, attitudes and beliefs that are not similar to each other
* unexplainable headaches and other body pains
* distortion or loss of subjective time
* comorbidity
* depersonalization
* derealization
* severe memory loss
* depression
* flashbacks of abuse/trauma
* unexplainable phobias
* sudden anger without a justified cause
* lack of intimacy and personal connections
* frequent panic/anxiety attacks
* auditory hallucinations of the personalities inside their mind

Not much of a surprise.

Many Sinhalese outside of SL do not car for the country.

I have met such clowns in Canada and Australia. They not only do not care for Sri Lanka, they attack those who do and love to kiss suddha.

One idiot Sinhala women in her 20s ish said "i can understand the Tamils frustration with the genocide happening against them".

Had to explain what genocide means.

Other Sinhalese "do not want to offend Tamils" and like to "build/improve relations" even though said Tamils are funding/supporting destruction of Sri Lanka and make it obvious what they are doing. Sinhalese are like so scared as well because there are more Tamils in whatever country they are in. There are ALWAYS more Tamils than Sinhalese.

In London they are also split UNP/SLFP (Wtf?). That is why when MR was in London back in 2008 the UNPers never came to support him. Lots wrote to papers how they were "united" when Amensty International attacked the cricket team in 2007 and conducted a large protest there but when things were said against the Government and the war they were not bothered because "it was not UNP" and MR is wrong in what he was/is doing.

"all these folks who completely blame SF for everything talking about unproven.."

which para?? or which comment???

Moshe Dyan said...

re: "all these folks who completely blame SF for everything talking about unproven.."

this is not so. these allegations ARE PROVEN enough!!

of course some are not legally proven yet. but still they are proven POLITICALLY, MORALLY , by self admission and by subsequent conduct.

we should not get confined to the LEGAL aspect. for instance USA was never proven guilty of killing 1,000,000 iraqi children. (s)hitler was NEVER proven guilty for MOST crimes he committed. VP was not proven for MOST crimes he committed. karuna was not proven for ANY crime he committed. IPKF was not proven for MOST crimes they committed. hirohitho was not proven for ANY crime he committed. LEGALLY.

we have to look at ALL proven crimes, immorals, wrongs, irregularities, malpractices, evils, etc. from the aspects of POLITICAL, MORAL, self admission and subsequent conduct.

Moshe Dyan said...

thus proven stuff against SF.

1. he engaged in conduct unbecoming of a gentleman.

this has been proven by a competant military court too.

2. he had a sexual relationship with a GRADE 9 school girl.

although she married him a 22 year old army officer carrying on a sexual relationship with a grade 9 school girl in 1973 in IMMORAL. she, in an interview to a newspaper, admitted to this. there was the misuse of telephone facilities crime here too in 1973. this would have costed a few rupees and moral value (if any of SF) in 1973. it went unpunished and it became a multi million rupee affair 23 years later!!!

http://www.sundayobserver.lk/2001/pix/PrintPage.asp?REF=/2007/10/07/spe02.asp

the VULGER DIRTY ROWDY "LOVE" affair from the mouth of anoma.

shameless!!

3. SF was not awarded VSV which is ONLY awarded for servicemen who conducted themselves with distinction.

even until he reached RETAIREMENT AGE, SF didn;t win this!!

4. SF accepted danuna's arms business and there are enough proof that PROVE CONCLUSIVELY that these are true. SF shamelessly tried to save danuna and HICORP during election time from allegations further proving their connection. undeclared related party transactions with staff is corruption for all intents ad purposes.

5. SF openly declared "gota ordered to kill surrendered tigers and their family members".

this statement NULLIFIED ALL THE achievements SF for 40 years military service.

6. SF said USDHS wanted to question SF on GR's alleged war crimes.

if true, SF would have given an essey of such "war crimes" attributable to GR.

in doing so he HINTED that "US is convinced of GR's war crimes and after GR's war crimes".

strangely now SF says he seeks asylum in the UK and australia!! IF US was trying to question him on GR's alleged war crimes what is the problem with SF???? he should be able to return to USA. but he seeks asylum elsewhere bcos he lied and afraid to go back to USA.

7. SF cleared all doubt about his character when he openly called a close family friend of his, "kalawedda, paharaya, katulewakana balla", etc. no serious presidential aspirant ever used such terms in public. it shows the inability to control his words and deeds.

8. at the height of the war SF made moral blunders. once he called tamil nadu politicians "clowns". at another time he declared, "he believed this country belonged to the sinhalese".

these statements adversely affected SL's outlook.

9. ALL military operations DIRECTLY executed by SF in elam war 4 ended in DEBACELS. the first muhamalai DEBACLE is enough proof of the incompetency of SF even as a military leader. however he repeated that a few times.

10. he betrayed the ESSENCE OF THE WAR when he teamed up with TAMIL ELAM NATIONAL ALIENS. there is enough proof. TNA members stated that they support SF bcos he ACCEPTED their demands. their demands were also presented to the president.

legal apprehension of SF is yet to happen but he has proven POLITICALLY, MORALLY AND THROUGH SELF ADMISSION that he is as guilty as idi amin, polpot or (s)hitler. no more, no less. (no one of them was proven legally at least for 10% of the crimes they committed.)

My debate is not about whether he was a patriot. It is about whether he was a good commander.

Patriotism is deep within you and outsiders cannot read it. One may do the same action a patriot does, for other gains like, fame, glory, public attention, triumph, revenge etc.

Muha affair shows another weakness of teh general. But there are some other battles that him and his team won equally brilliantly.

It is hard to compare SF with any other independently. No commander was blessed with the immaculate political leadership and management of MR and GR. Yet I am unable to take out a share that SF put into overall success.

Sri Lankan Tamils will get exactly EQUAL RIGHTS, and the EQUAL RESPONSIBILITY to LOVE, DEFEND and NURTURE Sri Lanka. Not ONE iota MORE, not ONE iota less. No EELAM whatsoever. ONLY rights EQUAL to the Sinhala and Muslim people of Sri Lanka.

There will be NO devolution of power in Sri Lanka on the communal bases like ethnicity, religion, language or caste .. NONE WHATEVER. All of Sri Lanka belongs to ALL of its people .. EQUALLY. Not PART BY PART, but as a WHOLE.

ONE Nation INDIVISIBLE,
ONE People INDOMITABLE,
ONE Destiny INSEPARABLE.

Anyone will be able to settle wherever he wants to in Sri Lanka, and the State will develop the resources of Sri Lanka to benefit ALL of its people.

Anyone who finds this objectionable should emigrate NOW to wherever he or she can get a better deal. Good luck hunting for the Golden Fleece!

...............
Rajapaksa formula for solving Tamil issue

P K Balachandran
February 05, 2010

COLOMBO: Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa has said that the solution to the Tamil problem lies in establishing village-level democratic institutions rather than ethnicity-based units such as the Provincial Councils.

“I am certain that the people in the North and East could stand on their own feet through a solution wrought by devolving powers to the villages and empowering them in the entire country,” the President said in his Independence Day speech in Kandy on Thursday.

“The people of the North and East suffered for 30 years without their democratic rights. I was able to grant them democracy. That is the greatest victory we have achieved. Future progress would not lie in the strengthening of divisive ethnic politics,” he asserted.

Rajapaksa lauds India, forgets Pak: He went on to laud his “close ties” with India, China and Japan, but forgot to mention Pakistan, which had consistently supplied arms to fight the LTTE.

“You all are aware that our foreign policy is independent and non-aligned. It is no secret that we have maintained close friendly relationships with our neighbours such as India, China, Japan and others,” he said.

Presumably, Pakistan was in the category “others”.

The President went on to say: “I implore the separatist forces and local and international conspirators not to underestimate our motherland and the people of this nation. The world should have a correct opinion about us.”

There’ll be no discrimination, Rajapaksa assures Tamils: Breaking into Tamil during his oration, Rajapaksa urged Tamils not to think of themselves as a minority.

Speaking from the ramparts of the fortress-like Temple of the Buddha’s Tooth in the island’s ancient capital, Rajapaksa said: “Thirty years of terrorism is now over. We are celebrating our independence in such an atmosphere for the first time. Anyone can go anywhere freely. That is very important.”

This MR is so so so bad. Why could not he be subservient to The Masters?

I am going mad. MR is responsible. This MR, what a creature. He was responsile even for the 1975 SF's Unbecoming of a officer and gentleman.

We should punish MR for destroying LTTE, for not listening to the West.
We need a pretext. Let us say that it Was MR made SF doing what he did in 1975.

When SF said that the Army will take care if SF failed to win the election was not pure bluffing. Underneath the surface many army officers had joined the the coup which failed to take place. People power stopped the coup.

By Hemantha Randunu

February 06, 2010

A special Police team yesterday traced a hideout used by LTTEleader Velupillai Prabhakaran during the final stages of war at Vellamulliwaikkaland and recovered several files containing classified information, 56 CDs and a large quantity of sophisticated weapons.

Police ascertained information about the hideout by questioning six of Prabhakaran’s closest aides now in custody.

A police team headed by SSP Quintus Raymond conducted the search operation on the instructions of Northern Province DIG Nimal Lewke.

Information contained in files pertained to Prabhakaran, his family members and his close associates and they would help the police and the security forces with the on-going investigations, investigators said.Police said all these documents and weapons had been buried underground.

The police also recovered 17 suicide jackets, 7,000 Jhonny mines, 300 kilos of C-4 explosives, 8 claymore mines and a host of weapons and ammunition.

There was evidence that the LTTEhad run an arms manufacturing factory in the vicinity of Prabhakaran’s hideout but that facility had been destroyed by the fleeing Tigers to prevent it from falling to the security forces, the police said.

Let us adhere to this. Let us not respond even in indirect form unless it is absolutely necessary prevent some other bloggers thinking the issues are being evaded.

Most of what he says are just rantings. No need to respond anyway.

Govt. says SF planned Russian style coup

By Sandun A. Jayasekera
Daily Mirror
February 06, 2010

Cabinet spokesman and Media Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa in a startling revelation yesterday alleged that General Sarath Fonseka’s camp had planned a coup on January 27 by assassinating top government leaders including President Mahinda Rajapaksa, his brothers Gotabhaya and Basil and senior ministers. “With the military officers who were active partners of the conspiracy spilling the beans, it is frightening to contemplate the result

of what may have happened if such a Russian revolution-style military coup had taken place,” he said.

Minister Yapa said if the deadly deed was carried out, the country was to be told that government leaders had been killed by an angry public disgruntled with the performance of the government.

“In a popular revolt when people get killed it’s not possible to pinpoint the killers. That was how the plotters planned to divert the attention of the public from the blood bath and prevent investigations being conducted,” he said.

Minister Yapa said that similar to what happened at the 1917 Russian revolution, ‘Bolshevik Committees’ headed by military officers handpicked by General Fonseka were to be appointed to carry out the work at various state institutions.

He said if the coup had succeeded the country would have been thrown into turmoil resulting in a security threat to the region especially India.

“No Asian country would have been happy if a military strongman emerged in Sri Lanka because it could be a threat to democracy in South Asia,” Minister Yapa stressed.

He said the baseless allegations about the final results of the presidential election being flawed were the result of the failure of the planed coup.

Minister Yapa said the opposition was not trying to destabilize the Mahinda Rajapaksa regime by casting doubts on the final results and were feeding rumors to the international community with the intention of discouraging investors and tourists coming here.

He said the Elections Commissioner, election officials, local and foreign observers and even opposition and UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe have said the presidential poll was free and fair and added that not a single complaint had been made of election malpractice on January 26.

“I think the allegations are being made with political survival and the forthcoming general elections in mind,” Minister Yapa said.

He said politicians in a democracy must learn to accept victory and defeat gracefully adding that the situation Sri Lanka is witnessing today had never occurred before.

“However, every citizen of this country is fortunate that General Fonseka’s camp was not able to fulfill its objectives. If they did the country would have been on fire,” Minister Yapa said.
