Sarath's Guide of Hero to Zero in 21 Days - General commits political suicide

Two days ago, I was writing a post/comment on current political situation. I have been supportive to Mahinda over the time, and have been predicting his victory. Although the two matters of supporting and predicting are independant many took my posts for political propaganda. Nevertheless I promised that I'd write of any trends towards SF, if any were available.

Two days ago, I had facts to write about. It wasn't a wave as big as 2004 Boxing Day Clean Sweep, yet I met few people, notably non-UNPers, who were swaying for good reasons or bad reasons. General did almost nothing but Mahinda's stray dogs have been scoring for general. Let me note down what I observed, exactly until two days ago.

- People hated many stray dogs such as Mervyn/Hadda attacking general. Some patriorts in MR camp were shaky and kinda moving towards general for sympathy.

- Some lesser aware people were fooled by General's bogus campaign. There was a going rumor that "Executive President can abolish the rank Executive President". This is a blatent lie, but UNP lie machines have done their part. Many were deceived. And that covered the biggest flop in General's manifesto. Right or wrong general had scored.

- General's "something more than 13th" did not hit many minds. Many thought that "General will not betray nation" although he said so. Maybe many people wanted to give him a second chance.

- Defection of a top class political mastermind cum power hungry scum, S B Dissanayake. We all know he's like a compass turning towards power. I believe MR did the biggest mistake. For the short time goals he created the biggest risk for him - a Deva Datta among his ranks. Many ppl said that they don't want S B in ruling party, hence General gaining few votes.

- Scum S B calling General a "man like an animal", for which even I felt so disgusted.

- General's posters have been damaged or pictures are deformed. These kind of arrogant and stupid behavior taking every credit away from Mahinda.

I felt that at least few thousands from Mahinda's camp would have crossed.

And just when it was most critical, SF shot in his own butt and threw shit all over the house. First he made his remarkable comment on GR granting shoot-at-will commands against so called surrendering big Pussycats. Then he tried so synthetically and impractically to cover his nakedness leaving some endless questions in the mouths of many foreign parties.

Today, everything as two days ago, makes no sense. I need to rethink on my post. Few facts that arrived in.

- General did his first major betrayal. No matter what bad treatment he received, he is beyond all freedom to issue such news, had it even been true. There is a code of conduct, or ethical bond not to put the men of his previous command in trouble.

- And then he tried recovering, but simply told us that he, then Commander of Army, happened to believe in rumors about his own junior ranks as stated by some stray journalist [who had no guts to write it in public]. This is an utter mess.

- Imagine Gotabhaya Rajapakse ordered this killing of the leaders, bravo, the way to go.  Had we left the trio to get away, today the pussycats will be running under their command, and many 100s of soldiers civilians and pussycat hostages die on every passing day.

- Why should we allow a free passage for some masterminds whom scrificed poor school chrldren as cannon fodder? What assurance do you have that they are not using the white flags to launch a major attack? Why so late for surrender? So wasn't it so great if Gota ordered this, instead of allowing white masters to help pussycats once again?

General just told the whole nation that it was Gota, not him, who held a firm hand against Pussycats, hence winning the war for us. And he lost almost all of his worth in saying so.

And right now, I see a major shake in the patriotic support base of SF. For the first time, most initial supporters are considering their support. Most people who gave him a second chance for "more tahn 13th" are in the mood of deserting him.

It was all lost in one shot. Unless Mahinda's stray dogs score another own goal for General, this will remain the biggest damage by far to his campaign - an almost political suicide. Lots of damage control going, mainly with JVP who has better sense than UNP/Mangala, but little too late. Sunday Leader leads the damage as usual.

It is very non-defence like to discuss the porgress of Presidential capmapign here. But it is all the more defence related when a supposed to be responsible former commander betray his team with true or fake stories like this. As long as Army is taken for political mileage, the matter is defence related, and of the highest interest of national security.

And it is no longer common political mud slinging. What should await the General is a case in court for treason. Whatever you did for nation does not suffice to save you after this level of betrayal.

Dont try your con arts here..13+ is Federal..13 amendment already made the constitution semi-federal via land and police powers...Mahinda can an will withstand foreign pressure and craftily maneuver..SF will either go headfirst and make a mess of it or he will succumb for the sake of saving his own skin..

The only thing he will empower is the wealth of Danuna and whoever the lucky bloke who ends up with the other daughter..When CBKs time was over, she went..Even if MR loses he will go graciously..BUT SF will never go, even if he loses a subsequent election (i.e. 2016)..WE will become a South American banana republic, with a USA-backed military dictator..

Moshe,

There is a few things we can do about the Northern Vote and Referenda..MR must include in his revised chinthanya, the right of return for the 120000 muslims and 50000 Sinahlese cleansed from the Northern Province..it must be clearly spelt out that this is an essential component of any future solution

Diyasena,

Are you a former soldier or a military strategist?

Was Prasanna Silva in the same group as Brig. Chandana Rajaguru of "Go forward Johnny, Fall back Fonny" fame?

Then a whole lot of questions come to my mind but I will refrain from asking any of that. May be I will reserve these questions after the PE and if you folks are still operating this blog.

I wish to state that Sinhala people are an intolerant lot. My pen name is "Max Headroom" and just because you are upset with my thinking/views, you call me "Min Headroom". Folks you have to be tolerant now that Sinhalayas have given LTTE a telling send off into oblivion.

I am a Sinhala, Buddhist but I am very surprised that you do not respect another Sinhalaya simply for the reason that my thinking is not in line with your thinking.

My apologies for the personal affront..Lets just say I know Fonny well enough to know that he is not presidential material..Agreed he did a good job as army commander, but he was not irreplaceble..There were many others who could have done the job as well or even better..BUT what if it was ponil or joli seeya in the presidency..would the war be fought to conclusion then

Diyasena said...

And go easy on the generalizations, "We in Sri Lanka", "You Sinhalayas"...The LTTE may have been kicked into oblivion, but the eelam campaign is still alive..So until it is made irrelvant like Khalistan, us Sinahalayas and we in Sri Lanka should be on guard..

Remember Ranil Wickramsinghe, Mangala Samaraweera and even Wickramabahu Karunarathna are Sinhalese.."Kammana wasalo hothi, Kammano hothi brahmano"

Srilankan,

There is a very substantial chunk that MR will lose. These are the votes of the poor peasant Sinhalese Buddhists in rural areas whose basic rights have been denied by provincial councillors and government servants due to corruption.

Have you ever been rural Sri Lanka. If not visit rural side right today, now. Talk to a few "rural" citizens in the tour. Only then you will realize how stupid you are.

Miss Information said...

Here is the path to UN sponsored Sri Lankan war crime tribunals both so far trod as well as to come.

*********

We start with too many unchecked egos looking to keep a grip on power post-war.

After coming to terms with the true scope of MR's precipitated and tacit corruption SF goes looking for bigger rewards and is not only denied but humiliated (at least in his view) with the response.

SF decides to play a game of chicken with MR and his coterie by running against MR.

Both sides start to increase their war of words to the point that SF drops a bombshell in an interview with the Sunday Leader and ups the game of chicken by implicating both civilian politicians and senior Military commanders in war crimes.

(For the record... this scribe is not certain how, in the heat of battle with a ruthless enemy sworn not to be taken alive and proven to have utilised civilian suicide bombers to attack and kill, one can determine the real intentions of such an enemy "surrendering". If I were commanding men in this situation their safety would be far more important to me than the safety of the enemy leadership and their respective family members. It would be inexcusable if somebody allowed troops to die by yet another LTTE terrorist ruse. Unless the President was on the line saying "DO NOT shoot" I would take zero chances… but this will not be the meat of any War Crime trial though it makes for a splashy headline that gets world-wide attention.)

Besides horribly undoing his own position, SF has to face the inevitable accusation that he was involved with white van activities (a rogue operation of his own doing no doubt) by MR and his gang.

The next jump is the investigation into SF’s illegal activities and his subsequent arrest for what will be a seemingly longer and longer list of illegal and unpatriotic activities before and after his retirement.

When it comes to this stage we get to see if…

A: SF refuses to surrender to police, the subsequent potential of his forced arrest… and all of the dangers that come with that.

B: SF bolting the country for safer pastures (the US anybody?) from where to start his stepped-up releasing of war activities that serve to further implicate MR and GR in a sea of scandal. He may do this after making a sweetheart deal with the Americans and the World Court in the Hague so he can testify against the brothers and thus win a war of attrition in which both sides and, worst of all Sri Lanka, lose.

Neither of these jokers is fit to run the country and the people deserve much better.

To make matters worse this is a self-inflicted wound by two men whose greed, inflated egos and avarice will do more harm to Sri Lanka than any so-called puppet or third party could ever dream of.

}{MI}{

P.S. Let's not forget MR already has a guaranteed war criminal in his cabinet who still has his own fiefdom in former LTTE territory!

SF's fundamental right application for more security thrown away by supreme court. End of Sarath and permanent rule by MR and family. Why cant Sri Lanka produce a proper leader?

Sam Perera said...

binu-rox,

Please tell me how a permanent rule is going to happen? We had JRJ and CBK as two term presidents but end of the 2nd term they had to go. That is part of the constitution. Now in the case of JRJ, he had very strong UNP parliament and CBK had a weak SLFP parliament. In both cases, after the second term, their presidential life expired. MR is no different than his predecessors. However, nobody can steal his position in Sri Lankan history as one of the greatest leaders who saved the country from invaders, terrorists, and their stooges.

Scum of the Day

Ranil Wickramasinghe

Sri Lanka's main Opposition leader Ranil Wickramasinghe today sought an explanation from Colombo on former army chief Gen Sarath Fonseka's allegation that some surrendering LTTE leaders were killed on the orders of the government.

The scum who ridiculed everything our forces did to eliminate LTTE terrorists, is going further asking why LTTE leaders were killed. This low life scum sure has a major desire to worship the terrorists and insult our efforts to eliminate the terrorists. Simply put, this is a social cancer. It is upon the people of Sri Lanka to send this traitor to unmarked graves of Sri Lanka.

1. Gonseka saying Gota ordered SS to shot surrenders,
2. We have been misqouated,
3. FJanz confirming no misquoting, its his own words,

we can conclude

1. Fonz is a liar. He lied to SL to take revenge from GR/SS at the expense of entire country.

OR

2. If Fonzs first statement is true then his correction is a lie. But then GR/SS has violated int. law so they should be hanged at Hague and Fonz exposed military secrets so he should go to jail in SL.

3. Join UNP and become UNP leader and opposition leader.
4. Work for USA as their puppet/agent to take revenge from GR and destabilize SL (for US)

What MR should do after winning?

1. Arrest Fonz and sue
2. Call GE
3. Name PM candidate (SB?)

Its good for MR to delay hinting who will get nominations for next PE as much as possible. As once you name next EP candidate MR will be powerless within his party. MR will probably play around with abolishing EP, amending constitution, running for 3rd term, etc but he need to decide he will name PM candidate or keep it open.

I think in whatever way he will go for revenge... probably working together with USA.. His earlier visit to US should be official starting point.

Patriots,

Have you ever come to think of a scenario where SF strips on political stage to show-off his bullet riddled body. This will generate a whole lot of sympathy votes towards him. For someone who betrayed the nation for political milage this kind of an act is a piece of cake. My bet is the shameless general will do this in the coming days to cover up the damage.

To Diyasena,

Is Barack Obama presidential material? IMHO, the Dynamite Prize should have been given to MR or SF.

You say MR is the greatest President of all time but I disagree on one point - total lack of good governance. He is a good war time President but other than that he has not demonstrated his willingness to go beyond war and do things that would nullify Peelamists afterthoughts about referendums etc. What happened to the APRC? What is this talk about the merger of NE province and Dev Anands 10 point plan? Massive cabinet and "dime a dozen" ministers, with Johnny the latest with three ministeries under his command.

This is the reason a rank outsider is needed in post-war Sri Lanka. SF may be a woefully inadequate man to be the President of Sri Lanka but with Pakistan on the Left and China on the Right and with a few good advisers, he could prove all of you nay sayers wrong.

Now that the war is over, please do not say that there were many others better than SF who could have got the job done. Why did not they make a claim to MR before he appointed SF and what did they do when they knew they were better than him - run away from Sri Lanka! It shows that you do not want to recognize his achievements; his capabilities and his zeal to achieve his objectives.

I'd really like to see how MR would run his second term, if he gets elected.

Why are our people letting Ranil W. live on, if they think that he is a JPB? Why is he being invited to India when GR, BR and LW go to India after getting an appointment?
Is he all that bad and why he is always castigating MR and his Cabinet?

Who else is there to lead SL to a new era, other than MR?

Why did Rupavahini not show the General handing over nominations but showed MR shaking his hands? As Sam Perera says the rural man/woman are all for MR. If that's the case, why a total blackout of the General at nominations.

Reality is not what you saw yesterday but what you see here and now.

DECOY said...

DavidW,

If there is somebody who can, that is not any one of the top scum of Sri Lanka. Just food for thought, Sajith can be a good candidate for 2017. Ranil Wickramasinghe is a national security risk also and he shall be taken out of UNP soon. In any case, he knows where he stands now. That is why he was very afraid of competing for presidency.

I disagree about Hague story. Note that I do not know whether it is true, but let's assume so.

If that is teh case, there is nothing wrong in it. Many warring parties do that. That is why there is always a limited period for surrender. Ppl have such limits to avoid using surrender to get away and continue teh battle, or to use fake surrender as a war tactic to attack.

Gota, had he ordered so, did the right thing in accordance with every other war elsewhere. And if that does not qualify with some convention somewhere, it is time to revise that convention.

I went in detail before about some guidelines of war being set for war between two nations and hence inadequate for war against terror.

Can you justify why I shud vote for SF with all the following weaknesses.

- Betraying SLDF with its top ranks and providing evidence to open war crimes allegations.

- Promising giving something "more" than 13th. Now pls do not get fooled with term "more than". What he interprets [as per his recorded speeches] is something with more legislative power than 13th. Whereas I find 13th has already given too much legislative power.

- Alliance with top scums of nation. No matter what, even if he has no way to contest, he cannot get united with them.

- No proper program after being elected. Exe Prez cannot be abolished by him, nor will he be accepted by opposition. It leads us to anarchy and later on dictatorship

- Prasanna R is well secured by MR. Even in the past there was conflict with Arjuna, but nobody in family took notice.

- Rat-watte son is given a PC ministry. With likely ticket in GE, they may not cross.

- Rat-na-siri is not gonna cross. This is in teh verge he may loose premiership. He finds it hard to keep his politics going if he crosses.

- DiMu is a likely crosser. That is MR's fault.

- Reginald Cooray is almost certainly crossing

- Nishantha Muthuhettigama, who already has crossed

- SB's arrival may create factions in SLFP. But it is unlikely to happen this fast.

- Anura P Yapa made few contradictory statements in some time ago. Yet he's not showing signs of jumping

They can have 1 trillion referendums but it does not mean a thing at all since they don't fall in to SL jurisdiction. After all what makes these kazuthai's to think that we give a rats ass about their wining when we did not a give a rats ass about a 30 years of terrorism to break the country?

Moshe Dyan said...

and vadda-kundi resolution is about self determination for tamil elam!!!

we MUST act now. there is little time left. is there any other FOOLPROOF methid to stop this apart from COLONIZATION?????

i don't think so.

the first argument you will put forward is, so what??? what can they do just by displaying their love to seperate using the UN accepted right of self determination.

india, china, russia are firmly against it and they can't do much.

this argument falls.

although the UN may not approve it, a large number of countries will approve it. they will put diplomatic and economic pressure on SL to GIVE MORE, MORE AND MORE.

SL will have to battle all this BS on a daily basis wasting resources and the moment we rest, we are stuffed.

and don't forget there are traitors among us who will for a green card, a few million/billion dollars betray the nation.

we can't go on firefighting. we have to douse the fire for good by RAAPING the tamil elam kanni with "dirty" chingala, muchlim colonies DEEP inside the womb of tamil elam.

why dirty??? bcos now they have done ethnic "cleansing" of chingala and muchlim makkal.

Moshe Dyan said...

e.g. kosovo is still not accepted by the UN.

but US/EU money is enough to run it seperately.

e.g. south ossetia and abkhazia are not recognised by anyone aprt from russia. but russian assistance is more than enough for them to run a seperate administration.

whill this not happen in SL???

of course it will not in the near future but once US/EU recognise tamil elam's right of self determination (this WILL happen after the referenda) they are one step closer.

thereafter the only avenue they need is just a DAY under a traitor to establish anything that will have TNA/TULF/ITAK/ACTC/PLOTE/TELO/TMVP jokers in it as rulers.

tamil elam established LIKE kosovo, abkhazia, etc.

certainly not like east timor yet.

but as i proved above, that is enough.

sam,

yes. that is why SL too is having a referendum.

of course it is a PE as far as SL is concerned. but remember this SD issue goes beyond SL. in that context, the OUTCOME of the PE in "TE" can be interpreted as a de facto referndum for all practical intends and purposes.

Moshe Dyan said...

MR is in a trap thanks to his delays.

he has to make a choice now. TRY TO win a few more tamil votes from the north by giving more to them (this will have some impact on bahu-siva getting >50%.)

but if he does that he will lose MORE sinhala votes to SF.

the other choice is to stand firm and give nothing and win the sinhala votes more and win the PE. but then more tamil votes in the north will go to bahu-siva (TE).

had he done some colonization, he would be laughing now.

resettling muslim IDPs would begin on boxing day. hope this is canot be done in a month at least.

and count their votes not in putlam, but in jaffna. preferably in BOTH places!!!!!

Right or wrong is subjective. What is right for one person, for one community may be wrong for another person, community. I am not expert on law or international law. But I guess thats the reason to have courts and international court. In court what is right or wrong is determined by judge based on specified method.

You or me can't change law from between nations to war against terrorism. Even such change is needed US will do that after SL case and before Afgan/Isreal case if ever happens.

When it comes to international court its about evidence, arguments, lawyers, witnesses, judges but remember the world is ruled by west. So this will be more than individuals (MR or GR) but affect entire country if there is any deals. Even they proven innocent the di-ass-pora will get a moral boost for renewed peelaam project. Thats why GSL need west to close this case. And Gonseka confirmed its not going to be like that.

GSL has 100+ ministers and many are idiots. GSL stand should have been

1. Denying Fonz's first statement, take action against him regarding first statement

2. Convince public that Fonz is lying to win some tamil votes, take revenge from GR/SS, and such action is a betraying SLA for his personal gain and he is a traitor,

without referring it as exposing military secret.

But obviously, ministers had no time to understand and figure out the logic and related laws.

Adding to above; there may be many more things not known to us but known to high ranks including MR/GR/SF. If it really happened (and even more) GSL may in trouble going after Fonz. That may be Fonz's warning (of course at the expense of nation) for MR not to sling mud at him. An event happened or not is one thing; proving it happened or not is another thing.

If we can assume FJanz is correct then we have golden chance to chose a traitor as our president.

Obama was a senator and a community organizer before that..And if you saw his speech at 2004 Democratic convention (John Kerry's candidacy)and the media/public reactions, lot of people had the feeling he could be a future president..Obama is an eloquent speaker and can deal with criticism..Fonseka on the other hand is bit more like Sarah Palin, good at their old jobs but not the new one's they were running for

And regarding the jumbo cabinet, I reckon Moshe has explained this several time before in DW and here..Mahinda inherited the present lot of parliamentary ministers from the CBK era..And he had to get a lot of shady UNPers and others, just to keep the government stable till the war is over..When MR wins the second term he will be a lot stricter with who gets nominations at the GE and and who will get ministries..Sounds very diasporian, but just WAIT AND SEE (TM)..lol

yes. we are yet to see TRUE COLOURS OF MR when it comes to selecting candidates for the GE.

going by what he did in the past, its likely that he will disappoint many useless pieces of shit.

but mervyn is like a crocodile living on rotten meat. like crocodiles, he too will survive UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.

GR will not enter politics and MR has no intention of elevating chamal. BR will have to battle it out as MR has not shown him any favours politically. NR will be mollycoddled being MR's son. but the remaining 110+ would be others who should be selected on merit b4 sending them b4 the ppl.

given a future of CERTAIN DOOM, a number of JVPers may join MR.

tamil madu politicians might endorse MR but this is a trap. hope MR will avoid it.

1. First claim the inalienable right of Sinhalese and Muslim refugees to return..Resettle them along with the tamil refugees..That will dilute the mono-ethnic Jaffna and KIli and Mula a wee-bit..

2.Military colonies on government land in Wanni and Mannar..These two districts are already a bit diluted and recoverable..

3. Abolish/ amend thesavalamai and encourage, Sinhalese/Muslim businesses to set up shop in the North..

Do not expect any sort of cleaning up from MR. His style of governance doesn’t know the meaning of cleaning up. I will give my vote to MR because of his past service to the country. That service is enormous and worth bit of corruption and new term too.
MR and his family will be thrown into the dustbin in 06 years time if he doesn’t opt to change.

In the same token, I will not trust SF even to give him the first chance. He has to be thrown to the garbage bin at the first chance.

After nearly 24 hours of travel, jet leg, time difference and fatigue, I could manage only this until tomorrow. Sorry, fpr my absence for last 36 hours or so.

diyasena,

kosovo - not quite. serbia also had a presence since kosovo being part of serbia.

south ossetia/abkhazia - certainly no red army. few russian units were there but nothing compared to georgian own troops.

colonization must be RUSHED. of course ppl must be provided with amenities. but there is no need to FIRST CREATE THE janapadas and then bring ppl in. what should happen is bring ppl in with basic ameneties present and let them build their houses, etc. trasport to and from their new places to old places must be arranged until their dwellings are complete.

a generous land allotment (as in the lovely novel akkara 5 by madawala s ratnayake. i read it when i was 12 and it's struck in my head, not just the love story BS.) MUST be made to each family.

TNA/TULF even EPDP will be up in arms. but that is the idea!! any violence means RETALIATIORY KILLINGS and WAR.

this must be done for a united country AT ANY COST.

e.g. even the welioya colonization has been EXTREMELY successful. dry zone, LTTE attacks, manelaru, etc.????? why didn't the ppl run away?? bcos they were making money more than elsewhere.

future colonization must be a bit more planned but the important thing is JUST DO IT.

DSS - an eigth grade failed politician - did a marvelous job. surely the lawyer and doctor must do better. if not for the british who colonised trinco and DSS, JRJ, janaka, we would have been kicked out of north east.

ALL my tamil friends (close to 100) are VEHEMANTLY against ANY FORM of colonization. but they fail to give a proper reason. their fear lies in destroying tamil elam.

i'm very open and aggressive on colonization. i don't call it ethnic integration anymore bcos there is no ethnic integration!! it is upto the ppl to ntegrate IF required to the level they require.

e.g. colombo is a fantastic example of ethnic integration. but don't be surprised there are hundreds of thousands of tamil ppl (not only housewives) in colombo who don't interact with sinhalas. no problem at all. don't ever force them. the mere fact they are living among the sinhalas is peace.

this is what differnciates moshe from other traditional patriots. i'm ready to KILL, etc. for colonization.

it is like going to war in 2005 when there was 'peace'. it was a massive decision but we made it. and war was fought like war. joseph pararajasingham (the link between VP and karuna) was killed at the x-mas mass IN THE CHURCH. this avoided ANY possibility of VP and KA patching up.

we allowed KA to use children in war against LTTE. by doing that we need not move our army offensive units to east endagering the north.

Sunday Leader is against SF. As I said before if they are working for SF the Sunday Leader should have chosen not to publish it and refer the matter to SF's handlers.

Why did Sunday Leader choose otherwise?

I do not know. It cannot be their honesty or their responsibility to people. May be they want to protect RW's place in the UNP and get him elected for President for next time around. This is the only reasonable speculation I can make.

Milinda Moragod made a statement that was amounted to saying Ranil conned the LTTE. May be Milinda did not want Ranil to win or may be he was so desperate seeing how the Sinhalease vote was going he made that statement without thinking fall-out with the LTTE. That is when at the last moment the LTTE ordered a boycott of election.

Personally I am against war crimes and torturing a terrorist for just for revenge or satisfy anger. This is not because I think or I think terrorists have human-rights or they deserve compassion but if I choose to advocate torturing a surrendees and killing of them then it defines my character and my nature. On the other hand alive VP might have been political football decorated with "human rights" for UNP, Mangala, INGO, NGO and Internatioal LTTE and other players. This would have been extremely dangerous for national security. In that if I were at the helm. If I think that the Nation is strong enough then I would choose the judiciary. If I think that the Nation at the moment was not strong enough then I would have eliminated him mercifully. Still I would have preferred for him to go through the humiliation of a public trial if that would have not created difficulty for national security. They are difficult issues sometimes white cannot be distinguished from the black since it is in a grey shade. This is how I personally feel. What ever happened has happened. On the account of human rights of a war criminals (LTTE) I do not want to jeopardise National security. Yet I do not this to be the character and soul of our Nation. If everyone is genuinely for Nation, we could have brought up these for empowerment of Nation. Someday we have to do it for the sake of the Nation. At the moment we need stability. That is why I am backing MR and came to blog again. This is how I feel.

The problem with those people who cry human-rights were silent when Sri Lankans were massacred in villages, mosques and streets. For them it is not human-rights. It is using these difficult issues to oppress a Nation into submission. This itself is a human-right violation. I do not want this to happen.

I will give an example. I am against death penalty since death penalty for me an easy way out for the criminal and the society both. Then I have no problem with death penalty for Ted Bundy. (If you know the character).

Ninja it is MR's due responsibility use all legitimate means to stop SF's coming into power. He should be very careful about his steps. Our Nation is in his hands. I am extremely angry with him his choice of Anarkali and Susanthika. He should not take liberty to act such audaciously.

SF is no answer to these short-comings.

Second Century BCE:

When the Cholas were ravaging our Motherland the Sinhala kingdom was limited to a small area in the South due to very weak leadership. A prince named Gamini Abhaya restored sovereignty by chasing the invaders. He raised an army lead by 10 great warriors. He restored our dignity and backbone. Even after 2200 years, the warrior king Dutugemnu and his 10 great warriors names resonate in Sinhala minds.

Eleventh Century CE:

In the peak of Chola empire the Sinhala kingdom was limited to a small area in the South again due to very weak leadership. A prince named Kirthi restored sovereignty by chasing the invaders. He was protected by a warrior called Budal. Having restored our dignity and backbone, we started walking again with our heads straight up. The warrior king Viyajabahu granted him or his decedents the immunity from death sentence for three times for yeoman service. Even after 1000 years, the warrior king Vijayabahu and Budal's name resonate in Sinhala minds.

Twenty First Century CE:

A man called Prabakaran who portrayed him in front of the Chola insignia was ravaging our Motherland with untold terror. We were about to surrender to Prabakaran due to weak and poor leadership who was ever ready to dance for whims and fancies of western powers who wants to enslave us forever. A leader named Mahinda Rajapakse vanquished the terrorist and sent western apes back home. He raised armies, one land army, one sea going army, and one flying army, of the greatest warriors our illustrious land has ever bore. Just like the times of Dutugemunu and Vijayabahu, having restored our backbone, we started walking our heads up straight. Under the leadership of Mahinda Rajapakse, we learned that we have done things many others believed to be impossible. Once again, we have become an independent nation. Now that we have gained independence, it is the time to let Mahinda Rajapakse develop the nation in the same tenacity he vanquished the terrorists.

Re:SL

SL is pro-UNP but more precisely pro-RW. In broad sense SL is anti-SL and pro-west/INGOs. So they may have decided to back RW as their western agent instead of Fony. Of course, neither SL nor RW care about country's pride etc so they can have no problem publishing such news, expecting damage to Fony's sinhala vote base resulting both Fony and RW remain in opposition. (After PE/GE we can expect race for UNP/ opposition leadership. Being an experienced politician I guess RW planned this with SL.)

I don't know journalists work but if she had a tape and Fony said 'misquoted' he will be in more trouble.

Re:Killings

Yes, if we have strong judiciary with clean, efficient system we could follow that way but we know its not the case. I really don't care how these 3 terrorists were killed. That may be a war crime but need to be done without evidence.

Claim:

MR has no intention of cleaning his party and the system.

In fact, If MR had attempted to clean the system == LTTE would be still ruling North and East

Only after next GE that MR will have an opportunity to clean the system.

Still he will have to be extremely careful. This is a political minefield.

To avoid these mines and initiate cleaning MR needs to put out a well prepared GE/PE manifesto.

He will have to risk impeachment. Slowly creating an environment in three years time he should take this risk and kick out all of his corrupted ministers and MPs and recruit genuine politicians from JVP and UNP?

I ask, where are genuine politicians?

It cannot happen this way. The only way it can happen this.

If he wins the PE with a massive majority, he should forget about his political and persona promises and give nominations genuine politicians.

Before the nominations given there should be a public rally in the GallFace. Each Nominee will have to pledge commitment for impeccable public service. Not only should they have an impeccable behaviour it is their public duty to be seen as they are behaving impecably.

In today's system:

Kick Mervin Thug Today == Mervin the Hero of the opposition one second later

Kick Ravi Karunanayaka today from UNP==Instantaneous patriot

A rotten, rotten system.
If only SF is not in the elcetion, knowing that Ranil would have been politically annihilated,

I would have stayed out of this political clown compettition.

But I fear even the slightest possible win of SF.

So I am compelled to come to the party.

Moshe,

In one of your posts today, you said you don't refer to Ethnic Integration anymore but you are npow promoting "colonization" instead.

I think that is a VERY BIG MISTAKE. Ethnic Integration is the ultimate goal .. one that is acceptable to locals and as well as foreigners when properly presented.

Colonization is ONE OF THE MEANS of achieving the desirable goal of Ethnic Integration .. albeit it the most practical one .. in that it immediately puts different communities in close contact with each other ... which is essential to promoting understanding between different communities. It is easy to demonize people you have never lived with; it is much harder to demonize your neighbor.

Your promotion of colonization as an end itself, has all the NEGATIVE attributes of dispossession of one community by another .. which is indefensible in any forum .., without any of the positive attributes conveyed by the Ethnic Integration as a means of achieving peace and harmony in the country by creating ONE Sri Lankan IDENTITY.

So, I think promoting colonization by itself it a mistake that may boomerang on us; but promoting ethnic integration, with colonization as one tool, with the goal of a achieving a uniform demographic distribution throughout the country, and geared to promoting understanding and trust between communities will be acceptable to all, and legally defensible.

Ultimately, our vision for the future of Sri Lanka MUST PROMOTE EQUAL TREATMENT of ALL COMMUNITIES and PEOPLES.

I forgot to address one of your observations. It could be true that SF is blackmailing the Government (with true or imagined war crimes) so that the Government will dare to expose SF.

The Nation is paramount. GR or whoever they can say goodbye to their USA citizenship. For GR to be able to enjoy USA citizenship we cannot give our Nation to Ego hunger of the Ego wolf-SF.

The Nation will protect GR. GR should renounce citizenship and find another political asylum should the need arises.

The need of the hour is to go after SF with all true facts (Nor slanders or Nor Mercy please).

Rape accusation document does not show what charge is that about. If the government can be clear about this they should come up with more evidence. Rape is an extreme form of human right violation. There cannot be any apologies for such crimes. Why does not the paper directly say the charge is rape if it was actually rape?

This is man's world. A crime against a woman is automatically immune of proper punishment. Sick isn't it? If he is a rapist, then a rapist is on the ballot paper for the highest office on the country. Shame if the accusation, is in fact, true.

Thats after around two decades when one first said so in public and at that time he was called a 'racist extremist' by most in the society. tata,

As I said, colonization is an important part of EI, and will be vigorously pursued as a part of EI, just like "Mahinda Chinthanaya".

But, it should not be called colonization, but as a resettlement and redistribution of of people throughout the country to evolve the country towards the average demographic ratios throughout the country. In that way, you assure equal opportunities to people of ALL communities without discrimination against the majority or the minority communities. You can't do that if you call it colonization only .. ALL HELL WILL BREAK LOOSE!

It HAS TO BE A PART OF EI with the goal of delivering EQUALITY OF OPPORTUNITY to ALL, including the EQUAL OPPORTUNITY of ALL PEOPLE OF ALL COMMUNITIES to settle, and be settled, EVERYWHERE in the country, in numbers that approach the AVERAGE DEMOGRAPHIC ratios of the population as a whole.

An important DESIREABLE benefit of that, of course, is that no minority can concentrate itself in one part of the country, and demand a separate state there, because of RECENT trend in population distributions, ignoring the HISTORICAL presence, and HISTORICAL claims of the majority community, EVERYWHERE in the country.

No one can argue against the Fairness of that towards people all communities in Sri Lanka: Everyone has the right, as a private citizen, to live anywhere in the country, and the government has the right to develop ALL RESOURCES of the country for the best benefit of all citizens.

/Army opposes the Police who try to remove the cutout only of the General

(Lanka-e-News, Dec.16, 2009, 9.10PM) The police group in uniform and thugs who came to remove the cutout of the common candidate Gen. Sarath Fonseka erected at the Printing dept. premises illegally fled the scene when the Army threatened to shoot them if they try to take way the General’s cutout.

According to the information received by Lanka e news,…

There had been cutouts of both Gen. Fonseka and the President at the Printing Dept. premises without any issue. However when the Police came to remove only the cutout only of Gen. Fonseka, there had arisen the conflict.
Later, when the Police and the thugs came in the morning and tried to remove the cutout of Gen. Fonseka, an Army security officer who was there had said, both cutouts shall be removed, otherwise it is an unlawful act, and he has threatened to shoot. The workers who came out have finally removed both cutouts./

* * ** *** **** ***** ****** *******

If true this is serious. SLA has no part in civil issues. MOD must take action against troops who threatened to shot cops. Whatever wrong thing cops did there is a way to complain and deal with it. Still we dont have military rule. SLA should wait until 27.

I know many in SLA will vote for fony, some assume he will set up military junta and these army poddos who has knowledge in politics less than fony's think they gonna be area rulers. My guess is 70% of SLA from lower ranks with their families are for fony. This is 40% more, 30% each for UNP/SLFP hardcore remain intact.

There may be a threat SLA taking over days before, on or after PE. If GR can't control this he should remove SLA from city and give Colombo to SLN, SLAF, and STF.

Sam Perera said...

Not quite Ninja. Lots of folks I personally know are not for Fonseka. After the great betrayal, they are more against Fonseka.

The main point being peddled to vote for SF is corruption and pavul vaddaya.

It is being peddled much much much more than the contribution of SF to winning the war.

The hidden truth behind this is that most UNPers are capitalists. Ranil correctly identifies this mindset in the young capitalist. Hence, gold chains, SMS, etc. etc. Their objective is extreme kamasukallikaanu yogaya with desires to experience all possible pleasures. They do not understand that this not sustainable and will create untold poverty for a large section of the people.

They are probably "OK" that the war ended, despite their opposition, skepticism, sarcasm, humiliation etc. They'll take that. Now they want some liberal opportunities to make huge mounds of money for themselves.

but it cannot be forced and it cannot be brought about without mass colonization.

that is why i have PRIORITIZED colonization.

EI can take place ONLY after colonization.

we were not talking about taking the last LTTE bastion when we were fighting in adampan. of course we had it in mind but our PRIORITY was close the western coast at that time.

i started with EI and i will end the political solution with EI. but for the time being we need colonization so that EI is achievable.

Presidential Candidate General Sarath Fonseka says he will never let down the troops who were under his command even if he has to go before an international court but at the same time will not defend some top government officials who interfered with the military operations./

Good example to understand what revenge means..

Sam Perera said...

Ninja,

I am not sure of what this scum was thinking about top officials. He was the commander of SLA not the Commander-in-Chief. He needed to follow what CIC says. If needed, CIC can control/could have controlled military operations. That is something Scum Fonseka unable to understand.

In any case, he will need not to let down the troops sine he has already dome it in grad style.

SL Patriots here should have fought the war without staying on the fringe or overseas.

You folks should come and govern us.

When I stated that SF's time bome was meant to shut up GR's mouth, you folks were too cocky to acknowledge that.

Just after nominations, SF has made another statement with a slight twist to the first one. The RAW and the South Bloc might not be sitting well in their settees.

But the most hilarious statement comes from Ananda-USA called Ethnic Integration. Just try to do it and see what India will do, to appease Cholas!

If, as you say, 70% of the SLA is supporting SF, let GOSL unleash the CID on SF to see the repercussions. Before GOSL does anything GR, BR and those 100+ Ministers should worry about the health of MR. He may not last the whole hog!

It is regrettable that MR has got into this mess and what more can I say when a journalist takes Dullas to task at a press briefing - unheard of yesterday but it is happening today and it will get more tomorrow when people in Sri Lanka find that there is a shift away from ........... I will leave that to be filled by you folks, on my account.

Now now, you are parroting about MR's health. First it was in the LTTE TOSSIE whore site called LankaNewsWeb and not it is in the ponna site called LankaENews. Why don't you go home and engage in proreative acts with yourself than desperately wasting time to fool us.

No matter who wins the election, the new government should seriously consider a new foreign policy, especially towards UK. People like Milliband are the kings of hypocrites.

At the end of the World War I, Japan proposed a "racial equality clause" in the covenant of the League of Nations.

"The equality of nations being a basic principle of the League of Nations, the High Contracting Parties agree to accord as soon as possible to all alien nationals of states, members of the League, equal and just treatment in every respect making no distinction, either in law or in fact, on account of their race or nationality."

Japan, in proposing this clause announced "We are not too proud to fight but we are too proud to accept a place of admitted inferiority in dealing with one or more of the associated nations. We want nothing but simple justice."

The proposal was rejected despite receiving majority of votes to accept due to strong pressure applied by UK.

Nearly 100 years later, 60 years after losing the "super power" status once held, surprisingly, this man Milliband, has the same mind set of those who were present at the table in 1919.

Max_Headroom,

Wow! You are suddenly on the offensive with all barrels firing! Who lit the fire under you?

What is so HILARIOUS about Ethnic Integration?

It is very reasonable and defensible, and India will hem and haw, but will see it as the SOLUTION to what is tearing India apart as well.

The argument supporting Ethnic Integration goes like this:

1. We will NEVER allow a separate Eelam in Sri Lanka because:

1.1. the Sinhala people have a historical claim to all of Sri Lanka, that THEY WILL NEVER YIELD,

1.2. because it endangers the SECURITY of Sri Lanka; the natural DEFENSIBLE border of Sri Lanka is its entire coastline, and

1.3. because it endangers and limits the ECONOMIC GROWTH of Sri Lanka, by denying access to the RESOURCES of the North and East needed to improve the lives of all Sri Lankan citizens.

2. The Eelam state is based on the argument that the North and East are populated by Tamil people only, partly because the Sinhala and Moslem people were ethnically cleansed and expelled. If this is changed, then Eelam becomes an IMPOSSIBILITY.

3. Most of the Tamils in SL live OUTSIDE the North and East, without any restrictions. If they have the right to do that, the same right must be accorded to non-Tamils to live in the North and East. They ALREADY ENJOY a benefit that other major communities in Sri Lanka do not; that is DISCRIMINATION to be eliminated under Ethnic Integration.

Ananda-USA said...

Ananda-USA said...

On Ethnic Integration ...

....continued...

4. Through many decades of insular separate living in the North and the East under the control of the LTTE, and even before, a certain segment of the Tamil population, and some segments of the Sinhala and Moslem populations elsewhere, have lost contact with the other communities and are unable to EMPATHIZE with each other. They have begun to idetify only with their own community, and not with Sri Lanka and all of her people, as a whole. This has to be changed and guided towards the creation of a SINGLE SRI LANKAN IDENTITY with SHARED Sri Lankan Aspirations.Accordingly, in Ethnic Integration this is pusued in the following ways:

4.1 ALL Sri Lankans must have the RIGHT to ENJOY the FRUITS of ALL of Sri Lanka in equal measure. To attain this end while preventing separatism, the GOSL should adopt a national policy to promote HOMOGENIZATION of the ethnic composition of the populations by developing new GOSL administrative centers, national development programs (e.g., Mahaveli scheme), economic infrastucture (Industriual Zones, Roads and Highways, Airports and Ports), educational facilities (Schools and Technical Colleges), economic incentives (Subsidies, Land, Jobs), military camps established and maintained throughout the country in cities, towns, and districts, and by asking people from different communities to relocate voluntarily for better jobs and better opportunities in general.

4.2 The GOSL must implement programs to INCREASE interaction between different communities by further STRENGTHENING the Laws against Discrimination based on race, language, caste and religion.

4.3 The GOSL must take steps to increasing EMPATHY between school children of different commmunities in their FORMATIVE YEARS. For example, the GOSL should make learning, and teaching, all three languages Sinhala, Tamil and English be MANDATORY in school. This policy should be extended to adults as well, using the lever of government employment to require proficiency in all three languages. Singing the National Anthem before the start of classes should be mandatory in school EVERYDAY.

4.4 All schools should be required to accept, and maintain enrollment of a certain minimum number of children of all communities, not less than the demographic national average for each minority community. This is particularly important in religious and ethnic denominational schools, which can breed intolerance and separatism otherwise. Government schools should be required to manage enrollments with the goal of achieving the national demographic ratios of the country as a whole.

4.5 The Ethnic Integration policies for schools described above, should be pursued in employment at both government institutions and in commercial establishments with more than, say, 10 employees.

To Be Continued and Refined further .

FYI, I have watched how MR has plundered middle class professionals like us to give him; his family and the low income population of our country - like robbing Peter to pay Paul - a joy ride. Helping Hambanthota, Gold Coin pyramid scheme are some of his other wrong doings but for the peace he brought into our lives with GR and SF, I will bow at him willingly.

Furthermore, parochial interests are there when it comes to SF: senior schoolmate at Mariya Kade; not afraid to say that he is from the same caste and originating from the same village in Ambalangoda, from where one of my parents come.

And Sri Lanka desperately need someone tough and no-nonsense like Lee Kwan Yew or Dr. Mahathir Mohommed - off course that is my personal view - to take our country forward balancing all forces without being aligned to none.

Thought of addding my two cents to what SF told and retracted and the eventuality that he will have to face if MR is returned for his second term.

But information that I have got is that over 60% of the SLA; may be a lesser number in the forces and an equal number in the Police are supporting him bit no one is talking about it. Everyone subscribes to the conventional wisdom that MR will win. Yes, MR may win but it could be a close fight.

In any case, whatever MR did with the big brother, he may not be able to do with the Red Brother because SF and JVP could prevail on MR through Green and Red Brothers.

Well, if you do not take into account India's vested interest to see that there is no stability south of their border then many surprises are in store for you and all of us.

Hope you will understand what I am telling you.

india will not like colonization.

1. but india didn;t like going to war with LTTE either. only when india had NO CHOICE it supported us.

2. there is nothing india can do to stop colonization.

3. the relative power of tamils within the indian union has eroded drastically.

3.1 I-C and BJP don't contest in tamil madu. TF they have nothing to lose. either ADMK or AIADMK joins the winner so there is nothing the winner of other states to worry about in TN. they ANYWAY get either one into their team.

3.2 tamil % withint the india union was over 9% at one point. it has reduced drastically and in 2001 was 5.9%. in 2011 it is expected to go below 5% (materiality margin). that means tamil nadu PUBLIC sentiment is less important to india to day than a few decades ago.

BTW TN is not going to place economic sanctions on india!!

3.3 india is not what it was when SU was behind its every move. now russia is not THAT keen in indian defence and a new regional supoerpower has emerged. even US and russia don't want to antogonise china!!! given this geopolitical backdrop, india is not going to risk its global position just to satisfy some racist ass clowns in tamil madu.

3.4 by introducing certian laws, india's ruling class (hindi speaking) made sure tamil madu does not produce leaders like periyar/annadorai, etc. after 1962. now only ass clowns rule TN. this has further reduced their clout on india but strengthened india's clout on TN.

3.5 given all this india's RULING CLASS (HINDI SPEAKERS) LOVE colonization of SL's north with a ppl who speak the SAME DIALECT!!!

3.6 this is why i say dutugemunu was wrong. OBVIOUSLY he was not a very educated man in geography of the region.

he said he is trapped between tamil madu and the deep blue sea. WRONG. beyond tamil madu, there is a MASSIVE INDO ARYAN territory at least 10 times the size of tamil madu.

so actually its tamil madu that is sandwiched by 2 indo aryan areas from the north and the south!!!!!

[And Sri Lanka desperately need someone tough and no-nonsense like Lee Kwan Yew]

Max,

This was exactly what I thought today, after I had penned my post on EI.

Lee Kwan Yew ENFORCED Ethnic Integration on Singapore.

Today the Chinese, Malay and Indian (largely Tamil) people of Singapore DARE NOT USE ethnic differences in any shape or form to get greater or exclusive rights for themselves. That is VERBOTEN.

What is more, it has been largely PURGED from their emotional mindset, BY THE FORCE OF LAW sustained with a mailed fist over decades!

That is not all that Lee Kwan Yew did; he enforced a DEATH SENTENCE against drug dealers (as we have in SL now), and prohibited long haired-hippies from coming to Singapore by mandating canings in public!

Recently though, Yew moaned about the "plight of the Tamils" in Sri Lanka, to gain favour with his own Tamil electorate .. just as the Indians do from time to time .. not realizing that we are following in his footsteps to impose discipline, and a UNIFYING common identity, on our people .. DEVOID of DIVISIVE ANARCHIC "democratic freedom" to discriminate against one's neighbor in defence of unlimited, unrestricted, "personal and ethnic freedoms" ... just as he did.

The fading memory of Lee Kwan Yew is a disease that afflicts all leaders of successful democracies .. after they succeed in stabilizing their societies and economies by whatever system that works .... they FORGET how they got there, and turn into bleeding heart MARSHMELLOWS oscillating and vacillating in every which direction.

In this stage of their personal and societal evolution, they want to win Nobel Peace Prizes at the expense of other poor countries struggling, mewling and puking like reluctant schoolboys, along the same difficult path.

That is the inevitable end of those who succeed .. they adopt double standards .. because their neck is no longer under the poised guillotine.

It is for us, treading the path path towards our own collective SURVIVAL, to recognize and understand these things well, and NEITHER BE SWAYED, NOR BE DIVERTED, from that path by these pontificating pundits who have already forgotten their own struggles!

Ananda,
Good to see you writing on EI.

I was thinking more about colonization. More I think about it, more it appears to be the right thing. Now, for me, it looks like our good friend Moshe was right from the beginning.

Maybe I have misunderstood the word (in SL's context). What I mean by colonization (in SL context) is to bring in people (of all ethnicities) to a previously UNPOPULATED area of Sri Lanka. It's not like we are chasing away people from an area and bringing in new people. So, what's wrong with it? It's just giving landless Sri Lankans land FROM SRI LANKA. Of course this should be done in the pretext (from our POV) of development. Which is actually true. But I am more interested in the by product of this development, which is destroying the Kolaam dream.

I would like to see you elaborate on your worries about colonization.

The JVP the other supporter of Sarath Fonseka is well known in Sri Lanka for the two insurrections to capture power in 1971 and in 1987-1989. In 1971 the JVP attacked all Police Stations in a “Cuba” type of attack to capture power. The Government of Sirimavo ably fought back. It was found that North Korea had played a very subversive role in that insurrection and its Embassy in Colombo was immediately closed down and the diplomats ordered out.

In the crucial days in April 1971, when the Government had lost control of the entire Matara District including Hakmana and Akuressa and holding only the towns of Matara, Dondra and Weligama on the coast, a very large ship appeared close to our shores, unloaded a number of boats and were loading some things into them. Sri Lanka never had that size of ship, not even today. This was radioed to Colombo and an Air Force Plane came and machine gunned all the boats for over fifteen minutes. The ship reloaded the boats and suddenly left. The Gemunu Watch commander Major Wettasinghe who had his light machine gun loaded targeting it, but he said that the ship was just beyond its reach. It was a tense situation where we expected a foreign force to land on our shores and we were saved by our Air Force.

The 1971 uprising was an attempt by a foreign power to take over the entire country. It was like the Communists of Afghanistan inviting the Russians into Afghanistan in 1979. The JVP of today appears to be acting for a foreign power exactly in the way they did in 1971.

A mystery plane, loaded with 35 tonnes of lethal weapons-including surface to air missile launchers, and twenty four 240 mm guns, so far never used, all documented as oil drilling equipment, had to be refueled at Don Mueng Airport at Thailand few days ago. The arms were valued at $ 18 million. It was said to be heading for Sri Lanka. It had come from North Korea accompanied by 4 persons from Kazakhstan and Belarus. It is important to note that North Koreans master minded the 1971 insurrection in Sri Lanka In entire South Asia, Sri Lanka is the most destabilized country today. Perhaps the plane was heading here. Zimbabwe where in 2004 a plane laden with weaponry and mercenaries led by Simon Mann, former Commander of G squadron 22 of the SAS(UK) had to land to refuel. The smart sleuths of President Mugabe found that the plane was heading for Equitorial Guinea, impounded the weapons and incarcerated the mercenaries. That was an attempt to stage a coup and take over an oil rich country, financed by Sir Mark Thatcher, son of former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. The SAS officer and others caught were later jailed in Guinea and pardoned in 2009. Mann says that tacit approval for the regime change came from the Pentagon, CIA and the big oil companies. The ‘buddhist’ sleuths of Thailand may fail to get the terrorists to speak.
The national minded members of the JVP have left under Wimal Weerawansa’s leadership. Thanks to them they have joined the Patriotic National Movement.
To add to this is the revealation made by Ranil Wickremasinghe to the effect that his Party Manifesto “Anagata Abiyogaya” he had put out last week was printed by an undisclosed foreign organization. In other words the UNP is acting as a hireling for a foreign power- the terms seem to be to support Sarath Fonseka as the President. There is room to think that the USA and the other Superpowers are now trying to covertly defeat President Rajapaksa at the Presidential Election by supporting Sarath Fonseka and the opposition – the UNP and the JVP. Robert Blake the Assistant Secretary who was recently in Sri Lanka has said that the US will not take sides in this Presidential Election.

Srilankan said...

However, it is important to note that the USA has a record of interfering in the internal affairs of foreign countries when their rulers do not adhere to the ways of thinking of the Superpowers. If the countries fail to adhere to the IMF rules by which the multinationals are allowed to plunder the resources, and have dealings with other countries like Iran and China, then that country has to be destabilized. The modus operandi is to offer advice and help at first and if necessary let lose the CIA goons. The instances range from Lumumba in the Congo to what is currently happening in Iraq and Afghanistan. Details are included of a few instances where the record shows that the USA has blood on its hands.
In the Congo, Patrice Lumumba was elected as the Prime Minister of Congo. At the inauguration instead of being thankful, he insulted his former colonial Master- he said that Belgium should apologise for the pillage and plunder done by them. In a matter of ten weeks, “Lumumba’s Government was deposed in a coup… he was subsequently imprisoned and murdered in circumstances suggesting complicity by the Governments of Belgium and the US
In Iran, “the 1953 Iranian Coup d’etat deposed the democratically elected government of Iranian Prime Minister Mossadeq. The USA CIA overthrew the Government of Mossadeq at the request of the British Government and enabled Mohamed Reza Pahlavi to become an authoritarian monarch who went on to rule Iran.. till 1979.”
What happened in Chile in the Sixties rings bells of what is happening in Sri Lanka today. In Chile, In 1962 the CIA received authority to carry on covert action projects in support of the Chilean Radical Party and the Christian Democratic Party. … to assist these Parties to attract larger followings… to influence political orientation to support US objectives in the Region ,,, to support efforts to split the Socialist party….The CIA was tasked to support continued unilateral placements of propaganda in the mass media to influence public opinion against leftist public opinion, against leftist parties and candidates… In 1970 Allende was elected President. President Nixon instructed the CIA to unseat Allende and authorized $ 10 million. President Nixon specifically directed that this action be carried out by the CIA without advising the Departments of State or Defence or the US Ambassador in Chile. CIA took a variety of actions-… making overtures to the military, initiating efforts to promote public opposition to Allende . A coup’d’etat was planned- it included the abduction of General Schneider, a strong supporter of Allende. His men guarded Allende day and night. In the process General Schneider was killed. Schneider was a strict constitutionalist and was therefore an obstacle to US efforts to promote a military intervention. Scheneider’s murder was classified as collateral damage. During Allende’s regime 1970-1973, $ 6.5 million was spent for covert activities against Allende. In September 1973 the Chilean military staged a coup against Allende, who is said to have shot himself or was assassinated.

Srilankan said...

It is sad to state that what is happening in Sri Lanka today is similar to the very process of foreign conspiracy that unseated President Allende, with perhaps many Superpowers having a hand in the pie.
It is upto the citizens of Sri Lanka be they followers of any political party to open their eyes to the nefarious conspiracies of the Superpowers- understand that our beloved political parties including the UNP that won our independence have been totally infiltrated and riddled by the Superpowers to do their bidding. We have to stand firm as a nation.
The Party System of politics has been bequeathed to us by the Britain to keep us divided and fighting. It is a system where one half of the people stand opposed to whatever good work that the elected majority engage in. Development work done by the Government, be it a bridge, a road, an anicut are only to be broken by the people of the opposing political party immediately afterwards. That has been our fate.
If we fail to go beyond party politics and guard our beloved motherland at this Critical moment in history, it will be the end of Sri Lanka as a sovereign nation.
It is perhaps a travesty of fate that the foremost Superpower, the USA does not realize the fact that President Rajapaksa has contributed to World Development by not only defeating terrorism but also by dismantling the LTTE drug trafficking and extortion network which was world wide. All the Developed Countries stand to benefit from this. It was a task that their CIA, MI5 and many other security organizations have miserably failed. No other country leader has accomplished such a task for the USA and other Superpowers.
The USA stands to gain more by helping the democratic forces in Sri Lanka than by attempting to subvert it. The USA has to realize for once that it will gain more in prestige and dignity by allowing a sovereign country to attend to its own affairs, without interference.

[I would like to see you elaborate on your worries about colonization.]

tata,

Your idea of "colonization" fits in well with Ethnic Integration .. I have no problem with it.

The problem with "colonization" is with how that word is viewed by most people around the world in its historical context. It is a word loaded with the baggage of discriminatory practices.

Historically, colonization represented the dispossession of vulnerable helpless conquered people by powerful foreign invaders, who were usually Western European in recent times.

This happened in various parts of the world. In certain places, the natives were almost completely eradicated by foreigners, like in North America and in Australia, with the locals being killed on sight. In other countries, the replacement of the population did not progress so completely, and foreigners only controlled the land militarily and exploited them.

Due to the weakening of the Western Colonial countries in World War II, most former colonies were able to launch independence struggles and gain their independence. This was true of India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Nigeria, Algeria, Vietnam, Malaya .. the list is endless.

In certain countries, where the colonialists were in the process of replacing the indigenous people and dispossessing them, but could not complete it as yet, as in South Africa, Rhodesia, Algeria, Vietnam, Mozambique, etc the struggle lasted well into the 1960's. It is noteworthy that many of the current paragons of democracy, supported the European-leaning governments in these countries against the independence movements. In South Africa and Vietnam the US supported the Aparthied and French-leaning governments. In Vietnam and Algeria, the French fought bitter wars to hang on. Portugal was perhaps, the most tenacious and unyielding colonial power, fighting to hang on to Mozambique and South West Africa.

Colonizations of both these kinds also took place in Sri Lanka, when the Cholas, the Portuguese, the Dutch, and the British conquered parts of Sri Lanka and enslaved its people. Under them, the conquered people had few rights.

Therefore, the word "colonization" has a bad smell of injustice; that is the reason why we should avoid it.

Ethnic Integration Va Colonization

...continued 1...

In this context of Sri Lanka's Tamils, it is instructive to study what is happening in the former territory of Palestine in the Middle East. The struggle there between the Jewish (largely European immigrants after WW-II) and Arab peoples in former Palestine is also a partly successful re-colonization of land by Jewish people.

I say re-colonization, because the Jewish people have a historical claim on the land, that precedes the claim of the Arabs, by thousands of years. However, around the time of the Balfour declaration, the majority of people in former Israel were Arab; they are now a large minority in Israel. Many Jews of Israel, now want to colonize lands in the West Bank (Judea and Samaria) to reclaim these ancient Jewish lands for the Jewish people, after an absence of many thousands of years.

The problem with the continued expansion of Jewish settlements in the West Bank and Gaza territories is that the Arabs are not accorded full Citizenship rights either in Israel, or in the West Bank and Gaza, and in particular they are barred from the Jewish settlements being created in the West Bank, because the Jewish people fear being overwhelmed by the Arabs. Jews have a justifiably deep seated fear of becoming a minority in Israel, as they are in all other countries of the world, particularly in Europe where they were periodically massacred.

Therefore, the Jewish people of Israel are caught on the horns of a dilemma: they want to acquire and keep the lands occupied by the ancient Jews exclusively to themselves, but they can't do that because there is a sizeable population of non-Jews already living there. On the other hand, they dare not give them equal citizenship, because they fear losing control of government elected on a one person, one vote basis.

Interestingly, in the face of creeping colonization of Palestinian lands in the West Bank by the Jews, many Palestinians who were earlier agitating for a separate state, have lst hope of regaining these lands exclusively to themselves, and are now beginning to give up that demand as no longer feasible. Instead, they are asking for the entire former Palestine, comprising Israel, West Bank and Gaza to become a multi-ethnic, multi-religious state of both Jews and Arabs. In short, they are realizing that Jews are incrementally colonizing their land, and that when two intransigent peoples ask for the same land, the only solution is to form one country and share it equally .. if they can get along!

This, however, is anathema to the many Jews; they don't want it. They don't want Israel to become a pre-dominantly Arab country in the future, given the higher birth-rate of the Arabs, and the large combined Arab population in Israel, the West Bank and the Gaza strip, and become subject to the same policies that led to the periodic massacres of Jews in Europe.

/Then why do they support SF?/

JVP has all 'good' reasons to support Fonz.

1. Any PE is a difficult situation for JVP. Even those who vote for JVP in local elections due to personal reasons will not vote for JVP candidate. It will always show 1-2% in PE and JVP don't like it.

2. Their trick is 'support main candidate for some promise'. Standard promise is abolishing EP.

3. This way they can claim credit if their candidate wins. And also they can protest when the promise is not delivered. If their candidate lose they can claim its not their fault.

4. If JVP run for GE separately their 39 will become 5-. But if they make a deal with UNP (even after loss of PE) for GE they may get 20-. This is good way if they like to stay in democrazy.

5. May be JVP think they can be art of military junta if Fonz wins.

6. JVP is a party that thought they can rule country by attacking police stations (they forgot there were army, navy etc). I think only man JVP had with practical knowledge and common sense is WimalW. We can expect things similar to 71, 88/89 from JVP again.

Ethnic Integration Vs. Colonization

...continued 2....

The situation in Sri Lanka, on the other hand, is both much more manageable, and different:

- First, because the total Tamil population of Sri Lanka is quite small: no more than 15% or so now, any move for a separate state by them can be confronted and defeated effectively.

- Second, the Sinhala people ALREADY ACCEPT that Tamil people as full citizens of Sri Lanka, so there is no opposition to that as in Israel. This is easy to do, because Tamils are a very small minority in Sri Lanka. What the Sinhala people object to is to the idea of a separate state exclusively for the Tamils.

- Third, since the MAJORITY of Tamils already live among the Sinhala people outside the North and the East, the demand for a separate state exclusively for Tamils is a ridiculous racist demand. It discriminates against the Sinhala people by denying them the right of equal access to a large part of their traditional homeland.

- Fourth, this whole problem of the Eelam struggle would not have become a major problem for Sri Lanka, if not for two reasons.

I. The MILITARY WEAKNESS of Sri Lanka in the past, that gave hope to insurgent groups that they can overwhelm the government of Sri Lanka with assistance from abroad. Thanks to the MR-GOSL, Sri Lanka is no longer militarily weak, and is unlikely to become weak again in the foresee-able future, provided a PATRIOTIC GOVERNMENT remains in power in Sri Lanka.

II. India is not likely to assist terrorists and separatists in Sri Lanka again militarily, for several reasons:

-- They paid a heavy price with the military intervention;

-- They have revived separatism in Tamil Nadu;

-- They encouraged the importation of terrorist technology and expertise into India;

-- They have pushed Sri Lanka into the arms of other major powers like China, Pakistan and Iran;

-- They induced Sri Lanka to develop an effective military India will have to contend with in the future;

-- Terrorism has raised its ugly head witin India itself affecting the governance of over 1 billion people, and has to stamp out terrorism like Sri Lanka did; and

-- Finally, Sri Lanka is India's ONLY RELIABLE NEIGHBOR, straddling commercial sea lanes of increasing importance to India, and willing to defend and protect India's Southern border, and willing cooperate in Regional Trade.

In SUMMARY, the word "colonization" has negative historical connotations. Resettling and redistributing Sri Lanka's different communities to attain, as far as possible, a uniform demographic com position is ESSENTIAL. It will make separatism impossible in the future, but it should be implemented within the UMBRELLA of ETHNIC INTEGRATION having a broader scope and view of how to attain harmony and empathy between the constituent communities of a SINGLE multi-ethnic, multi-cultural, multi-religious society.

ETHNIC INTEGRATION should lead to the development of a SINGLE NATIONAL IDENTITY that transcends all other considerations.

It's a mentality that has been driven into us through centuries of colonialism (i.e. fair/ white is better)..That's why many successful young colored males prefer white girls, uneducated or otherwise..It's kind of like a status symbol, or self gratification that they have reached parity with the white's in society..

With recent immigrants (especially students), another dimension comes in..For all our early adolescence we are exposed to only dark haired, tanned skinned (if there is better word thalelu do tell), and dark/hazel eyed women..So its natural to yearn for something different like a pale skinned/blue/green eyed, blonde or redhead..It's human nature I guess :)

Perhaps same thing happened to successful Tamil guys in the 80s. I remember hearing number of Sinhalese women in Colombo getting married to Tamil guys.

White women are nice to look at when they are young. Their good looking period is a fraction of their life. On the other hand, the beauty of Asian woman last for decades.

One thing people don't see when they see beautiful white women is that the maintenance cost. The term 'white' here is not refereed to their skin color rather 'white' in white elephant.

Are Ranil's forces lining up against SF?

Swarnajith Udana said...

The prevailing question is whether one of the Opposition parties backing Gen. Fonseka engineered and doctored the text prepared at the last minute? That was after their committee approved it. Have some of the moderate opposition parties supporting him already lost control of Gen. Fonseka to their fiery one time rivals. There are clear signs that the 'common candidate' is increasingly becoming the face of one group. That is even before he handed in his nominations. How would they cope with him, if elected President?

These and a number of questions arise. It gives rise to the suspicion that the parties supporting him are not acting in concert and harmony. Some appear to have already become helpless. Others are jubilant that whether Gen. (retd.) Fonseka wins or not, they have already succeeded.

This is not the first time Gen. Fonseka has embarrassed his political backers. The last occasion was revealed exclusively in these columns in the Sunday Times of November 15. He sent his letter of retirement and an annexure giving 17 reasons to President Rajapaksa. However, the copies of these two documents he gave the opposition political parties and later distributed to the media were quite different.
If the documents given to opposition parties spoke about media freedom and corruption, his original letter, as details given in these columns revealed, did not contain them. Though UPFA leaders fought very shy to respond to the letter and the 17 reasons in the annexure for fear of triggering off an embarrassing exchange, the fact that they were devoid of references to the media or corruption issues became official when Gen. Fonseka filed a Fundamental Rights petition before the Supreme Court. The documents attached to the petition included his real letter seeking retirement and the real annexure giving the 17 reasons for it.

This is particularly important since Gen. Fonseka has faced accusations from UPFA leaders for attacks on the media. They have also accused members of his family of allegedly getting involved in military deals. In what is emerging as a tussle between moderate and hardliners backing the 'common candidate', the former appears to be losing out. "Dan monava karannada. Bendapu berey gahanna wenawa (What to do now other than beat the drum that is fastened)," said a frustrated moderate.
The greater onus would naturally be on United National Front (UNF) leader Ranil Wickremesinghe. He heads the largest component in the UNF, the United National Party (UNP). These issues have been unfolding when he was away from Sri Lanka. He has just returned from yet another overseas trip, this time to New Delhi.

Wickremesinghe would have to convince his UNF supporters, the largest majority in the vote base for January 26 polls, the largest share-holder so to say, that the candidate they are backing will reflect the moderate views of his constituent partners too. He will also have to convince the voters that his political efforts are not hijacked by the political cunning of others.

From the Article mentioned above.
