The Silent Revolution of 2010...

By Diyasena

With the results of the 2010 General election published, the governing United People's Freedom alliance (UPFA) has recorded an unprecedented victory in recent election history. When the results of the two annulled electorates are announced, and the national list allocations are completed, the UPFA is expected to get a massive 144-146 seats out of 225.

Mage Mathru Bhumiya Dinewa!

Epic victory

The UPFA victory eclipses the previous record for the highest number of seats obtained by a winning party (ie, the United National Party's 125 seats in 1989) under the proportional representation (PR) system of 1978. It also debunks the myth that strong governments cannot be formed under the PR system.

The number of seats obtained by the UPFA does not reflect the full grandeur of the victory. They carried 135 of 158 electorates (similar to the 5/6 victory of UNP in 1977). Their winning percentage of 60.4%, and margin of 1.8 million (against the aggregates of all other parties), are unprecedented as well. One might complain that the turnout was comparatively low. However this was to be expected after the presidential election, and compared to other democracies in the world, 55% is by no means a low turnout. Moreover, if one looks at the results carefully, it is apparent at roughly similar numbers of government and opposition supporters stayed home on election day, compared to the Presidential Election on January 26, 2010.

The victorious UPFA

As requested by the president, the people have given the UPFA a strong Electroral Mandate, thereby ensuring 6 more years of stable rule. The leaders of the government have to realize that this is the last election they can market the war victory for votes. Other issues will take center stage in subsequent elections:

1. The economy- The government will hopefully be able to reap in the benefits of the infrastructure developments and economic growth over the next six years. The peace dividend should filter down to the masses, who richly deserve it.

2. Corruption and thuggery- The UPFA voters themselves have voted out some of the corrupt and inefficient ministers of the previous government. However, some errant characters who are locally popular have been elected. The government should rein in these MPs, and project the image of a true people's government. With a strong government, the president has the luxury of appointing a small cabinet. The choosing of suitable and efficient ministers, as well as a capable prime minister, will be very important for the future of the UPFA government.

3. The Eelam struggle- Though the armed struggle was extinguished last year, the diaspora Tamils backed by western powers still plot and scheme to divide the island. Whilst countering these threats externally, the government must strive to eliminate the root cause of the problem through ethnic integration (ie, via strategic re-colonization, increasing contact and empathy between communities, and economic development).

UNP: A toothless opposition.

The UNP hurtled towards it's worst defeat since the PR system was introduced, and is expected to win only 58-60 seats. They won only 9 electorates, reminiscent of their rout at the hands of the SLFP in 1956. If the UNP is to make a comeback, a total makeover is necessary. It is unlikely that Ranil Wickremsinghe could ever lead the UNP to victory at an election. By not electing some of his cronies (Vajira Abeywardane, Sagala Rathnayake), the UNP voters have also sent their leadership message. Moreover, the so called 'Kepuwath Kola' generation of rural UNP-er are dying out (literally) leaving only the Colombo-centric supporters. Unless new leaders such as Sajith Premadasa, or Dayasiri Jayasekara, are given priority and leadership oppotunities, Sri Lanka risks becoming a one party state.

JVP: Saving face

Many of the readers may disagree, but the JVP has to a certain degree saved-face at this election. They are likely to win 7 seats, which is far better than the 1-3 they were initially projected to win. It seems, apart from their own hardcore cadre, about 200,000 Fonseka sympathizers voted for them as well. Thus, they have saved themselves from political irrelevance for another six years. Until such time their trade and student unions are dismantled, the JVP will continue to play a role in Sri Lanka's political landscape.

ITAK/TNA : The last throw of the dice..

Without any LTTE firepower to back them up, the ITAK(TNA)'s seats in the North and East were reduced from 22 to 14. Moreover, they polled less than 50% in the Tamil heartland of Jaffna, and less than 40% in the other districts they contested. In fac,t with 4000 or so more votes, the UPFA could have wrested victory from the ITAK in the Vanni and Batticaloa districts. With the new census to be conducted in 2011, the number of seats allocated to the North is expected to drop by about 4 (Jaffna -3, Vanni- 1), whilst Battticaloa would likely lose 1 seat as well. Therefore, coupled to the moderating influence of ethnic integration in future years, the influence of TNA is likely to be further diluted in subsequent elections. Therefore, they will be hellbent in their effort to preserve their mono-ethnic fiefdom, by agitating for a federal solution. We call upon the government to frustrate their communal and separatist designs at every turn.

Conclusion

The results of this election will greatly influence the destiny of Sri Lanka in the coming years. If the government lives up to it's great potential, the Silent Revolution of 2010 will far outshine the achievements of the 1956 and 1977 electoral revolutions. Let us hope that all goes well for our motherland, and that our children one day will proudly call themselves "Dedahas Dahaye' Daruwo!"

Some Info on our new Prime Minister, a man of CONSTANT loyalty!

....................
Jayaratne -- the simple rural touch to Sri Lankan premiership

Senior Sri Lankan politician Dissanayake Mudiyanselage Jayaratne was sworn in here as the 20th prime minister Wednesday evening before President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse (L) administers the oath of office to new Sri Lankan Prime Minister Dissanayake Mudiyanselage Jayaratne (R) in Colombo, capital of Sri Lanka, April 21, 2010. Dissanayake Mudiyanselage Jayaratne was sworn in here as the 20th prime minister of Sri Lanka Wednesday evening. (Xinhua)

Known also as Dimu, Jayaratne is a veteran in Sri Lankan politics.

A man from Gampola in the rural heartland in Central Province, the 79 year-old is a favourite among the majority Sinhala community rural folk.

Being the oldest person ever to win the island's premiership, the long wait has been rewarding for the ever smiling and unassuming grassroots politician.

The premiership was just reward for his sticking with the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) through and through -- its best and the worst times.

He became a member of the SLFP on its founding day of Sept. 2, 1951. So no living rivals to his seniority in the party.

He stood with the party during its difficult days in the opposition between 1977 and 1994.

Internal squabbling among party factions saw most of its seniors leaving the party to either form other parties or to join the rival United National Party (UNP).

Jayaratne never left the party and carried its flag almost single handedly in Central Province.

His first entry to parliament was in May 1970 in the SLFP's landslide win.

Jayaratne was a government backbencher until 1977 when the SLFP was crushed in the rival UNP's landslide electoral win.

In 1993 Jayaratne having elected to parliament as an opposition frontliner in the election held in 1989, was made the general secretary of the broader opposition front -- People's Alliance (PA) .

The PA won the election in 1994 by ending the UNP's 17 year rule.

He was rewarded with the cabinet position of Agriculture and Lands.

Subsequently he held senior cabinet positions of Food, Posts and Telecommunications.

The father of two daughters and a son, Jayaratne is known for his Sinhala oratory.

His parliamentary speeches feature witty banter and off-the- cuff remarks which take his opponents off-guard.

A simple rural politician, Jayaratne champions the cause of the downtrodden masses.

/Sri Lanka’s former army chief said his swearing-in as a member of parliament on Thursday was a “humiliation” to the government, which he said had jailed him illegally to crush his political career./

True... Kalawedda should be sent to the zoo not to the parliament... Humiliation for entire nation... not just for GSL... And lets get ready to be humiliated further as long as kalawedda opens mouth...

"The Rajapakses cured and made whole the Sinhala ego, battered and shattered by Indian intervention and Tiger victories. Only a stagnant economy resulting in drastic deterioration of Southern living standards can dent this positive image and turn a majority of Sinhalese against the Rajapakses."

- vesarani gunasekera

their plan is clear. crash the SL economy in whatever ways possible.

what is the remedy????

COLONIZATION.

in other words, boradbasing the economy for all SLs. and securing the food supply which will take care of the most basic needs and the most vulnerable sections.

don't do it and we are stuffed.

now the cat is out the bag, we should not hesitate a day.

i can imagine how desperate vesarani will be if we colonize the north and east enough and racist parties cannot win a bonus seat in any district.

So Gonseka still behaving like Gonseka, this eliminates the option of "being friendly" with MR.

What happened to his bad health? I thought he would come to Parliament in a stretcher.

Seriously something needs to be done.

If he starts using filth and behaves like a donkey inside Parliament can he be kicked out forever, like a no-confidence motion. I have a feeling Raniliam will also vote in favour lol.

That might take to long, so i say convict him in the Court Martial, plus throw in the coup charges.

Anonymous said...

I am still with Moshe on the bumping off option, but that was under the assumption he was "being humble" (or at least pretending to be humble).

That is not the case.

We need to get rid of him.

India does not like him much, maybe we can arrange something with them.

A company (HiCorp? Hikz) provides a special private jet to visit Karunid DMK moron in Chenni or somewhere else (this will make people laugh at him with a double whammy of jet+going to Tamil madu), he gets bumped off on the flight. Pilots parachute out, plane crashes, pilots survives, India says "sorry", all costs (for plane + keeping pilots silent) paid by Government of India, reimbursed by Government of SL.

I am sure it is worth the price.

Well I doubt India would do such a thing but possibility exists, if not maybe a prostitute hole like Thailand? It again would be heavy on the pocket of SL, but it is a worthy investment. In fact if it is Thailand or some other dump in SEA it is easier to crash the plane with pilots using an air traffic controller, then have him bumped off as well. Gonseka bumping off in another country takes a lot of the blame away from SL as opposed to the bumping off happening with in SL.

I am sure we can make him go, tell him he has been invited for a free holiday and weapons deals Hikz.

We need a Mossad type operation.

Involving setting up bogus companies in SEA to lure this gona to it.

In fact could even find out what he's been planning with Blake & JVP this way too.

If the LTTE has succeeded in such a venture so can we.

We definatly need to set up cells of this sort run by MI in SEA and SA. The world's "underground" markets are huge sources of $$$$.

We should tap into it.

Any Aussies here?

An intersting story of a Sinhala Australia name. Badagini. Spelt Baddaginnie.

Baddaginnie is a small town in Victoria, Australia. It is located on the Albury-Wodonga railway line, in the Rural City of Benalla, 12 kilometres south-west of Benalla itself on the old Hume highway. It is situated in mainly flat unforested country, one kilometre west of the Baddaginnie Creek. At the 2006 census, Baddaginnie and the surrounding area had a population of 460.[1]

Although often mistaken for an aboriginal word, Baddaginnie was the name given to the local township by Sri Lankan railway workers building the Melbourne-Sydney rail line in the 1860s. According to local legend, when provisions failed to arrive at the settlement, the Sri Lankan men named their camp 'baddaginnie' meaning 'hungry'.

"Australian Places" quote: "The site for Baddaginnie was surveyed in 1857. Its named is believed to be derived form an expression learned in Ceylon by the surveyor, meaning "hungry", as the survey team was without food when it arrived at Baddaginnie".

The town was surveyed in 1857 but settlement was slow, a Post Office finally opening on September 16, 1879.

It is believed to be named after the Sinhala word meaning "hungry" by the surveyor, as the survey team was without food when it arrived.

George "Joey" Palmer, the 1880s Australian test cricketer died here on 22 August 1910.

This is a damn shame. Old guys should never be given this type of roles. Some one with a good understanding of the, and some one who has people skills should be given this type roles. Never a professor, who by nature are introverts (I am generalizing here). GL looks like a boring old man and don't think he is suitable for this role.

Haha. We always speculated about this name, but never thought it really was a Sinhalese word.

It is about time we claim our independent state in that part of the region.

Assuming that this Jaffna story is true (my initial opinion is it might be on the basis of logistics) it is indeed very sad. This is not One Nation-One People-Single Country policy.

The authorities in Jaffna needs to impress upon visitors to respect the rights of Jaffna people and their sensitivities.

I do not want to restrict influx of people to Jaffna and I think the influx should be encouraged and the same time their legitimate sensitivities are being respected.

The war won by gun should not be lost by stupidity. It is necessary that we create an environment of respect and dignity for all people in which no terrorist war based on war is possible.

More than any constitutional change, more than any devolution of power this change of heart and attitude motivated by the initiative tof the Government will go a long way.

The Government should not yield to any political demand of Tamil representatives yet the Government on its own initiative should act on these things by putting advertisements on TV etc.

Even if the change of attitudes take time to occur, genuine, consistent and persistent effort will sooth their hearts.

If we want to live together we need to respect one another. No subjugation or no supremacy what so ever.

National Freedom Front Leader Wimal Weerawansa yesterday voiced his displeasure over the denial of a National List slot to his strongman M. Mussamil.

The UPFA had agreed to appoint two NFF MPs from the National List, but on April 20 after a secret meeting with with Basil Rajapaks, Ministers Dallas Alahaperuma and Maithripala Sirisen, UPFA General Secretary Susil Premajayantha had deleted Muszmil’s name without the consent of the NFF, Weerawansa told the media. He said he had contacted Basil Rajapaksa, who promised to bring the matter to the notice of President Rajapaksa the following day. However, no tangible response from any one had come in favour of the NFF.

Of course, Sinhalese and who ever is going to Jaffna should be educated about cultural sensitivities. It is the duty of our Established papers, news organizations take up this issue and educate the public.

Thusitha said...

This is not an easy task, but since we have reached somewhat normalcy in SL, Solutions to problems in Jaffna should be given priority.

More companies in Jaffna means more employment opportunities for all communities and more ethnic integration.

Around 200,000 young persons in Jaffna are unemployed

Around 200,000 young persons in Jaffna are unemployed and the government needs to take urgent remedial action to resolve the problem, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industries Yarlpanam K. Poornachandran said.

He told The Island on the sidelines of the inaugural Jaffna International Trade Fair, which concluded on Tuesday at the Jaffna Central College, that unemployment and issues such as the high cost of living, have to be speedily addressed, if the end of the war was to be meaningful.

Yes Thusitha well coordinated and genuine propaganda asking people to respect Jaffna sensitivities will go a long way.

For this to happen it must be genuine and even a subliminal tone of supremacy should not be their in the advertisements. It should emphasise dignity, equality respect and value of all people.

War won by sacrifices should not be lost by negligence or by inactivity.

Maybe a starting point would be our good people at defence.lk site. Hopefully lot of Sinhalese still go to that website. If someone can write an article in there and then push papers like Island and Divaina to propagate it as well.
Right now, this kind of issues should be taken up by TV stations as they are very topical our our nation.

Jaffna and Sinhalese going there:

These "cultural sensitivities" are bogus. They are just an excuse made up to stop Sinhalese going to Jaffna.

Do they show similar sensitivities to us? No. If they are so bothered why did a million of them jump on the opportunity to go to the West? Would their sensitive culture be more protected in a totally alien environment?

Shows you who the real racists are.

Guy,

I am very disappointed with new cabinet and some recent decisions taken by MR/UPFA, because:

1. Only one tamil (DD) in the cabinet.

2. Min. of Media for Maru-win

3. Highly 'profitable' ministries for well known thieves (ex. raththaran: Ports and Aviation, Nimal Siripala: Irrigation & Water Resources Management, Jeewan: Telecom)

4. Well performed ministers didn't get got ministries (Dullas)

5. Recent actions against NFF (NL, UDA)

I hope this cabinet is temporary and will reshuffle in Nov. (That is the only hope)

Anyway, I like this:

Jaffna and Cultural Sensitivity.

Regardless it is Jaffna or Colombo or Mathara, people needs to behave. I have seen rowdy crowds in places. That is something we should stop in all parts of the country. When we go to Jaffna, we should behave in the same respect and dignity we show in our hometowns. That is basic human decency anybody should follow regardless who and where we are.

However, if I go to Nagadeepa and stop on my way to eat a meal is not a part of cultural sensitivity. If I dress and behave in the same decent way I dress and behave anywhere else in Sri Lanka that should not be a problem to the people in Jaffna

Over the last many years, what most media orgnisations went on and on about 100 ministers... that number was played out loudly and repeatedly to ridicule MR. Although none of them mentioned some of the 100 were state/deputy ministries and did not have power or resources (minsters just by name). Now that 37 ministers have been sworn in, the media have just realised that there were only 50 ministers in the past! The below sentence is from a reuters report! Brilliant!

'slightly smaller cabinet but kept other key ministries himself. Rajapaksa retained the defence, finance, ports, aviation and highways portfolios in a cabinet cut to 37 from 51. '

I guess this is what is called free media! I hardly remember any article mentioning 51 in the last five years... it was always 100 plus!

I just cannot believe this man. This is a grown up 59 year old with 40 years of military experience behaving like he was some child constantly throwing his toys out of the pram. I recently read an article by Rohan Gunaratne (Sri Lanka’s most celebrated/acclaimed anti-terror/defence analyst) where he says that the greatest war hero in Sri Lanka is Gotabaya Rajapakse, and most of Gotabaya’s achievements cannot be spoken about in public, and therefore nobody knows about them. This statement is surely true, but it is best that Gotabaya’s achievements remain that way too. Because being in army service is not something good officers boast about. Being an army officer is a position of absolute honour and dignity, an honour that you die for. An honourable position that says you are ready to defend your King and country at all costs even if that means laying down your life for your nation. SF has no honour, because he has been manipulated by others to deceive the country and the very people he once protected. SF is now proving dangerous to the nation as he has lost all honour, and is now only interested in achieving personal gains through deceit and treachery. Honestly this man is full of crap and should be dealt with by a military court. People of Sri Lanka should be made aware of all his crimes, he should also be charged with treason and then, he should be removed from parliament. Let him go to America with his green-card to go pay tribute to his best mate Robert Blake."

Outgoing Foreign Affairs Minister Rohitha Bogollagama has said he will continue in politics and help President Mahinda Rajapakse achieve the nation’s goals both locally and internationally despite losing the recently concluded General Elections. He says he will continue helping without asking for a post.

Speaking to Daily Mirror online, Bogollagama said that he would not give up helping the nation and would continue his political career.

When questioned if he would ask for a post from President Rajapakse, Bogollagama said that he would never stoop to such a level. “I have never asked for posts in my life. The only thing I have asked for is votes from the people,” Bogollagama said.

Bogollagama made a farewell trip to the Foreign Ministry today just at the time Professor G.L. Peiris took oaths as the new Foreign Affairs Minister in front of President Mahinda Rajapakse. (Daily Mirror online)

I think this was discussed, or the following article was linked by someone else previously. CR talks about the 5 hub concept. The concept calls for SL to be a hub for these 5 things:

Naval and Maritime
Commercial
Knowledge
Aviation
Energy

And below are the people who are in charge of each corresponding hub (corrections welcome) -

Naval and Maritime - GR
Commercial - BR
Knowledge - Bandula Gunawardena?
Aviation - ??
Energy - CR

With GR and CR I can be confident that at least 2 of the above will become realities. And probably BR will also deliver.

Also, it would make more sense to have the Petroleum and Energy under one portfolio with CR. He has some great ideas in that article about making SL an energy hub - and it is great that he has got that portfolio.

Any other thoughts on this?

Colombo Establishment has subjected hundreds of senior Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) cadres in its custody to confess to alleged accusations of war crimes, promising that a general amnesty would be granted sooner to those who confess, informed legal sources in Colombo told TamilNet Friday. The move, backed by Indian advice, comes as the Rajapaksa government secured majority of seats in Sri Lankan parliament. Concerned legal sources urged Diaspora Tamils to take meaningful action in arranging legal assistance to the victims through independent and reliable sources without allowing Indian or Colombo backed legal practitioners to victimise the detained cadres."

they are doing everything they can to RELEASE SUICIDE BOMBERS, etc.

there is no evidence to implicate them in war crimes.

the ONLY evidence will be own confessions.

if they don't confess which is what is going to happen, they will not be convicted and get away!!!

lovely!!

that is why repeatedly warned of this situ for the past 1 year.

we could have eliminated these cadres as we did with so many in various "battlefields".

the country is going to pay HEAVILY for this blunder.

GR said the judicial system MUST appreciate the danger and take appropriate action recently. what bullshit is that???? the judicial system doesn't take advice from the defence secretary!!! they have to follow the legal process using evidence. no evidence ------> no conviction.

at least now (it's very late now) gosl should put its act together and DENY PROPER LEGAL ASSISTENCE to these buggers. stop any die-arsepora lawyers coming to SL to take up their case. force prominent lawyers (if they are going to appear for them) not to represent them.

ok, now my politically correct fellow bloggers will bombard me with BS but that cannot ensure national security.

other coutries take national security SERIOUSLY!!!!

after the flop, GR will blame the judiciary!!! what a joke!! he should blame himself.

but practically, that means, a BIG fallout between SLA guys and ppl in the north. thereafter the HUMAN TOUCH will not be there. ultimately it's the finer aspects that matter and that will be lost. hatred, suspicion and a "don't care attitude" will come in between SLA and ppl in the north.

that makes its IMPERATIVE to maintain ARMED EPDP cadres to ensure public support on finer things.

only a VERY FEW idiots behave disrespectfully. but you cannot expect them to follow all the tamil-only traditions. actually such a requirement is not there for foreigners visiting jaffna!!!

we should also appreciate the fact that MOST ppl in the north don't like ppl from another race (same as that of SLA) coming to their area in large numbers. they have been living in MONO ETHNIC communities for all their lives and they are not used to anything different.

LTTE's muslim and sinhala genocide in the north has come to haunt integration even after the LTTE.

Notable omissions from Sri Lanka's Cabinet and the panel of Deputy Ministers

ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Apr 23, Colombo: Several notable persons have been omitted from the Cabinet newly appointed by the Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

One of the most prominent absentee is Ceylon Workers' Congress leader Arumugam Thondaman who held cabinet portfolios in all parliaments since 1994. However, CWC national list MP Muttu Sivalingam has been appointed as the Deputy Minister of Economic Development under Minister Basil Rajapaksa.

Former Science and Technology Minister Tissa Vitharana who represents the leftist Lanka Samasamaja Party has also been omitted from the Cabinet. Sri Lanka Communist Party has been given one Cabinet portfolio and a post of Deputy Minister for D.E.W. Gunasekara and Chandrasiri Gajadheera respectively. Communist Party elected one MP and it was given a national list slot too. Samasamaja Party also won one seat and Vitharana was appointed to parliament via national list. He was the Chairman of the All Party Representative Committee that the President appointed to seek solution for the ethnic problem.

Jathika Hela Urumaya that won two seats was given a national list slot as well but only former environment minister Champika Ranawaka was given a Cabinet post. Many expected Ven. Athuraliye Rathana Thero would swear in at least as a Deputy Minister.

A number of prominent figures of the ruling coalition contested from Kandy district have not been given minister posts citing a disciplinary investigation that is underway regarding the election malpractices in Nawalapitiya electorate prompting the Election Commissioner to summon a re-poll. Former cabinet Ministers Keheliya Rambukwella and Sarath Amunugama are among them while S.B. Dissanayake and former non-cabinet Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage that topped the preferential votes in the district are expected to be given minister or deputy minister positions.

Former non-cabinet minister Naveen Dissanayake, a son of late United National Party stalwart Gamini Dissanayake, was also omitted from the panel of Ministers and Deputy Ministers.

Meanwhile, political analysts speculate that there will be few more additions to the Cabinet in near future.

I approve of this.

1. Defence MUST be under him as his FOREMOST responsibility is to assure the security of the nation.

2. Finance is ESSENTIAL to securing future growth, and his stature are President can help ease international loans as in the recent past. MR was the KEY to getting the Chinese, Iranian and Libyan loans in the recent past when the West wanted to use that lever to humble Sri Lanka.

3. Ports, Aviation and 4. Highways are the KEY Ministries for HIGH PROFILE INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT. The President will be able to cite these Infrastructure Developments as His GOVERNMENT's CONTRIBUTION to National Transformation and Development .. in future elections as well.

By taking charge of these FOUR KEY Ministries, he has assumed the responsibility for keeping his promises to the Nation. If things go wrong .. it will be his baby, as well.

EXCELLENT! Deviyange' Pihitai!

Tiger Lover Mano Ganeshan Blows His Top! Hooooray!

The TRAITORS are falling out!

..............
Irate Mano calls UNP leader ‘treacherous opportunist’

By Shamindra Ferdinando

Defeated UNFcandidate Mano Ganeshan yesterday accused UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe of having deprived him of a National List seat in violation of a pre-poll understanding between them.

In a brief interview with The Island, an irate Ganeshan called Wickremesinghe a treacherous opportunist, who had turned his back on the Democratic People’s Front, which was at the forefront of an anti-government campaign.

The former Colombo District MP said that the UNP had wanted him to contest from the Kandy District to boost the morale of Tamil voters there.

The UNP secured nine National List seats. Party sources told The Island that none of the losers had been accommodated through the National List, though many felt that Vajira Abeywardena and Sagala Ratnayake should be considered for National List slots because they had failed at the April 8 election. Defeated candidate, A.J. M. Muzammil, too, made a desperate attempt to secure a National List slot.

"Although I knew it was a futile exercise, I joined the fray," Ganeshan said. Responding to a query, he said that he believed it would be possible for him to enter parliament through the National List. He said as a constituent partner of the UNP-led United National Front, his party should have received one National List seat. But, unfortunately Wickremesinghe had reneged on his pledge and accommodated R. Yogarajan, formerly of the Ceylon Workers Congress (CWC).

Ganeshan said Yogarajan had joined Opposition presidential candidate Gen. (retd) Sarath Fonseka’s election campaign at the last moment.

The DPF fielded two candidates in Colombo and one each in Kandy and Nuwara Eliya at the April 8 general election. Mano Ganeshan’s brother, Prabha, was elected to the seventh parliament on the UNP ticket. Ganeshan said his party would hit back at Wickremesinghe.

Asked whether his brother would function as an independent candidate, Ganeshan said that they were in the process of discussing their response to what he called Wickremesinghe’s treachery.

The DPF has two members in the Western Provincial Council, one in the Central Provincial Council and four in the Colombo Municipal Council.

Yogarajan said he had quit the CWC in November last year and thrown his weight behind Fonseka’s campaign. He contradicted Ganeshan’s claim that Wickremesinghe had accommodated him on the National List slot at the expense of the DPF. He had received the National List appointment as a member of the UNP, he said.

Another constituent partner of Sri Lanka opposition quits over National List

ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Apr 23, Colombo: Another constituent party of Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party led coalition has decided to leave the United National Front (UNF) over the national List slots.

National Union of Workers (NUW) led by P. Digambaram has decided to leave the UNF following the denial of a National List slot to the party.

Digambaram told the media yesterday (22) that the NUW has decided to leave the UNF since the opposition alliance had gone back on its word and failed to give a National List slot to the party as agreed before the election.

However, the party is yet to decide any future course of action. For the moment he has decided to sit as an independent member.

Digambaram also told the media that it was not possible to crossover now as the government had got a huge number of seats.

However, the government is still six seats short of the required 150 for a two-third majority.

During his speech in parliament yesterday, Digambaram said he would support all the positive measures undertaken by the government for the workers in the country, but would remain in the opposition.

Digambaram was elected to parliament from the Nuwara Eliya District from UNF with the highest number of preferential votes.

[MR may give some of these to Kandy guys.]

True .. kandy lamissiyanta denna ona wei!

I would like to see Wimal Weerawansa to be allocated a couple of National List seats for his NFF. He is disappointed and is complaining about that.

To my mind, there was NO OTHER POLITICIAN who fought so hard on behalf of the Nation, the UPFA, and MR in the last few years!

The nation owes Wimal Weerawansa much GRATITUDE!

WW is ONE HELLUVA SPARTAN TO HAVE FIGHTING ON YOUR SIDE when everyone else HIDES and QUAKES in fear! MR should remember the SPARTANS.

"Are we supposed to behave respectfully in tamiz homeland? If so exactly how? Did people behave any way different to when they visit another part in SL? Have they violated SL law? or is it tamiz peezaam law?"

only a VERY FEW would have violated ANY thing.

but we have to appreciate the UNFORTUNATE FACT that the north is tamil only.

these ppl have lived 40 years without seeing many sinhala civilians and 20 years without seeing a muslim.

we have to understand them. there is no other option.

now not only sinhalas have encountered problems in the north. recently settled muslims also facecd the same problem. about 3 months ago jaffna newspapers published a new items that one muslim owned eatery in jaffna had served dog meat calling it chicken to tamils. angered by this some muslims set fire to a few shops selling newspapers. this was not reported anywhere bcos govt got it censored at ground level.

e.g. when a helicopter flew over an unidentified tribe in the amazon in 2009, they darted arrows at the helicopter. (obviously didn't hit it).

it's not just the law one can violate by stupid behaviour, but also customs, traditions, practices.

i understand that they cannot DEMAND us to follow their customs. we should NOT. what we should do is to conduct in GENERALLY ACCEPTED DECENT BEHAVIOUR.

even shitting in paddy fields is highly indecent. and ppl in jaffna didn't complain about it much, to their credit.

telling someone to behave properly is always an unpleasent thing to do. but it has to be done.

now there are general misbehavioural issues everywhere in the world.

e.g. when ppl see a thangachchi on a bike they may stare at her. some indecent fellows might even wistle. but that is accepted in societies around the world as TOLERABLE INDECENT BEHAVIOUR. i have seen that in many parts of the CIVILISED world. there is no need to drag race into it.

some MFs in the north act as if the army is going to stay there temporarily. to their misfortune SLA, SLN, police, etc. are going to stay there forever. like it or not.

so it's not only the "vicitors" and the "occupying forces" that should learn others' customs, northern residents too!!!!

rights AND responsibilities.

Latest Tamilnut Joke.

Liberation Tigers’ Ira’naimadu runway used exclusively by Indian Air Force
[TamilNet, Friday, 23 April 2010, 21:10 GMT]
The runway constructed by Liberation Tigers of Tami Eezham (LTTE) in Ira’naimadu in Ki’linochchi has been handed over to the exclusive use of Indian Air Force (IAF), according to sources close to a section of Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) personnel who have expressed their disapproval of this course of action by Sri Lanka government. The area in which this runway is located in Ira’naimadu falls within the High Security Zone (HSZ) and is strictly out of bounds for low ranking SLA personnel, the sources added. IAF officers fly routinely between Tamil Nadu and Ira’naimadu besides training SLAF personnel at I’ra’naimadu, the sources said.

As usual, Tamilnut cant get their story correct like those crocodile nosed SLAF fighter jets shot down by LTTE.

Re: Cabinet in general

- Kandyan ministers [Amunugama, SB, Mahindananda, Keheliya] are kept by side yet to finish teh investigations of Navalapitiya incident. This is why we don't have a media minister [Mervyn is Dep.] which is said to be Keheliya.

- Thonda's ministry is still debated, so he will sworn in later. It wasn't removed, just delayed

- What has happened to Ranjith Siyambalapitiya? He's a shared deputy [shared with Lakshman Yapa, deputy of basil]? I thot he'd get a bigger position.

I am not sure whether MR appointed right ppl for roles. Shuffling is good but some with exceptional talents are moved to wrong areas.

Most critical appointments are FM and Minister of Resettlement.

Re: FM

FM is GL with no depFM. But GeethanjanaG is the dep min External affairs, which I believe as the depFM [No Main min for External Affairs].

FM is a bit of a worry. Firstly let me leave out GG as worthless. Years of lame politics by him has made me think that he'll be mere symbolic. GL is well educated and has respect in all circles of the world. He's a man with capacity to understand matters and sense and feel of required position. A stark contrast to the idiot called Boggles. But GL is NOT a patriotic man. He's yet another parrot of western ideology. Too much of rotten theories like Peace Talks, HRs, etc, Associates with enemies of SL [Like Jay Haan, Pakaya-Sotti etc] so expect so many enemies of SL all over world representing it. This is a great danger.

It depends how well MR controls him and keep him within the right positions. MR will have to investigate his appointments occasionally. Had he been controlled well, he'll do a great job as he has capacity, respect, knowledge, tactfulness and a tone close to "their own" [meaning the Intl Community]. It is a gamble by MR.

MahindaS, the unanimous agreement for FM is kept out, perhaps due to policy that no minister will get anything related to prev post. MS was exceptional in his role before, and I see very little use of him as plantations minister.

Re: Min of Resettlement

Minister of Resettlement is Milroy Fernando with deputy V Muralidaran aka Karuna. Now this is the BIGGEST mistake by MR. Milroy is a Christian minister. Today the most active force in North is the church, half of which consists Tamils. The churches in SL had strong tamil influence and that is ONE reason why they had strong leniency towards separatists. If we do the recolonization today, I expect that church will bring the worst opposition to us internally due to pressure from its priests of tamil origin. Plus they will fear getting "diluted" in majority tamil/christian regions by primarily buddhist sinhala ppl. So, to me this is the End of govt sponsored recolonization

Milroy, being a not-so-active minster, may get bypassed by energetic and out-of-norm kind Karuna. It is highly debatable how Karuna will fare. I do respect and value him, but never trust. He's a high flying kite which lost its string. He has 0 ppl support and 0 ppl representation. How will he handle resettlement, is quite unknown. Will he like Sinhala settlements? Will he block them?

Karuna has no PERSONAL REASON whatsoever to do any of those. He's lost votes long ago. His future in politics is as long as he gets the NL slot.

It assures me that MR gives SHIT to resettlement aka recolonization. Over and out.

Rest of the nitigrities are fine. One fool in the place of another. Shuffling will save some sectors for sometime as these "worms" of our nation need time to settle their blood sucking tentacles, in the form of contractors, commissions etc. Health and Agri, which were real messes before also got some relief.

The huge work load on Basil is summed up into two words, but having two deputies tells you that it will be the only ministry doing some work. Ranjith S will cover Basil's lack of academic knowledge and although unfair for him, he will be a great deputy. That is a good choice.

Everyone talks about Mervyn given media deputy. Well, Mervyn shud not be there in parliament at the first place, so there is no need to debate his ministry. A*sehole will continue his monkey acts and increase them into gorilla acts. I am expecting to see a Kottu kade in closed down Sirasa building at some time soon.

BTW, by whatever means, if Mervyn can shoot Sirasa dead, it is worth. Forget human rights and media rights for a second.

Sujeewa Kokawala said...

Note: Moshe and others, pls do not take my statement as anti-Christian. Me being fully secular with connections to more than one religion, have no need to support any religion. But religion, with whatever god or any belief, is practiced by humans and all the other human weaknesses are with them. There are terrorist priests. And they have power. So as long as religion crosses the borders of national security, I talk about it. And I give rat's care for their right of "preaching" if it is used for other acts or used in unfair ways.

Sujeewa Kokawala said...

For one thing [recolonization] I feel sad. But life is not ending just there.

Govt is banning separatism and homoland. Hooray, a dream come true.

The most most most core reason for terrorist war in SL is that we allowed political parties to freely discuss how to divide country and taht it is their homoland. Simple leissurely ideas that were discussed in Colombo bars and clubes by few elite tamil politicians fed venom intoi their ppl and made the kill themselves seriously denting nation. Had we blocked it then and there, we are all living happily today.

Sujeewa,

Agree with you about GL; He follows orders from above .. to the letter. During CBK's time, GL presided over amending the constitution that essentially would have devolved power to the LTTE .. I was LIVID about that. He saw nothing wrong in following orders then; he was just carrying out ORDERS, like a dutyful soldier.

Therefore, when GL is FM, the ORDERS given to him must be controlled from above to be VERY PATRIOTIC and ALIGNED with the National Interest as defined by the PATRIOTIC FORCES in the country.

Re: Jeevan

He's relatively better. Silent man, but he keeps the ppl of his region supported. Not major development but he makes sure drains and roads etc are maintained. He has a good impression of the ppl. Since he's not acting now, and not famous eeither, I am compelled to believe taht ppl of his region only gave him pref votes. If so it is a hefty % within his region.

Re: Champika

Heard that he writes the Chinthanaya. CR, bar his nationalistic ideology, is perhaps one of the most visionary ppl among SL politics. He's in politics just due to his interest in nationalism, if not he's surely among the esteemed high flying SL academic/professional circle. So he is perhaps the only such brain in parliament today.

But following a blind ideology bars man's capacity. However I like the way he transformed the religious hardliner, conspiracy theorist state of JHU into a party more oriented at patriotism.

MR has a dream for nuke energy and maybe it is the reason to have CR at teh seat. Note taht CR, of all ppl, is capable of achieving Nuke.

Re: Rishard

Alleged thief. Being a thief is OK. But he is alleged with links to passing pussycats from humanitarian villages for money. I will never forgive if true.

This is another piece of shit MR eats every night. Problem is MR's Wanni power is in teh Muslims. Wanni muslims are not aligned with mainstream muslim parties. They are having more faith in Rishard's makeshift party which has presence in Vavunia only. Rishard will loose his value if MR brings some Wanni tamil power into his fold. Maybe PLOTE guys...

10 Nation move to give Somali Pirates the punch.

SL shud try to be a part of this move, voluntarily. SLN can help in many small ways, and SL ports can support the move. Mostly the captured are SL ppl, so in ground battle SL ppl will serve greatly as informants and intelligence.

Most ppl think atht bhuge warships and Aircraft careers will be the force, but for operation like this SLN has more experience and success than any other force.

The gains are hefty for SL in taking part here.

10-nation board okays funds to fight Somalia piracy: UN report

A 10-nation board has approved USD 2.1 million in UN funding for five projects to help Somaliaand neighbouring countries prosecute suspected pirates.

“Piracy off Somaliais a menace to the region and the world,” said UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs Lynn Pascoe, chair of the board overseeing a new trust fund. “Prosecuting suspected pirates is an important piece of the international strategy to combat the problem.”

An international armada of warships has patrolled an area in the north of Somalia in the Gulf of Aden for more than a year in a bid to curb piracy. But countries that have captured pirates have often struggled to bring them to justice due to legal technicalities.

Four of the projects in line for the funding are designed to support institutions in the Seychelles, which along with Kenya serves as a regional centre to prosecute pirates, as well as in Somalia’s semi-autonomous Puntland state and its breakaway region of Somaliland. They will specifically deal with mentoring prosecutors and police, building and rehabilitating prisons, reviewing domestic legislation on piracy and enhancing court capacity.

A media project will help local partners design and spread anti-piracy messages across Somalia. The trust fund was launched in January by a Contact Group on piracy off Somalia. Its supervising board includes 10 voting members: Djibouti,Egypt, France, Germany,Greece, Kenya, the Marshall Islands, Norway,Somalia and the United States. There are also three non-voting UN bodies: the International Maritime Organisation, the UN Office on Drugs and Crime and the UN country team for Somalia.

Meanwhile, the UN Security Council was expected to approve next week a Russian draft resolution urging a stronger UN mechanism to ensure effective legal action against pirates caught off Somalia’s shores. The text would direct UN chief Ban Ki-moon “within three months to prepare a report outlining various options of a stronger international legal system” to deal with the pirates.

Somaliahas had no effective central authority since former president Mohamed Siad Barre was ousted in 1991, setting off a bloody cycle of clashes between rival factions. – (AP/NDTV)

OneNation,

The danger of Lib Dems doing well is that in a hung parliament, they may throw their support behind Labour (idealogical similarities). Or Labour may throw their support behind Lib Dems!

Conservatives are less likely to appease Ealamists than Labour. But there will be some pressure as always - see TamilNet lead story.

It is better for SL that Conservatives do well even if they don't get an outright majority. Better to keep Labour totally out. Labour's election manifesto calls for war crimes investigations in SL! See extract below:

We strongly support reconstruction and reconciliation in Sri Lanka. We
believe that both the LTTE and the Government of Sri Lanka must be held to account for the loss of civilian life, and we will continue to urge the Sri Lankan Government to fulfil its commitment to a full and fair
investigation into war crimes
committed in the final months
of the civil war.

On the positive side, lots of Brits are fed up of Gordon. On the negative side, Nick Clegg the Lib Dem leader has had a phenomenal boost in popularity since those darn TV debates. I hope Brits realise that by voting for Lib Dems, they may get Labour back in a position of power!

Another negative is that many migrants (including SLs) may vote for Labour because in the recent past they have been seen as migrant friendly - sometimes mistakenly me thinks.

Someone recently commented that the oft quoted figure of 100+ for the Sri Lankan cabinet included deputy ministers etc. By that same logic, Britain is not too far behind!

Equivalent to Sri Lankan Ministers are the Secretaries of State.

Each Secretary of State has several Ministers to look after several areas e.g. Lord Malloch-Brown's responsibilities included South Asia, and therefore he visited SL - but his boss was Miliband.

All 3 parties are anti-SL and pro-die-ass-pora. Do not expect them to help Sri Lanka. While Conservatives may or may not curb diaspora activities within SL (in terms of security of the white population relating to credit card crime, social benefit abuse and reduction in asylum seekers) personally we don't need that. Die-ass-pora activities throughout Western countries deeply angers the white populations, of course suddha's being suddha's will always lecture "little brown people" and think doing so is their right.

Rumour has it Tamilia plans on created their own Tamil parties based on race and promotion of anti-Sinhala sentiment plus glorifying LTTE violence in the future, to get their own MPs and barter around who the MPs side with (currently they are “auctioning” their vote block).
Recently some Tamil OPA chappy in Croydon was "investigated" for this but then was allowed to proceed since his actions & party were anti-Sinhala so they were okay. But plus side is if Tamilia form parties like this it will give a better idea of what they are like. It will be the TNA in the UK and elsewhere in West. Just wait till they start saying "we are superior to Sinhalese, Africans and Arabs" and then brag about their "educational performances" (they have some "think tank"/NGO group already with a name that sounds universal -so no we Tamiz in the title- but it is filled with Tamils and boasts how intelligent Tamils are based on their own figures lol).

The white world will be furious. Suddha does not like others proclaiming themselves to be superior to someone else. All coloured people are inferior to suddha.

Now while SL has allies in the Conservatives (like Liam Fox) there are more anti-Sinhala types (such as Hague who will be Foreign Secretary) and they as a whole love to play “full imperial” so do not expect a change or sudden improvement, things will at best stay the same as with Labour or potentially get worse.

Now on the twisted side it is in fact in SLs best interests if Labour or Libdems actually win the election (or there is a hung Parliament). Labour & Libdem policies will send Britain crashing down completely. Already Labour has achieved this by throwing UK into debt and over running it with ethnic minorities/immigration policies that outrage the white population yet they still like Labours social benefit systems which they scam (as do the minority populations). Their “social engineering” projects have blown up in their faces but Labour & Libdem being closet communists will continue with their goals of re-engineering Britain with “multi culturalism”, “political correctness” that the white population hate but have become to lazy to actually fight back. The liberal policies of Labour have also created a massive brake down in white society referred to as “broken Britain”.
If you spend plenty of time reading through British papers you can see all this clearly.

Conservatives want to reverse the trend, mend “broken Britain”, fix the economy and make Britain “great” again. For SL’s sake we do not need that.

The thing is we know where we stand with Labour. If Conservatives come to power we will see SL grilled and attacked all over again. Knowing our idiots they will not be prepared for it and SL will be tarred even more than it is now. Labour being seen as a bit of a "clown" devalues some of the anti-SL stuff they have done/said. Conservatives come to power and do the same it would only reinforce the bogus negativities.

So maybe in the short term a Conservative Government might be beneficial to SL (though i doubt this) in the long term it won't be.

Re: Size of cabinet

Many prev govt's had bigger cabinets. JRJ had a special role of District Minister in order to keep another 20+ of his MPs happy [other than that there was no exceptional leadership any of their District ministers show representing teh district]. RP appointed a gang called "State ministers on top of the cabinet minister. CBK also had such.

So why was everyone crossed about no of ministers?

Ministers were a hefty lot in 2006 govt of MR anyway, but we never heard of a big cry those days. Things began with one notable event.

JVP was in opposition and opposition was bigger tahn govt then. JVPers said they have the remote control of the house. GOvt begged to them not to play jokes but to strengthen the govt at a time of desperate need. Amanawansa's baby donkeys played with that invitation too. They were flying for the show off on teh borrowed votes of SLFP [38 MPs].

And that was when govt brokered some UNPers [17 plus few more] in order to direct support them. Most such crossers never did it for teh nation. But the govt had to do it by whatever means.

Parliament crossover does not happen for tofees. Crossers need something bigger so it was an essence for them to be granted a ministerial post. Also I read somewhere that the law that grants the cross stresses that after the cross teh status of teh MP shud be enhanced to a higher role. Or else the MP looses the seat. I cannot confirm this legal clause, but the need to grant them ministries was an essence. This made the UPFA lads unhappy, so nMR had to please them also with something. End result was everyone had a minister or a deputy post. At times when the name deputy made a fuss, MR had to appoint so many ministers to one ministry and only thru the tasks he was ranking them, not by clear designation. 2005-2010 was a time taht the govt had to please a hungry bulk of MPs for the sake of nation.

It made JVP angry. It made UNP angry. JVP thor they had remote ctrl. UNP expected to trick the stupid JVP into a no confidence vote and at once UNP even said next Sinhala year is under our govt. So the cross was their worst nightmare. They were angered and wanted revenge.

So they brought this "too many ministers" issue. In fact it wasn't the num of ministers, but their need to take revenge for the crossing. They kept on saying it, and got their supporters fooled into it.

But whom to blame for the mega cabinet. It was JVP who played with govt and hence national security and made teh govt compelled to grab a portion of opposition. Greedy politicians don't do it for teh sake of country. So it is mainly teh fault of JVP that they tried to play dirty politics in parliament, where they borrowed votes of one party and blackmailed the same with that power.

So you see, the root question is not even about 100 vs 51. In fact it is about the anger against the govt for not falling into teh cheap pitfalls these vicious elements engineered. The only bad effect of the govt's recovery plan [cross over] was the mega cabinet, and the enemies keep on yelling at it with a totally unnecessary energy. But if you look at their backs carefully, you can see atht the scream is not against teh mega cabinet but because basil et al has pushed red hot iron bars in them on teh day of crossover.

Sujeewa,

Re: Size of cabinet

Good thing is that patriotic masses could care less about a big cabinet. Patriotic masses, mainly from the rural Sri Lanka, knew the importance of ignoring all that propaganda when we are fighting a war of survival and territorial integrity. Indeed, it is the rural masses who sent their sons and daughters to defend the nation totally ignoring Paiththiyan Colombans who are/were aligned with terrorists and the western masters. Thanks to the rural masses, we have a peaceful country to live today. Thanks to those rural masses, we have a stable government and a small cabinet. It is not the size of the cabinet that matters, but how much this government can achieve for the people in an efficient manner. The number of ministers does not matter if they deliver and make us prosperous in a very efficient manner. That is the least the government can do for the our bravest and greatest who sacrificed their lives, eyes, and limbs to defend the nation in the darkest hour.

In Canada and the US the presence of conservative/right parties (or the absence of it) have directly affected SL - the presence of the liberals meant appeasement to Eelamists. Not sure about Australia, perhaps Thusitha can enlighten us.

Also, in 2007 in UK a group of Labour+Liberals wanted the LTTE ban lifted.

With all the cultural sensitivity issues and his brother who gave his life for my country, he is generalizing our soldiers as bunch of free loaders.

Below is what I posted.

Educating fellow Sri Lankans about the cultural differences are very important in bringing all communities together.

However, if I go to Nagadeepa and stop on my way to eat a meal at a restaurant is not a part of cultural sensitivity. If I dress and behave in the same decent way I dress and behave anywhere else in Sri Lanka that should not be a problem to the people in Jaffna. Tough luck to those who can't accept the fact that every corner of Sri Lanka belongs to everybody.

Our soldiers paid with their eyes, limbs, and lives to restore our freedom, dignity, and sovereignty. Our soldiers stand equal or better among, Dutugemunu and Vijyaba era heroes. These are the outstanding heroes of our history of 2,550 years. We owe a lot to them. Therefore, we need to be careful stereotyping our great warriors. posted.

UPFA in no hurry to obtain two thirds majority

By Rathindra Kuruwita

The UPFA is in no hurry to obtain the two thirds majority in parliament.
The UPFA hierarchy plans to collect the 150 seats in the House when it is necessary, sources said.
The UPFA coalition received 144 seats at the last general election and they are short of only six more members to obtain the required two thirds.
General Secretary of the UPFA, Susil Premajayantha said that now they were in the process of sorting out ministerial positions before thinking about obtaining a two thirds majority.
He added that the already certain opposition parliamentarians have expressed their willingness to join the government.
“There are MPs who want to join us and others such as the SLMC and the TNA are willing to support us to implement policy. So I don’t think that getting a two thirds majority is going to be a problem for us,” he said.

It’s reported that several UNP MPs have already met UPFA leaders to discuss joining the government. Mano Ganesan’s Democratic Peoples’ Front (DPF), and Palani Digambaran who left the United National Front (UNF) last week, have also expressed willingness to support the government while being in the opposition.

ManoGonz is now without address and seeking refuge. Hakeem and his men too probably want power instead of staying in opposition another 6 years. Same for N'eliya tamil MPs. But TNA MPs have their own goal - tamiz peezaam no matter what they do in short term.

I think the best deal would be to ask them first to support GSL sitting in opposition and join later. If MR take them it may speed up national unity but sinhala nationalistic vote base which is the core of UPFA may get distant.

As we see even when LTTE was there when some UNP and other pro-peace MPs joined UPFA no change happened within UPFA. That's the magic of having a strong camp. So if these scum is willing to change their separation agenda and ready to accept UPFA terms I think MR should accept them slowly but should not trust. The con is UPFA will be out tiger related stuff to attack opposition in elections.

Rest assured that his name will be. To his credit, he didn't try to run for an office. Instead, he did what he excelled, being a warrior. The bonus we got with his decision to not to run for a political office is that he will be watching our interests 24/7.

The greatest thing about GR is that like a real soldier he has honour and decency.

He does not go glory hunting but stays to himself as a humble servant of Mother Lanka.

He has done HUGE amounts of work for soldiers welfare and it is angering the manner in which SoBs in the opposition went around attacking him and what that trash Gonseka said and did and still says and does (Gonseka even targeting the Ranaviru programs with his filth back in November in one of his gon speeches).

These treacherous animals out do whatever Tamilia and the West have done.

It is our duty to protect the name and honour of men like GR, and the rest of our Armed Forces from the various scum within Sri Lanka and out who will constantly be attacking him.

Make no mistake, these criminals will never stop their lies, defamation and attacks, we must be eternally vigilant, aware and ready of what they say and to counter it with the truth and reality they hate so much.
Defending Mother Lanka is something that has no end.

Sujeewa,

Since we discussed about the mental servitude of Colombians towards colonial masters today, you may want to check who is in the photo frame behind the top scum of Sri Lanka Ravi Karunanayake. This jackass perfectly fits in to the Colombian definition.

Re: Pitastharaya's blog article on travelling to Jaffna

Some time back, I also commented in Pitastharaya's blog. There is so many non-connected points in teh story of his friend.

Most notably, why on earth can't the Kovil Committees post the ethics of rules of conduct outside and at places that matter. They were expecting for ppl who has no idea about religion to have a full understanding on their own.

Plus, the story of a military soldier forcing an inhabitant to provide accommodation for his family, can be true, but always there is a possibility that someone has misinterpreted this story. Soldier may have told them in friendly terms [or even granting financial benefits] and the others intentionally or mistakenly miss interpreted this. We know how truth was amended before from that end.

Nevertheless I find it very difficult not to relate the story to the growing and showing Jaffna public's dislike on ppl migration even for holiday.

However the story has some points in it. For an example, water must be a precious commodity there and a lot of people going to Jaffna may cause a water shortage for all. Also some Buddhists wear "F*CK YOU" printed T shirt to their own temple, so I expect little from some individuals on self discipline. I agree our ppl are not perfect.

But then again we suffer with more long term effects of permanent migration of tamils in Colombo. Land prices hit sky high [like water, lands here is a limited commodity], and city is very untidy, some of them have "dirty and disgusting" life style [Note: this is not my opinion] as far as many in south is concerned. For an ex ppl in south hate to see a man licking fingers in a public restaurant. But they are tolerated. Tolerance means that we let them live as they are although we do not agree.

Other than the Water issue, Pitastharaya has not put a single such matter that cannot and shud not be tolerated.

One more thing, the exrtremely high number of visitors are not natural. it is caused by few tour organizers. Trend is made with madness. Ppl are tempted for Nagadeepa like they were tempted for Dolukanda and Nikaweratuiya some yrs ago. It is OK, but motive is to earn money. The line of buses in Wellawatta bound for Jaffna is longer tahn a line of buses to anywhere else at vPettah. Who earns the hefty sums? You think it is Sinhala? Mostly tamils earn out of it, and mostly they're either living or connected to Jaffna. While earning hefty sums of money, why don't you do some educational program on how to behave?

Another thing. It is obvious that for sometime ppl will be rushing to Jaffna. So instead of whining why not be an entrepreneaur? Buy some lands and put up some cheap houses [or even upto Grade One Motels] around teh peninsula. Sinhala ppl can do it. Now everyone including Pitastharaya will start screaming for Sinhala colonization if they do so.

Re: Pitastharaya

[CONTD]

I saw this blog some days back, commenetd and dropped it. But when I see how far that Pitastharaya article has gone and the big ha-ho it created, I have a good feeling and a bad feeling.

It is good to spread the story no matter what we think, as any injustice will be corrected by doing so. Many ppl fwd it -> so that means there are so many hands spread for the wounded northern population and One SL One Nation dream sounds realistic.

But I wonder whether the project eelam is again raising its head on our extended meththa program. We did same in 70s and early 80s till shit hit the ceiling. These may be subtle brain wash for us to abandon recolonization. Or to organize our own against it. For an example, if the same Pitastharaya put a subtly changed article against recolonization, but wrapped in diff claims, will these blocks not forward that too? Path for that is already set by the current article.

In Piss Talk days LTTE opened a Sinhala news paper [forgot name, some "Dedunu" thing] and it was full of peace loving articles. When war started it was suddenly filled with their propa neatly packed. All piss eaters ate that shit piece also. Media is a communication protocol, once signed in, you can push many other things than what you intended.

DPF to consider joining Govt. if invited - Mano

The Democratic Peoples Front (DPF) will consider joining hands with the government if invited, says the party leader, Mano Ganeshan.

He admitted that he had a conversation with the President Mahinda Rajapaksa on Saturday.

He said the president was surprised that he was not selected to represent parliament.

Mr.Ganeshan contested the general election under Democratic National Party (DNP) in the central province and lost. Mr.Ganeshan who was a popular human rights campaigner and an activist for Tamils was also not selected from the national list of the DNP.

Asked whether it was a gesture for him to join the government, Mr.Ganeshan said that at present there is no urgency by the government or his party to such a move.

“The government has a majority of seats but it needs quality. If president thinks DPF has quality and extends an invitation to join the government; it is something to consider,” he said.

Mr.Ganeshan said that there is hardly anything left for him to talk with United National Party (UNP) leader, Ranil Wickremasinghe.

The central committee of his party has decided to suspend dealings with the Democratic National Front and that was the party stand now, DPF leader, Mano Ganeshan added.

“The government has a majority of seats but it needs quality. If president thinks DPF has quality and extends an invitation to join the government; it is something to consider,”

What a golden statement. Politically discarded and dumped into Bluemandel shit load by RW, this ponnaya is still not short of his ego. So the govbt "lacks quality" which it will try to get from the onwe seat party DPF. Hok hok ho.

If Quality is what they have this govt really lacks it.

It is a real test for MR BTW. Obviously the one seat of DPf is very much worthy, but will MR come into an agreement with these proven tigers. Note taht nothing has changed in their end. They are still teh same egostic bastards.

And if MR does taht DPF will not agree for anything but a NL entry for Mano Gonason, which will make a hefty pressure on MR.
